00:00:00I think I found the problem.
00:00:12There's a discrepancy in the date of the land grant.
00:00:15Discrepancy?
00:00:16Yes.
00:00:17Captain Nathaniel Mass received a land grant of 300 acres in November 1721.
00:00:25But Captain Mass was in England at the time.
00:00:28He didn't return to the colonies until 1723.
00:00:31Which means he couldn't have helped settle the region until two years after he was given the land.
00:00:36Given the land.
00:00:38Exactly.
00:00:39Because he wasn't even here.
00:00:41I don't know how to thank you, Taylor.
00:00:42This is the last piece of the puzzle.
00:00:45Now I can get back to my book.
00:00:47I have to call my publisher.
00:00:48Well, I'm happy to help, Dr. Sadler.
00:00:51Digging up history is what I'd love to do.
00:00:54Be sure to send me a copy when it gets finished.
00:00:57Excuse me.
00:00:58It's like you have a sixth sense.
00:01:02Well, there's still some stuff that you can't find on the internet.
00:01:05Did you have a second to talk?
00:01:06Did you get my message?
00:01:08Yeah, I can't believe it.
00:01:10Why would they cut our library's funding like that?
00:01:14The city depends on grants to help meet our budget.
00:01:16When those grants dry up, the city has no choice.
00:01:19And without that funding, you can't afford a research librarian on staff.
00:01:26I'm sorry, Taylor.
00:01:28I'm already looking for other funding.
00:01:30The second I can bring you back, we're going to miss you so much.
00:01:35Not as much as I'm going to miss you, Linda.
00:01:48Linda promised to try and find funding, but that could take months.
00:01:51And I've called everyone I know, but nobody's hiring.
00:01:53It's going to be okay, sis.
00:01:55Will it?
00:01:55That was my dream job, Craig.
00:01:57I know, and you were good at it, too, okay?
00:01:58But trust me, Taylor, you'll find another job before you know it.
00:02:02What do I do in the meantime?
00:02:04Hey, you know what?
00:02:05I got a good idea.
00:02:07Why don't you come down here and visit?
00:02:09Christine and I have plenty of room.
00:02:10You've never seen Forest Ridge, and it'll be a really nice change from the big city.
00:02:14I mean, that does sound nice, but I have to find another job.
00:02:19Well, you can keep looking while you're down here, and Zoe will be over the moon to spend
00:02:22some time with her aunt.
00:02:24Oh, I do miss her.
00:02:25So, what's stopping you?
00:02:30I'll think about it.
00:02:44Ray, sorry I'm late.
00:02:58I got up early to help my dad.
00:03:00Man, I still can't believe you grew up on a ranch in Montana.
00:03:03Oh, come on, man.
00:03:04My family in Forest Ridge go way back.
00:03:06My great-great-grandfather cleared the land for that ranch.
00:03:08Yeah, you told me.
00:03:09Him and Daniel Boone.
00:03:10Look, it's just so far away from you busting sergeant running your tech company in Silicon Valley.
00:03:14Oh, my phone.
00:03:16Come on, man.
00:03:17You gotta love this place, right?
00:03:19Every time I come here, it's like stepping back in time.
00:03:22Which is why it's costing you so much money to bring it into the 21st century.
00:03:26Have you taken a good look at that electric panel?
00:03:28Yeah, did you talk to Lyle Lindquist about doing the rewiring?
00:03:31Yeah, about that.
00:03:32Your buddy's been coming a bit too high.
00:03:34Okay, well, I'm not sure I'd call him my buddy, but...
00:03:36You said you two have known each other since grade school?
00:03:38Regardless, I hear he's a good electrician.
00:03:40And I'm your business manager.
00:03:41Okay, I really appreciate this passion project of yours, but it's my job to watch the bottom line.
00:03:48I know, Ray.
00:03:49It just makes a lot of sense to hire as many locals as possible, you know?
00:03:53None of it's going to put us over budget.
00:03:57Okay.
00:03:58All right.
00:03:58You're right.
00:03:59We'll get some more beers.
00:04:00Oh, one last thing before I leave.
00:04:04Apparently not everyone's too thrilled that we'll turn the Grab Hotel into a luxury tourist attraction.
00:04:08I was worried about this.
00:04:14This could be good for the whole town.
00:04:16Why would anyone want to stop it?
00:04:18You can find it when you ask them at the meeting.
00:04:20Wait, what?
00:04:22Hey, one of us needs to be there.
00:04:25And you're the local boy made good.
00:04:28Sounds good, doesn't it?
00:04:30I'll call you.
00:04:30Hey, Dad.
00:04:40Hey, there.
00:04:42I just got to make some lunch.
00:04:43You want to join me?
00:04:45Yeah, sure.
00:04:45Let me give you a hand with that.
00:04:49I'm heading into Helena for some meetings.
00:04:52I'll be back tomorrow.
00:04:53There's supposed to be a storm front moving in.
00:04:58A couple inches of snow.
00:05:01Dad, it's October.
00:05:02The leaves just started changing.
00:05:04It's not going to snow.
00:05:05That wouldn't be the first time we were in for a surprise.
00:05:08There's a frost warning.
00:05:10You better watch the roads.
00:05:11Could get icy out there.
00:05:12I'll be fine.
00:05:14All that time living in California.
00:05:17You could be out of practice driving in it.
00:05:19I'll be okay.
00:05:21All right?
00:05:21I promise.
00:05:22Hey, let me ask you something.
00:05:24Do you know anything about this town meeting tomorrow night?
00:05:29Yeah, what about the hotel?
00:05:31Yeah, why didn't you tell me?
00:05:33I figured you knew about it when you grew up here, Joel.
00:05:37You know when people got something on their mind, they're not shy about speaking up.
00:05:41Yeah, that I do.
00:05:43So, what is it exactly on their mind?
00:05:48They barely see you around here anymore.
00:05:50Then one day you show up, say you're going to turn one of the oldest establishments in town into some sort of fancy resort.
00:05:57It's not a resort.
00:06:01It's a...
00:06:02It's a destination.
00:06:05See?
00:06:06Right there.
00:06:07Destination.
00:06:08What does that even mean?
00:06:10Well, so what are you saying?
00:06:11I got a bit of a PR problem.
00:06:14I'm saying you got to talk straight to people if you want to get them on board.
00:06:18Look, why don't you take my truck?
00:06:23That little go-kart of yours isn't going to be much good if the weather turns.
00:06:28Okay, Dad.
00:06:29You know what?
00:06:29I'll tell you what.
00:06:30I'll leave you the keys.
00:06:31You can take that little golden ride for a spin.
00:06:34Oh, cool.
00:07:01It's okay.
00:07:03It's just a little ice.
00:07:09Please.
00:07:12Stop.
00:07:13Help.
00:07:13Oh, my God.
00:07:22Oh, no.
00:07:25Oh, man.
00:07:31This is great.
00:07:40This is great.
00:07:44Okay.
00:07:49Really?
00:07:50I'm not even having a hard enough day already.
00:08:04Oh, my God.
00:08:26Oh, my God.
00:08:29Oh, my God.
00:08:30Hello?
00:08:32Hello?
00:08:34Oh, hi.
00:08:36Thank goodness.
00:08:37You all right?
00:08:38Yeah.
00:08:39Yeah, I think so.
00:08:40I think I must have hit a patch of black ice,
00:08:42and I thought I was going to freeze out here.
00:08:44Yeah.
00:08:45Thank you for stopping.
00:08:47You lose something?
00:08:50There it is.
00:08:51Yes.
00:08:54I don't suppose you have any reception out here?
00:08:57Yeah, not out here.
00:08:58What I can do is I can offer you a ride.
00:09:00If you'd like.
00:09:02But you don't know me.
00:09:04So here's what I'm going to do.
00:09:08I'm going to wrap my license plate down, as you can see.
00:09:12My address.
00:09:16You can take this, put it on your dash,
00:09:19and, you know, if anyone comes looking for you,
00:09:21they'll know where to find you.
00:09:22That's very thoughtful of you.
00:09:25Easy.
00:09:26So, you know, before I do commit to this,
00:09:29which way are you headed?
00:09:30Uh, I'm actually heading to a small town called Forest Ridge.
00:09:34I know it well.
00:09:36Come on, get you out of court.
00:09:38It's been quite the day.
00:09:39I see that.
00:09:40Come on.
00:09:40I'm Taylor, by the way.
00:09:50Introductions.
00:09:52Forgot about that part.
00:09:53Joel.
00:09:55It's nice to meet you.
00:09:56Nice to meet you.
00:09:57So, uh, what brings you to Forest Ridge?
00:10:03Uh, my big brother lives here with his family.
00:10:06I've actually never been here before.
00:10:09Well, I might be slightly biased, being that I'm from here,
00:10:12but there's no place quite like it.
00:10:16And I know I've been around a lot, so...
00:10:18I think you're gonna enjoy it.
00:10:21Yeah.
00:10:21I hope so.
00:10:22Can I give you a hand with this?
00:10:44Oh, no, I'm fine.
00:10:45I got it.
00:10:45You've been already so helpful.
00:10:47All right.
00:10:48It was an absolute pleasure meeting you, Taylor.
00:10:52Uh, yeah.
00:10:52Yeah, you too.
00:10:53Thank you for, you know, rescuing me.
00:10:57Uh, yeah, no, it was fun.
00:10:58It was fun.
00:10:59We should do it again.
00:11:00Real soon.
00:11:01Yeah, so fun.
00:11:02Or not.
00:11:03Okay, thank you.
00:11:07Hope to see you around.
00:11:09Yeah, that'd be great.
00:11:11All right.
00:11:18Hey, there she is.
00:11:26Craig, hi.
00:11:28It's so nice to see you.
00:11:29Oh, so good to see you, too.
00:11:30We were a little worried about the weather.
00:11:32Glad you made it.
00:11:32Oh, yeah, more or less.
00:11:34Aunt Taylor!
00:11:36Oh, my gosh, Zoe.
00:11:38You've gotten so big.
00:11:41Hi, Christine.
00:11:42Thank you so much for letting me sit.
00:11:44Of course.
00:11:44Your house is so beautiful.
00:11:47I'm so glad we could get you to Force Ridge.
00:11:49Yeah, it's such a nice change of pace from going to Seattle all the time, right?
00:11:53Yep, I made it.
00:11:54Four years later, here I am.
00:11:56Let me take your jacket.
00:11:57We're just happy that you're here now.
00:11:59I made you a drawing.
00:12:00You did?
00:12:01Why don't you go get it, sweetie?
00:12:03She's been working on it all morning.
00:12:05She's so excited to show you.
00:12:08How was the drive?
00:12:09Uh, it was very exhilarating.
00:12:12My car is actually in a ditch right now, but a kind stranger gave me a lift and dropped
00:12:18me off.
00:12:18Why didn't you give me a call?
00:12:19I had no signal.
00:12:20Ah.
00:12:21Were you scared?
00:12:23I was cold, but I'm here now and I couldn't be happier.
00:12:27Here you go.
00:12:28This is for me?
00:12:29Yeah.
00:12:30Wait, is this me?

00:12:34She's so talented.
00:12:37You're welcome.
00:12:38Um, I'm going to need you to call a tow truck in the morning.
00:12:40Absolutely.
00:12:41Okay.
00:12:41Yeah, no problem.
00:12:42Well, dinner's almost ready.

00:13:28Wait.
00:13:30Where did I put it?
00:13:31Put what?
00:13:33Uh, my phone.
00:13:35I must have left it in the car.
00:13:37which I will get tomorrow because right now we have some reading to do I like this one
00:13:45that's a really good choice
00:13:48all right
00:13:53I thought you and Danny hit it off we did he's great except except I don't know living in Seattle
00:14:06I just keep meeting these tech bros they're all the same they have their own startup brilliant minds
00:14:11awkwardly cute they plan to take over the world and become millionaires by the time they're 30
00:14:15that doesn't sound so bad yeah except for the fact that the only books they read are on tiny little
00:14:22screens but maybe they're right right about what that as much as I love what I do libraries are
00:14:33obsolete not as long as you have anything to say about it right hey did I ever tell you that my
00:14:39little sister back in high school wouldn't date a guy unless he could name all three brawny sisters
00:14:45no that's not true no two out of three was okay oh yeah that's a lot better gotta run give me a kiss
00:14:53I'll call the tow truck when I get to work okay okay thank you and listen why don't you come by
00:14:58the graph later yeah for sure all right okay I love you love you too have a good day
00:15:03hey somewhere out there there's a guy who's gonna appreciate your love of bucks
00:15:09Zoe come on gotta scoot how we doing pretty good
00:15:17um the folks in 401 called down they got a leaky faucet oh okay I'll go check it out yeah and
00:15:24uh Joel Sheenan and that other fellow in the office sounds like they're going over some more
00:15:30bids perfect just in time to turn the graph into Montana's newest all-inclusive entertainment
00:15:35experience yeah I guess so um so you're coming to the meeting tonight right yes of course absolutely
00:15:42but if these guys get their hands on those permits
00:15:44we don't recognize this place what room is that um 401 401 thank you
00:15:53oh man am I glad to see you you must be
00:16:14Taylor hi everything checks out you might want to start it up let her warm up a bit okay yeah I'll
00:16:20do that how much do I owe you all taken care of wait really Craig did not have to do that
00:16:26actually it was a fellow by the name of Joel Sheenan settled the bill
00:16:29wait what you're good to go have a good day yeah you too
00:16:36you're looking for something
00:17:04right it was in your car you know I think there's an outside chance you might
00:17:12have dropped this in the truck I mean losing my phone twice in one day that's not a good thing
00:17:18oof well if it makes you feel any better I once misplaced a really really big cow it was a little awkward
00:17:28I did find her though I mean eventually so I mean these things happen that's good to know
00:17:35what happened to your truck oh yeah uh well I tend to switch things up from time to time
00:17:44and uh what do you think I don't know you seem like more of a truck guy to me
00:17:52do I I mean you did just tell me a story about a cow it's a true story I just don't know if it'll fit
00:18:00in the back of your auto oh it's roomier than it looks um listen I really appreciate you calling me a
00:18:06tow truck but I cannot let you pay for it no of course not absolutely not I wouldn't dream of it
00:18:12I mean come on we just met it's a little forward huh but what I will do is I'm gonna write my number
00:18:17right here I'm gonna give it to you what you do with it you know that's on your own accord but
00:18:22I'm hoping maybe just maybe you'll call me and maybe we go grab coffee and then you can pay me back
00:18:31what do you say
00:18:32what's the deal all right then hey until then until then
00:19:02if we could get that on our file then that'd be great absolutely we can do that hey look who
00:19:09hated Taylor I want you to meet Samantha Wilde hi sister Taylor so nice to meet you you too Sam
00:19:16runs the front desk and make sure that everybody stays nice and happy around here how do you like
00:19:20your little town so oh my gosh it is so beautiful yeah and I hear that you guys have something big
00:19:25coming up yes the autumn harvest ball next week that's when we really shine a ball that that sounds
00:19:31fancy it used to be it's way more casual now it's a lot of fun for the whole town
00:19:35excuse me hey so I called about your car this morning and they said it was already taken care
00:19:43of uh yeah looks like my kind stranger came through again is a kind stranger ever named I know that look
00:19:49no you are not setting me up I don't think so all right have it your way so what do you think of the
00:19:56place it really is so lovely it's like stepping back in time yeah it's over a hundred years old
00:20:02and all things considered should go for another hundred assuming we can stop it from getting
00:20:06completely gutted what do you mean there's some developers and they say they can bring more money
00:20:10into town if they bring in more businesses and tourists and stuff all we have to do is turn this
00:20:15into a fancy new resort I mean I like it the way it is which is exactly what I plan on telling the
00:20:21town council tonight at the meeting oh yeah I saw the flyer at your house yeah hey you should come
00:20:27along I mean I can use all I hope I can get okay yeah sure great let me show you around awesome
00:20:33brought an extra sandwich if you want
00:20:35one of my favorites
00:21:05oh mine too I'm Joyce Kelvin the librarian here oh Taylor Harris so nice to meet you
00:21:12Harris ah you must be Zoe's aunt how did you know Zoe always talks about her aunt Taylor being a
00:21:21librarian too she's been very excited about your visit oh well not as excited as I was to see her
00:21:27why don't I open up a card for you so you can check that out oh I mean that's so nice but I've
00:21:33read this probably a dozen times and I don't know how long I'm gonna be here so well you are here
00:21:39think of it like visiting an old friend I love that okay thanks
00:21:46the point is why say anything at all look just go to the meeting smile nice and let them get out
00:21:55their system thank you it's more important than that you know I just I want everyone to know we're
00:22:02on the same team team shmeep listen when those tourist dollars start rolling in everyone's gonna
00:22:07be a best friend thank you that's not gonna be for two months look in the meantime I'd like the whole
00:22:12town to be on board all right you want to make a speech right let everyone know how much you're looking
00:22:19forward to going to this harvest ball thing I mean that's all they want to talk about anyway thank
00:22:23you uh but it happens to be a pretty big deal around here okay better idea you find a date you go to
00:22:32the ball I mean who's gonna say mad at you when you're tripping the light fantastic right right I
00:22:38ain't tripping any light fantastic at the ball or otherwise anyways I got some stuff here you gotta
00:22:45uh where are you going I will see you back at the hotel I got something cool
00:22:51Taylor hey hi what are you doing here uh I had this uh business thing it's so uh how's the town
00:23:05treating you find your way around I am actually I just stopped by the library and got myself a card
00:23:10oh that's a good choice although I you know I've always been more of a Charlotte fan Charlotte
00:23:18Charlotte Bronte who said Emily you know Jane Eyre well we cannot forget their favorite sister and how
00:23:29could you ever forget Ann oh I love Ann you're full of a lot of surprises aren't you don't uh is that
00:23:38your business thing yeah I gotta go sorry uh I'll call you about that coffee I'm looking forward to it
00:23:47all right all right everyone settle down as you all know we're here to take public comments on the
00:24:07permit phase of the proposed renovations of the graph hotel Craig Harris has asked to get the ball rolling
00:24:14yeah thanks Phyllis um I just want to say that well I've been working at the graph for four years
00:24:27now I suppose that means I know it as well as anybody I didn't grow up here like a lot of you did
00:24:36when my wife Christine introduced me to her hometown safe to say that I was smitten with my wife
00:24:43since then I've fallen in love with Forest Ridge and everything about it especially the graph
00:24:49it's part of our history in this town and I think that that's something that should be
00:24:56preserved and cherished and I don't think it should be sacrificed for a quick profit
00:25:03thank you thank you Craig I'm gonna open the floor now who's next uh excuse me I'd like to say
00:25:15something good evening ladies and gentlemen my name is Joel Sheenan well I'm the reason that we're all here
00:25:42tonight you see my company we bought the graph hotel and with these permits we intend to make some
00:25:48pretty big changes my family has a deep deep roots here in Forest Ridge so I'm doing this because I love
00:25:57this town I've seen towns like ours grow and prosper by attracting visitors every year that's the goal you see
00:26:12but what they realized was that as important as their history is they can't let it hold them back
00:26:18they need to move into the 21st century they need to plan ahead for the future and so do we
00:26:26the plans that we have for the graph hotel they're gonna be good for this town that's why we need this council
00:26:34to endorse these permits it's for us so we can take that next step forward and prepare for the future
00:26:41because we don't want our history to hold us back
00:26:44again my name is Joel Sheenan and I thank you for your time
00:26:51I actually have a question sure isn't the graph hotel a hundred years old so that means it's eligible
00:27:02for a landmark status for landmark status the state of Montana says we have to prove that a significant
00:27:08historical event took place involving the building that's exactly right thank you Phyllis and according to
00:27:15our research there's no evidence of that with the graph hotel well who did this research well I hired
00:27:21some extremely reputable experts to look into it you mean your company hire people to look up the
00:27:26landmark status for a building that you want to develop you could put it that way yeah okay so
00:27:33you're saying that if we find a significant event happened at the graph and then the hotel would be
00:27:38preserved according to the state of Montana yes well I don't know maybe mr. Sheenan's idea of
00:27:44significant is really just in his own best interest okay okay okay look that's a little far Phyllis
00:27:50maybe we could take some time to explore this and before the council makes their final decision all
00:27:58right this is what we'll do we'll take a week to look this over then we'll reconvene and hear what
00:28:04what everyone has to say any objections good meeting adjourned
00:28:09you did it just got the ball started I'm still gonna find some proof yeah but looks like this is
00:28:26really in your wheelhouse what do you say you want to give us a hand on this yeah sure
00:28:31you made quite the impression last night everybody's talking about it I got to admit
00:28:45I was a little surprised the way you called out Joel Sheenan like that yeah well he threw me a curveball
00:28:49too do you remember that kind stranger I told you about wait that was Joel yes and I can't tell
00:28:56Craig obviously because he's not exactly his favorite person right now this is true he seems
00:29:01so nice too and so down to earth I I can't believe I fell for that story that he grew up in Forest Ridge
00:29:07that wasn't a story Joel and I went to school together but you did yeah we did really well too
00:29:14honor roll valedictorian he never really made a big deal out of it though so none of us really knew
00:29:19how well he did until he got a full ride to college okay I don't understand how did he get
00:29:25the money to buy the hotel after graduation we all thought he'd move back to the ranch work with his dad
00:29:30but he ended up getting recruited by some tech company in California another tech guy yeah so we
00:29:37stayed there until his stock was vested and that's how we got his startup off the ground he has his own
00:29:42company yeah helped develop a couple apps that got a lot of attention so he seems to be doing
00:29:49quite all right for himself okay so this is what I don't understand he doesn't live here why even buy
00:29:55the hotel I've been wondering that myself but I will say I'm not surprised he stopped to help you
00:30:01the other day what do you mean growing up Joel was always the first person to lend a helping hand to
00:30:06anybody who needed it so maybe the hotel is his way of giving back to the town no because why make
00:30:16all these changes that nobody wants maybe you should ask him the next time you see him I can't I promised
00:30:24Craig I would help him and I can't do that and hang out with Joel at the same time besides I need to focus
00:30:30I have to I have to find a job yeah no we don't want anything to distract you
00:30:37hey dad and in town should be home for dinner heard the meeting last night got mighty interesting
00:30:46oh yeah news travels fast in forest ridge social media got nothing on us
00:30:55what are you gonna do yeah not much I can do till we get those permits I'm not talking about
00:31:02permits son I'm talking about all those people that need to know you're acting in good faith
00:31:06I told him dad I did what I could I'm here to help
00:31:10the way they see it part of their town part of their history it's changing forever there's no record
00:31:22of anything historically significant happening at the graph hotel even besides me falling in love
00:31:28with your mother at our first harvest ball besides that of course see that's what it's all about Joel
00:31:35things people remember what they wore the song they danced to first the way the lights shine a certain
00:31:43way me I always remember the wallpaper wallpaper in the hallway on the way the ballroom I remember
00:31:56Addy and I were on our way in we were just a couple of kids all dressed up for a grown-up fancy ball
00:32:05I noticed the blue in the wallpaper match the color of her eyes
00:32:09I knew right then and there we're gonna be dancing with that ball for the rest of our lives
00:32:16you never told me this story
00:32:18I guess it's been on my mind lately but with the ball coming up and
00:32:23how your mother and I never miss one
00:32:25till now
00:32:28I know
00:32:29I'm sorry dad I miss her too
00:32:32you want to talk about historical significance
00:32:36you take a look at that wallpaper
00:32:41quick question
00:32:54did I come on too strongly about my preference for Charlotte instead of Emily
00:32:59I what
00:33:01no no no I mean I get it I get it I can really dig my heels in when it comes to the Bronte sisters
00:33:06you were very diplomatic
00:33:09okay then I'm stumped
00:33:13I am because up until that point I didn't think we disagreed about anything
00:33:19of course up until the meeting that is
00:33:24Joel look when you stopped to help me I thought you were just this nice small town guy who probably looks really cool riding a horse
00:33:32well be fair be fair you find the right horse it's hard to look bad
00:33:37what I didn't know is that you own your own tech company and you drive a flashy car and you can afford to buy and refurbish old hotels
00:33:45okay technically it's one hotel that's probably not the point
00:33:49no no the point is is
00:33:51you weren't what you said you were
00:33:54and you left out some pretty important details
00:33:56it's just
00:33:57the thing is
00:33:59it's like anytime I tell people what I do or about my foundation
00:34:02or
00:34:03or I talk about my collection of
00:34:04of first editions or art or anything
00:34:07wait you collect books
00:34:08see
00:34:09right there
00:34:11that's what I'm talking about
00:34:12you see
00:34:13people see me in a completely different light
00:34:17and then
00:34:17it's like there's this
00:34:19enormous
00:34:19elephant in the room
00:34:21and I have to work so hard to get around it
00:34:23page will wait stop
00:34:24there's something I haven't told you yet
00:34:28there are a lot of people in this town who love that old hotel
00:34:35you noticed
00:34:38one of those people happens to be my brother
00:34:41Craig cares
00:34:43your brother's Craig
00:34:50when I'm visiting
00:34:55that's why you came to town
00:34:57okay
00:34:58so now that I know who you are
00:35:01and you know who I am
00:35:03I think
00:35:03I think it's probably best
00:35:06if you just send me the tow truck girl
00:35:08and I'm guessing you
00:35:11wanna
00:35:12pass on a cup of coffee
00:35:14I'm sorry
00:35:17me too
00:35:19bye
00:35:22bye
00:35:25and we'll redesign the main floor to accommodate new shops and a restaurant
00:35:32you can look at the floor plans to see which spaces you prefer
00:35:36and oh
00:35:37I'll let Joel tell you about this part
00:35:39Joel?
00:35:45hmm?
00:35:46ah
00:35:47this way
00:35:48my favorite part
00:35:51is what they call
00:35:53the grand ballroom
00:35:55oh
00:35:57it's the decorating committee for the ball
00:36:00I told them it's okay to get started but
00:36:02if you need the room
00:36:03no please
00:36:04go ahead
00:36:06all right
00:36:06I'll tell you what
00:36:07in the meantime
00:36:08we can go back to my office
00:36:11and let them finish up
00:36:12and we'll take a look at the plans
00:36:14how's that sound?
00:36:18would you mind escorting them right?
00:36:19oh yeah
00:36:20sure
00:36:20right this way
00:36:21it's gonna look great

00:36:30you know

00:36:35it's just
00:36:36it's corn

00:36:39okay
00:36:39to my meeting
00:36:40I've worked with you

00:37:19listen buddy
00:37:21you gotta keep your head in the game
00:37:22words getting around
00:37:24what are you talking about?
00:37:26I'm talking about the fact that the locals aren't crazy about this project
00:37:29I'm getting a few calls from our potential store tenants
00:37:32they want to know if we're still moving forward
00:37:34of course we are
00:37:35then we better make sure that this doesn't steamroll on us
00:37:37maybe
00:37:38you know maybe that's not a bad idea about you finding a date with us
00:37:41Cindy
00:37:41hey
00:37:42lay on the charm
00:37:43do a little schmoozing
00:37:44Ray
00:37:45I am not taking a date to the ball to make people like me
00:37:49all I'm saying is we gotta do something
00:37:50hang on
00:37:51think about it
00:37:55you got a lot riding on this
00:37:56hey
00:37:58okay
00:37:59are you enjoying your visit with Catherine and Heathcliff?
00:38:08very much
00:38:08I was thinking
00:38:10my part time librarian
00:38:12recently moved to Denver
00:38:13and I've been looking for someone to help out around here
00:38:16if you're interested
00:38:17oh
00:38:18I mean that would be amazing
00:38:20I just
00:38:20I don't know how long I'm here for
00:38:23well
00:38:23while you are here

00:38:44again
00:38:46Jane Eyre
00:38:46it's impressive
00:38:48and I'm looking for something a little different
00:38:50and I figured who better to ask than
00:38:52a librarian
00:38:54well I don't officially work here yet
00:38:57well then we'll make it unofficial
00:39:00I'm looking for something a little bit
00:39:04less romantic
00:39:06and more down to earth
00:39:08you know
00:39:09with people who don't necessarily belong together
00:39:11but they are willing to take a chance
00:39:14even if the odds are stacked against them
00:39:16well it might not be a happy ending
00:39:19there's only one way to find out
00:39:21let me give you a tour of the hotel tonight
00:39:26why would you want to do that
00:39:28because Taylor
00:39:29I respect the fact that you're standing by your brother
00:39:31I do
00:39:32but I also think that
00:39:34if you get to know me better
00:39:35that you can decide for yourself
00:39:37the person that I really am
00:39:38so
00:39:43a tour
00:39:44just a tour
00:39:46not a date

00:39:59tonight
00:40:00tonight
00:40:01oh
00:40:02and uh
00:40:03Romeo and Juliet
00:40:06Romeo and Juliet
00:40:09see the idea is to
00:40:12remodel and refurbish the place
00:40:14and still keep the feel of the old hotel
00:40:15if you want it to feel old
00:40:17why don't you just
00:40:18keep it the way it is
00:40:19nah
00:40:19people still want the amenities
00:40:21they just want them wrapped in a more nostalgic package
00:40:24right
00:40:24I hear you on the nostalgia
00:40:26wow
00:40:28this looks like it's been here a long time
00:40:30my dad still remembers it from the first time he brought my mom to the ball
00:40:33they used to go
00:40:35they did
00:40:37every year
00:40:39she passed away last year
00:40:42I'm sorry
00:40:45thank you
00:40:46first time he came here
00:40:50he saw that wallpaper
00:40:52the way the color
00:40:55matched my mom's eyes
00:40:57he knew he spent the rest of his life with her
00:41:00it sounds so simple
00:41:04having two people
00:41:07just
00:41:07know
00:41:09I think it is
00:41:11or if it's the right two people
00:41:14come with me
00:41:18it's the best part
00:41:20oh
00:41:25what's that
00:41:28I thought you might get hungry
00:41:30is this a party re-tour?
00:41:36I can always have him take it back
00:41:37it's fine
00:41:38but
00:41:40it's still not a date
00:41:42didn't say it was
00:41:46you're Jackie my lady
00:41:50thank you
00:41:52after you
00:41:59Chivalry's not dead
00:42:02it's just been on vacation
00:42:04until you met me
00:42:06Craig and I grew up in Seattle
00:42:13he's actually the reason I got my first librarian job
00:42:16really?
00:42:18mm-hmm
00:42:18we were in high school
00:42:20and this one summer our local library was looking for a volunteer
00:42:25and I wanted the job more than anything
00:42:27so
00:42:28Craig took the bus all the way downtown so that he could go talk to the head librarian
00:42:34and he told them that no one loves books as much as I do
00:42:38and that he would never have even opened a book if it weren't for me
00:42:43he must have been really convincing because I got the job
00:42:48and
00:42:49he's been there for me ever since
00:42:52he sounds like a great brother
00:42:54yes
00:42:55and very determined
00:42:57once he makes his mind up about something
00:43:00this much I know
00:43:02Craig thinks you're doing this whole thing
00:43:07for the town
00:43:08as a business deal
00:43:09and what do you think?
00:43:15I believe you want to help the town
00:43:17and that your intentions are good
00:43:20but
00:43:21but
00:43:23why the craft?
00:43:25why
00:43:26all the extra time
00:43:28and money?
00:43:30isn't there something else you can do to help the town?
00:43:35growing up
00:43:36my dad and I
00:43:38we used to work the ranch
00:43:39all the time
00:43:40and sometimes
00:43:42we would
00:43:44camp out
00:43:45overnight
00:43:46just the two of us
00:43:47under the stars
00:43:48we'd talk all night
00:43:50it was so special
00:43:51I used to wish
00:43:54I had a magic wand
00:43:55and that I could wait
00:43:57and just make those moments
00:44:00last a little bit longer
00:44:03you know?
00:44:05sounds wonderful
00:44:06that's how I feel
00:44:07about this town
00:44:09and all the people
00:44:11that if I could just
00:44:13wave a magic wand
00:44:16and make force for each
00:44:18the way it was
00:44:18when I was growing up
00:44:20I
00:44:21turns out I'm not a wizard
00:44:24I don't have a wand
00:44:26things are always changing
00:44:30Joel
00:44:31you're right
00:44:32and all we can do
00:44:34is make sure
00:44:36and try
00:44:37to change them for the better
00:44:38that's all I want to do
00:44:40I want to help my hometown
00:44:42grow
00:44:43and keep
00:44:44all the things
00:44:45that make it so
00:44:47special
00:44:48like
00:44:50harvest ball
00:44:51what are you doing?
00:45:00may I?
00:45:00oh
00:45:01no
00:45:02no I'm not
00:45:04I'm not much of a dancer
00:45:05follow my lead
00:45:07I can't believe
00:45:13I'm doing this
00:45:14it's all in the hips
00:45:17baby
00:45:17what are you talking about?
00:45:26it's you
00:45:26you're a great dancer
00:45:28you're a great partner
00:45:30I'm not gonna argue
00:45:33with that
00:45:34it's true
00:45:35listen Taylor
00:45:41I was wondering
00:45:43um
00:45:46you
00:45:49um
00:45:50and me
00:45:51oh my gosh
00:45:54I
00:45:54why do I suddenly feel like
00:45:58I'm back in high school?
00:46:00well from what I hear
00:46:01you were actually really cool
00:46:03in high school
00:46:04yeah that's debatable
00:46:06I don't know
00:46:08okay
00:46:10would you like
00:46:13to go to the ball
00:46:14with me?

00:47:03hey
00:47:05listen Craig
00:47:08about tonight
00:47:09you don't have to explain
00:47:10I want to
00:47:11when my car broke down in the dish
00:47:16Joel was the guy that ended up stopping and helping me
00:47:18yeah I kind of put that together
00:47:21and he was so nice
00:47:22and we hit it off
00:47:23but I had no idea how you really felt about him until the meeting
00:47:26I know I probably should have told you about tonight
00:47:29but I thought maybe if I went and talked to him I could change his mind
00:47:32Taylor I'm not upset that you danced with Joel
00:47:37but the way you left
00:47:39I can take that place apart and put it back together again
00:47:42if Joel runs through this place with his plans
00:47:45they won't need me anymore
00:47:47you mean you won't have a job?
00:47:50I didn't say it but it just makes sense
00:47:52once that hotel is all new and shiny
00:47:55why keep me around?
00:47:58Craig I really don't think he's like that
00:48:00he's a businessman
00:48:01sooner or later they all do the math
00:48:03well you heard the council
00:48:04all we have to do is find
00:48:05a historically significant thing
00:48:08you really think that's possible?
00:48:11it's what I do
00:48:12besides I know how much it means to you
00:48:13and I
00:48:14I promise you I will not stop until I find something
00:48:17did he ask you the ball?
00:48:23I haven't given him my answer yet
00:48:25you should go
00:48:26it's a lot of fun
00:48:28you never know
00:48:30this might be the last
00:48:32you know I know why you're here
00:48:39and I completely understand
00:48:40but Craig is your brother
00:48:42you want to help him

00:48:59doing everything humanly possible
00:49:00to save the graph hotel
00:49:01okay
00:49:04I have to admit
00:49:07this is without a doubt
00:49:08the most unusual offer I've ever had
00:49:11so what do you say?
00:49:16is it a date?
00:49:18oh what do I say?
00:49:19uh
00:49:20as long as you understand
00:49:23I'm not gonna go easy
00:49:27just cause it's you
00:49:28I would expect no less
00:49:30well then
00:49:34it's a date
00:49:36a darn good one
00:49:39I look very much forward to it
00:49:42the best way
00:49:43of digging up the hotel's history
00:49:44was from some local sources
00:49:46perhaps a first person's account
00:49:48much better than
00:49:49searching the internet
00:49:50yes
00:49:51and
00:49:52considering you know
00:49:53the area so well
00:49:53I was
00:49:54hoping you could point me
00:49:55in the right direction
00:49:56I may have one idea
00:49:59great
00:49:59over the years
00:50:03the library's collected a
00:50:05kind of archive
00:50:07of the town's history
00:50:08newspapers
00:50:09photographs
00:50:10letters and diaries
00:50:12what are you doing with all of these?
00:50:15well the plan was to have it digitized
00:50:17and online
00:50:18but as you can see
00:50:19we haven't made much progress
00:50:20if you think it can help
00:50:23it looks like a great place to start
00:50:25oh wonderful
00:50:26okay
00:50:26alright
00:50:28wow
00:50:42see I thought I was the only one
00:50:45who came in early
00:50:45yeah well
00:50:47I had some time
00:50:48before the library opened
00:50:49so I figured
00:50:50I would help out
00:50:51with the decorations
00:50:51very nice
00:50:53do you want help?
00:50:55oh no no no no no

00:51:12and you are going to
00:51:14bend the floral wire
00:51:15into a J
00:51:16and then you're gonna
00:51:17place it right beneath there
00:51:18the letter J?
00:51:20yeah
00:51:21or like a little loop
00:51:23yeah I think I might
00:51:26single handedly
00:51:27ruin the entire ball
00:51:28okay no
00:51:31let's um
00:51:32glue

00:58:11Babe.
00:58:41I find anything interesting.
00:59:00Maybe.
00:59:03The letters are addressed to Catherine Donnelly, care of the hotel.
00:59:07This must be her.
00:59:08She emigrated from Dublin and made her way cross-country to Montana.
00:59:12She worked at the Graff?
00:59:14Sounds like she was in May soon after it opened.
00:59:17What happened to her?
00:59:18I don't know. She must have moved on. But she left these behind.
00:59:22Maybe we can...
00:59:24Actually, Joyce, do you have a magnifying glass?
00:59:27Um, yeah. Sure.
00:59:29Great.
00:59:32Here you go.
00:59:33Okay, so you see that woman on the right?
00:59:35I think that's Mary Catherine.
00:59:37But check this out.
00:59:39The guy in the middle? Right in front?
00:59:41Who does that look like?
00:59:47Whoa.
00:59:48Right?
00:59:54Is that...?
00:59:55Sure looks like him.
00:59:57Oh my gosh.
00:59:58President Theodore Roosevelt.
01:00:00Oh my gosh.
01:00:01What?
01:00:02What?
01:00:03Come on girl.
01:00:10Theodore Roosevelt was president from 1901 to 1909.
01:00:14During that time, he traveled all across the country while he was in office.
01:00:18I just can't find anything that says he's been in Forest Ridge.
01:00:22Well, maybe he was just passing through.
01:00:25But, suppose he was here on official business?
01:00:30I think that would be a piece of history worth saving.
01:00:33Along with the hotel where it happened.
01:00:35How do we find out?
01:00:38Well, now that we know the timeframe, we can just narrow down the dates.
01:00:42Okay.
01:00:43Back to square one.
01:00:44I think it's our best shot.
01:00:45Well, let's get started.
01:00:49Hey, Alan.
01:00:51Yeah, what's going on?
01:00:54All right.
01:00:55Yeah.
01:00:56No, keep me posted.
01:00:58Okay.
01:00:59All right.
01:01:00Thanks.
01:01:02So?
01:01:03We caught it in time, but we'll definitely act.
01:01:05Let me call him.
01:01:07I'll get on top of it.
01:01:08Hopefully it's nothing too serious.
01:01:09All right.
01:01:10I'll catch you inside.
01:01:11All right, cool.
01:01:28Hey there.
01:01:30Hi.
01:01:31Listen, I'm sorry I didn't call earlier.
01:01:34I just, well, I've been putting out fires everywhere today.
01:01:38It's okay.
01:01:39Things are hopping over here too.
01:01:41How's our hungry cat doing?
01:01:43Much better.
01:01:44Thank you for asking.
01:01:45You know, in fact, she wanted me to, well, invite you over so she could personally thank you for your help.
01:01:52She did, did she?
01:01:53Listen, listen, I know that this is, well, incredibly last second notice, but, um, what do you think if we reschedule the dinner for tonight?
01:02:04I promise you, no cattle wrangler this time.
01:02:08Sounds good.
01:02:09I'll see you tonight.
01:02:10I'll see you tonight.
01:02:15That was so amazing.
01:02:18Learn to cook on a campfire.
01:02:19It's an old Sheen and family tradition.
01:02:23A tradition that's been passed down to the next generation?
01:02:27It's hard to tell.
01:02:28It's not much on the great outdoors these days.
01:02:31Yeah, that ought to tell you something.
01:02:34So, Joel tells me that you're going to the Harvest Ball together.
01:02:39I'm really looking forward to it.
01:02:40I don't know if he told you, but that ball is another Sheen in family tradition.
01:02:45Never missed a one.
01:02:47Joel, too, when he was growing up.
01:02:49You should have seen the little tight suit and tie.
01:02:52Man, I think I got pictures around here somewhere.
01:02:56No.
01:02:57You know, she doesn't want to see any photos.
01:02:59No, I sure do.
01:03:00Maybe later.
01:03:01A little fella was so shy, he couldn't get up the courage to ask a girl to dance, so he would ask his mom.
01:03:09Oh, God.
01:03:10Which is how he learned to move around the floor so well.
01:03:12That's so sweet.
01:03:13Of course, he hasn't been back to the ball since, uh, when?
01:03:18Since you went off to college?
01:03:20Uh, yeah.
01:03:22Guess he just hasn't met anybody he wanted to take.
01:03:26Till now.
01:03:28It's very subtle.
01:03:29Yeah.
01:03:30It's very subtle.
01:03:33Which one's your mom?
01:03:37Right there in the middle.
01:03:39It's just beautiful.
01:03:40Never more beautiful than at the Harvest Ball.
01:03:46And that hard-working young fella is Timothy Patrick Sheenan, my great-grandfather.
01:03:51That's the only photo we even have of him.
01:03:53Yeah.
01:03:54Where was that taken?
01:03:56Right here.
01:03:57You know, he built that cabin back before Montana was even a state.
01:04:01Cleared the land for the ranch.
01:04:04Got married.
01:04:05Got a family.
01:04:07The Sheenan family has been here ever since.
01:04:15There's something about this photo.
01:04:18What do you mean?
01:04:20I don't know, but I can't put my finger on it.
01:04:25I don't understand why there's nothing online about him traveling to Forest Ridge.
01:04:28I mean, he was the president.
01:04:29Shouldn't there be some sort of record?
01:04:32Maybe they didn't know he was here.
01:04:35Right. Teddy Roosevelt just happened to slip under the radar and come to Forest Ridge, Montana.
01:04:39Well, if anybody can get to the bottom of this, you can.
01:04:40I knew there was something about this photo.
01:04:54What?
01:04:55There's two feet of snow on the ground.
01:04:59It must have been freezing.
01:05:00And no one's wearing a coat.
01:05:01Not even Roosevelt.
01:05:03Huh.
01:05:04Yeah, you're right.
01:05:05When I saw the snow, I assumed it was winter.
01:05:08But look at the trees.
01:05:10They're covered with leaves.
01:05:11Exactly.
01:05:12So it must have been taken in spring.
01:05:14That happens sometimes.
01:05:15We get a freak snowstorm that time of year.
01:05:17So maybe Roosevelt didn't know that and he wasn't expecting snow.
01:05:22But still, there must have been a reason he was in Montana at that time.
01:05:25So how did we find that out?
01:05:26So my girlfriend, Caitlin, she works at the National Archives in D.C.
01:05:29So I emailed her the photo and she said she was going to search the records
01:05:32to see all the traveling that the president did during that time.
01:05:35Can she find out before the town council meets?
01:05:37Fingers crossed.
01:05:38She said she would get back to me as soon as possible.
01:05:40But I think it's looking good.
01:05:42In the meantime, instead of just sitting around and waiting,
01:05:45I figured I would come help decorate.
01:05:47What can I do?
01:05:48Well, can you help bring in the rest of the centerpieces from the lobby?
01:05:51Of course.
01:05:56So every year the locals have this big harvest dance thing here at the hotel.
01:06:01It's actually a lot of fun.
01:06:02You want to talk about dedication.
01:06:04Joel here is so determined to win over his old hometown
01:06:07to make sure those permits get approved.
01:06:09He actually went out and found himself a date for the dance.
01:06:14So, hey, don't get me wrong.
01:06:16She seems very nice.
01:06:18But this might be just any old date on his arm.
01:06:21Her brother just so happens to be the leading opposition.
01:06:25So if I know my buddy Joel at all, those permits are in her bag.
01:06:28What a pleasant surprise.
01:06:29I literally just got done saying hello to our girl.
01:06:31I decided to drive all the way out here to tell you in person.
01:06:32What a pleasant surprise.
01:06:33I literally just got done saying hello to our girl.
01:06:38I decided to drive all the way out here to tell you in person that I'm not going to the ball with you.
01:06:39You can find someone else to win over your hometown.
01:06:40What are you talking about?
01:06:41I was there.
01:06:42You can find someone else to win over your hometown.
01:06:43What are you talking about?
01:06:44I was there.
01:06:45I was there.
01:06:46I heard everything.
01:06:47You know, all the things Ray said to the guy.
01:06:48You can find someone else to win over your hometown.
01:06:50What are you talking about?
01:06:51I was there.
01:06:52I heard everything.
01:06:53You know, all the things Ray said to the guys about your real reason for asking me.
01:06:54No, no, no.
01:06:55Taylor, you don't understand.
01:06:56You're right.
01:06:57I don't understand.
01:06:58You're right.
01:06:59I don't understand.
01:07:00I don't understand.
01:07:01I don't understand how the guy that I'm starting to care about isn't real.
01:07:03You can find someone else to win over your hometown.
01:07:08What are you talking about?
01:07:09I was there.
01:07:10I heard everything.
01:07:11You know, all the things Ray said to the guys about your real reason for asking me.
01:07:18No, no, no.
01:07:19Taylor, you don't understand.
01:07:21You're right.
01:07:22I don't understand.
01:07:23I don't understand how the guy that I'm starting to care about isn't real.
01:07:27You're not who I thought you were.
01:07:30You said you weren't sure that you'd ever find what you were looking for.
01:07:35Looks like you just found it.
01:07:38Taylor!
01:07:43Ray said those things?
01:07:54You didn't speak up?
01:07:55No, Dad.
01:07:56I didn't.
01:07:57I didn't say anything.
01:07:58I was in a business meeting.
01:08:00There was a time and a place and I wasn't it.
01:08:02Some things mean more than money.
01:08:04I thought you knew that, son.
01:08:08Oh, hey.
01:08:09Hey.
01:08:10Hey.
01:08:11Christine told me what happened with Joel today.
01:08:12I'm sorry.
01:08:13Yeah.
01:08:14You're right.
01:08:15You're right.
01:08:16It's just another business deal.
01:08:18I didn't want to be right this time.
01:08:19What?
01:08:20Joel drove you in there.
01:08:21It's just another business deal.
01:08:22It's just another business deal.
01:08:23I didn't want to be right this time.
01:08:24What?
01:08:25When Joel drove you into town, I knew how you felt about him.
01:08:26And there's a part of me that I didn't want to be right this time.
01:08:29It's just another business deal.
01:08:30It's just another business deal.
01:08:31It's just another business deal.
01:08:32Oh, hey.
01:08:33Oh, hey.
01:08:34Oh, hi.
01:08:35Hey.
01:08:36Hey.
01:08:37Hey.
01:08:38Christine told me what happened with Joel today.
01:08:39I'm sorry.
01:08:40Yeah.
01:08:41You were right.
01:08:42It's just another business deal.
01:08:43I didn't want to be right this time.
01:08:45What?
01:08:46When Joel drove you into town, I knew how you felt about him.
01:08:50And there's a part of me that hoped that whatever it is that you saw in him would be who he was.
01:09:00Yeah.
01:09:01Me too.
01:09:02But look.
01:09:03The council meeting's tonight.
01:09:05In one way or another, this is all going to get settled.
01:09:08And when it does, I want you to promise me something.
01:09:13Well, that depends what the promise is.
01:09:16Okay.
01:09:17I want you to promise me that you are going to come to the ball with Christine and I.
01:09:22Craig.
01:09:23Just come see what the fuss is about.
01:09:26Come to the ball and see how much this town means to all of us.
01:09:34Okay, fine.
01:09:35I'll go.
01:09:36Okay, fine.
01:09:37We'll have you.
01:09:40See you in a bit.
01:09:41See you in a bit.
01:09:47All right, Joel.
01:09:48You got this.
01:09:49Just give them that sunny smile and remind them how great this is going to be.
01:09:52All right?
01:09:53Oh, yeah.
01:09:54Oh, my gosh.
01:09:55It's my friend Caitlin at the archives.
01:09:56I have to get to the library.
01:09:57The meeting's about to start.
01:09:58Yeah, yeah.
01:09:59I know.
01:10:00Um, don't worry.
01:10:01I'll be right back.

01:10:03Take Taylor?
01:10:04I'll be right back.
01:10:05Don't worry.
01:10:06I'll be right back.
01:10:07Don't worry.
01:10:08Oh, my gosh.
01:10:09It's my friend Caitlin at the archives.
01:10:10I have to get to the library.
01:10:11The meeting's about to start.
01:10:12Yeah, yeah.
01:10:13I know.
01:10:14Um, don't worry.
01:10:15I'll be right back.
01:10:16What do you mean?
01:10:17Take Taylor?
01:10:18I'll be right back.
01:10:19Don't worry.
01:10:20I'll be right back.
01:10:21Don't worry.
01:10:22I'll be right back.
01:10:23Don't worry.
01:10:40Thank you, Caitlin.
01:10:42Thank you, Teddy Roosevelt.
01:11:12All right, folks, let's get started.
01:11:15As you all know, we're here to take public comments on whether the Graff Hotel should
01:11:20be or even can be designated an historic landmark.
01:11:40Craig?
01:11:41Craig, are you ready?
01:11:42Craig?
01:11:43Hi.
01:11:44Yes.
01:11:45Yeah.
01:11:46I'm ready.
01:11:47Please.
01:11:48Yes.
01:11:53So...
01:11:54Is everything all right there?
01:11:57Yeah.
01:11:58I just...
01:11:59Just have to...
01:12:01It's a little...
01:12:03I got it.
01:12:04I got it.
01:12:05Come on.
01:12:06Come on.
01:12:07Okay.
01:12:08I got it.
01:12:09You're ready to go.
01:12:10Yeah.
01:12:11Okay.
01:12:12Okay.
01:12:13In addition to all of the social events that we, uh, that we hold at the, the, the graph,
01:12:17like um the harvest ball which yeah right i know we're all looking forward to the harvest ball
01:12:26yes i'm sure you are indeed yes so i think it's also uh relevant and uh very important to
01:12:36pay close attention to the um civic benefits that do you have a point i do i'm getting i'm getting
01:12:45i'm sorry okay the graph is old it's it's it's the the right kind of old it's a good old we have a
01:13:01furnace down there that your grandfather couldn't repair been over this being old doesn't qualify a
01:13:08building for landmark status i'm afraid unless you have something new to add you're going to have
01:13:15to yield the floor i am making a point i'm making i have several points and i'm just i may be able to
01:13:21help with that i think i may have found proof that shows that the graph hotel deserves to be a
01:13:43historic landmark uh do you mind if i oh please yes mary catherine donnelly worked as a maid at the
01:13:57graph hotel from 1900 to 1903 we don't know much about her except for a few letters that she left
01:14:05behind after she moved on fortunately she also left behind some photographs one in particular
01:14:14was very interesting in april 1903 mary catherine had her photograph taken next to president theodore
01:14:24roosevelt's in front of the graph hotel teddy roosevelt was in forest ridge
01:14:30that spring he was at yellowstone national park to lay the cornerstone of the roosevelt arches
01:14:37which still stand at the north entrance today teddy loved this part of the west more than anything so
01:14:43he decided to stay and do a little bit more exploring what nobody was expecting was that it was going to be
01:14:52the coldest spring on record a freak snowstorm rolled in leaving three feet of snow and teddy and his entire
01:15:01crew stranded just outside forest ridge by the time that the party made it back into town
01:15:07they spent three nights at the graph hotel until the roads were clear and you have proof of all this i do
01:15:13right here i have a diary entry from roosevelt he kept one most of his life and in april 1903
01:15:27he wrote snowed in at a little scrappy town called forest ridge stayed at the graph hotel best three nights
01:15:37of sleep in years but it wasn't just the graph that inspired him it was forest ridge it was montana it was
01:15:48this entire part of the country and its people and the culture that inspired him while he was snowed in
01:15:57so shortly after he went back to washington he decided to sign the antiquities act which gave him
01:16:05and all of the future presidents the power to preserve the beautiful country of ours so that
01:16:12future generations could enjoy everything that he had
01:16:15by making the graph hotel a historic landmark we are not only celebrating roosevelt's legacy
01:16:25we are celebrating the spirit that makes this city this country so special
01:16:32thank you
01:16:35thank you taylor that was well if we didn't love our town before we certainly do now
01:16:51now i believe joel sheenan would like a chance to have his say
01:16:56i love this town
01:17:12i do
01:17:15it's my home
01:17:17you know my family's been a big part of forest ridge for five generations
01:17:24five generations it's crazy
01:17:29they were here and i think my great great grandparents timothy and mary catherine sheenan
01:17:41they'd be proud to support whatever decision this council makes
01:17:48thank you
01:17:53the request for building permits has been tabled pending our official submission to the state
01:18:07of montana for the graph hotel to be granted landmark status
01:18:11you're up early
01:18:29i think it's about time to head back
01:18:33thank you
01:18:35i've still got a business to run
01:18:36besides it's gonna take a while to rework the plans for the graph
01:18:41you think the state will go along with the town
01:18:45make the hotel official landmark
01:18:48it's pretty hard to argue with tay roosevelt
01:18:53what taylor found
01:18:58about mary catherine your great great grandmother
01:19:01kind of part of our history too
01:19:05harvest balls tonight
01:19:10you don't think he could hold off leaving for one more day
01:19:13not that i can't
01:19:14you know i'm about the last person that anybody wants to see at the ball
01:19:21especially taylor
01:19:26truth is i'm

01:22:15Hey.
01:22:16Joel told me you heard what I said to our investors.
01:22:20I'm sorry.
01:22:22I just got so caught up with the pitch,
01:22:24I didn't realize I was coming between you and Joel.
01:22:26I mean, it wasn't your fault.
01:22:28Joel could have said something.
01:22:29Trust me, he did.
01:22:31The moment those guys were gone,
01:22:32he told me taking you to the ball
01:22:34had nothing to do with business.
01:22:36Really?
01:22:38I mean, I didn't...
01:22:40I had no idea.
01:22:44Well, now that everything's settled,
01:22:46I got to get back, but, uh...
01:22:48I didn't want to leave without telling you.
01:22:51Thanks.
01:22:52Wait, where is Joel?
01:22:53Uh, someone spoke with him,
01:22:55he said he was heading to California?
01:23:06Joel, hey, it's Taylor.
01:23:08Look, I just spoke with Ray,
01:23:10and he told me what you said,
01:23:11and that you really wanted to go to the ball with me.
01:23:13And that, that part of you
01:23:16that I really wanted to believe in was real.
01:23:19Just like you said that you were finding
01:23:21what you were looking for out there somewhere,
01:23:23I...
01:23:24I've been looking, too.
01:23:28And I know that I have found it here with you.
01:23:32Anyways, I'm still at the graph,
01:23:34and I'll wait for you.
01:23:36Just please,
01:23:38and please don't leave.
01:23:39You were right.
01:23:48Business or not,
01:23:50I should have spoken.
01:23:53You didn't leave.
01:23:55Gus, look at you.
01:23:59You're right.
01:24:00It's you.
01:24:01I couldn't leave without saying
01:24:07I'm sorry.
01:24:17You're showing me
01:24:18my great-great-grandmother's face
01:24:20for the first time.
01:24:23You know, I, uh,
01:24:23I recognized her name
01:24:25from the marriage certificate.
01:24:27Well, we never had a

01:24:33Until now.
01:24:35Well, if I knew who she was,
01:24:36I obviously would have told you.
01:24:38Seeing them like that,
01:24:40just...
01:24:42Well, I guess it made me wonder
01:24:44what it was like for them.
01:24:46They were starting out together.
01:24:49Their whole lives ahead of on.
01:24:50everything brand new.
01:24:56Including
01:24:56this hotel.
01:25:04I guess some things
01:25:05just seem right.
01:25:09Um, maybe it is
01:25:10that simple.
01:25:13Well, two people just
01:25:15suddenly know.
01:25:18Oh, it's great.
01:25:21Two people.
01:25:25I think so.
01:25:28There you are.
01:25:29Ah, what are you doing
01:25:31out here?
01:25:31It's freezing.
01:25:32Come on.
01:25:34Party's for you, too.
01:25:36We'll give the poor guy
01:25:36his jacket back.
01:25:37It's freezing.
01:25:38You've got your own jacket.
01:25:42Shall we?
01:25:43Stop.
01:25:43Stop.
01:25:44Stop.
01:25:44Stop.
01:25:53Stop.

01:25:56Stop.
01:25:57I'm sorry.
01:26:01Stop.
01:26:02Oh, our hearts will fill as the ashes flow in the sky.
01:26:09The stars, they sing in their bright refrain that we never have to say goodbye.
01:26:25Who knew that bad weather could change the lives of so many for the better?
01:26:32Then and now.
01:26:55My heart is where it always was.
01:27:02I want to know where I was going.
01:27:08I want to know where I was going.
01:27:12I want to know where I was going.
01:27:14I want to know where I was going.
01:27:16I want to know where I was going.
01:27:21I want to know where I was going.
01:27:23I want to know where I was going.
01:27:29I want to know where I was going.
01:27:31I want to know where I was going.
01:27:33I want to know where I was going.
01:27:39I want to know where I was going.
01:27:41I want to know where I was going.
01:27:43I want to know where I was going.
01:27:48I want to know where I was going.
