00:00On the 11th hour of the 11th month, Medway joined the rest of the country in silence to pay respect to a historic occasion.
00:13That being Armistice Day, which marked the end of the First World War, a conflict that took countless lives.
00:23Ex-servicemen came together at Chatham's Naval Memorial to honour those who had fallen.
00:32There's even a service taking place at Chatham Town Football Club, so let's go and see what the community of Medway has done to remember Armistice Day.
00:44The service saw the appearance of Medway political figures and players of Chatham Town FC paying their respects.
00:55It is. It is actually personally quite powerful for me as well because my grandfather served in the British Armed Forces.
01:01Now, I never met him. He died before I was born.
01:05But that is part of my family's proud history that he served in the Armed Forces.
01:09And it's particularly poignant for me to be here today to witness this and pay my respects and witness this act of remembrance to all of those who served in the Armed Forces and who secured this society of liberty and freedom for us all to enjoy.
01:25Of course, yes. It's very, very important.
01:27It's important that they understand what people have been through, the whole reason behind Armistice Day, Remembrance Day.
01:35It's very, very important that we share it with them so that they can then pass it on to future generations.
01:40Because here at the club, for example, we do try and educate our young people in every single area, not just football, but in all walks of life in terms of key skills.
01:50We try and educate them as best we can.
01:51It's been an emotional day, yes. This is actually my third service of the day.
01:58So it's well worth the effort. You can probably tell by my voice, I'm not in the best of health at the moment, but I'm still determined to make the effort to get out and pay my respects because it's very important.
02:14Those present hope this timeless message is remembered in the hearts of those in Medway and that the years never condemn it.
02:26We will remember them.
