European Commission proposes delaying full implementation of AI Act to 2027
The EU is giving companies more time to adapt to its new regulations on AI, but experts and MEPs say they regret the rowback on rules adopted just a year ago.

00:00The European Commission has unveiled its digital omnibus, a proposal to cut red tape on artificial intelligence, cyber security and data, to boost innovation and competitiveness in the EU.
00:12Overall, we estimate that digital omnibus could result in at least 1 billion euros in annual savings for our businesses, public administrations and citizens.
00:23And it also would generate some 1 billion euros of one-off savings.
00:30The Commission's proposal aims to simplify the AI Act and the GDPR to key EU legislations, which respectively regulate artificial intelligence and protect data privacy.
00:40The digital omnibus also looks to simplify the reporting of cyber security incidents.
00:45In addition, it would reduce cookie banner pop-ups and allow users to indicate their cookie preferences with just one click.
00:52Nevertheless, adoption of the omnibus might not be straightforward.
00:56Many members of the European Parliament spanning the left and center have already stated their intention to oppose it.
