This is the shocking moment a wild jaguar caught its prey just centimetres away from a female tourist’s feet.

Donald Moradel was leading a tour in Tikal, Guatemala, on November 7 when a troop of coatis surrounded the group.

Stunning footage captured the moment a jaguar suddenly burst through the undergrowth with its eyes locked on its next meal.

Within seconds the big cat had pounced on an unfortunate coati and wrestled it to the ground right next to a woman filming the whole scene.

Donald said: “It was shocking. I know this is the first time in Tikal's history that a jaguar has been seen attacking so close to humans.

“I knew there was one nearby because I see them constantly, since they walk around in the darkness during the sunrise tour in Tikal.

“This was very nerve-wracking because it was so close to the group. It was only five metres from me when it caught the coati.”
