00:00Paris Jackson has hit a major bump in the road in her legal dispute with her late father
00:04Michael Jackson's estate, as a new ruling from a Los Angeles judge delivered a significant
00:09setback, though Paris isn't backing down.
00:12On November 10th, Judge Mitchell L. Becloff struck most of Paris' complaint, citing California's
00:18anti-SLAPP statute.
00:20Now if you're not familiar, anti-SLAPP laws are designed to stop lawsuits that are filed
00:24mainly to silence someone's protected speech or petitioning activity.
00:29Essentially, they're meant to prevent people from using the courts to intimidate or punish
00:33others for speaking up.
00:35Because of that ruling, only a small portion of Paris' original complaint is still active.
00:39But according to a spokesperson who spoke with Page Six, Paris isn't discouraged.
00:44In fact, she plans to refile.
00:46Her spokesperson said, quote,
00:48This order is limited to minor procedural issues and does not change the facts.
00:53Paris will continue working to ensure her family is treated fairly.
00:57We will be submitting an updated filing shortly.
01:00Paris first filed her petition back in June.
01:02In it, she said she was concerned about certain payments being made by the estate.
01:06The filing accused executors John Branca and John McClain of issuing unapproved bonus payments
01:12to multiple law firms, more than $600,000 in 2018 alone.
01:18According to the court documents, these payments appeared to be, in Paris' words, lavish gratuities
01:23for attorneys who were already well compensated.
01:26But the executors pushed back in their own filings.
01:29In an October court document, they argue that Paris herself has benefited enormously from
01:34the estate, alleging she has received around $65 million in various benefits over the years.
01:40They claim she wouldn't have seen that level of support had they managed the estate in
01:44a more traditional, conservative way after Michael's death in 2009.
01:49It's important to note that Paris' team has not officially responded to that figure.
01:53The executors also highlighted what they say is their successful stewardship of Michael's
01:57legacy, transforming what they described as an estate weighed down by debt into a powerhouse
02:03valued at roughly $2 billion today.
02:06And layered on top of all this, the estate is still navigating other major legal challenges,
02:11including a combined $400 million claim from Wade Robson and James Safechuck, who have accused
02:17Michael Jackson of sexual abuse, allegations the estate has consistently denied.
02:23So for now, Paris Jackson is regrouping and preparing her next legal move.
02:27While most of her complaint has been struck, the fight clearly isn't over.
