Hospital days cost time and cash. A year-long tram discount trims both for people coming to Birmingham's Children's Hospital.
00:11
The scheme began in Spring as a trial. It gave around 12-15% off standard app tickets for patients, families and hospital staff.
00:20
It's now being kept for the next 12 months following a strong take-up through the Metro app.
00:27
Here's how it works. Patients and relatives get a code via the hospital. Staff receive theirs internally.
00:35
You redeem it in the app on zonal tickets. No faff at the platform. No paper passes or forms to fill.
00:42
Access is simple. Ball Street and Corporation Street are a short walk from the Children's.
00:48
Trams run through the court from Edgbaston Village with frequent services when the line is clear.
00:54
For families arriving early or leaving late, it can mean the difference between a calm trip and a costly taxi.
01:01
Singles up by around 50p. Day tickets by up to 70 and season passes roughly 10%.
01:08
Subject to sign off later this week. So a local discount arrives as baseline fares nudge up.
01:14
Reliability still decides whether people use it. Metro flagged recent mornings with delayed starts after engineering overruns.
01:22
If it rolls on time, families win. If it stalls, the savings theoretical. That's the test the operator has to meet.
01:30
Big picture. Health access improves when transport is cheap and predictable. This scheme hits two of those three.
01:38
The last one, reliability, is the one passengers will notice first.
