Thousands march through Bucharest in protest against austerity measures

The rally was organised by the National Trade Union Bloc, made up of dozens of professional federations and comes as Romania’s government pursues measures to reduce the budget deficit.

00:00Thousands of union members protested again in front of the government building in Bucharest
00:06and then marched to the parliament.
00:09They are dissatisfied with the austerity measures and demand, among other things,
00:13an increase in the minimum wage as well as a reform regarding labour taxation.
00:23With flags, banners and drums, approximately 2,000 union members
00:27from the health, transport and communication sectors
00:30voiced their discontent, most of it related to wages.
00:42The protesters demonstrated in front of the government building for about two hours.
00:47They then marched to the parliament palace.
00:50Officially, representatives of the National Trade Union bloc
00:53sent to the government leaders a long list of demands,
00:56including labour tax reform and measures to combat tax evasion.
