Taiwan is tightening export controls on dual-use technologies, including quantum computers and advanced chip-making equipment, to prevent sensitive tech from reaching hostile or unstable regions. TaiwanPlus spoke with Tai Chih-yen, deputy director of the Center for Science and Technology Policy Evaluation at Taiwan’s CIER think tank, to discuss how this might impact the tech supply chain.
00:00What's behind Taiwan's move to further tighten up export controls on potential dual-use technology?
00:30Taiwan added these restrictions to comply with the Wassena arrangement. What is this? And what are Taiwan's obligations under it?
00:47The agreement is from the United States and the United States. In this agreement, it is to set up some敏感技巧 to move forward to some of the most dangerous areas in the world.
01:07Taiwan has not been signed by, but we will do with our country more international trade.
01:17So we don't want to be careful that Taiwan will become the important,敏感, technology, and not be able to go to the place.
01:29This is probably going to be a bad thing.
01:33Like the Chinese in the cold and cold and cold.
01:36It will finally be used in its weapons.
01:39So when we found out this kind of thing,
01:43It may be facing our current trade partners
01:48For example, to increase the money, to prevent our goods
01:51to export this kind of action
01:53So we have to follow such a rule
01:57And to ensure that we can maintain a better position on the normal trade
02:04How might these new rules impact Taiwan's chip exports and supply chain?
02:09In Taiwan, it's probably in the United States
02:13It's going to go to these more敏感 countries to the market
02:17You can see that if you look at the data from the United States, it won't be big
02:21But this case is not based on the standard or standard
02:26It may be once or twice
02:28It will lead to these countries, buying these技術 products
02:33It's good to have some production capabilities
02:36I would say the product of the product
02:38can be visible on the market.
02:41This is what we are not going to see.
02:44Taiwan companies can be able to do such a business
