00:00For more than 80 years, the Camp Hill line ran straight through South Birmingham without stopping.
00:06The tracks were there, but the people weren't served.
00:09That's about to change.
00:11Three new stations are rising along the route into the city centre,
00:14part of a push to fix a gap that's been left since wartime closures.
00:19When they open, trains will run from the southern suburbs directly into New Street in minutes,
00:24instead of half an hour by road.
00:27Moseley to New Street should take around eight minutes, Kingsheath 11, Pineapple Road 14.
00:33Each stop will handle six-car trains with lifts, footbridges and step-free access throughout.
00:39For commuters and students, that means predictable journeys, without the daily crawl up the I-435.
00:46The project costs around £60 million, a lot for free stations,
00:51but this is catch-up work after decades of neglect.
00:54Local leaders see it as an investment in jobs and growth, not a luxury.
00:59And for residents, it's proof that long-promised infrastructure can actually materialise.
01:04They're still testing, signalling and safety approval to finish.
01:08Officially, the target is early next year, though sources now suggest light 2025 or early 2026.
01:15Either way, it's no longer theoretical. The foundations are literally in place.
01:20Standing among the constant rush of New Street trains, this line's return feels symbolic.
01:26It's about more than stations. It's about reconnecting a city that lost its links for a generation.
01:32When the first passenger train stops again on the Camp Hill line, it won't just mark a new service,
01:38it'll close an 80-year gap in Birmingham's story.
