00:00Shortly after 7 a.m. this morning officers responded to the 300 block of

00:05Spartan Loop which is in the Spartan Trace subdivision in reference to a

00:09vehicle that struck a young child in a driveway. The preliminary investigation

00:15revealed the child was in the driveway of their home preparing to leave for

00:19school and waiting on the school bus. The child was positioned in front of his

00:26grandmother's 2016 GMC Yukon which was backed into the driveway. The

00:35grandmother who did not know that the child was outside proceeded to leave for

00:40work, drove forward out of the driveway at which time she fatally struck the child

00:47who was killed instantly.

00:51As part of any serious crash investigation our fatality team

01:00investigators checked for impairment of the driver. When our officers began

01:08checking the grandmother who has been identified as 55 year old Kristen Anders

01:14of Slidell she exhibited signs of impairment. The officer conducting the

01:22test happens to be a DRE which is a drug recognition expert who are highly trained

01:27investigators to detect any signs of impairment. It was determined that Miss

01:32Anders was under the influence of alcohol and central nervous system suppressants. To add to this tragedy

01:43Miss Anders was placed under arrest for vehicular homicide.
