00:06Today, if you visit the Golden Mouth, you might ascend via the spiral staircase.

00:11But in the past, there was a straight staircase located on the southern side of the mountain.

00:16It is believed that this straight staircase existed from at least the reign of King Rama V.

00:22It was incredibly steep and people had fallen from it and died.

00:26Furthermore, the book New Rat Paromban Pot, published in 1924,

00:31described the straight staircase as deep and frightening

00:34and stated that several people had already tumbled down to their deaths.

00:39It is presumed that this dangerous straight staircase was finally demolished

00:44during the major restoration of Golden Mouth between 1950 and 1954.
