00:00Carolina Hurricanes at TD Garden as the Red Hot Bruins were hosting the team that they had beat earlier this month.
00:07No goals scored in the first period. As a matter of fact, it'd be almost midway through the second before anybody would light the lamp, huh?
00:14Carolina getting set up here offensively. Nystrom with a drive. That one knocked down in front and stole!
00:20With one hand able to knock that in and Carolina grabs a 1-0 lead.
00:25Is that good when a goal scorer is able to get right down in front of your goalie and somehow score with only one hand on his stick?
00:32It wasn't just that. He was fending off Andrew Peek with his left hand and swatted the puck in with his right hand.
00:38It was really impressive.
00:39It wasn't like he just had one tie behind his back as a trick shot. He was using the other hand to move a defenseman.
00:46Yes, who couldn't move him out of there.
00:48Not a great second period.
00:50No, as second periods go, this might have been one of the worst.
00:53Yeah, because five minutes after that goal was scored.
00:55Played up the far boards, but Gostespierre gets there to keep in.
00:58Got it through some traffic to Walker.
01:00Back to the far side circle.
01:01Shot knocked down and they score!
01:04Jankowski able to bang home that rebound with 6.26 to go here in the second.
01:10Carolina's up two.
01:13Carolina, a very fast team.
01:15Very good at getting into the zone and attacking right away.
01:19And it also could have been a lot worse because they were hitting posts all over the place.
01:23Swayman, and even though Swayman got beat a couple of times, he was really, really good.
01:27No, Swayman was good.
01:28Could have been 4-1, 4-0, 5-0 easily.
01:32Right.
01:33And also, what did they hit, John?
01:35Two or three posts?
01:36I saw two, but it could have been more.
01:40Swayman saved another goal.
01:41They were a really good look at a shorthanded goal that Carolina had that Swayman made a glove save.
01:48Power play, not really good for the Bruins last night.
01:50Well, okay, so last night, if you want to get to the end of the game, you can, and then we can kind of discuss it.
01:57You want to hear the one Bruins goal?
01:59Sure.
01:59Lumell batted it toward Yoki Haru.
02:02Off of Tufty, here's Ace-am on Stuffer near post.
02:05And they get a second chance and they score!
02:10And I believe Riley Tufty might get this one.
02:13Oh, yeah.
02:14On the rebound after the Stuffer attempt.
02:16With about 10 seconds left in the game, there's your power play goal.
02:21That's kind of like Sweet Caroline in the eighth inning when you're down by 10 runs.
02:24You know what I mean?
02:27Everyone's dancing all over the place, and it's 3-1 with 10 seconds left.
02:32So, look, the Bruins have been very good over a pretty long stretch.
02:37It's not their fault last night.
02:39They're just so banged up.
02:41There's two guys that have never played before up there.
02:44Tufty and Blumell both got called up for Providence for their first game of the season.
02:48Right.
02:48So, it's a tough game to watch because, again, they're missing three of their top six forwards,
02:56their top two centers.
02:57Arvidsson got placed on injured reserve.
02:59So did Middlestad.
03:01Lindholm is out.
03:02Oh, yeah.
03:03McAvoy didn't play either last night.
03:04McAvoy's out because he got hit in the face with a puck.
03:06So, it was, you know, it didn't look like, it looked like, in a lot of ways, not necessarily
03:15the way they played, but just from a name standpoint, like a Providence-Bruins game.
03:19It was, it didn't seem like the Bruins.
03:22This team, if you look at it, doesn't seem to have a lot of offensive depth to start with.
03:27Although, the second and the third and fourth line guys have chipped in, but you expect
03:33the top two lines to carry the weight for most of your games.
03:37You're missing half of your top six forwards at this point, plus your best defenseman.
03:41And Ryan Johnson's going to be on next hour, but they're saying Elias Lindholm might be
03:48on the road back.
03:50You heard that.
03:51They're saying that he could be back.
03:53He's getting better.
03:54He might join them on the trip at some point.
03:56They have a four-game road trip, which starts tomorrow.
03:59Yeah, so, they're super banged up.
04:01It's just, the team going into the season had so many names that you might not be familiar
04:06with, and then last night, it was just like, oh my God.
04:09Yeah.
04:10Like, you know, this is...
04:12You already got Hustadino skating with the top line, and now it's just, you know, take
04:16the names out of the hat.
04:17It's patchwork at this point.
04:19Because they've got me back.
04:20I mean, I am, you know, interested, obviously very interested in the team again.
04:25They've been very good over this stretch, but it's just, it's hard, at least for me.
04:31Well...
04:31Last night, I mean, and then they were so badly outplayed in the second period, but would
04:36you get mad at them?
04:37No, Carolina's really good.
04:39Carolina has a better record than them.
04:41Even though the Bruins are in first place in their division, Carolina's in the other
04:44division.
04:44They had a better record.
04:45And let's be honest, they're just a better team.
04:47And by the way, Carolina was missing one of their best defensemen last night, too.
04:51So, I mean, Slavin didn't play.
04:54So, I mean, even banged up, Carolina still was better.
04:58But the Bruins, this banged up, I mean, any win they can get is, you know, like kind of
05:04they grabbed it out of a hat.
