Typhoon Fung-wong brings floods, heavy rain as it nears Taiwan
Typhoon Fung-wong brought heavy rain and localized flooding to areas throughout Taiwan on Tuesday, November 11, ahead of its predicted landfall the next day. Taiwan issued a land warning and evacuated more than 3,000 people ahead of the arrival of Fung-wong which, while weakening, is expected to dump large amounts of rain on the island's mountainous east coast. Video from local media SET TV showed heavy rainfall hitting the island's western Yilan city, with water levels in some low-lying areas rising. Fung-wong is forecast to make landfall on Taiwan's southwestern coast around the major port city of Kaohsiung on Wednesday, November 12, after powering through the Philippines as a much stronger system and killing six people.
