00:53hi guys it's st. Nick here welcome to my crazy Christmas basement let's take it to

00:58your I'm 26 and I still live here with my parents down here usually is at least

01:04half of the year is decorated everybody's bathroom needs ceramic trees we got them

01:08everywhere I was born on Christmas Day so the first night of my life I was

01:13literally put in a Santa hat and a Santa outfit right at the hospital so I go by

01:18st. Nick here is my crown jewel of trees it's a white bottle brush tree which is

01:23really really hard to find this came straight out of a drugstore so I'm

01:27thinking it's at least 50 years old over here is like another crown jewel this

01:33was only made for about two or three years and it actually starts snowing I

01:37could show you right here the snow gets sucked up from the bottom and then blows

01:42through the whole tree like it's snowing I'll probably never get rid of my stuff

01:47because I am so obsessed with collecting it makes me all bubbly I feel like a kid

01:51again so anytime I could feel that way in this crazy world I will and I'll never

01:56let anybody tell me otherwise usually every garland is covering every little

02:01edge see how there's a couple edges over on that window there they cover every

02:05single edge I hate seeing edges if I go in your house I will be judging your tree

02:09not you physically but you're three you got to see my bedroom come on in here is

02:18my really really special stuff anything that could break and I don't want

02:21anybody touching I keep behind these doors oh and speaking of cool things this

02:28is my idea of my dream house but in little miniature scale the wallpaper is

02:33actually real wrapping paper from the 1960s and why not you got to have the elf

02:38going to the bathroom isn't he precious I love him every night I sit in this bed

02:43and I get to have the view of this entire crazy Christmas extravaganza so you

02:49could just sit here and relax and look at all the really cool shiny stuff isn't it

02:54cool look this tree took me eight hours Wow and it keeps not moving wait watch wait wait

03:08she spins just very uh not consistently isn't it nice I used to just sit home and just strictly

03:16play with Santa Clauses but once I met him I finally actually found out what a social life is you

03:23just strictly play with Santa Claus I did I did I'm only like 50% done with this room to normal

03:29people this is done there's literally 20 snowman that go on that couch do they look like they're

03:35there look at how cute that is he's definitely obsessed he's in his own little world 24 7 then he

03:45definitely misses out on a lot of stuff but whatever he sets his mind on is what he's gonna

03:50do until he gets it done why are you looking at like that stop it's freaky freaking cool all right

04:03let's go look for the Santa I don't know exactly where it is but we're gonna find it anytime I'm

04:09free I will always want to be out in my workshop fixing refurbishing repainting just getting stuff

04:16ready for this holiday season especially if you have as many projects as I do it's pretty much

04:20a never-ending cycle I had a Santa that I already started to rehab a couple months ago so I have to

04:26find this Santa Claus and get it going Nicholas when are we gonna put this stuff away look at it

04:32isn't that so nice Nick is my youngest of seven as a kid he always was a collector and it's never gonna

04:40stop I just want to admire it still put them away please I know I'll get there I do construction which

04:48is also kind of a creative outlet you get to build nail create paint a lot of the times I'm painting

04:54I find very relaxing so exactly what does it look like and what is it in it's in a box and it's got

05:01a red suit I'll pick anything off the shelf that I feel is in that category okay okay you go that way

05:07you go that way look in a box that doesn't have blow molds like this see it's all stacked my barn is

05:15sort of an organized mess it's 40 by 80 and I specifically wanted the 16-foot ceiling so that

05:21I could put all of my giant things just straight in there this Pinocchio what the hell is this that

05:26ain't coming nowhere that used to hang on State Street in Chicago there's just so much stuff overflowing

05:31if somebody steps on something I got probably a hundred more of them what is that is that a banana

05:37okay oh it's batty bear what is this I created that thing in high school its hair is falling off

05:45it's terrifying oh no oh it it's definitely hoarding but cool stuff is it really hoarding if it's cool

05:51and people think it's cool that's the real question this is a bag of that stuff leave that that's all

05:58craft stuff it's a bag of bags okay can we get the bigger stuff out of the way please Nick's collection

06:04has cost him upwards of a hundred thousand or more it is concerning but he knows what's worth buying

06:14and everything that he purchased can be turned over and he can make three times four times off of

06:22every single thing oh my god this is actually mine what is oh if Nick had more barns he would fill

06:32them all he has so much stuff it's endless and he could never get enough stuff oh oh god don't drop

06:41anything on me please found him I think I am the real life elf here let me just you're good you're

06:49good you're fine every single thing I eat is covered in syrup it gives me energy and that's probably why I'm

06:54always smiling and jittery because I'm just 90% sugar oh I'm so happy I found it oh yeah that's long

07:01enough us too oh are you down here yeah oh Jesus what are you doing here well I came over to get that

07:15I think that's a great thing for your mom but where did all this stuff come from well you know over time as

07:21a collector it just kind of builds up I guess I'm hope this is my dad Chris and I love Christmas yeah she

07:29loves Christmas to an extreme I guess is the way to put it I am obsessed with making Christmas headbands I did

07:35make one for you oh thank you honey okay how does that feel great just great thank you why do you need

07:45two of those yeah I think one would be good you know well I have three that's nice my collection is

07:52pretty big it started with blow molds and now it's like the tchotchkes and it's huge my entire basement is

07:58Christmas I'm gonna take those two and let me grab the last one isn't there enough up there already well

08:04I'm gonna decorate for the living room too you've seen my house decorated for Christmas yeah my love

08:15of Christmas started as early as I can remember when I was a child okay so last year Kyle and I

08:19were talking about suspending Santa and the reindeer from the ceiling do you think you could help me do

08:23that no my dad back in the 90s you know in his heyday really decorated for Christmas he would go out

08:31and string all the trees outside and probably blow molds I bought blow molds just because I knew the

08:37kids would like them no actual intent of creating this passion will you grab this one for me yeah

08:43sure my dad started a Christmas dish set for my mom and as a kid we would buy my mom pieces of it and

08:49give that to her for Christmas so it really started my love for collecting open up your right there yeah

08:55there we go turn for me there we go in a previous profession I have dealt with hoarders and I can

09:02see the signs so we're good signs it was his job to go in people's houses for safety code so that he

09:09has seen his fair share but I'm not hoarding garbage I'm hoarding Christmas hope my god isn't it great this

09:22was on the basement yeah but doesn't look awesome and this is only room one of four how did you pay

09:28for all this well I do have a job I am a special education teacher grades two through four this

09:35year this is a very popular one with my students I will say they love it see it moves do you see a

09:45box anywhere dad that says flocked oh there you go snow flocking tree that probably has asbestos in

09:54it you know dad that any dark hole that I can crawl into to find something vintage and Christmas filled

09:59with asbestos sign me up asbestos that's what I said asbestos how do you pay for all this honey

10:08you know every time I look at your checking account there's not very much in it I got my first job at the

10:13mall when I was 15 and he's been on my account ever since I needed a cosigner you know when she

10:18gets paid you know I see what her check is then she transfers money into her savings account which

10:23I have no control over you can't see it and then I don't know what's in there you know now I think

10:29it's time that we cut bait I don't think it's time we're in a 15-year streak I say at least get to 20

10:35any money that I put into vintage Christmas dad I'm gonna get back out of it yeah I've sold a ton at

10:40my sale this past summer and your P&L on that is how much what's a P&L oh god any money I make from

10:49selling parts of my collection is gonna go right back into the collection I don't see why I would

10:53put that money into a back into my checking account when it's only gonna come back out oh dad by the

10:59way um later this week can I borrow your truck I have to go pick up a chair for Kyle it's not Christmas

11:03it's just a chair it's just a chair nothing extra because the last time I gave you my truck you came

11:10home with blow molds it was an emergency that's not an emergency hope trust me in your definition I

11:16would consider that an emergency I don't understand having so much but she's my daughter and I love her

11:24so we've always been very close like told daddy's girl but you're sure you're just picking up a chair

11:33my intention right now that I know about the sales to pick up a chair or nothing else and I need your

11:38big truck for this big chair okay honey sure and can you also put gas in it because I'm low on funds

11:43we're in the beginning of a slasher movie I'll take a little peek when you squint your eyes yeah you

11:52can see that this section is brighter wait so we're gonna have 200 people here and you want them to

11:57squint we see it we get it where's the chair I have to come home with a chair what are you doing I'm

12:11trying to put these bugs on the tree but I can't find a spot the tree's done no I know the tree's done but we

12:16have bugs and I thought I bought more of these and somebody touched something I think something broke

12:20because somebody moved something because there's no way I would put two ornaments like this next to each

12:24other okay well no one's been here you've been here I didn't I don't touch this tree we are months months

12:32months away from the Christmas party and this sometimes this relaxes me I know but are you redoing the

12:38whole thing no I'm just redoing this there's only about 20 percent left to do in the house I thought

12:43we were done you're gonna change 20 no but like we didn't do anything in the living room I have to

12:48add some things because there's a new concept a new vision that I'm having and I have to execute it well

12:53I mean I guess it's good it's July here's a spot we don't run out of time again you're stressing me

13:07Matt and I live in New York with my husband Dominic we have been together for just over 20 years married

13:15for 10 Matt discovered my Christmas fetish maybe we back up you can't say fetish I'm like legal but

13:26that's still legal Matt discovered my Christmas obsession when he came up to visit my family for

13:33the first time I saw all of the Christmas stuff on that trip and you were like wow this is cool

13:45it could use a little more magnolia because when you squint your eyes you could see that this section is

13:52brighter than that section so that's given the illusion that that section has lights out when

13:58it really doesn't it's just we didn't fill this one enough I started Christmas collecting since I

14:08was like seven it started because I think my mother wouldn't let me decorate anything so I think it was

14:14all this repressed energy and then finally at seven years old I got a ladder and decorated the outside of

14:19the house at that point my mother realized that I might have had a skill set that she didn't have

14:24to work so hard decorating anymore this is very bright why don't we just put less lights on the

14:29tree you can't have the elegant warm glow of a tree if you don't hide the lights when you squint your

14:36eyes you could see the dark spots of the tree it's pretty dim and very warm and then you get to this

14:44section and it's on fire I mean it might as well be at a hardware store we used to have New Year's Eve

14:51parties and I would not like it so much because it went from like all the warmth of Christmas into the

14:57New Year's explosion so we started to have a small Christmas party like 20 people and it just morphed into

15:04this bigger party and it takes many months to get the decorating done wait so we're gonna have 200

15:11people here and you want them to squint no they don't need to squint but when the lights come

15:15down they'll see that it's one big beautiful glow not all this brightness but if you only notice it

15:21when you squint that's the whole point just just the squint is a test to see where it needs more

15:27magnolia and less magnolia when decorating season is coming if Dominic says I'm just gonna change a

15:35couple things it'll be fine this season will be easy no never he always changes everything but it

15:42also is like therapy to me we have so much stuff yeah how many reads one two three four five five times

16:00five that's 25 probably 40 well if there's 40 why are you asking me how many well I'm just I'm

16:06trying to say so 40 reads and what are these do you know how many you have well how many windows do

16:13we have there's one for each window that's not a hard one you don't even know how much you have

16:16I do too the amount of things that are downstairs is a lot more than even I realize sometimes I think

16:26that's one of many boxes of sticks no this is the only box of sticks that are white if I have to go

16:31get a box for him or if I'm looking for something or honestly if I'm looking for him so if it's kind

16:36of ugly why don't we get rid of it would you get rid of an ugly child no he's like sometimes three rows

16:43behind of shelves and boxes and spaces and I forget just how much there is 12 boxes of vintage ornaments I

16:52own a antique shop and I love my collection I mean there's no doubt about it just like somebody would

16:58buy a fancy car I know they're materialistic things but they do bring me joy so how many of these cosmic

17:06stars do you have well two broke so whatever it is minus two okay but maybe that's the whole point you

17:12don't know the quantity minus two I'm just saying look at all this stuff how can you not find something

17:18something something if I come up with a new concept in my head chances are I don't have it

17:26here because it's new just what if you had at your fingertips the entirety of your collection

17:36wait is this for a last will and testament like why do we need an accurate account no because I think

17:40if you knew how much you had it doesn't matter I could have a billion dollars worth of Christmas stuff

17:45but that's not going to make me change my mind and not make me want the two things what if you

17:48could pick the person that can come in and do it Dominic has so much that I sometimes think

17:54he forgets what he has my hope with the assessor is that once he sees this accounting and this list

18:01he may realize oh perhaps I don't always need to be going out and getting more and more and more

18:07if you really want to have it assessed then I'm fine I mean so we're going to do it we can do

18:13oh I'm so excited to go to this pick it's at a really really old abandoned looking type building

18:24what are you hoping to get out of this place something mechanical something very old and moves

18:30I just got this text from Paul and I know him from picking paths there's a new place that I could pick

18:38from like across the street from his other place I ran right as soon as I could I don't do running

18:45come on let's go when I pick I'm after a certain decade of decorations pretty much from the 50s to

18:52the early 70s the most glitter the most shine the most fiberglass and other materials you probably

18:58shouldn't touch let's go the hell is this place wow look at this place I love it it smells like mold it

19:10looks like it had a roof link for a hundred years oh my god oh they made it hi guys hey how you doing

19:19thank you thank you this is the place yeah this is the place all right I know it's a little dirty

19:26but it smells like someone's basement in here sometimes when I pick it's just so much stuff

19:31to move around I need my extra family and friends just to have a helping hand did you bring any like

19:37costs or like anything I did not you guys didn't think to bring gloves you just told us and we're

19:44both wearing white why would you wear white if you're going to a Nick pick it's going to be a

19:49dirty place a Nick pick a Nick pick yes we definitely didn't come prepared but we'll do anything for

19:57a Nick guys look at these things a little tacky I think I like it I love extra tacky at least it's

20:03not doesn't look dirty it might be I'm actually it's turning my fingers black yes it's a little bit

20:08of an addiction but I think that's the way it's supposed to be yeah I mean he's Saint Nick like this is

20:13his whole entire life like he loves this and we're just here to support him and just you know

20:18be in it is this maybe something oh I like him yeah yes yes yes we're taking it home I don't care if

20:25you think it's stained and dirty hey Nick what about this wow look like little garlands that's cool

20:32I have in the past gone through some really really crazy dirty places oh more questionable

20:39question I don't know it looks like it got wet because the box damaged oh oh girl oh no okay

20:49that's pretty good here you want some no we're done we're done with that if I could get one cool

21:04shouldn't be going back here but oh I feel like we're in this wait wait wait I'm gonna go down

24:30holy cats wow I asked to borrow my dad's truck the other day to go pick up a chair for my boyfriend

24:47Kyle knowing that this chair was being held at an estate sale by my friends and also knowing that

24:53there was boxes of smelly vintage Christmas so I knew quite literally I wasn't going to be leaving with

24:59just a chair and I think my dad might never admit that but he knows that too he knew

25:04where did you hear about this one my friend Lori she does like clean outs and she was like hey you want

25:11to come through and just look so this is like literally before anyone's even been here well

25:15let's start digging in oh look at this you got one oh god right off the bat oh my god he's so cute

25:24it's gonna go to your house Holly is my aunt we see it we get it and she's the person I call when I

25:31can't tell my mom or dad that I want to buy something see her look at her little face oh the angel yeah

25:36let's add like you want this one yep there we go I don't know that I would call her an enabler I

25:41don't like that word so much I like supporter oh this is what we're talking about hope this is it

25:48oh yeah I haven't seen a poinsettia thing like this have you I do want the trees too the vintage

25:53pipe cleaner trees that's been on my list there's definitely asbestos in that um I think for the

25:59ornaments maybe I'll just ask how much for the lot if you don't take them you're gonna regret it so

26:04you're so right take them all that's what I say I'm so happy you're free today I'm her emotional

26:10shopping support aunt how's that right till you see this room oh yeah and I am her financier

26:17here's the Christmas oh my gosh look at she must have crocheted these all of the trees is that a

26:24cover is that a wine bottle cover oh that's got to go on top of something oh that's so cute this

26:30reminds me of like the stockings that grandma knit for all of us with our names on them hi ladies

26:34are you finding treasures yes we have found a lot um you've met my aunt holly right I have yes

26:39yeah absolutely so I had a question for you um there's like a bucket or two buckets of ornaments

26:45in that back room and then there's all of this Christmas we were wondering if we could do like

26:49a lot listing or a lot sale so I've known hope for about three years she's one of our best customers

26:54she's been a friend and she buys from us all the time she loves to give all old things a new home

27:00and give them a new purpose for everything on this table and the ornaments in the back yes and

27:05then everything on that table all the Christmas as well do you have a price in mind no well because

27:12you're a good customer how about 600 for everything 600 for all okay um yeah I think 600 will work for

27:22that for the ornaments and these two tables yeah but would you be interested in everything in the

27:26basement upstairs and this room for 1200 if it's Christmas related yes just the Christmas and most

27:33of it's vintage yes most of it's vintage would you be interested in that what do you think in hall

27:38do you need help I think I'm good I was supposed to be gone for an hour for a chair there is no room

27:50for that are you guys ready for this yes would you be interested in everything in the basement upstairs

28:09there's some great stuff in here a lot of vintage I'll help you go through it you wanna well let me ask

28:16you this first I don't get paid on the 12th okay so I have about half of the money for that would you

28:47it smells great it's such adrenaline for me okay so $1,200 what did I just do I was supposed to be

28:53going for an hour for a chair you haven't been here that long where's the chair I have to come home with

28:58a chair we'll find a chair $1,200 is definitely on the higher end of what I've spent again I think

29:04it's one of those emergency situations where it's you're wondering what was in that Christmas box that

29:09you missed out on and I would rather not live with that and just take the money that chair is not

29:16going with us it's there's no room for that oh let's take this one you said it was a rocker it's

29:24not a lie I did plan on getting the chair and then I saw much room the chair would take up and then I

29:30found a different chair so I wasn't a lie I don't like lying well I hope Kyle likes his chair I did come

29:36home with a chair I intended to come home with a chair it wasn't the chair I thought of but I came

29:41home with a chair all good intention well we should really get home and try and hide some of this we'll

29:46face the music but there'll be Christmas music yay I don't know if I'm ready for Christmas music after

29:52this Christmas cocktail all right Christmas cocktail

29:57the warehouse started because there was an antique collector and we would run sales once a month there

30:14and now it houses some of my larger decorations and a bunch of Christmas trees I don't know

30:21everything it's in a warehouse it's been years of stuff just sitting there oh

30:26with a crown and everything so whenever I go in and I do find something it does inspire me because

30:45I'm like oh this is great I remember buying this 40 years ago but now I'm getting to use it and bring

30:52it to life again and that's really a cool feeling there it is hello not now not now no hello hi

31:04where are you I'm over here in the back corner do you need help um no I think I'm good I'll be right

31:14out hold on he can't see this he can't see this wait hold on what are you doing I was just I was

31:23counting inventory why are you being weird I'm not being weird you're being weird can I get through here

32:09she can easily count the trees it's uh other stuff um did you buy something technically maybe

32:19I thought we agreed that we're gonna do an assessment we're gonna get an idea of what

32:24the inventory is no we didn't really agree I had said if we found something then I would go with a

32:29different concept but if we did not find something I'm pretty sure I said this we would use the

32:34original but we're not even done so I had this incredible vision and I knew I put the peacocks in a

32:43warehouse somewhere and I had to find them so that's why I went to the warehouse I just say this is the

32:48most bizarre thing it's not that bizarre it's wonderful look at how many bedazzled things

32:53we'll call this one mamarache and the other one liberache okay so uh definitely not following

33:01the rules like you don't even need to Christmas decorate with this it's done but so we're done

33:05yeah did you say done it's finished no more purchases no more purchase we're good we're good

33:10grab the bird let's get mamarache out of the warehouse mamarache and get the other rachi

33:15oh yeah dad oh it went really well yeah are you done with my truck yeah yeah yeah and did you get

33:24Kyle's chair I did get Kyle's chair yeah that yeah I don't know why you needed my truck to get this

33:37you're right dad I didn't need your truck for this chair but I did know I was going to the estate sale

33:42and I figured you know better to have it not need it than need it not have it and I got some extra

33:47Christmas things yeah I got a lot of extra Christmas things because your checking account says it's

33:52minus 600 bucks uh-huh and I talked to your mom and she said you didn't spend 600 bucks you spent

33:58twelve hundred dollars well she's right this is true and Holly did front me the other 600

34:03hope okay but look dad vintage Christmas is obviously a hot commodity right now and because

34:08we are in September we're getting closer to the season yeah but look at all this honey I

34:13it's you know it's an investment so you see the Santa will mold that I got yeah okay you know I paid

34:21like four bucks for him yeah let me just show you what he sells for $145 dad so while you have access

34:29to my checking account for emergencies like this you don't actually see the income part of this for

34:34me yeah I guess I don't see your income at all but I've actually sold this much in my account so far

34:40$15,000 wow were you expecting that no I guess I wasn't see it's fine it's all safe we're all good

34:48I hope if you're gonna make that kind of profit then we got to get organized we got to get a ledger

34:53receipt you know what you paid what you sold it for and list everything and inventory so that way

34:59we can have a definite profit and loss so a whole list of every single item that I buy and then I sell

35:05yes do people do that in real life yes they do hope you've done great but I think now is the time that

35:12we have to cut this checking account so you can manage your own money and you'll learn from it even
