One of the highlights of this Premier League season has been newly Sunderland's impressive start under Regis Le Bris sitting in the top 4 at the time of upload. So for this next clip we feature the mackems in what is the big one as far as they are concerned the Tyne Wear Derby against Newcastle. Going into this clash from 1999/2000 Ruud Gullit's magpies had started badly no wins and just 1 point from the first 4 matches could they turn it around against their fiercest rivals and would tactical gamble pay off for Gullit. John Motson and Mark Lawrenson are your guides on a very wet night at St James Park.

00:00Following his one-max suspension, and alongside him there is Duncan Ferguson.
00:04So Rude Hullett surprises everyone by giving 20-year-old Paul Robinson,
00:09a former Sunderland season ticket holder, the main striker's role in only his second start in the Premiership.
00:16It's also quite a night for Northern Ireland's Tommy Wright, who began his league career with Newcastle,
00:21but now returns on a month's loan from Manchester City in response to a goalkeeping crisis.
00:26Wright's last league appearance was nearly a year ago in the second division.
00:32Even the opposing manager Peter Reid was taken aback by Hullett's selection.
00:36There's a recall for two unsettled players, Nikos Dabizas in defence,
00:40and Silvio Maric, who could possibly push up to support Robinson.
00:44But the likes of Marcelino and Ketz Beyer have now joined the growing Newcastle injury list.
00:50Talking of injuries, both Sunderland centre-backs Steve Bold and Paul Butler needed fitness tests,
00:55both passed, Niall Quinn returns up front alongside Kevin Phillips,
01:00as Sunderland set out to test what's recently been a shaky Newcastle defence.
01:04Left-back Michael Gray, a scorer in the Lusk derby here three years ago,
01:08can be expected to find himself in the England squad tomorrow,
01:11and with Graeme Lesseau apparently ruled out of the European qualifiers,
01:15Gray could add to the international experience he gained last season.
01:18Well, Ruud Hullett says it's a night for big hearts.
01:27I would think his heart might be thumping Mark Lawrenson with this somewhat of a gamble in his choice of team.
01:34Yeah, especially in terms of midfield selection, John, where it really looks very, very lightweight.
01:38I know they'll have one more than Sunderland in that area,
01:40but they've got people in there like Solano, McGlenn, Dyer,
01:44who are not very good at winning the wall back.
01:46In the derby, that's the most important area of the game.
01:49And what a derby we've got in prospect now,
01:51and it's Alex Ray for Sunderland in the first minute.
01:53Niall Quinn comes near post.
01:56Sunderland, needless to say, are in the red and white stripes.
02:01Only 850 Sunderland supporters given tickets for the match,
02:05although it is being beamed back to the Stadium of Light.
02:09Niall Quinn is in the centre here,
02:11and Tommy Wright,
02:13what a surprise for him to suddenly be called up by Newcastle.
02:18Graham Pohl, who refereed so well on Sunday at Highbury,
02:22is the man in charge tonight.
02:28This is Somerby for Sunderland,
02:30taking on Domi.
02:31And gets away,
02:35Niall Quinn wants it delivered now.
02:37And Phillips was in there,
02:38oh, and it was turned back for a corner.
02:41Warren Barton.
02:44That was a great early cross from Somerby, wasn't it?
02:47One of those crosses,
02:47Wright couldn't make up his mind,
02:49something that Barton had to defend.
02:51Butler and Bold have gone forward for Sunderland.
02:54The obvious threat is Niall Quinn.
02:56Coming in now.
03:04And now Ray.
03:07Alex Ray, turning well.
03:09Oh, he's got through here.
03:10Quinn's in the middle still.
03:11Ray goes down.
03:12Stephen Schwartz there for Sunderland.
03:25Phillips.
03:25Well, Peter Reid,
03:34who's keen to
03:37turn around Saturday's results at Leeds,
03:40where he felt Sunderland were hard done by
03:42with some decisions.
03:45Now Marich.
03:47Play on.
03:47Graham Pohl applied an advantage.
03:51Gary Speed.
03:52Looks like Marich on the right, Mark,
04:05and Dier up the middle.
04:06Yeah, so he's certainly very successful
04:08in the game against Southampton
04:09coming from that position.
04:10Kieron Dier is an excellent on the ball,
04:12great awareness.
04:14Just important really is the fact
04:15that he can't afford to give the ball away
04:17in that position with just the one man up front.
04:22In by Phillips to Quinn.
04:26And Sunderland make the first real opening
04:28and Tommy Wright
04:29has, I think, collided with the goalpost.
04:32This is Kevin Phillips
04:33who makes the break on the left.
04:35It's a whipped cross
04:36along a greasy six-yard line.
04:38Quinn did make a bit of contact
04:39and I think his momentum, Mark,
04:42drove the goalkeeper into the post.
04:44Well, what a marvellous cross as well,
04:46wasn't it, from Phillips?
04:46He's got half a yard
04:48on his mark.
04:49Here it comes in
04:50and Quinn pulled away
04:51from Goma.
04:53And really, it's just momentum
04:54took him on to Tommy Wright.
04:56The best chance of the game so far.
05:02Well, the reserve goalkeeper tonight
05:04is Steve Harper
05:05who is not fully fit.
05:07He told me this afternoon
05:08he's still suffering from an elbow injury
05:10and if Ruudhulli'd had to use him
05:13that in itself
05:13would be a gamble.
05:20But what is happening here?
05:21The crowd making gestures,
05:22are they towards
05:23the benchmark?
05:25I think Shearer's come out
05:26to warm up, John,
05:27which is why the crowd
05:28have got off the seat.
05:29They've had nothing else
05:29to get off the seats for.
05:38Great.
05:40Schwarz.
05:49It's a well-worked marriage
05:51with Dier in the centre.
05:55Robinson.
05:57Kieran Dier!
05:58Chance for Newcastle!
05:59Go!
06:02Kieran Dier!
06:08Oh, they'll be relieved there.
06:11It was well taken,
06:12it was well made.
06:13Robinson had a hand in it.
06:14Dier put it away
06:15and in the north-east derby
06:17it's Ruudhulli's team
06:18who strike first.
06:20Was he onside?
06:21Yes, he was in my view.
06:23There was a defender on this side
06:24playing him on, Mark Lawrenson.
06:26Most definitely onside, yes.
06:27I think it was a play
06:27in the right back position
06:28could have been Chris Macon.
06:30Lovely finish by Dier.
06:31He just waited for Sorensen
06:32to commit himself
06:33and just a little dink
06:34of the right foot.
06:351-0 to Newcastle.
06:37It's Kieran Dier's first goal
06:39for his new club.
06:40Six and a half million pounds
06:41from Ipswich
06:42and what a night to score it
06:44in the derby match.
06:45And Graham Pohl
06:48losing his patience
06:50with one or two
06:50of the Sunderland players.
06:51Kevin Phillips, I think it was,
06:53who argued with the decision
06:54and it looks like a yellow card.
06:56Alex Ray's talking
06:57to the referee at the moment
06:58but look at Phillips here.
07:00Descent.
07:01Yeah, I think Phillips
07:02thought he was tackled
07:03in front of the nose
07:04of the referee
07:04who's obviously decided not.
07:06And then throwing the ball away,
07:08card for Phillips.
07:11So suddenly,
07:13or maybe temporarily anyway,
07:14the night turns
07:15against Sunderland.
07:21And now,
07:22somebody else in trouble.
07:23Butler.
07:30Well, I would think
07:31Nikos Davizas,
07:32now that he's been
07:33restored to the side,
07:35Butler was yellow carded
07:36there, I think.
07:37Yellow carded for descent, John.
07:39Again, disagreeing
07:40with the referee's decision.
07:42Looks to me as though
07:43Gomar and Davizas
07:44have gone forward.
07:46It's Solano
07:47who's on the ball.
07:51And trouble there.
07:54Sunderland didn't quite know
07:55where that was going to bounce.
07:56The referee's now
07:56given a free kick.
08:00Well,
08:01Peter Reid's team
08:02lost the place there,
08:03both in defence
08:04when Dier scored
08:05and then temperamentally
08:07with two bookings,
08:09Phillips and Butler.
08:15Well,
08:16it's a while since
08:17Sunderland really tested
08:18the Newcastle defence.
08:19In fact,
08:19although they'd started
08:20quite well,
08:21they've been suppressed
08:22since Newcastle scored.
08:24Here's Makin
08:25to Somerby.
08:29Quinn goes into the centre.
08:32Phillips being joined
08:33there by Makan.
08:35Schwartz!
08:36Oh,
08:37and Niall Quinn
08:37threw himself at that!
08:38That was a shot by
08:45Schwartz,
08:46wasn't it?
08:46I think definitely
08:46it was offside
08:47against Little
08:48Phillips as well,
08:49but Niall Quinn
08:49wasn't to know that.
09:03Now,
09:03Gomar got the wrong
09:04side of Quinn
09:05just for a moment there
09:06and in trying to get back
09:07he impeded
09:08the big number nine
09:09and it's going to be
09:11a free kick
09:12to Sunderland.
09:23Alex Ray
09:24and Somerby
09:25on the ball.
09:27Somerby
09:27who normally
09:28takes these
09:28for Sunderland.
09:37well,
09:41he did the first thing
09:42right
09:42which was going
09:43over the wall
09:43unfortunately
09:44cleared the cross
09:45and halfway
09:45into the stand.
09:51Well,
09:52it's a tough life
09:53down there
09:54tonight.
09:55The hoods are up,
09:56the hats are on
09:57and the rain shows
09:59no sign of relenting.
10:01At least
10:01it's warm rain,
10:02John.
10:02And now
10:09Solano
10:09goes into the middle
10:10headed out
10:13by Bold.
10:15So,
10:16Ruudhullitz
10:17reshuffled
10:17Newcastle,
10:18lead at half-time
10:19in the time
10:20we're derby
10:20but their supporters
10:21will have mixed emotions.
10:23They'll be delighted
10:24with the goal
10:25by Kieran Dyer
10:26but they'll know
10:26that in their last
10:27three games
10:28Newcastle have been
10:29in a winning position
10:30or thereabouts
10:31and they've sacrificed it
10:33and they'll be hoping
10:33in the second half
10:34it doesn't happen again.
10:40They led at Tottenham
10:42and lost.
10:43They led at Southampton
10:44and lost.
10:45They led Wimbledon here
10:462-0 and 3-1
10:48Newcastle
10:49and only Drew.
10:50Can they hold a lead
10:51tonight
10:51in the North East Derby?
10:53They haven't won
10:58at St. James' Park
10:59since February
11:00in the league
11:01and here's
11:04Steve Bould
11:05for Sunderland.
11:09In fact,
11:09Newcastle's last win
11:10of any sort
11:11was in the FA Cup
11:12semi-final
11:13against Tottenham.
11:15Seems an awful
11:16long time ago
11:17to their supporters.
11:23maybe it seems
11:26a long time ago
11:27but it's only a year
11:28this week
11:28since Ruud Hullet's
11:29predecessor
11:30Kenny Dalgleish
11:31parted company
11:32with the club
11:32and Hullet took over.
11:38Here's Barton
11:39and he's looking
11:43for Robinson here
11:44and Maric again
11:45has started
11:45on the right wing
11:46leaving Dier
11:49to play
11:50the free roll
11:50around Robinson
11:52and this is Robinson
11:53there's a chance
11:54for Newcastle
11:55to bounce
11:56just favoured
11:56Sorensen.
11:59It was just the pace
12:00of the pitch
12:01really that beat
12:01Robinson
12:02just that extra bounce
12:03on the wet surface
12:04just took it
12:04into Sorensen's arms.
12:11That's Niall Quinn
12:12and it's Kevin Phillips
12:14chance for Sunderland
12:15perhaps
12:15and he was just
12:16bustled out of it
12:17really
12:18by Dabizas.
12:21Just a half chance
12:22wasn't it
12:23but it was just
12:23sandwiched
12:23between the two
12:24defenders
12:24in fact it was
12:25Dabizas
12:25who had the last
12:26touch.
12:28In the series
12:28overall
12:29Newcastle have won
12:3043 league derbies
12:31Sunderland 39
12:3436 draws
12:35before tonight.
12:36that header on
12:45finds Robinson
12:46for Newcastle
12:47he's looking for
12:49Silvio Maric
12:49on this side
12:50and Sunderland
12:53get the ball away
12:54and here's
12:54Stefan Schwarz
12:55Quinn ahead of him
12:57so is Phillips
12:58this is Summerbee
12:58it's long for
13:03Niall Quinn
13:03and he got away
13:05from Dabizas
13:06but directed his
13:08header
13:08beyond the far
13:09post
13:10quality cross
13:12on the right
13:12so we hit it
13:13quite flat
13:14right footed
13:15Quinn pulled
13:15away from Dabizas
13:16now they've got
13:17direction nor power
13:18on his header.
13:21And suddenly
13:22Duncan Ferguson
13:23emerges
13:23from the dugout
13:25to quite an
13:27appreciable roar
13:27from the Newcastle
13:28fans
13:29and
13:31it looks like
13:33poor Robinson
13:33who's coming off
13:36done a good job
13:38though Mark
13:39and made the goal
13:39yes he's done
13:40a very good job
13:41John
13:42I'm going to consider
13:42that for the majority
13:43of the game
13:43he's played up front
13:45on his own
13:45he's worked very
13:46very hard
13:46service to him
13:47has been taught
13:48and you're right
13:49they say he made
13:49the goal for Kieran Dier
13:50well can Duncan
13:53Ferguson help
13:54to kickstart
13:55Newcastle's season
13:56and reignite
13:57his injury
13:59played career
13:59just look at this
14:05weather
14:05but they're still
14:06smiling
14:07well look at that
14:14he's got to
14:15ring out the
14:16replica shirt
14:16and put it back
14:17on
14:17I think he's been
14:19the Isle of Wight
14:19for his holidays
14:20as well
14:20look at them
14:29that was the pitch
14:30this is Macon
14:31Quinn's still in there
14:32well now that's got to be a free kick for obstruction
14:39Solano really conceding that
14:44somewhat needlessly
14:47and this is danger
14:47for Newcastle
14:48Quinn in there
14:50bold
14:50and headed on
15:01and it's in
15:02Niall Quinn got the touch
15:06he's equalised
15:07Peter Reid's team are level
15:10and Newcastle have gone
15:11and done it again
15:12they've lost the lead
15:13for the fourth match running
15:15and keep an eye on Niall Quinn
15:17it goes into the near post area
15:20flicked on
15:21and into the corner
15:22well he just held the defender off
15:25didn't he
15:25didn't even have to jump
15:26just held him off
15:27the nicest of flicks
15:28just took it away from right
15:30well
15:32it looked to me
15:34as though a set play
15:35was Sunderland's best chance of scoring
15:37and so it proved
15:38but Newcastle now
15:39up against it again
15:4165 minutes gone
15:42one all in the Tyne Weir derby
15:45and the fans
15:46have to swallow hard again
15:48having seen their team lose the lead
15:51for the fourth match in a row
15:54well as a defender yourself
16:00I don't know what you thought of that
16:01but you've got a chance to tell us now
16:04well the key to the goal was a cross really
16:07and the fact that Quinn just held his ground
16:09stood there
16:09made sure he got the purchase
16:11on that
16:12it was a lovely ball in from Summerbee
16:13and just the redirection
16:15of the power is enough to take it away from right
16:17there's a yellow card here
16:19I think that's Gavin McCann
16:22that's been booked for Sunderland
16:23and in the meantime
16:25Barton
16:26now they'll want Duncan Ferguson
16:27on the end of this
16:28and he didn't make it
16:32well Sunderland
16:34are back in business
16:35and suddenly the question marks
16:39start to
16:39raise themselves again
16:42in the face of
16:45Niall Quinn's equaliser
16:47great servant to the club
16:49just had his testimonial match
16:51Kevin Ball
16:51Peter Reid frantic to get him on
16:53and looks as though
16:55Stefan Schwartz
16:56is coming off
16:58shaking hands very sportingly
17:03with the referee
17:03and the Swedish international
17:06makes way
17:07in midfield
17:08for number 4
17:10Kevin Ball
17:11but here
17:12here is the man
17:14Shearer
17:15who has emerged
17:17so we're going to see
17:19as Silvio Maric
17:21comes on
17:21we're going to see
17:23the Shearer-Ferguson partnership
17:25after all
17:26both left out of the starting line-up
17:28both now on the field
17:30but with a real job to do here
17:32and there goes Dier again
17:44and Sorensen won't get there
17:45well he did
17:47but not through
17:47well
17:49the pitch is playing
17:50all sorts of tricks
17:51it beat both players that time
17:52John
17:53Sorensen and Dier
17:54well here's one for Quinn
17:58on to Phillips
17:59I think it's just so important
18:04now for both sets of players
18:06they've got to follow
18:06absolutely everything
18:08they can't be sure
18:09when the ball's going to stay up
18:10it's going to speed through
18:11so certainly defenders
18:13have to be vigilant
18:13forward run
18:17oh and Quinn's in a good position
18:19in the middle
18:20and so too Ray now
18:21McCann helping out
18:26they put again
18:27the water on the pitch
18:29this is Shearer
18:30and Sunderland have come away with it
18:38and Phillips is in the centre
18:39and there's danger here for Sunderland
18:41oh and
18:42a block by Tommy Wright
18:43Phillips again
18:44and Sunderland have scored
18:46it's 2-1
18:47Kevin Phillips
18:50has got the ball in
18:52from a difficult angle
18:53the referee has also seen some
18:55pushing and shoving back
18:57on the halfway line
18:58and has gone racing
18:58across to speak to Macon
19:00I think
19:01but Sunderland are in front
19:02goodness me
19:04Tommy Wright made an initial save
19:06here from Kevin Phillips
19:07but when he turned
19:08and chipped that
19:09over goalkeeper
19:10and defender Mark
19:11into the far corner
19:13well
19:15some people said
19:16when they saw the start
19:17of the side
19:18at the beginning of the game
19:20that it wasn't so much
19:21a team selection
19:21as a suicide note
19:22only time will tell that
19:24John
19:24it's not looking very good
19:26for him I have to say
19:27not at this moment
19:28well what's happening here
19:31now is
19:32very high on the
19:34significance rating
19:36in football
19:36in the
19:37terms of Newcastle United
19:39because Phillips is breaking
19:40again here
19:41and
19:42he's taken the defender
19:43oh he hasn't
19:44it was a very good
19:46saving tackle on Phillips
19:47by Gomar
19:49that's a super ball
19:51as well
19:52as it played early
19:53Gomar just stayed with Phillips
19:55and timed his tackle
19:56perfectly
19:57well Sunderland will be
19:58in no hurry from now on
20:00but
20:00Bold is slowly making
20:03his way forward
20:03seven minutes left
20:05they have a corner
20:07and that is Steve Bold
20:13Phillips in front of the goalkeeper
20:15oh he hooked that as well
20:16and Niall Quinn
20:17was within a whisker
20:19of getting a foot
20:19on the
20:20on the last touch
20:21well there will be some
20:26leaving
20:27and they will be
20:28discurited as well
20:29as soaking wet
20:30having said that
20:36the loyalty of those
20:36inside the ground
20:37is still amazing
20:38they're still chanting
20:39for Newcastle
20:40that's always been
20:41the case up here
20:42well they've had a
20:45double whammy tonight
20:46so far haven't they
20:47soaked by the weather
20:48and beaten by the local
20:49opposition
20:50here's Duncan Ferguson
20:51what can Shearer do
20:52what can
20:53oh and there's the
20:54equaliser is it
20:55no
20:55what a chance
20:57for Solano
20:58well it looked really
21:00when he drew his right
21:01foot back
21:02as though he's just
21:02going to place it
21:03inside Sorensen's
21:04near post
21:05we were just writing
21:07the obituaries there
21:08Mark
21:08and he curled it
21:09the wrong side
21:10of the post
21:10this is the best
21:15opportunity of the
21:16second half
21:17for Newcastle
21:18Sorensen thought
21:19it was in
21:19I think everybody
21:20thought it was in
21:21this is McLean
21:28Solano who missed
21:31that very good chance
21:32Domi is to his left
21:34this is Ferguson
21:34oh and a Sunderland
21:35player's done that
21:36he's hit the bar
21:38Kevin Ball
21:41nearly scored
21:43the most spectacular
21:44of own goals
21:46what on earth
21:47happened there
21:48he got his foot to it
21:49and it's come back
21:50off the bar
21:51and now arguments
21:52in the penalty area
21:53Newcastle have a
21:54last minute corner
21:55Shearer's there
21:56Ferguson's there
21:57and there's some
21:59pushing and shoving
22:00some arms out
22:02Shearer comes in
22:04and Sunderland
22:05have got the ball
22:07out for a throw
22:08in
22:08this is the last
22:12throw of the dice
22:13Dabby's ass is in
22:15there
22:15and it's a goal
22:17kick
22:17and I really think
22:18Mark
22:18that that's it
22:21for Newcastle
22:21well I thought
22:22for a second
22:23I mean
22:23Kevin Ball
22:24was just being
22:24honest in winning
22:25the tackle
22:26he went in
22:26very very firmly
22:27he caught the ball
22:28so well
22:29Sorensen was beaten
22:30completely when he
22:31clipped the top
22:31of the crossbar
22:32it was an amazing
22:33incident
22:33and it could have
22:35saved Newcastle a
22:36point
22:36it might have
22:38saved a few heads
22:39but I don't know
22:40what happens now
22:41at St James' Park
22:42because Rude Hollett's
22:43team are going to
22:43be booed off
22:44they took the lead
22:46again
22:46and once more
22:48they faded in the
22:49second half
22:50and the double act
22:51of Quinn and Phillips
22:52let's not talk
22:53just about Newcastle
22:54this is a big win
22:55for Sunderland
22:55and Peter Reid
22:56no wonder they
22:57acknowledge their
22:58small band of fans
22:59a brilliant
23:00turnaround from their
23:02point of view
23:02Quinn's equaliser
23:03a really astute
23:05winning goal
23:06by Kevin Phillips
23:07and then that
23:08extraordinary moment
23:09at the end
23:10when Kevin Ball
23:10hit his own bar
23:11from 30 yards
23:13but Sunderland
23:14have taken the
23:15three points
23:16in the north-east
23:17derby
23:17and the big question
23:19in this part of
23:19the world now
23:20which will be asked
23:21I'm sure
23:22all over the country
23:24is
23:25where does that
23:26leave Newcastle
23:26United and Rude
23:27Hollett
23:27what it does do
23:29it leaves them
23:29with only one point
23:31from five games
23:33Rude it's not unusual
23:37for a manager
23:37to gamble
23:38with his selection
23:39but it would appear
23:40tonight
23:40the gamble
23:41didn't pay off
23:41I didn't gamble
23:43because it paid off
23:45and when the two
23:47came on
23:48then we get
23:49some goals against
23:50so it was
23:51going all well
23:52and it's not a gamble
23:53it's just what you see
23:55and we were 1-0 up
23:56you left Scherer
23:59and Duncan Ferguson
24:00out of the side
24:01something like
24:0125-24 million pounds
24:04on the bench
24:04what was the
24:05consideration behind that
24:06I think that
24:07Robinson did very well
24:11on the last game
24:12and he did also well
24:13and we were 1-0 up
24:14everything was okay
24:14and then in the second half
24:17we conceded a goal
24:18again
24:19in free kick
24:20of standard situation
24:21and
24:23yeah
24:24then you have to
24:25then you have to go
24:26back to your basics
24:27and you try to do that
24:29and then we
24:31then they scored
24:32another one
24:32when you saw
24:34the Newcastle side
24:35the team sheet
24:36come through
24:36what went through
24:37your mind
24:37well it's a difficult one
24:41because
24:41obviously their manager
24:42he picks the team
24:44but I must say
24:45hand on heart
24:46I was pleased
24:46that Scherer didn't start
24:47Kerry first of all
24:50the conditions
24:50there's a doubt
24:51as to whether
24:52it was actually playable
24:52I can't believe
24:55you're asking
24:55a Sunderland player
24:56that question
24:56I'm going to come out
24:57with the obvious
24:57I thought the conditions
24:58were tremendous
24:59tonight
24:59I couldn't see a problem
25:00with the pitch at all
25:00the fact that the ball
25:02may not have rolled
25:02cleanly at times
25:03was quite irrelevant
25:04obviously the night wore on
25:06the pitch got heavier
25:07and heavier
25:07but in the same token
25:08it was the same for both teams
25:09we adapted to it well
25:10and come away with what I felt
25:11was a thoroughly deserved win
25:13are you considering
25:14your future here
25:14I'm always considering
25:17my future
25:18everywhere I am
25:19you're a high profile figure
25:22speculation will always
25:23follow you
25:24but there is no suggestion
25:26in 48 hours
25:28whatever
25:28you might change your mind
25:29and walk away
25:29from Newcastle United
25:30they asked me already
25:33after Southampton
25:34I think
25:34they asked me
25:35I think it's now
25:37I feel that I'm still
25:38the coach of Newcastle
25:40so that's the most
25:41important thing
25:41as long as I've known
25:42when your heart's in
25:44something
25:44then things happen
25:45is your heart still here
25:46still involved in doing
25:47the job
25:48you almost suggest
25:51that I have no heart
25:52in it
25:52far beat from me
25:53to suggest that
25:54oh okay
25:55no I put all
25:57everything I have
25:58I put in there
25:58and like I said
26:00you look at it
26:01in the beginning
26:01and you think
26:02that's going well
26:03everything is going
26:04as planned
26:06yeah you put up
26:07two substitutes
26:08and you lose the game
26:09so what is the gamble
26:11then
26:11did I have to
26:12substitute them anyway
26:14or did I have to
26:15leave the team
26:15as it was or not
26:16so that is always
26:18after it
26:18but in the beginning
26:20everybody was happy
26:21I thought
26:21Garth Crook's making
26:24the suggestions
26:24there
26:24extraordinary decision
26:26wasn't it
26:27I mean to leave out
26:28Alan Shearer
26:28but not just to leave him
26:29out but for a young lad
26:30really
26:31I mean totally
26:32unbelievable
26:32as you say
26:33and rumours have been
26:35coming out of Newcastle
26:36for a while
26:37that there's problems
26:37between
26:38Hoolett and Shearer
26:39and certainly
26:41I've always thought
26:41there's no rumours
26:43come out when teams
26:43are doing particularly well
26:44it's always when
26:45they're doing badly
26:45but the decision
26:46tonight not to play
26:47would substantiate
26:48that rumour
26:49and normally when
26:51the manager of football
26:52club and the star
26:52player have a problem
26:54either it gets resolved
26:56quickly or the star
26:56player moves on
26:57but I don't think
26:58it's going to be
26:59that case
27:00in this instance
27:01because of the fact
27:03that if you say
27:03you've got a dodgy
27:04forward look at this
27:05this is unbelievable
27:06commitment here
27:07to Shearer
27:08right
27:08he's going to go
27:09on the pitch
27:10and give it his best
27:11shot every single time
27:12now if you say
27:13you're a temperamental
27:14foreigner
27:14right and he says
27:15right I don't want
27:16to go on the bench
27:16or I don't want to play
27:17then the crowd
27:19can change quickly
27:19the crowd love this man
27:21and I think the
27:22supporters play
27:22a big part
27:23in who stays
27:24and who goes
27:25but as far as
27:26Newcastle is concerned
27:27obviously the results
27:28have got to come
27:28quickly
27:30I think Chelsea
27:31Manchester United
27:31in the next two
27:32matches
27:32and I mean
27:34will they get
27:34anything out of
27:35these two matches
27:36and will Hullet be
27:36the manager
27:37how do you say it
27:38now
27:38well I think
27:39basically that if
27:40they don't win
27:41or they don't get a
27:42result in the next
27:43two matches
27:43then he'll go
27:44I mean he's under
27:44tremendous pressure
27:45as it is
27:45he's left out
27:47he's star player
27:47he's brought a lot
27:49of people in
27:50over the summer
27:51Newcastle board
27:53have got history
27:54of getting rid of
27:54the people quickly
27:55as I say
27:57you said something
27:58that he brought
27:58on Ferguson
27:59before Shearer
28:00it was almost
28:00like making a point
28:01it's making a point
28:02yeah
28:02and the thing is
28:03you know
28:04if he's in
28:06a perilous situation
28:08I think
28:09play percentages
28:10you know
28:11start with Shearer
28:12and you've only got
28:13a problem
28:13and Shearer's going
28:14to give it
28:15as I said
28:15his best shot
28:16he's going to go
28:16on there
28:17he's going to play
28:18to his potential
28:19he's going to be
28:20as honest as it is
28:21long
28:21and then Hullet
28:22doesn't he come
28:22under more pressure
28:23and then to put
28:25Ferguson on
28:26on before Shearer
28:27is just saying
28:28like you know
28:29I don't fancy
28:30this guy at all
28:31could run for a while
28:32all the talk
28:32over the next couple
28:33of days
28:33will no doubt
28:33be about Hullet
28:34and Shearer
28:35and Shearer
