Magandang umaga, Coach Vernon.
00:21Magandang umaga, sir.
00:24Good morning, good morning ma'am.
00:26Magandang umaga sa ating mga taga-panood, mga taga-paktik. Maraming salamat for inviting nyo.
00:33Coach Vernon, it was a do-or-die game against Afghanistan.
00:46Right after the game talaga nag-iyakan yung mga players natin.
00:51Ano kasi, for the past two meetings with Afghanistan, medyo hindi tayo pinalad.
01:00So, the boys are really raring to win that game.
01:08Malakas kasi yung Afghanistan.
01:12But then, with the proper preparations, medyo naging maganda yung execution natin.
01:18So, talagang very close yung match from start to finish.
01:23So, the last ano lang yata, last three, five minutes,
01:27medyo nakalamang tayo ng malaki-laki.
01:30Coach Vernon, again, congratulations.
01:34Ano po yung pinakamahalagang strategy sa tournament?
01:42Kasi we have been grouped four teams each, sa dalawang pool.
01:49Then, ang format kasi is for whoever topped the group on both groups,
01:59papasok dun sa Division 1.
02:01So, unfortunately, we didn't make it nung sa Division 1 kasi
02:05natalo tayo sa crossover semis with Iraq.
02:09So, a hard-fought game din.
02:11Two days before the final game with Afghanistan.
02:14But then, yung final ticket was achieved nga or when we won against Afghanistan.
02:22Yung first two games natin was very good with Saudi Arabia and Chinese Taipei.
02:38But then, it's a very good tournament for us.
02:42Kasi we have prepared for it, medyo mahaba-haba din.
02:46And talagang ang goal lang is to be part or to be qualified dun sa Asian Paragames in Nagoya in 2026.
03:00Right now, we're very happy nga for qualifying.
03:06Kasi it will be our second pa lang.
03:09So, we first entered the Asian Paragames last, 2022, in Hangzhou, China.
03:18Coach Vernon, ano sa tingin nyo yung naging biggest factor nung pagkapanalan nyo this competition?
03:24Was it execution? Was it your composure?
03:27O yung chemistry ng kopunan?
03:31In my whole coaching job with wheelchair basketball,
03:41this will be, I think, this is my pinakamasayang panalo.
03:47Because I have seen the team grow.
03:51Yung, ang nagdala ng panalo sa atin is yung defense and yung character ng team na ipakita natin dito.
03:59Kasi all of our wins and even our losses, both losses natin,
04:06are very close matches.
04:10Talagang close and we've been battling yung ating development ng character ng team ever since.
04:21But then, here we have shown that the team is maturing already.
04:27Puro close matches, hindi bumibigay.
04:29Normally, before, pagka lalamang tayo, then bumibigay in the end.
04:32Pero ngayon, talagang all throughout the game, ando doon tayo.
04:35Ando doon lahat-lahat ng gamitin natin players are very much into the game
04:40and they are very much willing to contribute with whatever minutes I have given them.
04:57What were your advice sa kanila?
05:00Well, really, it is different here with wheelchair basketball, unlike yung regular basketball.
05:07Kasi dito sa wheelchair basketball, you have to find an opponent before the start of the competition
05:17to have tune-up games.
05:20Kasi wala tayong makalaban ng tune-up dito.
05:22Anyway, so iba yung level ng international.
05:25So, most of the teams or all of the teams are using their practice sessions before the opening
05:32ng tournament para humanap ng ka-tune-up.
05:38So, luckily, we had our tune-up game with China two days before our first game.
05:46Kaya lang, normal sa team na dahil wala tayong tune-up before the season,
05:52talagang ang lamig-lamig natin.
05:54That's the reason why we lost to Kuwait.
05:58Normally, lagi tayong mga first game natin na nabibitawan natin.
06:02Siguro, ang improvement na pwede natin gawin and realization is to have more international games,
06:08even not major games like this one, pero to help us prepare for big events like this.
06:18But then, yung character ng team have been developed already,
06:26and I hope it will continue in the future.
06:44Coach Vernon, ano po yung naging biggest challenge, at the same time, biggest lesson,
06:49mula sa campaign niyo sa Bangkok?
06:50Biggest challenge was, siguro, yung, ano, yung, in terms of our preparation din,
07:04yun nga, we have been blessed with support from PSC and Phil Spada,
07:12with regard to the facility that we use, yung basketball gym.
07:23two months before the, or three months before the competition.
07:26But then, yung tune-up game talaga, ang malaking challenge,
07:29and yung mga equipment na kailangan na i-repair every now and then,
07:33yung help ng mga players during the preparation,
07:41yung weather natin that prohibited us from training today,
07:45So, maraming challenges, but then, alam naman natin,
07:50ang Pilipino, basta basketball yan, and the passion natin yan,
07:54even bumabag yun, naglalaro, nagte-training itong ating mga players.
08:01Coach Vernon, you talked about the challenges,
08:04papasok na, maghahanda na tayo for the 2026 Asian Fire Games,
08:12ano po yung plano nyo in order to improve and prepare well
08:16for the 2026 Asian Fire Games?
08:18First, I gave the players one-week rest,
08:24except for our three members of the team
08:28who are also playing in the under-23 3X3 in Dubai
08:32in a few weeks' time, so wala tayo talagang pahinga.
08:45But then, after a few days,
08:51to prepare for the 2026 Asian Fire Games in January.
08:55So, we have to re-check or revisit our equipment.
09:01Marami kasing mga na-damage,
09:03kasi, alam mo, ano to, very banggaan kasing banggaan,
09:09contract sport din talaga,
09:10yung wheelchair basketball, so,
09:12kailangan ni-revisit yun.
09:14That's the main thing right now.
09:17And of course,
09:18they have to remain healthy all throughout,
09:23until matapos yung Asian Fire Games.
09:26Coach, na-mention ninyo na you will resume your training tomorrow,
09:34Kailangan ba ng improvement in terms of defense, offense, transition, accuracy of shooting?
09:40Ano po ba yung magiging focus or priority ng ating training program?
09:44Of course, ang shooting drills naman natin is being done all throughout the year yun.
09:53But then, yung defense natin,
09:55then we have to check on our transition defense,
10:00like how to be more fast in going down the court in defense.
10:09Sa pass break ng kalaban, we have to limit.
10:13Kasi we're looking at Thailand right now,
10:15sa Asian Fire Games, and they're very fast.
10:18We're working on our defense sa half court,
10:23because Thailand is known sa three-pig nila na combination na lahat tumitira ng three points.
10:33So, we have to do early closeout dun sa mga shooters.
10:39We have to strengthen our interior defense para dun sa mga cutters,
10:42kasi malalaki rin sila.
10:44So, we cannot afford to rest talaga.
10:51Coach Vernon, speaking of the priority,
10:53pagdating naman po sa mga critical matches,
10:56how do you motivate your players?
10:57They have, we are, we are, we have prepared for the, you know, for the competition.
11:09Every competition that we play, we are very much prepared.
11:13But then, motivation for these players are very simple.
11:20They love the game, that's why they're here.
11:22That's why they play for the country.
11:24Ang number one sa kanila kasi is to represent the country very well.
11:30And to show, they know that the Filipinos are watching.
11:35Their countrymen are watching back home.
11:38So, alam nila na we have to show the Filipinos
11:42that wheelchair basketball is a sport that is very competitive
11:47and not being played lang to entertain
11:50ang mga ibang tao sa mga piestas
11:54and mga special events.
11:56So, they want to prove that their sport is
12:01a sport that everybody would love.
12:19This is a Paralympic sport that everybody have to see and to watch.
12:26So, yun na nag-motivate sa kanila
12:28to represent the country very well.
12:45mahigpit natin magiging kalaban?
12:47Well, one is Malaysia.
12:52Malaysia is a strong team also in the ASEAN FIRA Games.
12:56We're looking at Indonesia also.
13:01And I hope
13:01ang Myanmar
13:05makalaro ulit in Singapore.
13:09So, every team naman in the ASEAN region
13:15are continuously working on their game.
13:19So, we don't want to really be complacent.
13:26And I don't want the players to feel that we are strong.
13:30We are strong versus the opponent.
13:35So, we have to play one game at a time.
13:40Do what we can do best to win games.
13:47One game after another
13:51para makarating kami sa finals
13:52on the 3X3 event and the 5.15.
13:59Meron po ba tayong nakalinyang mga training camps
14:02or invitational tournaments
14:04in preparation for this upcoming tournament?
14:10It's very close already.
14:12It will be in January na.
14:14Kaya wala na tayong nakikita
14:16wala na tayong nakikita
14:18mga upcoming invitational tournaments.
14:25Local tournaments.
14:26Wala rin naman tayong nagagawa na
14:27na
14:28na
14:32ano
14:32nakikita
14:33na
14:33go hold it
14:34except for the
14:35Philippine National Paragames
14:37which
14:37wala nga yung taon.
14:40Coach Vernon, this is our last
14:42So, we'll just have
14:43Okay pa. Go on.
14:47Go ahead, Coach.
14:48Yeah.
14:49International tournament
14:50wala na.
14:51It's very close already
14:52in January na.
14:53Yung ASEAN Paragames.
14:54So, we have to contend with
14:56ano lang
14:56with our own
14:58training sessions,
15:00scrimmages,
15:02local competitions.
15:04Wala naman match dito.
15:06We have
15:07programs for
15:08LGUs
15:09but for the national team
15:11locally
15:11wala.
15:12Wala nang ano
15:13walang nakaprogram.
15:14Camps naman
15:15everyday
15:17nag-training tayo
15:18but
15:19camps are being held
15:21for
15:21as part of our
15:23grassroots program.
15:24program to develop
15:25players
15:27all over the country
15:29but for the national team
15:30wala na tayo nakikita.
15:33Maybe after the
15:34ASEAN Paragames
15:35there are
15:36some international
15:37camps and
15:38competitions
15:39that we will be
15:40attending
15:40hopefully
15:41so
15:42in preparation
15:44for Nag-Uoyana.
15:45Coach, sorry for
15:48interrupting nyo po
15:49kanina
15:49but for our last
