00:00well yeah i mean like the fact that you know artists you know it just in general everyone

00:05has such busy schedules so to get anybody to take time you know out of their crazy schedule

00:11to you know jump on a song with me that you know it was an idea that kind of came about we're in

00:16the studio and we knew we wanted to do like a reimagined version of uh the song so i was like

00:22all right how do we celebrate it without just doing the same old thing so we got in the studio

00:26started on it and you know you have like all these different versions because we have to make it

00:31different it can't just be the same but we also don't want to go too far away from the original to

00:35where it's like okay you don't want to take away from why people you know liked the song in the first

00:40place but you have to like reimagine it like we wanted to do and we were just having a hard time

00:45like at one point like it was a edm song you know we were at 128 it was like no that's not right and

00:52then we slowed it way down and you try to do like almost like a folk slow version we're like it's

00:58not hitting the same um and at the time i just happened to get a text from my buddy nick from

01:04walk the moon and he it was about something else completely and i was like hey um do you happen to

01:10be uh are you are you here in la right now and he's like yeah i was like you want to come by the studio

01:15because we're working on you know this anniversary edition of on the way down and we're kind of stuck

01:20as to where to go and he's like sure and so nick from walk the moon you know who we played together

01:26back in the day you know we've done a bunch of shows together um kind of when they were getting

01:30started so it was almost full circle um and he came by and he had this idea for it and he started

01:37you know the top of the song and i was like dude okay that's it what if we keep that you know instead

01:44of you know him just helping with like the arrangement i was like let's keep that let's keep that vocal

01:48and then at that that sparked the idea of like what if i got a bunch of other friends you know

01:52and i started asking some some people that i've worked with in the past and people that i've

01:56toured with and some people who just we've never worked together so i was like this could be kind

02:00of cool and uh kind of put the word out there and everybody that is on the song are all people who

02:06just were like absolutely what are we doing i remember me and aj were golfing that morning

02:10and i'm like yo i'm doing a anniversary edition of on the way down he's like he's like sweet i was

02:15like you want to come by studio and just lay some stuff down he's like all right came that afternoon

02:19and and crushed it uh and then uh some other friends i hit who were you know drake was in

02:25mexico at the time and he he went to the studio and laid some vocals down and taylor was in oklahoma

02:32he laid some vocals down and sent them in and joey was in florida sent some in so and then uh got

02:37together with my buddy nash from macho ray and it just kind of it came into it it was it's its own like

02:43kind of new song it's the same song but it's you know if for people who didn't even hear the

02:49original um you know i'm sure that i was hoping that this could be a version that today you know

02:57lives up to like okay here's something that could potentially you know be on the radio today

03:02i mean not particularly but there are a lot of like you'll be out be out like at a restaurant

03:09you know randomly and like i'm very fortunate that for some reason specifically this song um on the

03:15way down for some reason gets played still in like the most rare places whether it be grocery stores

03:21uh home depot walgreens chilis applebee's whatever your your neighbor neighborhood gorilla bar is

03:30whatever that is for some reason it still keeps getting played there so i'll get you know a bunch of

03:34messages from friends all the time where they'll be at the airport and they'll be like you hear it

03:39all right i'm at the airport listening to your jam like that's pretty cool you know for me that

03:43you know 20 for a song that came out you know 20 years ago um still pops up in all these random

03:50spots i'm like that's pretty cool for me
