00:00An ammonia leak from a tanker truck prompted evacuations in Weatherford in the United States
00:06late Wednesday night.
00:07Some 36 people were hospitalized, with 11 in critical condition, and about 500 others
00:13were evacuated to the Pioneer Event Center at Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
00:19Authorities said the incident began around 10 p.m. when ammonia leaked from the tanker
00:24truck parked behind Holiday Inn Express on East Main Street.
00:27They said the gas came from a leaking gasket on the tanker truck carrying 25,000 pounds
00:33of ammonia.
00:34They issued an evacuation order covering approximately one square mile, including residential areas,
00:40three hotels, two assisted living centers, and several businesses.
00:46A shelter-in-place order was lifted on Thursday morning, as authorities allowed residents and
00:51businesses to return.
00:52Police said about 14 officers were exposed to anhydrous ammonia, with five suffering chemical
00:58burns to their airways.
01:00Several victims remain in intensive care, and no fatalities have been reported.
