00:00This visual illusion is so weird. Focus on the cross between these two photographs.
00:04Now as you're looking at that cross, the images are going to begin to change.
00:07You're going to see different famous people, but just keep focused on the cross.
00:10And after a couple of seconds, something weird should start to happen.
00:13The faces begin to look distorted, disfigured.
00:16It's like the features are all out of proportion.
00:18What you're experiencing is something called the flashed face distortion effect.
00:21What's actually happening is your brain is holding on to previous images
00:24and overlaying those on new ones as they appear in your peripheral vision.
00:27Because you're not looking at the photographs directly,
00:30your brain is basically trying to fill in the blanks.
00:32Now you might think that I've edited these photographs to make them look strange,
00:35but that's not the case.
