00:00And Jonathan, the U.S. draft resolution raises the possibility of a Palestinian state.
00:06Israel's prime minister is under immense pressure from his far-right coalition to denounce this.
00:14How much wiggle room does Netanyahu have with the international community,
00:19and of course Donald Trump, in avoiding recognizing a Palestinian state?
00:24Yeah, that's a fundamentally accurate question there, Kellyanne.
00:28The issue here is that Israeli society is, of course, traumatized by what had happened on October 7th,
00:36and there isn't this, you know, groundswelling desire to see a Palestinian state next door
00:42as a reward for essentially carrying out atrocities and, you know, killing their citizens
00:48and Hamas vowing to continue that type of campaign until Israel is destroyed.
00:53So tremendous, you know, concern within the Israeli population.
00:59Indeed, Prime Minister Netanyahu has cabinet members who are ultra-nationalists
01:05and don't ever want to see any sort of Palestinian state,
01:09don't even believe that there is ideological grounds for a Palestinian state,
01:15don't believe that there ever was and ever will be,
01:19and that's the position that they have.
01:22The basic truth, though, is that the situation is such that the international community is exhausted
01:29after seeing the horrors of what has befallen the Israelis and the Gazans
01:34as a result of two years of grinding war,
01:39and really want to see some sort of resolution here
01:42and a way forward for these two peoples to coexist.
01:47So Prime Minister Netanyahu really doesn't have much in terms of ability at this juncture,
01:55especially now that the resolution which the United States is pushing is likely to be passed,
02:02and it's legally bound by the Security Council.
02:06So this idea that there is an opportunity for the Palestinians to have sovereignty
02:11and ultimately a state should all work out well,
02:15that's nothing that Netanyahu can really stop at this juncture.
