00:00Good evening, everyone. As you could just see there from that video, Bloomberg's New Voices
00:08program is very important for us as a company. It started back in 2018 to help make our coverage
00:15more inclusive and more representative of the countries we are reporting on. The program
00:21itself, it funds intensive media training for senior female executives and male executives,
00:27as we saw there, across the finance industry in 18 financial hubs across the world, including
00:32here in Johannesburg. A number of alums have appeared on Bloomberg Television with me, and
00:38the program has already helped quadruple the percentage of women experts that we have had
00:44on Bloomberg Television, which is very important for us. I can say firsthand that a number of
00:49the alum have been fantastic guests for me since I've been here in South Africa. I interview
00:55a number of them often, including Dana Lee Massia, who is the chief economist for Deutsche
01:00Bank, who was recently on with me. I don't know if she's here today, who helped make sense
01:05of the inflation target, which was a very important milestone for South Africa. Also to the chief
01:10economist at Investec, Annabelle Bishop, who despite a live time on TV of 6.30 a.m., which
01:17for most people would be early, Annabelle reminded me that women in finance and people in finance,
01:226.30 is not early, and she is always happy to get up, as most of our alum always are. Already,
01:29we have 24 women at the top levels of South African business and finance that have participated
01:35in New Voices, and I'm excited to let you know that today we are launching a new cohort here in
01:41Johannesburg. You can find the application, I think it will be up here soon, but if not,
01:47www.bloomberg.com slash newvoices. We really welcome everyone to apply. If you want to apply
01:55yourself, if you know someone who you think should be included in our coverage, please,
02:00please try and apply to New Voices, because we want to continue to expand a lot of the voices that
02:07we have as part of our programming, as you did see there. So without further ado, we're going to
02:12continue on with the evening today and see New Voices in action. We have Emery Brown, who is here
02:17with me. She is the CEO of Rand Merchant Bank, and I think really embodies a lot of that expertise
02:23that we're looking for in the finance industry for a brief conversation. So please welcome Emery to
02:29the stage now.
