The latest internet freedom report by US-based NGO Freedom House shows that Taiwan is the freest country in the Asia-Pacific region and seventh worldwide. Taiwan has sat at the top of the regional ranking every year since first being included in the report.

00:09Taiwan topped the regional list for the fifth year in a row since it was included in the annual report.

00:18The report said that Taiwan faces challenges in protecting internet freedom
00:22while blocking online Chinese influence operations.
00:25China ranks second to last in the world for its internet censorship and surveillance.
00:30The report said that global internet freedom has declined over the past 15 years.
00:34It cited the use of internet controls by authoritarian regimes
00:38and the spread of manipulated or misleading information created with AI.
