Head of Going Out, David Ellis, and food and drink writer, Josh Barrie, went to Pasta Evangelists in Harrods to try their pigs in blanket ravioli.
Transcript
00:00It's oily.
00:01For one, well.
00:02More harvester than Harrods.
00:06Hello.
00:07We're in the dining hall at Harrods in Knightsbridge
00:10to try Pastor Evangelist's new and seasonal
00:14pigs in blankets ravioli.
00:16I'm with David and we're going to give it a go.
00:18I think this is my first Pastor Evangelist's experience,
00:21shockingly.
00:22I'm a bit confounded by the whole thing.
00:24Just don't know if I'm going to have a sausage
00:26or if it's just going to be pork meat and then bits of bacon
00:29or if the bacon's going to be on top.
00:30You know, I'm going into this with an open mind.
00:32I've never encountered pigs in blankets ravioli before.
00:36We'll have to see.
00:37We'll give it a go. I'm excited.
00:40The picture in the press release was some ravioli
00:43covered in actual pigs in blankets,
00:45which I thought was the novelty value for Christmas, right?
00:48Sausages wrapped in bacon, scattered about pasta,
00:50absolutely bonkers, which is the whole point, right?
00:53The reason David and I are going around trying all these
00:55mad Christmas meals is for the silliness factor.
01:00But what we have here is just what looks to be ravioli filled
01:04with pork meat and some guanciale or pancetta or bacon, whatever.
01:12So you very much get a sausage texture and it's kind of quite dense.
01:16It's not as bad as I... it's alright, I suppose.
01:20It's a bit greasy.
01:21It's oily.
01:22More harvester than Harrods.
01:23More harvester than Harrods.
01:24But not unpleasant, really.
01:27I think what's interesting is it's very definitely a novelty
01:30that they put on and it doesn't necessarily taste like a novelty.
01:34The pasta actually is not cooked badly at all.
01:39Hats off.
01:40I think I'm going to give it six and a half.
01:43It's out of ten.
01:44It's not offensive.
01:46I don't think it's worth coming down for at Christmas.
01:48But it's perfectly okay and I will finish it,
01:50which means it's better than not.
01:52Oh, maybe five out of ten for me.
01:56I probably wouldn't have it again.
01:58But it's not horrible, really.
02:00A bowl of this pasta for one.
02:02You get, I don't know, maybe ten ravioli filled with pork,
02:07with some bacon and a bit of parmesan if you want it.
02:11And it's going to be 36 pounds.
02:14So I think that that is too much money for this plate of food
02:20by maybe 20 pounds.
02:22If I'd known that it was 36,
02:23I think I might have dropped my score quite significantly.
02:25I probably dropped my score to four and a half.
02:29In light of the price revelation,
02:32which, thanks David by the way for picking up the bill,
02:36but I'll go down from a five to a three I guess.
