00:01:00Hi, Sandy. How's Tom?
00:01:01Hi, Mary.
00:01:01He's great, thanks.
00:01:03Are you thinking of a trip to Bali?
00:01:05Dreaming about it, maybe.
00:01:06Well, go in the spring before the high season starts.
00:01:09It's less crowded, and the weather is gorgeous.
00:01:11Wow. Have you been?
00:01:13No.
00:01:14But I have read that book from cover to cover,
00:01:16so it's almost like I've been there.
00:01:17And while you're in the area, you know,
00:01:20Australia is not that far away,
00:01:22and it's absolutely beautiful.
00:01:24Be ashamed to miss it.
00:01:24You've been to Australia?
00:01:26No. Another great book.
00:01:29Okay, well, good to know.
00:01:31Let me know if you need anything.
00:01:33Okay, will do.
00:01:34Thanks.
00:01:43Hey, I just poured that for myself.
00:01:46Mary, don't you remember anything Mom and Dad taught us about sharing?
00:01:48Wait a second.
00:01:51Weren't you supposed to have study group today?
00:01:52I did. We quizzed each other while we were shooting hoops.
00:01:55Hoops?
00:01:56Basketball.
00:01:57Tyler, I love that you're going to business school.
00:01:59I do, but you need to take it seriously.
00:02:02I know. I am.
00:02:03Okay, well, dribbling hoops doesn't sound like seriously.
00:02:06Dribbling hoops. Wow, you really are a sports nut, aren't you?
00:02:09Did you check the year-end reports?
00:02:10I did. They are not bad.
00:02:13Not bad.
00:02:16Mary, the first thing they teach us in business school is numbers in red are not good.
00:02:20It's a slow time. It'll pick up.
00:02:23Have you talked to Mom and Dad?
00:02:25No. And you're not going to either.
00:02:27Because the store is ours, they're retired, and this red stuff, it's our problem now.
00:02:31Well, then we really need to talk about updating the store.
00:02:33We have a website. We have a Facebook page.
00:02:35So we're competitive with ten years ago.
00:02:37Tyler, On the Same Page has been here for almost 40 years because we're traditional.
00:02:44This is a place where people can come in and pick up a book and have a conversation about it with another human being.
00:02:49If there was another human being here, that is.
00:02:52Look, this is a bookstore.
00:02:53It's not a web arcade digital virtual cyber hacking zone.
00:02:58You have no idea what you're saying, do you?
00:03:00No, I don't.
00:03:01The point is, we haven't survived for almost 40 years by trying to be something that we're not.
00:03:07We've done it by being who we are.
00:03:09Then why are you meeting with Janet and Levy?
00:03:11Because we went to college together.
00:03:13And she runs a big PR firm.
00:03:14All right, fine. She offered to help out with the 40th anniversary.
00:03:17Wow. She must be a really big deal if you're going all the way downtown.
00:03:20I mean, that is a big adventure for you.
00:03:22Is this the part where you're taking things more seriously?
00:03:27Oh, man. He did it again.
00:03:29Who did what?
00:03:30Adam Claiborne.
00:03:31Who?
00:03:32The Denver Royals hockey player.
00:03:34He got into it with a ref last night and got booted from the game.
00:03:37Hockey. That's the one where you throw the old pigskin down the field, yes?
00:03:41Sometimes I can't tell if you're joking.
00:03:44I just don't care about some guy in cleats getting kicked out of a game.
00:03:46Skates? Hockey? He's played on skates.
00:03:48I know what hockey is.
00:03:49Do you?
00:03:51Go away.
00:03:53Hmm.
00:04:00Uncle Adam!
00:04:07Oh, come on in, Grandma.
00:04:11Can you play monster?
00:04:14Yeah, sure.
00:04:15Okay, little guy. Let's get you dressed so Uncle Adam can get some sleep.
00:04:32No.
00:04:32You know, we do have a guest room.
00:04:35What can I say? I like sofas.
00:04:36Sure you do.
00:04:40Come on.
00:04:41I didn't need any help.
00:04:42It's a little early for monster, isn't it?
00:04:44It's never too early for games that amuse four-year-olds.
00:04:46Or the grown-ups who act like them.
00:04:48It is too early for a lecture, though.
00:04:50Maybe you should have slept at your place instead of on my couch.
00:04:52Press was camped out of my place downtown.
00:04:55I wasn't in the mood.
00:04:55Yeah, I know.
00:04:56Erica keeps calling your phone, and when you don't pick up, she calls mine.
00:04:59Over and over and over again.
00:05:01Did you tell her I was here?
00:05:02No, but I'm pretty sure she knows.
00:05:04She's got powers or something.
00:05:06Chuck, she's the president of a hockey team.
00:05:07She's not a wizard.
00:05:08And she's also really mad at you.
00:05:10Erica is always mad at me.
00:05:12Yeah, because you keep causing trouble and costing us games.
00:05:14No.
00:05:15It's because we dated years ago, and she still hasn't gotten over the fact that I broke up with her.
00:05:20Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's the losing the game part.
00:05:23Adam, you've been ejected from three games this season.
00:05:25What happened to you?
00:05:28Whoa.
00:05:29When we were on the team in Texas, we were the wild ones.
00:05:32Well, I got traded to Denver.
00:05:34I met Sarah, got married, and had a kid.
00:05:36I grew up.
00:05:37Maybe you should try it.
00:05:38What?
00:05:39And lose my childlike sense of wonder?
00:05:42It's so quiet out here in the suburbs.
00:05:44Why don't you move back downtown?
00:05:46Because I am happy.
00:05:48Again, maybe you should try it.
00:05:51Look, I'm the one who had to convince Erica to bring you here because I promised her that you have changed.
00:05:55This is why you got kicked off the Texas team, Seattle and New Jersey.
00:05:59New Jersey was not my fault.
00:06:00The guy on the other team started.
00:06:02Well, according to you, it's always the other guy.
00:06:04If Erica cuts you from the team...
00:06:06Erica's not going to cut me.
00:06:08Okay.
00:06:09Answer the phone, then.
00:06:10I will.
00:06:13After I get some air and a coffee.
00:06:15I'll see you.
00:06:18Most of our coffee.
00:06:45Can I help you, sir?
00:06:58Coffee.
00:06:59Fuck.
00:07:00Oh, we don't have coffee.
00:07:03Oh, well, that's mine.
00:07:05I'll take whatever you've got.
00:07:06Except none of that weird flavored stuff.
00:07:08If I wanted hazelnuts in my coffee, I'd go to wherever hazelnuts are from.
00:07:11Oh, well, now that is interesting.
00:07:13You know, they originally thought that they were from Damascus, but now evidence points
00:07:17to Scotland almost 9,000 years ago.
00:07:20Can I just get my coffee?
00:07:22Uh, we don't have coffee.
00:07:25Oh, okay.
00:07:26I get it.
00:07:26I got to buy a book first in order to get a cup of coffee.
00:07:28No, you have to buy a book because it's a bookstore.
00:07:32Look, Mike.
00:07:34Here.
00:07:35Quilting.
00:07:36You got a problem with that?
00:07:36Nope.
00:07:38That'll be $19.95.
00:07:50Now, can I get my coffee?
00:07:52We don't have coffee.
00:07:54This is a bookstore.
00:07:55All bookstores have coffee.
00:07:56No, they don't.
00:07:56This one doesn't.
00:07:57Then why don't I just buy that book?
00:07:58Because you need a hobby?
00:07:59No, I need a coffee.
00:08:00Yeah, we're right back where we started.
00:08:03I want my money back.
00:08:04Sorry.
00:08:05Sorry.
00:08:06You don't accept returns?
00:08:09People read books, and then they bring them back
00:08:11and expect it to be fun.
00:08:12Yeah, but I just bought that 30 seconds ago.
00:08:14Store policy, no exceptions.
00:08:16Look, I...
00:08:17Just...
00:08:18Great.
00:08:22You know what?
00:08:24Never mind.
00:08:25I'll go find a real bookstore somewhere.
00:08:29Sir?
00:08:31Aren't you forgetting something?
00:08:32Okay.
00:08:36Arrogant.
00:08:42Arrogant.
00:08:46I'm tight.
00:08:49Good one.
00:08:50Okay, so I think we know everyone here, but for the record, I'm Tyler.
00:09:09This is my sister, Mary, and we're here for book chat.
00:09:12Mary, what are we chatting about today?
00:09:13The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, one of my favorite books.
00:09:19You say that every week.
00:09:22How am I supposed to choose?
00:09:23There are too many good books.
00:09:25I mean, the whole world is here.
00:09:29Well, why don't we get started?
00:09:31Now, when I first read The Great Gatsby, I was struck by Fitzgerald's color imagery.
00:09:35He basically talks right about how he looks specifically the colors that he uses.
00:09:40I mean, we can just go right from there.
00:09:42Park outside the heart of my own.
00:09:46I don't know.
00:09:47We'll find people that they're talking about.
00:09:48I don't know the arties.
00:09:48Go and follow the Daar.
00:09:49By the way, he comes to the Carlo and Gatsby.
00:09:50This is an interesting time.
00:09:52I go with the Fairfaxe.
00:09:53Listen, ask me if there's a места Butchette.
00:09:54This is a little fun.
00:09:55I want to give her a hand.
00:09:57If it's a few things, I know.
00:09:58But I can сейчас say the telegrams.
00:09:59Bye-bye.
00:10:01What do you think we're thinking?
00:10:03DANGESCOUD
00:10:04measurable
00:10:05The Great Gatsby by Natalie
00:10:06I am!
00:10:08I'm going to unclear the street what I'm trying to hear.
00:10:09Have a dramatic difference,
00:10:11The Choose and Xavier
00:14:54This is exactly the kind of adventure we should be having.
00:14:57Adventure?
00:14:58It's a Caribbean cruise.
00:14:59Oh.
00:15:00It's all-you-can-eat buffets.
00:15:02It's not wrestling crocodiles in the Amazon.
00:15:05I just think that we should take advantage of the fact
00:15:07that we do not have to worry about the store anymore.
00:15:10Mary and Tyler have got it all under control.
00:15:13Yeah, so how is the business?
00:15:15Paul.
00:15:17Let's find out.
00:15:18Don't worry.
00:15:20Tyler, how's the school, honey?
00:15:21Well, I'm having a little problem.
00:15:25Oh?
00:15:26What is it?
00:15:28There's this one class, and it's just not going well.
00:15:31It's like a balance sheet that keeps coming up red.
00:15:35Oh.
00:15:36Well, what is it about this class that's got you stumped?
00:15:39I've done all my readings for it, obsessively,
00:15:41but I feel like I'm falling behind.
00:15:44Can't keep up.
00:15:45Oh.
00:15:46Well, have you asked for any help?
00:15:47Not really.
00:15:48That's not true.
00:15:49He.
00:15:51Well, you've gone to advisors.
00:15:52You just haven't figured out exactly what to do yet.
00:15:55Hmm.
00:15:56Well, you gotta do what you gotta do, kiddo.
00:15:59Mm-hmm.
00:15:59Your mother's right, Tyler.
00:16:01I mean, if you've got these advisors giving you advice,
00:16:04you should listen to it.
00:16:05Mm-hmm.
00:16:05Even if it means doing something outside of your comfort zone.
00:16:08Hmm.
00:16:09Wait.
00:16:10Like going on a cruise?
00:16:14And that, right there, kids,
00:16:16that is why I married your mother.
00:16:18I'll take some wine, please.
00:16:22Yeah, me too.
00:16:23I feel like I'm waiting for the principal to put me in detention.
00:16:45It's not that bad.
00:16:47It's what I tried to tell Erica.
00:16:49Oh, don't get me wrong.
00:16:50It's bad.
00:16:51But we can repair this.
00:16:53We just need to find a way to make people like you.
00:16:58People like me.
00:17:00Oh, no.
00:17:02They don't.
00:17:03I had my team do a flash poll last night after Erica called me,
00:17:07and while the results, they weren't good.
00:17:12Telemarketers have higher likability than you do.
00:17:16That's disturbing.
00:17:18But the good news is that they want to like you.
00:17:21They love the idea of a second chance,
00:17:22and they are open to giving you one.
00:17:24How?
00:17:25Well, one strategy I've used in the past
00:17:28is sort of like a buddy system.
00:17:29We pair you with a respected member of the community,
00:17:32someone who can balance things out.
00:17:34According to this,
00:17:35Mold has a higher score than I do.
00:17:36Who would want to be paired with me?
00:17:38You'd be surprised.
00:17:40We get you involved in local activities,
00:17:42maybe do some volunteer work.
00:17:43It's good PR for both you and whoever we pair you up with.
00:17:46Did you have someone in mind?
00:17:49Not yet, but...
00:17:50Sorry.
00:17:52Hold on.
00:17:54Hi.
00:17:57Send her in.
00:17:59Mary.
00:18:08Hi.
00:18:09I'm so sorry to come by unannounced.
00:18:11I just wanted to be very clear
00:18:12that I'm so ready to do whatever it takes to make this work.
00:18:16Excellent, because I know just what to do.
00:18:18I'm going to pair you with one of my other clients,
00:18:20and you are both going to solve each other's problems.
00:18:22That's wonderful.
00:18:23Who?
00:18:24Mary Campbell.
00:18:25Adam Claiborne.
00:18:28You.
00:18:29You.
00:18:32Shall we get started?
00:18:33No!
00:18:34The hockey team will pay for everything.
00:18:38This way, we can put together a big to-do
00:18:40for the 40th anniversary of the store,
00:18:42and he can host it or sign jerseys or something.
00:18:45We can sponsor a junior hockey team.
00:18:47You can coach it.
00:18:48You and cute kids,
00:18:49this is the kind of immediate boost of goodwill
00:18:51that you need in order to get back on the team.
00:18:53Because when it works,
00:18:55when we take an uncouth hockey player
00:18:57and turn him into a cultured book lover
00:19:00who helps the community,
00:19:01you are going to get the credit for that.
00:19:03You can be the hero
00:19:05that rescues the beloved neighborhood institution.
00:19:08It's like you're Superman,
00:19:10and she's your Lois Lane.
00:19:13It's like you're Henry Higgins
00:19:15to his Eliza Doolittle.
00:19:17It's a second chance you need
00:19:19to reinvent the bookstore.
00:19:21Besides,
00:19:22if things are as bad as you say they are,
00:19:24you need a fresh start.
00:19:25You need to do something big
00:19:28to save the bookstore.
00:19:31You need a new beginning.
00:19:34This could be your last chance
00:19:35to save your career.
00:19:36Thank you.
00:19:55Give it a chance.
00:20:05Good morning.
00:20:06Hi, Janet Dunleavy.
00:20:07Hi, I'm Mary's brother, Tyler,
00:20:09and you are Adam Claiborne.
00:20:10I'm a huge fan.
00:20:12I can see that.
00:20:13Wait, Mary, Tyler,
00:20:15I've got more to that story.
00:20:17That's our mother's favorite show.
00:20:18Could be worse.
00:20:18It could be called Joanie and Chachi.
00:20:20Why don't we get started?
00:20:21So, first off, great news.
00:20:23I got a permit to do a winter festival
00:20:25party out in front of the bookstore
00:20:26for the 40th anniversary,
00:20:28which is our big chance
00:20:29to reach a lot of people at once.
00:20:31It's in four weeks.
00:20:33Four weeks?
00:20:33Is that enough time
00:20:34to get everything ready?
00:20:35Mm-hmm.
00:20:36That's why we're here.
00:20:36We can brainstorm ideas.
00:20:38We need a big one.
00:20:40A showcase idea.
00:20:42Anybody?
00:20:43How about a food truck?
00:20:44Maybe one that serves coffee.
00:20:46How's the quilt coming?
00:20:46I'm just saying,
00:20:47I've never seen a book
00:20:48so they didn't have coffee.
00:20:49Is it a lot of them, do you?
00:20:50You don't know me.
00:20:51What was the last book you read?
00:20:52Oh, and Sports Illustrated?
00:20:54Not a book.
00:20:55Okay, why don't we put a pin in that?
00:20:59How about we talk about
00:21:00the junior hockey team
00:21:01we're going to sponsor?
00:21:02We'll get a photographer
00:21:03to come out
00:21:04and get Adam coaching the kids
00:21:05and not the game.
00:21:05Oh, he's going to coach kids.
00:21:07Hey, I'm great with kids.
00:21:08Yes, because you are one.
00:21:09You know, I'm here to help you.
00:21:11You need me more than I need you.
00:21:12What was that?
00:21:13I said you need me more.
00:21:13Oh, I couldn't hear you
00:21:14over the racket
00:21:15all your customers are making.
00:21:16I think this is going great.
00:21:18Mm-hmm.
00:21:18You don't understand.
00:21:22She's impossible.
00:21:23Oh, I understand impossible, Adam.
00:21:26You mean me?
00:21:27No.
00:21:28She's worse.
00:21:29She thinks she knows everything.
00:21:30She always has to be right.
00:21:32So you two have a lot in common.
00:21:33Why are you here?
00:21:36Moral?
00:21:36Support?
00:21:36You two are enjoying this, aren't you?
00:21:39Well, yeah, absolutely.
00:21:41Oh.
00:21:46This is a terrible idea.
00:21:48Mary, this is exactly
00:21:49the kind of PR side
00:21:50the bookstore needs, okay?
00:21:51It's going to be amazing.
00:21:52We can still back out.
00:21:54I'm putting up posters.
00:21:55We haven't finished yet.
00:21:56Not too late.
00:21:57Sorry.
00:21:57No backing out now.
00:22:02I'll just put them back up.
00:22:04Really?
00:22:06Are we starting soon?
00:22:25Yes, we are.
00:22:27We are just waiting for your coach.
00:22:29Adam Claiborne, right?
00:22:31Right.
00:22:32He's tough.
00:22:33Mm-hmm.
00:22:33It's cool how he argues with the refs.
00:22:35No, it isn't.
00:22:42You're late.
00:22:44Sorry, I'm not used to it.
00:22:45Responsibility?
00:22:46Mornings.
00:22:47Wow.
00:22:48It's really you.
00:22:50I'm Coach Adam.
00:22:51What's your name?
00:22:52Noah.
00:22:53Nice to meet you, Noah.
00:22:54Would you mind telling Noah
00:22:55that getting into trouble isn't cool?
00:22:56Absolutely not.
00:22:59I mean, although...
00:23:00What are you doing?
00:23:01Well, I was just going to say
00:23:02that sometimes when a ref makes a really bad call,
00:23:04you can't just say nothing.
00:23:05For instance, this one time in Albuquerque, we...
00:23:07No!
00:23:07You are not allowed to tell a 12-year-old
00:23:09about that one time in Albuquerque.
00:23:11You don't even know what happened.
00:23:12If you were involved,
00:23:13it could not have been good.
00:23:15Now, listen.
00:23:15For some reason that is totally beyond my comprehension,
00:23:18you are a role model to these kids,
00:23:19so be a good one.
00:23:20No, repeat after me.
00:23:23Trouble.
00:23:24Not cool.
00:23:26Trouble.
00:23:27Not cool.
00:23:28He's right.
00:23:29So, you can tell your friends that,
00:23:31and we'll be over in a second, okay?
00:23:34All right.
00:23:39It's going to be a disaster.
00:23:41Okay.
00:23:42No matter what we might think of each other,
00:23:44I think we can both agree
00:23:45that the most important thing here is the team,
00:23:47and making sure they have a good time.
00:23:48So, how about we call a truce
00:23:50until after practice?
00:23:54Agreed.
00:23:57Okay.
00:24:01Hey, kids.
00:24:02Let's get up.
00:24:03All right.
00:24:08All right.
00:24:10I'm Adam Claiborne,
00:24:11and I'm going to be your coach.
00:24:13And I am Mary Campbell.
00:24:15I am sponsoring the team.
00:24:17Well, actually, uh,
00:24:18on the same page.
00:24:19Yes.
00:24:20Okay.
00:24:20Who plays what position?
00:24:22Shouldn't you ask them to introduce themselves first?
00:24:24That's what I was just doing.
00:24:25No, you asked them what they do on the team.
00:24:28You didn't ask them anything about themselves,
00:24:29like what their names are,
00:24:30or their interests,
00:24:31or what they want to be when they grow up,
00:24:33or their favorite book.
00:24:34I like to start in there.
00:24:35This is a hockey team.
00:24:37Yes.
00:24:37So, what are you going to do?
00:24:38Are you just going to call them by their playing places?
00:24:41Playing places?
00:24:41Yes.
00:24:42So, this delightful young human would be the...
00:24:46Please, I would love to hear you list off
00:24:48the playing places of a hockey team.
00:24:53The...
00:24:53Goal...
00:24:54Goalie.
00:24:55Goalie.
00:24:56Who's my goalie?
00:25:00Yes, you are.
00:25:01There you are.
00:25:02Coming for it.
00:25:02Up top.
00:25:05Name another.
00:25:06I think I made my point.
00:25:07I think you made mine.
00:25:12Shall we?
00:25:12Okay, kids.
00:25:13Center ice.
00:25:13Yes!
00:25:14Yes!
00:25:14Come on, Brandon.
00:25:15Come on, Brandon.
00:25:16Come on, Brandon.
00:25:17Come on, Brandon.
00:25:37I finished shutting everything down.
00:25:46You have to do anything tonight?
00:25:46You want to come for dinner with me and my friends?
00:25:48Uh, you know, I think I'm just going to stay in and read.
00:25:51What are you reading?
00:25:53Wuthering Heights.
00:25:54I've read it so many times.
00:25:55It just keeps getting better.
00:25:58Well, don't stay too late.
00:26:01Oh, and if you have any questions about hockey,
00:26:02you can just ask me.
00:26:04Okay.
00:26:07Bring it in, guys.
00:26:17Yes.
00:26:22Any questions?
00:26:23Noah.
00:26:24What happened in Elbequerque?
00:26:25Oh, later.
00:26:28Uh, later.
00:26:29Okay.
00:26:30All right, we're going to crush it out there, right?
00:26:31Yeah!
00:26:32Respectfully, right?
00:26:33Yes, because hockey has a rich history.
00:26:36In fact, it dates back to 1300 when a certain...
00:26:39You're kidding me, right?
00:26:40I think that they could use a little bit of historical context.
00:26:43I mean, just because Noah is the center forward
00:26:45and Jesse is right defense,
00:26:47and they're both working to get the puck into the crease,
00:26:49I don't think that they need to be barbarians about it.
00:26:51No, someone read a book about hockey.
00:26:53Don't know what makes you think that.
00:26:54Because the other day, all you knew was goalie.
00:26:56Didn't want to show off.
00:26:57Well, look, I think it's cute,
00:26:58but how else you stick to the books
00:26:59and let me deal with the important things?
00:27:00You know, like winning.
00:27:01Winning isn't everything.
00:27:02Yes, it is.
00:27:03That's why it's a competitive sport.
00:27:04If there wasn't a winner, it would just be people out there
00:27:07hitting a piece of rubber with a stick.
00:27:08Did you know that the original hockey pucks were made of wood?
00:27:11Stop it.
00:27:11Just...
00:27:12On the same page!
00:27:15They're the front of the net!
00:27:28Hard sportsmanship!
00:27:32Come on, guys, hurry back!
00:27:34Back check, hard!
00:27:36Stay on them, play the man, not the puck!
00:27:38That doesn't make sense.
00:27:39It's the cardinal rule of defense.
00:27:40But we want the puck.
00:27:41Well, yes, we do, but...
00:27:44Yeah.
00:27:46Oh, come on!
00:27:47You can't give him a penalty for that!
00:27:48What happened?
00:27:49We got a penalty.
00:27:50It's totally bogus.
00:27:51Hey, ref, there's no way you call that!
00:27:53I don't think you should be doing it.
00:27:54Let me handle it.
00:27:55It's my team.
00:27:55I'm going to handle it.
00:27:56Handle what?
00:27:57You don't even know what's going on.
00:27:57That's not the point.
00:27:58Hey, ref, ref, let him play, ref.
00:28:00No!
00:28:01Where'd you get your whistle?
00:28:02A Cracker Jack box?
00:28:03You should not be talking to him like that.
00:28:04He's wearing a shirt.
00:28:05Not exactly what I had in mind.
00:28:20Look at this.
00:28:21I do look bonkers.
00:28:22What about me?
00:28:23I need good press, not more bad.
00:28:25Guys, relax.
00:28:26We can fix this.
00:28:26I hope so, because my entire life is in your hands right now.
00:28:29Mine too?
00:28:29See?
00:28:30There.
00:28:30Now you have something in common.
00:28:31Truce.
00:28:36For real this time?
00:28:40Truce.
00:28:41Wonderful.
00:28:42Things are looking up already.
00:28:43Now, we have three weeks into the winter anniversary party,
00:28:46and we still need that showcase idea.
00:28:48How do I fit into this anniversary party?
00:28:50Master of ceremony, signing autographs, kissing babies,
00:28:53whatever it takes.
00:28:54We're going to do a trial run at a book fair this weekend.
00:28:57Aren't book fairs expensive to enter?
00:28:59Not this one.
00:29:00The school board's staging it to promote reading.
00:29:02Besides, the hockey team will cover any expenses.
00:29:04You've got a booth right up front.
00:29:05Oh, thank you.
00:29:06That's so nice.
00:29:07You're welcome.
00:29:08But since there's nothing to host, per se,
00:29:10we need a good reason for Adam to be there.
00:29:12We could bring a bunch of books about hockey.
00:29:14Great idea.
00:29:15Mary, do you know any good books on hockey?
00:29:17Yeah, Mary.
00:29:18Do you?
00:29:22You and Dad had this door for almost 40 years without a problem,
00:29:25and we've had it less than a year,
00:29:26and it's got problems.
00:29:29Honey, you worry too much.
00:29:30I have to.
00:29:31I just don't know how to manage the store
00:29:33and babysit this Adam at the same time.
00:29:36Tyler said he's really nice.
00:29:37He's not.
00:29:39He is reckless.
00:29:41He's immature.
00:29:42He's rude.
00:29:45Why are you smiling like that?
00:29:48Oh.
00:29:49Shakespeare.
00:29:50Just a little quote about
00:29:52the lady doth protest too much.
00:29:54Oh, no.
00:29:55No.
00:29:57No.
00:29:58Not even a little bit.
00:29:59Come on.
00:30:00Excuse me.
00:30:23Hey.
00:30:23What is this?
00:30:24What is a...
00:30:25It's a truck.
00:30:26I know what a truck is.
00:30:27Why is it in front of my store
00:30:29with my sign on it?
00:30:30Oh.
00:30:31You must be Mary.
00:30:32Adam said you might be a little high strung.
00:30:33What?
00:30:35Listen to me.
00:30:36Whatever this is costing,
00:30:38I cannot afford it.
00:30:38No.
00:30:39Adam took care of it.
00:30:40Yeah.
00:30:41Are you opening soon?
00:30:43Because I got about three people
00:30:44waiting to get a book in their free cup, so...
00:30:46Sorry for the delay.
00:30:55Thanks, Adam.
00:30:59Thank you for helping me get set up for the book.
00:31:02It's a spin, remember?
00:31:03I didn't have anything better to do tonight.
00:31:06Thank you also for the coffee truck.
00:31:08That was very nice,
00:31:09and we actually sold a lot of books.
00:31:12Really?
00:31:12Yes, it was a good idea.
00:31:14Maybe a showcase idea.
00:31:16Don't push it.
00:31:18You know, if I don't get back on the team,
00:31:19I can always help you run this place.
00:31:23What are you going to do
00:31:24when you're done with hockey?
00:31:27I don't know.
00:31:28I haven't thought about it.
00:31:30How can you not think about the future,
00:31:31not make a plan?
00:31:32Yeah, I'm more of a
00:31:33live-in-the-moment kind of guy.
00:31:35But without a plan,
00:31:38you're just wandering.
00:31:40Some of the world's greatest discoveries
00:31:42were made by people
00:31:43who were just wandering.
00:31:44Really?
00:31:45Mm-hmm.
00:31:45Name one.
00:31:47Shh.
00:31:48Chocolate chip cookie.
00:31:49What?
00:31:50Some chef was trying to make chocolate cookies
00:31:52and didn't have the right ingredients,
00:31:53so she put chocolate chunks into the batter,
00:31:55thinking it would mix in.
00:31:56It didn't,
00:31:57and that became the chocolate chip cookie.
00:31:59That can't be true.
00:32:00It's true.
00:32:02Surely I would have heard something about this.
00:32:06Mm-hmm.
00:32:06Ruth Wakefield in her kitchen, 1938.
00:32:24Well, I'll be darned.
00:32:25How did you know that?
00:32:26I read things other than Sports Illustrated.
00:32:29What's your favorite book?
00:32:33I don't know.
00:32:34What do you mean you don't know?
00:32:37Nobody's ever asked me that.
00:32:38I mean, surely there was some book
00:32:39that made an impression on you at some point?
00:32:44The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.
00:32:45Really?
00:32:46I read it when I was a kid.
00:32:48Hadn't thought about it since.
00:32:49What did you like about it?
00:32:51Him and Huck Finn,
00:32:52the world without exploring,
00:32:53getting into trouble,
00:32:54and I always...
00:32:56I just like the idea of it.
00:32:58It's a great book.
00:33:00It's one of my favorites, too.
00:33:02Although the book chat audience
00:33:03says that I have too many favorites.
00:33:05That doesn't surprise me.
00:33:12We're reading War of the Worlds next.
00:33:15Oh, they turned that Tom Cruise movie
00:33:17into a novel?
00:33:19I'm kidding.
00:33:23Anyway,
00:33:23here.
00:33:25In case you'd like to join us.
00:33:27You want to hear
00:33:28what I have to say about a book?
00:33:29I want to hear
00:33:29what anyone has to say about a book.
00:33:32I don't know if I'll have time.
00:33:34Right.
00:33:34I still have a couple chapters
00:33:35of that quilting book to go,
00:33:37and I have to see how it ends.
00:33:38Okay.
00:33:53Adam?
00:33:59Picture time.
00:34:00Uh, can't it wait?
00:34:01I'm just talking to a couple fans here.
00:34:03Adam?
00:34:04As on the prize.
00:34:07Sorry, ladies.
00:34:08Duty calls.
00:34:13Thank you.
00:34:13Thank you.
00:34:15Great.
00:34:17What?
00:34:17They were fans.
00:34:18Please.
00:34:20Fans.
00:34:21They were groupies.
00:34:22Why?
00:34:22Because they were pretty?
00:34:24Pretty women can't be hockey fans.
00:34:25I didn't say that.
00:34:26I just don't think that you would be paying
00:34:27so much attention to them
00:34:28if they weren't pretty.
00:34:28That's not true.
00:34:29All people who love hockey
00:34:30are seen equally in my book.
00:34:31Do you even believe
00:34:32the things that come out of your mouth?
00:34:41I'm sorry.
00:34:42I am.
00:34:42And I don't know
00:34:43what it is about him,
00:34:44but he is just so maddening
00:34:46and he just pushes my buttons.
00:34:49It's not that bad.
00:34:50Oh, good.
00:34:51Oh, don't get me wrong.
00:34:52It's bad.
00:34:53May I see the article?
00:34:54I think it's because
00:34:55that you don't.
00:34:56Just the headline?
00:34:56Just something like
00:34:57marrying Adam at it again.
00:34:59Well, you should talk to him.
00:35:00I have.
00:35:01And?
00:35:02And now I'm talking to you.
00:35:03Me?
00:35:04Yes, you.
00:35:07We are going to try this again
00:35:09tomorrow at another event
00:35:11that I've set up
00:35:12and I have some ground rules
00:35:14for the both of you.
00:35:15But he's clearly...
00:35:16Both of you.
00:35:28Okay.
00:35:29So what are we here to do?
00:35:30Donate books to the library.
00:35:32And what are we not here to do?
00:35:33Argue.
00:35:34Or?
00:35:34Use our outside voices.
00:35:36Or?
00:35:36Do anything that might embarrass us
00:35:38and by extension you.
00:35:39Very good.
00:35:40Are you guys ready?
00:35:41Mm-hmm.
00:35:42Here we go.
00:35:43Smiles.
00:35:44Smiles.
00:35:47Yeah.
00:35:47car repair.
00:35:56Car repair.
00:35:57What's wrong with car repair?
00:35:58Well, not exactly literature.
00:36:01You're such a snob.
00:36:02I'm not a snob.
00:36:03You think that just because you read everything
00:36:05you're so much smarter
00:36:05and better than everyone?
00:36:06You think that just because I read anything
00:36:08that I'm a snob.
00:36:09This is your vice.
00:36:10Well, your vice is that you think
00:36:11that people who play hockey
00:36:12are out of control crazy.
00:36:12Nope, I don't think that about everyone
00:36:14who plays hockey.
00:36:15You're the one who keeps getting
00:36:16kicked out of games.
00:36:20Why do you get into so many fights anyway?
00:36:22I don't go out and randomly
00:36:24start arguing with people.
00:36:25What?
00:36:26So he started it?
00:36:27That's your defense?
00:36:28Kind of.
00:36:29Yeah.
00:36:29The thing with the ref
00:36:31the last game
00:36:32someone on the other team
00:36:34boarded a guy on my team.
00:36:35Boarded?
00:36:36You?
00:36:37Pushed him into a wall
00:36:38excessively.
00:36:39The ref didn't see it.
00:36:41So I went to tell him
00:36:41and things kind of escalated
00:36:43from there.
00:36:44So you were
00:36:45defending your teammate?
00:36:48Yeah, you can do
00:36:49what you want to me.
00:36:50I don't care.
00:36:50I can take it.
00:36:52But you don't mess with
00:36:52my teammates or people
00:36:53I care about.
00:36:57Rather nice.
00:36:57I have my moments.
00:37:02And you might be right.
00:37:04About what?
00:37:05I can be a bit
00:37:07defensive
00:37:08around really smart people.
00:37:12I'm not that smart.
00:37:13Oh, I wasn't talking about you.
00:37:18Hi, Adam.
00:37:19Hi, Miss Campbell.
00:37:20How was?
00:37:21So nice to see you here.
00:37:23Mom brings me every week.
00:37:24That's wonderful.
00:37:25By the way
00:37:26she thinks it's you guys'
00:37:27fault that we lost
00:37:28the tournament.
00:37:28She probably has a point.
00:37:32Just remember, Noah,
00:37:33winning
00:37:33is not everything.
00:37:36Adam said when
00:37:36he's the best.
00:37:37No, I don't know
00:37:38if I use those exact words.
00:37:40You said only losers.
00:37:41Okay, Noah,
00:37:42it's so good to see you.
00:37:43Tell your mom
00:37:44I'll pay for therapy.
00:37:48Kids love me.
00:37:49Hmm.
00:37:49Parents.
00:37:50You've got to make them
00:37:54retract this.
00:37:56Why?
00:37:57Because we are not
00:37:58and I don't.
00:38:00It doesn't say that you are.
00:38:01It asks a question
00:38:02which allows them
00:38:03to get away with
00:38:03just about anything.
00:38:04Yes, but I do know
00:38:05more people thinking
00:38:06this about us.
00:38:07It's about me.
00:38:08The important thing
00:38:09is that they are
00:38:10thinking of you.
00:38:11She's right.
00:38:12I mean,
00:38:13look at all these customers.
00:38:14We've had more people
00:38:14in the store today
00:38:15than we've had
00:38:15in the past month
00:38:16combined.
00:38:17Yes, but most of them
00:38:18aren't buying anything.
00:38:20They just want to know
00:38:20if I'm dating Adam
00:38:22and, like,
00:38:23what's his favorite color,
00:38:24which is green.
00:38:25Why do I know this?
00:38:26Mary,
00:38:27you just have to believe
00:38:29in the plan.
00:38:30Plan.
00:38:30I'm looking for another
00:38:31good thing to put
00:38:32the two of you in,
00:38:33but in the meantime,
00:38:34we're working on
00:38:34the big anniversary party.
00:38:36That'll really be
00:38:37what turns things around.
00:38:38Right.
00:38:38Okay, I have to go.
00:38:40Call you later.
00:38:42Thanks, Janet.
00:38:42I'm very proud of you,
00:38:46you know?
00:38:46Me?
00:38:47Why?
00:38:49You're trying new things,
00:38:50opening up to new ideas.
00:38:52You're excited about
00:38:52the possibilities
00:38:53of what could...
00:38:54What do you want?
00:38:56I want to record
00:38:57tonight's book chat
00:38:58as a podcast.
00:38:59No.
00:38:59Mm-mm.
00:39:00You know I don't like
00:39:02talking in front
00:39:02of a lot of people.
00:39:03It's not like
00:39:03you're going to see them.
00:39:04And besides,
00:39:05I'll edit out the parts
00:39:06where you embarrass our family
00:39:08and bring about
00:39:08the ruination of the store.
00:39:12Hey.
00:39:19Got your message.
00:39:20What's up?
00:39:21Have you heard from Adam?
00:39:22He was doing that
00:39:22library thing today
00:39:23and I was expecting
00:39:24some sort of disaster.
00:39:25No, it went fine, actually.
00:39:27In fact,
00:39:29did you see this?
00:39:31Oh.
00:39:32Yeah.
00:39:34Okay.
00:39:35I can live with that.
00:39:36Oh.
00:39:37That's good.
00:39:38Doesn't bother you?
00:39:40Why would it bother me?
00:39:41because you and Adam were...
00:39:42I broke up with him.
00:39:44Okay.
00:39:49Bother me.
00:39:50That's ridiculous.
00:39:55Hi, everyone.
00:39:56Welcome to
00:39:56On the Same Page Book Chat.
00:39:58We're recording a podcast today,
00:39:59so if you want to say something,
00:40:00use a microphone.
00:40:01Okay?
00:40:02Okay.
00:40:03Mary.
00:40:04How about you?
00:40:05Okay.
00:40:06Okay.
00:40:06War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells.
00:40:21I'm sorry.
00:40:22I'm late.
00:40:25Oh, thank you.
00:40:26Mary.
00:40:29What you were saying?
00:40:30Yes.
00:40:32War of the Worlds
00:40:34by H.G. Wells,
00:40:37often associated
00:40:38with the 1938 radio drama
00:40:39of the same name
00:40:40by Horst and Wells.
00:40:41Oh, and also...
00:40:42And say your name.
00:40:48Adam Claiborne?
00:40:49Of the Denver Royals.
00:40:51And I was gonna mention
00:40:53the Tom Cruise movie.
00:40:55I love that movie.
00:40:56Right?
00:40:58Adam, what did you think of the book?
00:40:59I thought it was great.
00:41:01Good, good.
00:41:02But what did you think
00:41:04about the themes?
00:41:04What was H.G. Wells commenting on?
00:41:08Alien invasions are bad.
00:41:10Okay, that's a good point.
00:41:15But what about the issues
00:41:16of colonialism?
00:41:17I mean,
00:41:17the British Empire
00:41:19was making big moves
00:41:21at that time.
00:41:22Fine, but sometimes
00:41:22an alien is just an alien.
00:41:24And sometimes an alien
00:41:25is the King of England.
00:41:25Are you saying we shouldn't
00:41:26comment on the deeper themes
00:41:28in novels?
00:41:29No, I'm not saying that,
00:41:30but you also don't want
00:41:32to overthink things.
00:41:33This story is about
00:41:34two sides in a battle for Earth.
00:41:36It's like an intergalactic
00:41:37hockey game.
00:41:38But it's also about
00:41:39the battle for the survival
00:41:40of the human race.
00:41:41I mean, these aliens
00:41:42are using heat rays
00:41:43to decimate entire towns.
00:41:44Now, I've read a lot of books
00:41:45about hockey,
00:41:47and frankly,
00:41:47I don't see an equivalent.
00:41:48You've never taken
00:41:49a puck to the face.
00:41:50Well, fair enough,
00:41:52but I just think
00:41:53we should dig a little deeper.
00:41:54It doesn't get deeper
00:41:55than the basic urge
00:41:56to survive.
00:41:57Yes, so you're talking
00:41:58a basic human reaction
00:41:59to stress.
00:41:59Yeah, you're talking
00:42:00about firefly.
00:42:01Exactly.
00:42:10I still say you're missing
00:42:14the point I was trying
00:42:15to make.
00:42:15Adam, let it go.
00:42:17Okay.
00:42:17But next week
00:42:18when we do Dracula,
00:42:19I am not backing down.
00:42:20That was you backing down.
00:42:21Bear to have most of my
00:42:22disagreements with people
00:42:22and good point.
00:42:23I thought it was great.
00:42:24Mary, that's the most
00:42:25I've ever seen you
00:42:25talk in book chat.
00:42:26Well.
00:42:27Do it perfect together.
00:42:28Uh, Tyler, we're late
00:42:35for dinner.
00:42:36Oh, um, I was gonna
00:42:37ask you guys if you
00:42:38wanted to go grab something.
00:42:38Oh, weekly dinner
00:42:39at our parents' house.
00:42:41Welcome to come.
00:42:42Oh, I don't know.
00:42:43Yeah, really, it's just
00:42:44the four of us, family thing.
00:42:46They'll love it.
00:42:46I mean, Dad's a huge
00:42:47hockey fan and Mom
00:42:48always cooks too much.
00:42:49It's perfect.
00:42:50Come on.
00:42:58Seriously, these two
00:43:02were fantastic together.
00:43:03You guys are gonna
00:43:04love the podcast.
00:43:05Well, I think it's great
00:43:06you're trying new things
00:43:06in the store, honey.
00:43:07Don't you think so, Paul?
00:43:09I don't know.
00:43:09There's something to be said
00:43:10for tried and true.
00:43:12Maybe there's room for both.
00:43:15You know, I was thinking
00:43:16maybe we could add
00:43:18some sort of a
00:43:19refreshment station,
00:43:20somewhere where people
00:43:21could get water or coffee.
00:43:25That sounds wonderful.
00:43:27That sounds unbelievable.
00:43:28I am open to new ideas.
00:43:35I am!
00:43:38I'm sure.
00:43:42You're pretty quiet, Adam.
00:43:44I'm just enjoying this.
00:43:46It's like watching
00:43:47a really good play.
00:43:48So family dinners
00:43:49weren't like this
00:43:50when you were growing up?
00:43:51No.
00:43:52No, I grew up
00:43:52in the foster care system,
00:43:53so I was always
00:43:54bouncing from place to place.
00:43:56I didn't know that.
00:43:58that wasn't a big deal.
00:44:00There was this one family
00:44:01that was really into hockey,
00:44:02so ultimately
00:44:03it was a good thing.
00:44:04That's wonderful.
00:44:05Oh.
00:44:05You should be really proud
00:44:07of all that you've
00:44:07accomplished, Adam.
00:44:08You know what I'd be really proud about?
00:44:13Is finishing more
00:44:14of these potatoes.
00:44:15Go ahead, please.
00:44:17Thank you.
00:44:18So, how's things going with the team?
00:44:33I'm still on the team,
00:44:34so I'm taking that
00:44:35as a victory.
00:44:36Right.
00:44:39How's working with my sister?
00:44:40Great.
00:44:43It's peachy.
00:44:45It's okay, Adam.
00:44:47I love her,
00:44:47but it can be frustrating
00:44:48dealing with someone
00:44:49who can always find a book
00:44:50to prove she's right
00:44:51and you're wrong.
00:44:52Yes?
00:44:53What is up with the books?
00:44:54I don't know.
00:44:55I'd have to ask my dad.
00:44:56There's a picture of her
00:44:57in a crib
00:44:57holding a copy
00:44:58of Little Women.
00:45:00So she started early, huh?
00:45:02Yep.
00:45:03Smartest person I know.
00:45:05Except for when it comes
00:45:06to relationships.
00:45:07Meaning?
00:45:09None of them can hold up
00:45:10to the heroes in her books.
00:45:13You invited him home
00:45:14for dinner?
00:45:15Tyler invited him.
00:45:17But it ended up
00:45:18being kind of okay.
00:45:20That is high praise
00:45:21coming from you.
00:45:22You're starting to like him.
00:45:23I am not.
00:45:25Well, not in the way
00:45:26that the local paper
00:45:27is inferring anyone.
00:45:28I didn't mean it that way.
00:45:30You're spending
00:45:31a lot of time together.
00:45:33Making each other nuts.
00:45:34Some might call that passion.
00:45:35Some shouldn't call it that
00:45:36because they're wrong.
00:45:37I think you guys
00:45:38are good for each other.
00:45:39I'm not talking about it
00:45:40just from the PR perspective.
00:45:41Janet,
00:45:42this is all about
00:45:44the bookstore for me.
00:45:46All right?
00:45:46Now, look,
00:45:47sales are up,
00:45:47but they are nowhere near
00:45:49what they need to be.
00:45:50Patience.
00:45:51Trust in me.
00:45:52Trust in the process.
00:45:53Everything will be fine.
00:45:56All right.
00:45:57Okay?
00:45:58All right.
00:46:05Nice job, Noah.
00:46:15Up high.
00:46:16A little more practice.
00:46:17You'll be ready
00:46:18for the big leagues.
00:46:19I can't believe
00:46:20we get to practice here today.
00:46:21I told my mama
00:46:22I want to be a hockey player
00:46:22like you.
00:46:23Oh, yeah?
00:46:24What'd she say?
00:46:26Nothing.
00:46:26She's closed her eyes
00:46:27and put a hand on her face.
00:46:30Okay.
00:46:31What about your dad?
00:46:34He moved to California.
00:46:37Well,
00:46:38I think it's great
00:46:39that you want to be
00:46:39a hockey player.
00:46:40But maybe you should
00:46:41tell your mom
00:46:41you want to be more
00:46:42like Wayne Gretzky.
00:46:44Who's Wayne Gretzky?
00:46:47Why does everyone
00:46:48keep doing that?
00:46:51Who's Wayne Gretzky?
00:46:52Thanks for helping today.
00:46:58Of course.
00:46:59Except where was everyone?
00:47:01Photographers, Mary?
00:47:01This is off the books.
00:47:03It's a good group of kids.
00:47:04I like helping,
00:47:05so I've been doing
00:47:05some extra coaching
00:47:06here and there.
00:47:07That is very...
00:47:09Growing up with me?
00:47:10I had my moments.
00:47:12I would need you
00:47:12back on the team.
00:47:13I haven't been able
00:47:14to get it together
00:47:15since you left.
00:47:16You've won three
00:47:16of the last five games.
00:47:17We should have won all five.
00:47:19We had a big game
00:47:19on the road tomorrow
00:47:20and I wish you were
00:47:22going to be there with us.
00:47:22I still have to do
00:47:23my penance.
00:47:26Things with Mary
00:47:26getting any better?
00:47:28She's not so bad,
00:47:29I guess.
00:47:30Well, for you,
00:47:30that means you like her.
00:47:32It does not.
00:47:33Hey, from what you told me,
00:47:35she is exactly what you need.
00:47:37Somebody who stands up to you.
00:47:40I don't think
00:47:40that's what I need,
00:47:41but even if I did,
00:47:43she's made it pretty clear
00:47:44that she was not
00:47:44going to do with me
00:47:45or my world.
00:47:47Well, have you
00:47:47shown her your world?
00:47:48I don't know.
00:47:52Sarah, thank you so much
00:48:10for having us over
00:48:11to watch the game.
00:48:11Oh, hey,
00:48:13I love the company.
00:48:14I get so nervous
00:48:15watching these guys
00:48:15play on the road.
00:48:17What happened?
00:48:18The other team
00:48:19just scored.
00:48:20What do we say
00:48:20when the other team scores?
00:48:22Boo!
00:48:23That's right.
00:48:25They should make
00:48:26the puck bigger
00:48:27so you can see it
00:48:28better on TV.
00:48:28That is a great idea.
00:48:30I'll take your suggestions
00:48:31to the league.
00:48:33Okay, bud,
00:48:34come on,
00:48:34bath time.
00:48:35No!
00:48:35Yeah!
00:48:37You can watch
00:48:37the rest of the game
00:48:38later, okay?
00:48:38Otherwise,
00:48:39the claw
00:48:40will get you.
00:48:42Are you just
00:48:42going to get your children?
00:48:44Come on.
00:48:46You guys need anything?
00:48:47Oh, we're good.
00:48:47I'm good?
00:48:49Are you good?
00:48:50Yeah.
00:48:51I'm good.
00:48:52Okay, I'll be back
00:48:52in a bit.
00:49:02Thanks for coming today.
00:49:03I know hockey
00:49:03isn't your cup of tea.
00:49:04Well, Sarah and Graham
00:49:06are great,
00:49:07and this hockey business
00:49:09is growing on me.
00:49:10Careful.
00:49:11Soon you'll be
00:49:11a fanatic like me.
00:49:14You really miss it,
00:49:15don't you?
00:49:16Yeah, I really do.
00:49:18It's my whole life.
00:49:19Is that stupid?
00:49:21Well, if it's
00:49:22your whole life,
00:49:22then getting kicked
00:49:23off the team
00:49:24is probably not
00:49:25your best, Mom.
00:49:27Good point.
00:49:28I suppose I should
00:49:29learn something
00:49:30from all this.
00:49:31Like what?
00:49:32Can I get back
00:49:32to you on that?
00:49:34Well, what I've learned
00:49:37is that I am not clear
00:49:39on all the rules
00:49:39of this game.
00:49:43Sometimes the best
00:49:44way to learn
00:49:45is by doing.
00:49:45this is not what I had
00:50:00in mind.
00:50:00You were the one
00:50:01who said you were
00:50:01open to new ideas.
00:50:07Okay.
00:50:07There you go.
00:50:29Thank you.
00:50:30Right.
00:50:31We'll have to work
00:50:32in your stopping skills,
00:50:33but not bad.
00:50:34I just skated 10 feet.
00:50:35I think it's a little
00:50:36bit early for not bad.
00:50:38What if I fall down?
00:50:39A lot?
00:50:40You're wearing
00:50:41enough protective
00:50:42and you're at a cushion
00:50:42to fall from space.
00:50:44Besides, it doesn't matter
00:50:45how many times
00:50:45you fall down.
00:50:46It only matters
00:50:47how many times
00:50:47you get back up again.
00:50:48Sounds like something
00:50:49my dad would say.
00:50:50Yeah, because he's awesome.
00:50:53Now, let's work it out
00:50:54you're holding that stick.
00:50:55Yes.
00:50:56Let's put your right hand
00:50:57at the top of the stick
00:50:58like this.
00:50:59Yep, bring the stick
00:50:59out in front of you.
00:51:00Okay.
00:51:01There you go.
00:51:01Yep.
00:51:02And left hand halfway down.
00:51:03Perfect.
00:51:04Square yourself up
00:51:05to this puck.
00:51:07So the puck should be
00:51:08at 9 o'clock.
00:51:09Bring yourself forward.
00:51:11Yep.
00:51:12Further.
00:51:13Let them work.
00:51:14Nice and square.
00:51:15Now, bring your stick back.
00:51:17Not too far.
00:51:18And when you bring it forward,
00:51:19make sure you make contact
00:51:20with the ice first
00:51:21before you hit the puck.
00:51:22Before?
00:51:22Yeah.
00:51:22That way you get
00:51:23the full power of the shot.
00:51:25Try it.
00:51:26Right.
00:51:27Before?
00:51:28Before.
00:51:28Before.
00:51:28I hit it!
00:51:42I hit the puck!
00:51:44Woo!
00:51:45Nice job.
00:51:47Now you want to hit it
00:51:48towards the net.
00:51:49Could I just savor
00:51:50this small victory first?
00:51:52Yes, you may.
00:51:53Woo!
00:51:54Woo!
00:51:54Woo!
00:51:54Woo!
00:51:54Woo!
00:51:54Woo!
00:51:54Woo!
00:51:55Woo!
00:51:55Woo!
00:51:55Woo!
00:51:56Woo!
00:51:56Woo!
00:51:57Woo!
00:51:57Woo!
00:51:57Woo!
00:51:58Woo!
00:51:58Woo!
00:51:58Woo!
00:51:59Woo!
00:51:59You all right?
00:52:00No, I'm fine.
00:52:00Mm-hmm.
00:52:15All right.
00:52:20I had a fun idea
00:52:20for the anniversary.
00:52:22What about doing
00:52:23a live version of the podcast?
00:52:24Live?
00:52:26You mean in front of people?
00:52:28We do it in front of people now.
00:52:29Well, maybe 10 at the most.
00:52:31There's going to be way more
00:52:32than that at the party.
00:52:32You are going to be fine.
00:52:34Oh, and I saw this
00:52:35and I want you two to do it.
00:52:37Box race?
00:52:38Mm-hmm.
00:52:39I just don't see
00:52:39how decorating a box
00:52:40and sliding downhill
00:52:41is going to help us.
00:52:42It'll show you're
00:52:43an active member
00:52:44of the community.
00:52:44Sounds dangerous.
00:52:45Sounds like fun to me.
00:52:46Says the guy
00:52:47who runs around
00:52:48in sharp metal shoes
00:52:49slamming into people.
00:52:50Really?
00:52:51A lot.
00:52:52That's your view of hockey
00:52:53even after hitting the ass
00:52:54with me last night?
00:52:54What's this?
00:52:56It's probably the same thing.
00:52:57Oh, you were a natural.
00:52:59I'm sure there's some
00:52:59hidden sledding talents
00:53:01in there as well.
00:53:02They would be well hidden.
00:53:04You're impossible.
00:53:06You're a tactical.
00:53:12It shouldn't be this difficult
00:53:14to come up with a theme.
00:53:15Well, it has to be amazing.
00:53:16I want to win this thing.
00:53:17You are obsessed with winning.
00:53:19Oh, please.
00:53:19You're the most competitive person
00:53:21I've ever met.
00:53:23I am not competitive.
00:53:25At least it's not
00:53:26about winning, anyway.
00:53:27I think I just like to be
00:53:29the smartest person in the room.
00:53:30Are you calling me a snob again?
00:53:31No, most of the time
00:53:32you probably are
00:53:33the smartest person in the room.
00:53:34That's not being a snob.
00:53:34That's just being right.
00:53:37Yes, well,
00:53:38sometimes being right
00:53:39does come at the expense
00:53:41of being liked.
00:53:43Well, I'm very familiar
00:53:44with not being liked.
00:53:45Oh, please.
00:53:47You have fans,
00:53:48friends, relationships.
00:53:50Not ones that have lasted.
00:53:51Yes, but you don't really
00:53:52strike me as a settling down type.
00:53:54I don't know.
00:53:54If the right person
00:53:55were to come along.
00:53:56Ah, yes.
00:53:58The elusive right person.
00:54:00Hmm.
00:54:01You haven't found yours yet either, huh?
00:54:05Have you ever read a book
00:54:06that was so good
00:54:08that you just didn't
00:54:09ever want it to end?
00:54:11Guess I've just never really
00:54:13met a person
00:54:14who made me feel the same way.
00:54:17There's nothing wrong
00:54:18with waiting for the right book
00:54:18to come along.
00:54:19At least I don't think so.
00:54:21Yes, well,
00:54:25you get hit in the head a lot,
00:54:27so can we trust your opinion?
00:54:30So, Miss Competitive,
00:54:31what are we going to do
00:54:33to win this adventure?
00:54:35Adventure.
00:54:38Tom Sawyer.
00:54:40A raft.
00:54:41These sleds
00:54:52are incredible.
00:54:56And yours is fantastic.
00:54:58Right?
00:54:58Hold on.
00:55:00This hill looks pretty icy.
00:55:02Yeah.
00:55:02Mary, are you sure you're up for this?
00:55:03Not thinking about it.
00:55:05That's a cardboard box
00:55:06of snow-covered hill.
00:55:06Even if we fall off,
00:55:07I'm sure we'll survive it.
00:55:08Now, on that happy note,
00:55:10I'll see your photographer.
00:55:11Okay.
00:55:16You don't have to do this
00:55:17if you're scared.
00:55:18I'm not scared.
00:55:21A little bit scared.
00:55:23Think about something else.
00:55:24Tell me what your future holds.
00:55:25Right.
00:55:27I want the bookstore
00:55:28to be a success,
00:55:29obviously,
00:55:30and I want to travel.
00:55:33You know?
00:55:33I just want to go to Paris
00:55:35or Bali or...
00:55:38I miss being on the road.
00:55:40I don't do well
00:55:41if I'm in the same place
00:55:41for too long.
00:55:42Is that why you changed teams
00:55:43so many times?
00:55:45That and the owners
00:55:46of those teams
00:55:47wanted me to be somewhere else.
00:55:48Ah.
00:55:49You know, chicken, egg.
00:55:50Right.
00:55:51Yeah.
00:55:51But maybe you were
00:55:55just breaking up with them
00:55:56before they could
00:55:57break up with you.
00:56:00Hmm.
00:56:01Maybe.
00:56:04So what else
00:56:04is in your future?
00:56:05Marriage, children,
00:56:06white picket fence?
00:56:08I guess that's the idea, yeah.
00:56:10What about you?
00:56:12Sometimes I wonder
00:56:13what it would be like
00:56:14to have a son
00:56:15or a daughter
00:56:16that I could teach
00:56:17how to skate,
00:56:19make sure they have
00:56:19a good home,
00:56:20good family,
00:56:22be a good dad.
00:56:24You'd be a great dad.
00:56:27You think so?
00:56:28Yeah.
00:56:30I mean, you're a big kid.
00:56:32You'd have someone
00:56:33to play with.
00:56:34See?
00:56:36You were almost
00:56:37nice to me there.
00:56:38He's close.
00:56:39Hey, Adam.
00:56:41I'm getting good
00:56:41at that shawl
00:56:42you showed me at practice.
00:56:43That's great.
00:56:44I'm looking forward
00:56:44to seeing it.
00:56:45Practice?
00:56:46Oh, yeah.
00:56:46I've been helping out
00:56:47a little bit with the team.
00:56:48Oh, he's been helping
00:56:49a lot with the team.
00:56:50I think we might win
00:56:50the next game.
00:56:53Cool sled.
00:56:54Thanks, Noah.
00:56:55Which one's yours?
00:56:57Oh, I'm not doing it
00:56:59this year.
00:57:00Mom didn't have time
00:57:01to make one.
00:57:06You know, Noah,
00:57:07Mary, she's a little bit
00:57:10scared to ride down
00:57:11this hill.
00:57:12It's very icy.
00:57:13So, maybe you could
00:57:16ride with us.
00:57:16Help Mary be not so scared.
00:57:18Really?
00:57:19That'd be awesome.
00:57:23Did you bring your helmet?
00:57:32Everybody ready?
00:57:33Oh, yeah.
00:57:34Oh, look at them!
00:57:46Oh, look at them!
00:57:46Oh, look at them!
00:57:47Oh, look at them!
00:57:47Oh!
00:57:48Oh!
00:57:48Oh, wait!
00:57:51Oh!
00:57:52Come on, Mary!
00:57:56Shark is choking.
00:57:57They're doing great.
00:57:59Oh!
00:58:00Oh!
00:58:00Oh!
00:58:00Oh!
00:58:00Oh!
00:58:01They're going pretty fast.
00:58:03They're going very fast.
00:58:06Oh, wait for her!
00:58:07Oh!
00:58:07Uh-oh!
00:58:08Hey, look out!
00:58:09Wait a minute!
00:58:09Watch out!
00:58:10Oh!
00:58:10Oh!
00:58:10Oh!
00:58:11Oh!
00:58:12Oh!

01:00:01Look, I'm happy that this is going so well for Adam.
01:00:04I really am, but we have a long way to go with the bookstore.
01:00:08Business is up, isn't it?
01:00:11It is, but...
01:00:12Not by enough.
01:00:13Well, that's why we're making the 40th anniversary party this Saturday such a blowout.
01:00:19We're talking the live podcasts, games, food.
01:00:23We still could use a showcase idea, but I think it's going to be a huge success.
01:00:27Aren't we worried about it just being temporary?
01:00:29I mean, we could sell a ton of books that day, but how do we make it last?
01:00:32Sales aren't the only thing that we're going for.
01:00:34You want to build your customer base.
01:00:35Mailing list sign-ups, podcast downloads, social media hits.
01:00:39Hashtag OTSB40.
01:00:43On the same page, 40th.
01:00:46I bet that's great.
01:00:47It is.
01:00:48But...
01:00:48What?
01:00:54I was up late last night.
01:00:56I just couldn't sleep, so I was going over the numbers.
01:00:59And if this party doesn't work, if it isn't a huge success...
01:01:05We have to close this door.
01:01:09So how come you didn't tell me how bad these are at the store?
01:01:25You have your own problems.
01:01:26I don't...
01:01:27I don't know if you'd care.
01:01:28Of course I care.
01:01:30I mean, we're in this together, aren't we?
01:01:34It's embarrassing.
01:01:35Oh, come on.
01:01:36A few days ago, you were filling yourself down a hill.
01:01:39That person doesn't get embarrassed.
01:01:41Yeah, but that person is also elusive.
01:01:44You know, she's not always there when you need her.
01:01:47We're going to figure this out.
01:01:49Our number one mission is to make sure the anniversary party is a huge success.
01:01:52But what about getting you back on the team?
01:01:54That'll happen.
01:01:55I'm not worried.
01:01:56Erica's coming around.
01:01:57Yeah?
01:01:57You guys are getting along?
01:01:59Eh, sort of.
01:02:00Let's just say I don't feel the need to search our hands for weapons when we meet anymore.
01:02:04Check my hands?
01:02:07Constantly.
01:02:07I'm a little nervous about that statement.
01:02:09You should be.
01:02:10Don't think there's a safety.
01:02:13Why don't you and I go for dinner tonight?
01:02:15We can try to come up with that showcase idea and talk about the live podcast.
01:02:20You're not still nervous about doing that, are you?
01:02:22Get up in front of dozens of strangers.
01:02:25Just talk.
01:02:26No.
01:02:27Why would I be nervous?
01:02:28The only thing that makes it even a little bit okay is knowing that you and Tyler are
01:02:35going to be up there with me.
01:02:36Promise.
01:02:37We'll come up with something brilliant.
01:02:40So, dinner?
01:02:42Yeah.
01:02:43That would be...
01:02:44That would be great.
01:02:46All right.
01:02:46You're going out for dinner with her?
01:02:48I thought you said you didn't like her.
01:02:49I don't not like her.
01:02:51She just drives me crazy.
01:02:53Oh, here we go.
01:02:54What?
01:02:55That's even worse than saying she's not that bad, and I've heard you say those exact words
01:02:58before.
01:03:02So, what usually comes next is a completely unhealthy relationship with someone you definitely
01:03:06shouldn't be with, and then it ends in yelling and in tears.
01:03:09A lot.
01:03:10With tears.
01:03:12That's not true.
01:03:14Victoria, Danielle.
01:03:15Okay.
01:03:15Well, maybe I've changed.
01:03:16You're the one that keeps telling me to grow up.
01:03:18That doesn't happen overnight.
01:03:19Unless...
01:03:20Unless she is your soulmate and she's performed a miracle.
01:03:25Is that what happened?
01:03:27It's just a dinner.
01:03:29We're just going to talk about the anniversary party.
01:03:31It's totally innocent.
01:03:32I've heard those words before, too.
01:03:34Erica.
01:03:35No, Erica was different.
01:03:36Oh, Erica, right behind you.
01:03:41Adam.
01:03:42Can I see you in my office?
01:03:44Now?
01:03:46I've got a dinner meeting.
01:03:47Yes, it's important.
01:03:50Okay.
01:03:50Just let me make a quick call and change first.
01:03:57I'm sure it's fine.
01:04:11Hello?
01:04:12Mary, hi.
01:04:13It's Adam.
01:04:14Oh, hi.
01:04:14Are you on your way?
01:04:16Uh, no.
01:04:17I just got called into a meeting with Erica.
01:04:21Erica.
01:04:22Is everything okay?
01:04:23I don't know.
01:04:24But I'm not sure how long it's going to take, so I didn't want to leave you hanging.
01:04:27Oh.
01:04:28Uh, all right.
01:04:30Well, um, don't worry about it.
01:04:32We can just do it another night.
01:04:34We don't need to cancel.
01:04:35Just...
01:04:35Yeah.
01:04:36It's not a big deal.
01:04:37It's fine.
01:04:38Well, okay.
01:04:41I'm really sorry.
01:04:43We'll talk tomorrow?
01:04:45Of course.
01:04:46Bye.
01:04:47Bye.
01:05:01What's going on?
01:05:02I wanted to talk to you about getting you back on the team.
01:05:06Really?
01:05:07Really.
01:05:08Erica, that's amazing.
01:05:09It's fantastic.
01:05:10Thank you.
01:05:11Don't get too excited.
01:05:13There are a few conditions.
01:05:15Name them.
01:05:16It's probationary.
01:05:17One wrong step, and you have to serve out the rest of your suspension.
01:05:20Got it.
01:05:21Walk in the straight and narrow.
01:05:22It's a deal.
01:05:23And we are throwing a party for the VIP ticket holders.
01:05:26The press will be there.
01:05:28So will my father.
01:05:30You'll have to get up in front of all those people and apologize for your behavior.
01:05:35Easy.
01:05:36Sorry I'm a jerk.
01:05:37Done.
01:05:37Adam, you have to take this seriously.
01:05:41You need to eat a little crow, and then we'll get you back on the team.
01:05:47I can do that.
01:05:50We can take it serious, I promise.
01:05:52When is it?
01:05:53Saturday.
01:05:54Wait, this Saturday?
01:05:58Mm-hmm.
01:05:59I can't.
01:05:59That's the night of the bookstore's 40th anniversary.
01:06:02Well, you'll have to miss it.
01:06:03I can't.
01:06:04I'm emceeing the auction.
01:06:05I'm signing autographs.
01:06:07I'm doing a live book chat with Mary.
01:06:08Adam, what's more important to you?
01:06:11This bookstore or your career?
01:06:12I'll see you Saturday.
01:06:18I'll see you Saturday.
01:06:19C'est parti.
01:06:49Mary, we're really excited about the party Saturday night.
01:06:54Yeah.
01:06:54It's going to be great for the big bookstore.
01:06:57I hope so, yeah.
01:07:04Okay.
01:07:06What is it?
01:07:09What do you mean?
01:07:11You haven't said more than ten words.
01:07:14Usually you've said more than ten words before you come in the door.
01:07:16You're right.
01:07:19I have had a lot on my mind, but everything is fine.
01:07:26Okay, Tyler.
01:07:27No.
01:07:27No.
01:07:28We don't need to drag me into this.
01:07:30Hey, it's a family dinner.
01:07:31You were dragged into it by being born.
01:07:33The truth is there is a lot riding on this anniversary party.
01:07:52If it doesn't work, we will have to close the store.
01:07:56Oh, Mary.
01:08:00This is not your fault.
01:08:02The store was struggling when we retired.
01:08:05We even thought about closing it to save you from having to deal with the responsibility.
01:08:10We knew it was going to happen at some point.
01:08:13But I didn't.
01:08:13On the same page is not just a responsibility.
01:08:19It's our family.
01:08:20No.
01:08:21No.
01:08:21This is our family.
01:08:23Right here.
01:08:25And we will be here even if the bookstore isn't, sweetheart.
01:08:33So you're not mad?
01:08:35How could we be mad at you?
01:08:37Well, we're not done trying, Nat.
01:08:44And the anniversary party can still work.
01:08:47Yeah, and Adam's helping out, right?
01:08:50I don't want to have to count on him.
01:09:07Hey, Adam, what are you doing here?
01:09:11I was looking for Mary.
01:09:13I tried to call her.
01:09:14Oh, yeah, no, she went down to City Hall to get the permit for tomorrow night's Winterfest
01:09:17party.
01:09:18Well, when you see her, will you let her know?
01:09:20I really need to talk to her, please.
01:09:22Sure.
01:09:23Thanks.
01:09:25Adam, you've come a long way, you know.
01:09:32How so?
01:09:34You've faced a lot of challenges in your life.
01:09:37You're a good man.
01:09:40And you've made such a positive impact on Mary.
01:09:43This bookstore, this is her entire world.
01:09:48Has been since she was a little kid.
01:09:51And sometimes she forgets there's a whole other world out there.
01:09:54But these last few weeks, she's been out having fun, taking chances.
01:10:00Yeah, but a lot of the stuff we did was because Janet told us to.
01:10:05And you had no say in the matter, huh?
01:10:07Come on.
01:10:09Adam, Mary wouldn't have done all those things if she didn't want to.
01:10:14And she certainly wouldn't have done it alone.
01:10:19You have made an impact, son.
01:10:21Whether you intended to or not.
01:10:23You're pretty good with the impact yourself.
01:10:29Yeah.
01:10:30And I do it without a helmet.
01:10:34Thanks, Paul.
01:10:35Okay.
01:10:35So, I watched the game on TV last night.
01:10:54I think it's possible that number 16 is not getting enough contact with the ice before he shoots.
01:11:01Now you're a hockey expert?
01:11:04I think I bring a fresh academic perspective, yes.
01:11:06Because that's what you want when you've got a bunch of huge guys coming at you as an academic perspective.
01:11:10Well, I think there's room for a lot more than hit with stick now.
01:11:13You're impossible.
01:11:14You're attractive.
01:11:15So, why did you ask me to meet you here?
01:11:26This place.
01:11:28It's my home.
01:11:31And I really missed it, but...
01:11:32But what out with it?
01:11:37The team is hosting a big VIP event, and they want me to attend as a condition for taking me back.
01:11:44It's great.
01:11:44What's the problem?
01:11:46It's tomorrow night.
01:11:59You have to do it.
01:12:00What about the anniversary party?
01:12:04It's your career.
01:12:05It's what you've been doing all this for.
01:12:09I'm all over the advertising for the party.
01:12:11I'm a big part of the event if I don't show.
01:12:13What?
01:12:13So now you're so important that it can't go on without you?
01:12:21I know what you're trying to do.
01:12:24You're trying to make me mad so I walk away from the party.
01:12:30You cannot pass up the opportunity to get back on the team.
01:12:37To get back on the road.
01:12:39That's where all this leads anyway.
01:12:53And yes, anniversary party might not work without you, but that's okay.
01:12:58I do think it's time for me to succeed or fail on my own.
01:13:08But you shouldn't have to.
01:13:09I got suspended because I wasn't a good team player.
01:13:17But you and I, we're a team now too, right?
01:13:20The best.
01:13:24But sometimes being a good team player means knowing when to let the other guy take the shot.
01:13:29I think you're right around.
01:13:36I think you're right around.
01:13:36You're right around.
01:13:42Okay.
01:13:57So
01:14:29Look at all these people
01:14:30We have sold more books tonight than we have in the past six months
01:14:33But even more important, you're building a customer base
01:14:36Right
01:14:36Between the must-read list and the photo shares and the podcast downloads
01:14:40Mary, here's a statement I never thought I'd say
01:14:43You're trending on social media
01:14:45What does that mean?
01:14:49Trust me, it's good
01:14:51Okay
01:14:51Hey, Miss Campbell
01:14:54Oh, hey, Noah
01:14:55Where's Anna?
01:14:59You know what?
01:15:01He's not going to be able to make it tonight, I'm sorry
01:15:03Oh
01:15:05But hey, how about I take a picture of the two that you sent to him?
01:15:09I bet he'd love it
01:15:10Is that okay?
01:15:12Okay
01:15:12All right
01:15:12All right
01:15:13And cheese
01:15:18Perfect
01:15:19Where do I put my old book?
01:15:23Oh, just out front
01:15:24And you'll get a coupon you can give to your mom for your 20% off, okay?
01:15:27Great
01:15:28Thanks
01:15:29Ouch
01:15:32I know
01:15:33I do love the book exchange idea, though
01:15:37I mean, give a book to the library
01:15:39Get a discount on a new one
01:15:41And that is a showcase idea
01:15:42Oh, that's not the showcase idea
01:15:45Adam took care of that
01:15:48He was going to tell himself tonight, but since he's not here
01:15:58It's so nice, but I don't get it
01:16:09Look on the other side
01:16:11Oh
01:16:16That's lovely
01:16:20So what, he had these made up for the anniversary party?
01:16:23No
01:16:23He had 20,000 made for the Royals' next home game
01:16:27On the same page is the official sponsor of the fan giveaway
01:16:31And he's made sure that the bookstore will be featured throughout the game
01:16:35And during its telecast
01:16:37That's incredibly generous
01:16:43Am I still smiling?
01:16:56I can't feel my face
01:16:57You're doing fine
01:16:58No sign of the item that argues with referees
01:17:00Well, I hope he's gone for good
01:17:01I hope so, too
01:17:04I'm getting positive feedback
01:17:07My father is pleased
01:17:09That's how your father looks when he's pleased?
01:17:14Yeah
01:17:14Made report card time very confusing as a kid
01:17:17Circulate
01:17:20Go circulate
01:17:21Thank you for being here
01:17:27Of course
01:17:28Part of being a team player
01:17:30Pretty impressive
01:17:56I'm gonna start the book chat shortly
01:17:59You ready?
01:18:00I'm nervous
01:18:01What do I always tell you?
01:18:03You're not nervous
01:18:04You care
01:18:05You're right
01:18:05Right
01:18:06I care a lot
01:18:07But, you know, there's also a part of me that
01:18:10Kind of can't wait to get out there
01:18:12And I can do this
01:18:14I think I'm gonna lead this one
01:18:16What?
01:18:17Who are you and what have you done with my sister?
01:18:20I'll tell you who she is
01:18:21She's somebody who should be very proud of what she's accomplished
01:18:25Dad
01:18:26Thanks, Dad
01:18:29Yeah
01:18:30You know
01:18:34I think on the same page, Jess might make it after all
01:18:38I'm not talking about the store
01:18:40I'd like to introduce one of our best players
01:18:48And certainly one of our most colorful
01:18:51But he's worked hard in the last month
01:18:54And I think you've seen the results of that in the press
01:18:57I personally have seen how he's changed for the better
01:19:01Ladies and gentlemen, Adam Claiborne
01:19:04Thank you, everyone, for coming out to support the 40th anniversary of On the Same Page
01:19:17I am thrilled to introduce one of the owners
01:19:22And the driving force behind why we're all here tonight
01:19:26Mary Campbell
01:19:28There are a bunch of things I'm sorry about
01:19:40My past behavior is one
01:19:43It affected the team
01:19:47And my overall image within the community
01:19:49I'm doing my best to fix that
01:19:52On the Same Page
01:19:53Has been here for 40 years
01:19:57I must say, I'm realizing that being part of a community
01:20:04Being part of a team
01:20:06It's about more than just being present
01:20:09I'm proud of this team
01:20:10And I'm proud to be a member of it
01:20:13I think I forgot for a while
01:20:17What real teamwork looked like
01:20:18I always say that the entire world
01:20:20Is right there in that bookstore
01:20:23And sometimes
01:20:24I think I do forget that the entire world is out there, too
01:20:28Erica said that she thinks I've changed for the better
01:20:32I hope that's true
01:20:34I think it is
01:20:36As much as I love this game
01:20:42I've realized now it's also really important
01:20:48So please excuse me
01:20:52But I have to go get it
01:20:55If you leave, I don't know if my father will forgive you
01:21:12If I don't leave, I won't be able to forgive myself
01:21:14You're risking your entire career
01:21:16Well, I hope that I'll be able to prove to some other team
01:21:20That I am that better person I've been trying to be
01:21:22That is if I can't convince you first
01:21:25Let's talk about this Monday
01:21:32You're gonna be late
01:21:34For the record
01:21:40You broke up with me
01:21:43Thank you
01:21:45I have been having the
01:21:50Close to home kind of adventures
01:21:53They haven't all gone well
01:21:55But as someone
01:21:58Very smart once told me
01:22:00Doesn't matter how many times you fall down
01:22:04Only matters how many times you get back up again
01:22:07It is in that spirit of adventure
01:22:11That I would like to kick off tonight's book chat
01:22:13How many of you have read
01:22:17The Adventures of Tom Sawyer?
01:22:20Oh good
01:22:20I am so glad
01:22:22Because this is one of my very favorite books
01:22:26You say that about everybody
01:22:28What are you doing here?
01:22:36You just came to chat about a book
01:22:38What about getting back on the team and
01:22:41Maybe it's time I start thinking about what's next
01:22:43Because apparently I come up with really incredible business ideas
01:22:48Really?
01:22:51I'm quite good at it
01:22:52In fact
01:22:53Most of this party here
01:22:55Was my idea
01:22:56Why don't we just talk about the book
01:22:59That's a great idea
01:23:01Because this is a story I don't want to end
01:23:05Me neither
01:23:09Me neither
01:23:56...
