The GX-100 a touchscreen control for Boss and creating or modifying patches is super easy. In fact, we’d go as far as to say that you’ll not need to reach for the manual too often.
To make things even easier for you, we’ve got an easy guide showing you how easy it is to navigate the interface, add effects and amp models, create new signal chains, save and store presets and customise the stomp buttons.
00:00Hi, Si here from User Radar. Today I'm going to show you how to create a patch
00:03in Boss's brand new GX100 guitar multi-effects processor.
00:30Okay, so first things first, we're going to start with a blank slate. So we've got a user
00:42patch here and there's nothing in there. So we hit the effects icon there, absolutely
00:48blank, apart from we've got the master utility at the end of the signal chain. So to dive
00:54on in, we just need to hit this effects palette right here. There we go. And then we can see
00:59all of the effects, utilities, amp models for guitar as well as bass right at the end.
01:06Go right there, we go to the bass stuff as well. There we go. And it's a case of just dragging
01:11and dropping into any space you want. So first of all, I like to start with a compressor.
01:17So I'm going to drag this compressor here. There we go. I'm going to change it to orange
01:24compressor. There we are. Okay. So next up, we're going to split the signal by using the
01:31divide and mix function here. Again, drag, and then what we're going to do, we'll see
01:36two separate lanes up here. Now we can add as many as we want in there and it'll just grow
01:41with as many of the effects that you want to put in. Okay. So you've got a select function
01:46here. You can see it's channel A or channel B, whichever one you want. There's also a
01:53dual mode, which will allow you to have both running at the same time. And you can, well,
01:58we'll show you in a little bit, how you can utilize the stop buttons here to engage the
02:03dual mode on or off. For now though, while we're trying things out, we're going to keep
02:07it to single and then we can listen to the channels and we can see what we want to create
02:13in the sound chain. Okay. So I'm going to have my channel A is the distorted channel
02:18and the channel B will be our clean channel. So we can start building up our signal chain
02:27here using an overdrive first and select that to warm. And then with the amp model under type,
02:34I'm going to select the X modded. There we go. Gaining levels and the output level is fine
02:41for me. The game switch defaults to middle. I can actually set that to low and use the manual
02:49buttons to switch between low and high, which we'll show you a bit later on when we, when
02:53we configure those. So set that to low for now. And then on the rest of the functions, we're
03:02good. Everything's fine there. And we've got, we can change the mic position and microphone
03:08type, um, you know, mic it up the cab, lots of things you can dive in, but so far on the
03:15X modded amp, we're all good. Um, onto the clean channel though. I'm going to first off have a
03:25poly octave on there. And to listen to that, we're going to select channel B. Okay. So
03:32there's no amp. This is just direct straight through and that octave is a bit too hot for me.
03:42So I'm going to drop down the range halfway thereabouts. And then the octave level itself,
03:49I'm going to drop that down even more, probably about 25 there. Okay. So that's a bit more sort of
03:57subtle, not too overbearing. Um, of course we need an amp. And so we drag in a nice clean amp
04:07here. I'm going to go for the JC 120 level wise and gain, maybe cook it a little bit more.
04:14That'll do. Um, gain is fine there. And then we're going to go over to sag really
04:25ramp up that. And on the speaker type, I'm going to go for, I'm going to go for eight by 12
04:33watts of speakers there. Real bright sort of chime to that. I'm going to change the mic position
04:46on here to 10 centimeters. And keep it short. I'm going to change it to the, there we go.
04:55Change to the condenser. It's a bit too hot actually. So what we're going to do is going
04:59to just drop down that gain switch down to low. So we've got parity between both channels,
05:08both on low, that's all good. Go back to our divider, hint of dual mode. So that feels a bit more sort of
05:20what I'm looking for. A nice sort of clean chimey tone with lots of attack with the compressor and
05:26then a kind of a lower underbelly of distortion. Okay. So onto effects. I'm going to go for the shimmer
05:34reverb first, crank up the density full whack there. The levels are all good. But what I do want to
05:41change is the, the pitch. We're going to drop pitch number two. It's just going to come down to
05:47just seven semitones.
05:52Okay. So onto another reverb, which we're going to have switchable as well. So the first one's quite
06:07subtle. The second one's going to be a bit more brash. So we're going to up, up the size of it with the
06:13time. We've got the levels. Going to be all right with the old, the EQ there with the high and low cut.
06:23Bit of movement on the moderate. Going to have that a bit slower and then just dial in about the same.
06:29So dropping the direct level down. So we're getting less of the, uh, the clean direct signal.
06:42And we're going to do a similar thing with our, um, our second pitch here. We're going to have that
06:47seven semitones. That's going to be fully cranked. We're going to drop the level down on the, let's go halfway.
06:55So that's good for a sort of a wash. If we bring in the distortion as well.
07:21So I have two very distinct different reverbs here. A subtle one that's going to be on mostly all the time.
07:34And then we'll have a separate one.
07:36We can layer in the background. Huge fan of space echo. Absolutely love anything analog and anything delay.
07:50Basically. And they don't come as ubiquitous as the space echo. Of course, everything's okay.
07:55In the, in the levels and on the modulation as is the sensitivity, but I want to change things up.
08:02We're going to have all the heads singing at the same time, cranking up the wow and flutter, drop the BPM to half of the system BPM.
08:10It should give us, if we take that shimmer off.
08:15There we go. So we've just got space echo on.
08:18And of course, once you've built your, your effects chain, you do want to save it. Otherwise, well, as soon as you start navigating away from that patch, it's gone.
08:36So make sure you do regular saves. You can just hit the right button and you can hit right and just hit execute while you're building the patch.
08:45And that's fine. Just doing that over. It's, it's all good.
08:48All right.
09:00All right.
09:08All right.
12:03will show you where you are so you don't get lost which is good so control one we want to use that
12:07as our divider and on mode so actually when i'm playing this we either want it on channel b which
12:17is just the clean channel or we're going to have it with both of them at the same time so that's
12:22the parameter mode if i wanted to have either or a channel selection i could go to channel select
12:29but and there's loads more modes you can select as well so we're going to keep on mode and then
12:35i'm going to scroll down to number two which is going to be our number one button there again arm
12:44and on this one i'm going to have that as our shimmer first shimmer because we've got two
12:51just on and off that's all we need um and then we're going to go down to number three which will be
12:57button number two on this again i'm going to just cycle through that's going to be shimmer reverb
13:03number two again just on and off now on and i mustn't forget i need to arm that we'll go down
13:14again turning it on
13:18number three is going to be the space echo again just on and off
13:22and then for our fourth button arm it i'm going to select the
13:31x mod amp and what we're going to do is we're going to select
13:42gain switch so we're in our manual mode and we can see
13:47all four there we go we can select on off all of our effects i'm going to kill those two and on this
13:56we can see if we go into the effects itself and we're on x mod selected there and you'll see when
14:02we hit the uh the fourth button there we'll get high gain or low gain you can dial in a middle one
14:11but it's quite nice to have that big jump so we want the low or high so when playing
14:20and then
14:33a bit more fizz when you need it okay so there we have it that's how to create a patch
14:38in the brand new gx100 multi-effects processor from boss
