Ukraine anti-corruption investigation: Kyiv to audit all state-owned companies

Kyiv has launched an audit of all state-owned companies amid the anti-corruption investigation around the energy company Energoatom. "Eradicating corruption is a matter of honour and dignity”, the prime minister said announcing the decision.

00:00Ukraine is launching a massive anti-corruption audit of all state-owned companies,
00:05Prime Minister Yulias Viridenko announced on Thursday.
00:10It comes after allegations surfaced surrounding one of the largest state energy companies,
00:14Energo Atom, who were reportedly involved in a graft scheme.
00:20The government started to react. We have already proposed the first decision.
00:24Yesterday, it was given a statement about the administration of the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Energy to the Ukrainian parliament.
00:28Along with the Ministry of Energy, we launched a complex measures for the launch of Energo Atom.
00:33We have proposed a complex decision regarding all state-owned companies, in the first place, for the energy-owned companies.
00:37Earlier on Thursday, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree imposing sanctions on two Ukrainian businessmen implicated in the probe.
00:47They are accused of masterminding a scheme which manipulates Energo Atom contracts to extract kickbacks worth 10-15%.
00:54Investigators say the two businessmen and their network of operatives allegedly laundered around $100 million.
01:01The Ukrainian premier says corruption probes will continue across all facets of government, with the aim of fully eradicating it.
01:30The European Commission noted that the investigation is proof that the country's anti-graft bodies work, and praised Kyiv for its efforts.
