00:00The immense and immeasurable power of the elements to displace moving automobiles, landcraft, even ships was on full display the morning after Yolanda.
00:10Super Typhoon 1 also showed a sample of its might yesterday by easily breaking the chain of a ship's anchor that led to its captain's safety ditching his landing craft tanker to rest on a beach in Lemery.
00:23The full story from our Luisa Erispe.
00:25Residents in Barangay Wawa Ibaba woke up this morning to the sight of a large ship on a beach in Lemery.
00:34In a video contributed by a netizen, the ship was so huge it almost occupied the whole beach area.
00:40Coast Guard Batangas explained the ship purposely ran ground last night.
00:44It was supposed to dock in Calatagan, Batangas.
00:46However, the chain of its anchor was severed which caused it to drift toward the waters of Lemery.
00:52The captain then decided to guide the ship to the beach area.
00:55Siya po ay naka-take shelter doon sa area.
01:02Then unfortunately naputol yung ano, yung kanyang starboard anchor chain.
01:32The ship, Felicity 8, is a local landing craft tank or LCT.
01:37Due to the captain's presence of mind and fast response to the incident, there was neither damage nor casualties recorded.
01:45The PCG also said there is no oil spill threat within the area.
01:49Unfortunately, wala po siyang karga na anumang kargamento.
01:55So good thing na wala rin po masyadong incidente or mga accident po nangyari sa area na to during the time of a grounding incident.
02:12This is not an unusual event during a strong typhoon.
02:16As a matter of fact, another vessel had a similar or identical experience last night in Pangasinan, which was also caused by the super typhoon U-1.
02:25As to the grounding of vessel, meron tayong nai-report sa may Labrador or Pangasinan.
02:51At high tide tonight, boat ships in Lemery and Pangasinan will likely be pulled out from the beach area.
02:57But the PCG reminded the public that sailing is not allowed if there is still a wind signal, especially for motorbancas, to avoid incidents.
03:05Meanwhile, there are still passengers stranded in ports until today.
03:09Based on PCG's data, out of 103 affected ports, there are 4,807 passengers still stranded.
03:17Even before pumasok si Baguio U-1, we are in coordination with the Philippine Ports Authority, the shipping owners, and then the LGU.
