00:40Ukrainian operatives allegedly tried to recruit a Russian pilot,

00:50The FSB said the plan was for the pilot

00:53to fly the MiG-31 over Romanian airspace,

00:57heading toward a NATO airbase in Konstanta,

01:00where it could have been intercepted or shot down by Western air defences.

01:06to independently land a MiG-31 aircraft.

01:09A phone conversation was arranged with a Ukrainian armed forces pilot,

01:12who, after verifying my affiliation with the flight crew,

01:15attempted to teach me how to land the aircraft online.

01:19Russian authorities described it as a large-scale provocation,

01:23orchestrated by Ukrainian and British intelligence agencies.

01:27In a video released by the FSB,

01:30a man identified as a Russian pilot

01:32appears to confirm that Ukraine's military intelligence

01:35had planned the hijacking.

01:37Sergey wanted to compromise me to later use it

01:39in the interests of Ukrainian special services.

01:42I was to receive money for allegedly sharing military intelligence.

01:46The money should have come to my personal banking card.

01:51The FSB said its counterintelligence operation successfully prevented

01:55what it called a major provocation,

01:57thwarting the recruitment of Russian air force personnel.

02:04allegedly showing contact between Ukrainian and British intelligence operatives

02:08and the Russian pilot.

02:10The communications, according to Russian outlets,

02:13included discussions about the payment of $3 million

02:16and the granting of citizenship in exchange for delivering the MiG to Europe.

02:21If the hijacking of the aircraft had been successful,

02:24I was offered a sum of $1 million.

02:26Later, upon handing over the jet with the Kinzhal missile,

02:30the amount was increased to $3 million.

02:32I was also offered citizenship in one of the Western countries.

02:39Neither Kyiv nor London has commented publicly on the Russian allegations.

02:43The MiG-31 is one of Russia's most advanced interceptor aircraft

02:48and is capable of carrying the Kinzhal hypersonic missile,

02:51a weapon Moscow says can fly at speeds over Mach 10

02:55and manoeuvre in flight to evade air defences.

02:58While Russia touts the Kinzhal as a revolutionary weapon,

03:01Western analysts have questioned some of those claims,

03:04noting that similar missile systems can also reach high speeds

03:08but remain interceptable under certain conditions.

03:13The incident adds to already strained relations

03:15between Russia and the United Kingdom,

03:18which Moscow has long accused of stoking the Ukraine war

03:21and aiding Kyiv in cross-border operations.

03:24Britain, in turn, describes Russia's invasion of Ukraine

03:28as an imperial-style land grab

03:30and accuses Russian intelligence

03:32of trying to sow chaos and disinformation across Europe.

03:36For now, the FSB says it has thwarted the plot,

03:39but with no independent verification,

03:42the claim remains part of an intensifying information war

03:45between Russia and the West.
