00:00Joe was a traitor. I came very close to being banished myself.
00:25Why?
00:30I am, and have always been, a traitor.
00:53I'm so sorry.
00:54Oh, he's been tearing me apart. I'm so sorry.
00:59Oh, thank you.
01:01Brilliant, Liam.
01:03You did great. You did great. You did great. You did great.
01:05You did great. You did great. You did great.
01:07You did great. You did great. You did great. You did great. You did great.
01:23Hello, and welcome to the Celebrity Traitors Uncloaked Grand Finale.
01:27I'm Ed Gamble, and we're going to be unpacking everything from that jaw-dropping last episode with all our finalists.
01:33We're here at the BBC Radio Theatre with a studio audience full of our all-star cast of Celebrity Faithful and Traitors.
01:39And how amazing do they all look? You look incredible.
01:41Coming up, Claudia Winkleman is here to finally discuss the show she usually has to avoid talking about.
01:51Kat, Joe, David and Nick will be on this stage to decompress from that unbelievably stressful final day.
01:57And our winner, Alan, will be joining us to tell us what it takes to go all the way.
02:00Get yourself comfy because this is the Celebrity Traitors Uncloaked finale.
02:07What a final episode. I mean, I was so stressed that I am, well, let's just say Celia would have been proud.
02:14We're going to be speaking to the finalists shortly, but first off, I am joined by the fingerless glove-wearing legend that is Claudia Winkleman.
02:24Hello.
02:25Claudia.
02:26Welcome. Welcome back to Uncloaked. You've just seen that very, very tense finale. How did you feel watching it back?
02:33Quite emotional. Can I just show everybody my T-shirt?
02:36Absolutely.
02:37There he is.
02:42Because even though, obviously, I was there, yes, just watching it back, because I don't watch the other ones back.
02:49So, yeah, it was a lot and it's just amazing that our cast are here.
02:51The atmosphere in this room was electric. I mean, I'm not a football fan, but I'd imagine this is what it feels like to watch England score a big goal.
02:59You see?
03:00It was amazing.
03:01Yeah.
03:02What was it like at the time, though? Obviously, watching it back is a different experience. What was it like when you were in the room for that endgame?
03:07Well, unbelievable. I mean, my knees were knocking because I'm incredibly nervous. And it is, without sounding like a total tool, it is an absolute privilege to always be in those, at those round tables.
03:21But, yeah, the endgame was quite something. And when the third green pouch went in, and I realised what was happening.
03:28People have seen this now. I'd imagine there's already videos going up online of pubs, people watching it, and pints just flying in the air.
03:35It was, because you feel, I feel so protective of them all. You feel for them individually. I love Nick, because all he could just say was, Joe.
03:45And Joe was utterly brilliant. You know, that moment he went, I've worked out who they are. It was like a pull focus. I was like, watch him go.
03:54And then Kat, who was extraordinary throughout, was so brilliant in the turret, and the fact they caught, you know, the whole thing is sort of highly emotional.
04:04You gave a speech to them quite early on in the game about how people lie to them all of the time, because they're celebrities. I love that speech.
04:10Do you think that sort of thing makes the game harder for celebrities?
04:14I don't know that it makes it harder for them, but I thought there were two things. One, the traitors were utterly brilliant.
04:22Yeah. And two, so there was only so much they could do. But it is a hard game.
04:29You know, the absolute star of this whole thing is the game is addictive. It takes over. It's hard for anyone.
04:35But what I also love is, because people watch at home sometimes, and sometimes people will say to me, how do they not know?
04:42You don't know. It's very easy when you're watching at home. But when you're sitting there, it is almost impossible.
04:48Now, I know you're very fond of everyone who played the game, but I know you had a particular fondness for one player.
04:54I'm talking about the national treasure that is Celia.
04:56Oh, my gosh.
04:57What is it in particular that draws you to Celia?
05:01She is so twinkly. I've never met anybody that twinkly. I've always loved Celia. So when they said, Celia's taking part, I was like, are you joking? The actual? Or like a tribute? No, the actual.
05:16And I'm not allowed. I have to be like Cruella de Vil, which I find difficult because I just wanted to go, oh, I love your song and you're brilliant.
05:22And so I'm not allowed. I'm just like strict and fluorescent orange. And there was one point when I'm standing next to Celia and just out the corner of my mouth, I thought the producers weren't here, so I just went, obsessed.
05:35And she was like, thank you.
05:38Celia, it's wonderful to hear, you know, how much Claudia loves you, but we want to know, have you got any better at snooping?
05:44No, not really. Really not. Um, I'm just, um, the thing is that you said you were obsessed after I'd admitted I was two-faced.
05:54That's why we were all obsessed by you, because Celia, well, my other favourite thing that Celia did is she would say, you are dazzling, and then write their name on the board. It was so compelling.
06:05Someone else who didn't make the final, Nico, unfortunately, you went out quite early, but how was it watching that back? Do you think there was some good gameplay in there?
06:13Um, yeah, I mean, Joe, I was very impressed with. I just can't believe it was bottled at the end, at the final, in the final moment.
06:21But yeah, it's a very tough game. I do feel, in a way, like I made it to the final, because I have the same name as Nick.
06:28So...
06:29You were there?
06:30Yeah, so, um, yeah. Almost won.
06:34Now, we're going to be hearing from our finalists and our winner quite soon, but first, Claudia, you are the hostess with the mostess.
06:41And thank you so much for entertaining us week after week. And I know you hate this bit.
06:44I hate it. I know you hate the compliments.
06:45Well, you're going to hate this bit even more, because let's have a look at your best bits.
06:49Tiny word of warning, don't relax too much. Tomorrow, the killing spree begins. This isn't personal, but it is tradition.
06:59Oh!
07:01I know you're thinking it, so I'm going to say it. They've just dug their own graves.
07:06Nothing like the sound of screaming celebrities.
07:09Stephen Fry's in the water, they got it.
07:12Faithful, you are breaking my heart. You are famous. People lie to you all the time.
07:20I love that show. It's a great jacket. I listened to that particular podcast twice.
07:30What just happened?
07:31I just filed it, Claudia. But I always own up.
07:35I know. I always own up, too.
07:37Well done.
07:40We'll get you out with the others shortly.
07:43No immediate rush.
07:45Come to me! Come on!
07:47Run!
07:49Queen!
07:50We did it!
07:56That was better than my wedding day.
08:06Thank you, Claudia.
08:11Iconic as ever. Thank you, Claudia.
08:12We'll be talking to our winner, Alan, soon, but with me now,
08:15I'm thrilled to welcome our four runners-up, Kat, Joe, David and Neil!
08:25Well, we're very excited to have you with us here for this very special finale.
08:29Kat, let's talk about that final round table, because going into it,
08:32you and Alan were very confident.
08:34I mean, erring on cocky, would you say?
08:37You were sort of very sure that Joe was on your side.
08:40Yeah, we were. Do you know, I was hoodwinked by Joe.
08:42I did think, I did think that you were going to be the deciding vote,
08:48because I was like, I knew Nick was going to vote for me
08:50and then I knew realistically David would vote for me, too.
08:54So then I was like, it's going to be Joe.
08:57And I did think that you were going to go for David,
08:59and then it was when the conversation on the round table,
09:03it was varied, but then towards the end of the conversation,
09:06I was like, mmm, I feel like Joe's going to vote for me.
09:09And you couldn't look me in the eye.
09:10So that's when I was like, yeah, my time's done.
09:13I had a good run.
09:15And then I got dashed.
09:16But even when we were in Scotland speaking,
09:18I think you were still under the impression that Joe changed his mind last minute.
09:21How does it feel watching it back and knowing that
09:23that was pretty much Joe's plan all along?
09:25I think it's just fabulous television.
09:27I just think it's so funny that me and Alan are like, yeah, yeah,
09:30we've got this, we've got this.
09:31And Joe's like, I know it's them two and I'm going to get them out.
09:34I just think it's great telly.
09:36At what point did you start to suspect Kat?
09:39Because I think from our perspective as a viewer,
09:41you were sort of, you know, sniffing around some traitors,
09:43but then in that episode eight, you were like, it's Alan and Kat
09:46and just blew everyone away.
09:47Yeah, I think I worked it out on day one
09:50that it was Jonathan, Kat and Alan.
09:53But I was having so much fun in there.
09:56Yeah.
09:57No, the shield cock-ups from Jonathan and Alan,
10:02they were the sort of giveaways for me that I was like,
10:05hmm, I like shields.
10:07You don't seem to like them as much as me.
10:09Now, Nick, you were suspicious of Kat from, I think, episode five.
10:13Yeah.
10:14But you decided to keep that to yourself.
10:16Yeah.
10:17Which is a very clever plan,
10:18but how do you feel about how the plan played out in the end?
10:20Oh, I think I thought I was being clever
10:22and then it all just backfired a little bit.
10:25I think as soon as you...
10:26There was one round table where you voted for David
10:29that felt just didn't ring true for some reason.
10:32I thought...
10:33And at first I thought it was you and Lucy.
10:34I remember thinking it was you, Lucy and Jonathan.
10:36Yeah.
10:37And I thought you and Lucy were in cahoots.
10:39But that was wrong.
10:40I mean, I was wrong pretty much every single step of the way
10:42in every episode, I think.
10:44I don't think that's true at all.
10:45I think there were people that were more wrong than you.
10:47Okay.
10:48And I'm naming no names.
10:51David, next question for you.
10:56What do you think it was about Kat's game
10:58that meant that so few people suspected her right up until the end?
11:02Well, I think a number of people did suspect Kat,
11:05but we did this thing where we would suspect somebody,
11:08have a conversation with one other person
11:10and then totally forget that at the round table.
11:13We just kept doing the same thing.
11:16You know, I think we had a conversation,
11:18I think episode five, about Kat.
11:20And then we both voted for somebody else at the round table.
11:22So there was not much...
11:24I think you voted for me.
11:25Yeah, I think I was, yeah.
11:26That's what I meant by somebody else.
11:28Kat, the night you go into the turret
11:32to meet your fellow traitors,
11:33and you see it's Alan and Jonathan,
11:35how confident are you at that point
11:37that you can move through the game as a group of traitors?
11:40I just found it so funny when it was Alan.
11:43I couldn't hold it in.
11:45I think I was really confident
11:47because I just thought it was quite a rogue trio.
11:51Like, I really didn't expect it to be me.
11:53And then when Claudia tapped me, I was like,
11:55oh my God, what the heck?
11:57So when I saw it was Alan, I was like...
11:59When I saw it was Alan and Jonathan, I was like,
12:01I feel like we can get pretty far
12:03because Jonathan's a great talker, as we could see.
12:05He got through so many round tables.
12:08And then Alan, all he had to do was go...
12:10And everyone just went, oh, it's not him.
12:13So it was a fabulous trio.
12:15Well, yeah, one of the big dogs is out the kennel.
12:17Jonathan is with us here.
12:19You seem very pleased that Kat and Alan
12:21were your comrades, Jonathan.
12:22Do you think it's the difference in personalities
12:24that made you confident about the group?
12:26I think I was just...
12:27I mean, I was just happy to see someone else up there with me.
12:30I mean, I know Kat a little bit
12:32and I knew how calm she is
12:34and I know how she presents as being very calm.
12:36So I thought that would be useful.
12:38And when Alan came in, I just think, you know,
12:40he's so much fun to spend time in.
12:41I mean, looking back now, Alan played a far more
12:43kind of tactical game than I thought he was at the time.
12:46He was far clever with it.
12:47And I knew you were very tactical as well.
12:49A lot of the time...
12:50I mean, a lot of the time we got there
12:51and I said, I think we should kill so-and-so.
12:53And they both talked me around
12:55and we wound up killing someone
12:56who I really thought we shouldn't kill.
12:58But they had a better grasp of the game, I think, really.
13:00Are you happy that it was a Tracers win in the end?
13:02Oh, yeah, that's all I really wanted.
13:04I mean, you know...
13:05And that's what I think is probably different
13:06about this version of the game to the regular version,
13:08is that it does become more like
13:10the two teams against each other.
13:11But I really wanted to see one of the...
13:13or ideally two of them get through to the end,
13:15and you did, of course.
13:16But having watched last week's episode,
13:18there's no way I thought either of you were going to survive.
13:20And for that, I think we do need to thank Nick.
13:24You're very welcome.
13:27Let's thank him, shall we?
13:30I cannot... I cannot believe.
13:35We'll get to it, Joe. Don't worry.
13:37We'll get to...
13:38You will have your chance to have a say.
13:40The Humdy P collapse.
13:43It's amazing being in the room with your stare.
13:46It really is unsettling, Joe.
13:47My stare?
13:48Your stare, yeah.
13:49Oh, yeah, the stare?
13:50Yeah, the stare.
13:51What is the stare?
13:52It's your face.
13:56How did it feel watching the final back?
13:58Yeah, it was fine.
14:00No issues whatsoever.
14:03Me and Nick are right.
14:04Me and David are right.
14:05Just struggle to make eye contact with them from now on.
14:09I mean, I was sitting in the row in front of you watching that,
14:11and when you saw you get banished,
14:13you did shout scumbags at them.
14:15Did I?
14:18No, I didn't mean that.
14:19I didn't mean that.
14:20I was...
14:22I just couldn't work out.
14:23I still...
14:24I don't think until we spoke...
14:26I said, what was it?
14:27And it was because I was, like you just said, being polite.
14:32And saying...
14:33I wasn't saying sorry to Kat because I was Judas in her, like you did me.
14:36I was so convinced.
14:38I was saying sorry to Kat because I really liked her and enjoyed my time together.
14:44I was like, sorry, mate.
14:46What happened?
14:47When Joe and I text each other after we got out of the castle,
14:50he continually refers to me as Judas,
14:52and then occasionally replaces the you with a heart,
14:56which is quite nice.
14:59You're arguably, Joe, the most accurate traitor hunter,
15:02because you got Kat and Alan correct.
15:04I mean, you're more on a traitor's safari.
15:07You didn't actually hunt all of the traitors.
15:10And, of course, you were the leader of the big dog theory.
15:13I mean, how did you do it?
15:14Because you seem to have all these brilliant theories,
15:16but you couldn't quite convince everyone of them.
15:19Well, yeah.
15:22They were sort of stolen theories, majority.
15:24I was like, oh, that sounds good.
15:26Yeah, we'll go with that one and then amalgamate one.
15:29And then trying to convince the rest of the players to get round it
15:34was a lot harder than I thought.
15:37Kate, why do you think people latched on to the big dog theory
15:40and not other theories, for example, the sun-dried tomato theory?
15:44I can't, I can't imagine.
15:46I'm genuinely flabbergasted.
15:53I mean, the sun-dried tomato theory,
15:55it's very, very common in criminal law,
15:57the sun-dried tomato theory.
15:59So, yeah, it's weird, isn't it?
16:01David, I want to ask you about that final round table,
16:04because obviously it came to two apiece for you and Kat.
16:07You'd obviously had a lot of suspicion on you throughout the game,
16:10including that incredibly tense round table with Mark.
16:13Yeah, yeah, I remember.
16:14Did you think that this was it for you?
16:17Did you think your luck had finally run out?
16:19I was mainly thinking that this was our kind of last chance
16:22to try to get a traitor.
16:23I wasn't really thinking about me getting voted out.
16:25And I had come round to that point by talking to Nick in particular,
16:30thinking it was Kat.
16:32So I was mainly focused on can we get a traitor?
16:35Joe's grand plan went up in flames, sadly.
16:38Sorry, Joe.
16:39How did you feel in that moment when David and Nick voted for you?
16:42Because you seemed genuinely surprised.
16:44I think you've been amazing throughout the game of putting on a face
16:47and really, really sort of psyching people out a little bit
16:50and maintaining this character and you're doing it to me now
16:53and I know what you're doing, Joe.
16:55But in that moment, you seemed to drop everything
16:57and you were genuinely surprised.
16:59I was, it was a combination of, like, gutted.
17:02I was like, oh no, I really, like, this has backfired massively.
17:07What have I got wrong?
17:08And then I just want, I was desperate to get out and go,
17:11right, where's Kat?
17:12I need, like, to see you.
17:14I knew you were a traitor, but I was like, I just need to see you.
17:17I'm sorry I voted you even though it was a traitor.
17:19It was, yeah, it was a surprise, but there's no hard feelings at all
17:22because ultimately it was just a really, really big, fun game.
17:26You'd said you had some suspicions over Alan.
17:28I did.
17:29And then you didn't vote for him.
17:31You didn't vote to carry on the game.
17:32I didn't vote for Alan once in the whole show, I think.
17:37But going into that endgame, you were like, I've got some suspicion.
17:40And the way the game works, if no one's saying
17:42whether they're traitor or faithful, the safe thing to do would be
17:45to carry the game on.
17:46Yeah.
17:47But you didn't do that.
17:48Can you talk us through the thought process?
17:50I just don't know what I was thinking.
17:53I feel like Alan's just very, Alan is incredibly persuasive
17:59because he's so relaxed and he is so Alan.
18:01And he's so, he was just so convincing throughout the whole game.
18:05And I just, I was like, you know what?
18:06I think, I think we've got it.
18:08I think we've now just got that final traitor,
18:10which I believed to be Joe at that point.
18:12How did it feel watching the final back?
18:14It was, I mean, I was sat behind you.
18:16So I was just an absolute wreck.
18:20It's so great.
18:21It's such great telly.
18:22Can I, big shout out.
18:23I don't know the name of the, who composes the score,
18:25but the score is absolutely phenomenal because it is,
18:31it is so, it feels like you're watching a Marvel movie
18:35or something.
18:36It is just cliffhanger, suspense, release, suspension, tense.
18:40It is, it's, all the emotions.
18:42And that last, yeah, that last 15, 20 minutes,
18:44I was just clinging onto Joe and shouting cat.
18:48It was brilliant, Nick.
18:49Me and Nick bumped into each other in town the other day
18:52and he dragged me down a dark alley.
18:55It was very traitors-esque, dragged me down a dark alley
18:57and went, everyone's going to hate me.
19:00But we don't hate him, do we, at all?
19:02No.
19:03That wasn't everyone, okay.
19:06About 30%.
19:09And then came the time to reveal your identities.
19:12But before we discuss that with our winner, Alan,
19:14I have my own reveal to do.
19:16I've been teasing on Uncloaked about my secret cameo
19:18in the main show and have been telling you at home
19:20to watch out for my Easter egg.
19:22Did you spot me?
19:23Well, I can now exclusively reveal where I was hiding.
19:30For me, the only time I saw you ever intimidated in the game, Joe,
19:33do you remember the mission in the cabin?
19:37Mm.
19:38So as you approach, there's druids lining the path.
19:41Yes.
19:42And then there's one druid in the middle.
19:44They swing your door open and pull you out the car.
19:46Pulled me out the car.
19:47You seemed very scared by that guy.
19:49My adrenaline did spike.
19:51Yeah.
19:52And I was like, I'm going for this one.
19:54From what I could tell, the druid wasn't scared of you at all.
19:56And he did really, really well.
19:58He did do really well.
19:59Yeah.
20:00Even though he's not normally a druid.
20:01What's that...
20:02What...
20:03Your...
20:04Would you like to tell me...
20:05Yes.
20:06Who was that druid?
20:07Me, I was the druid.
20:08You were that druid?
20:09I was that druid, yeah.
20:10Are you taking the mic?
20:12I was the druid.
20:13I was ready to fill you in.
20:18Because you kept going, you kept going,
20:19Oh, you're just going to touch me, are you?
20:23This is so good.
20:25Yes, I wasn't the drummer from episode eight.
20:34I was, in fact, a druid.
20:36Nick, you were the other person I dragged from the Land Rover there.
20:40Yeah.
20:41Do you want to...
20:42I mean, we did tell you.
20:43We did film a reveal.
20:44Do you want to tell everyone what happened when I revealed to you that I was the druid?
20:47Well, from memory...
20:48I mean, I knew that it was you right from the start, because I could see your eyes.
20:53And Ed and I were at uni together.
20:55I was slightly after him.
20:56And so I've known Ed for ages.
20:57I was like, well, that's Ed.
21:01I was gutted when you told me.
21:02I was so excited to reveal it to you.
21:04And I knew instantly.
21:05And there was a real, actually, sense of...
21:06I was like, oh, one of my friends is here.
21:08It was really nice.
21:10But, yeah, I mean, I knew it was you instantly.
21:13Well, now's the time you've all been waiting for,
21:15after sweating and worrying he'd be worse than Linda,
21:18to cold-bloodedly killing his friends.
21:20Our winner, Alan, is about to join me.
21:22But first, here's the moment he spoke to me in the castle
21:24just after he pulled the charity prize money
21:26from underneath Nick and David's noses.
21:35Hello, how are you?
21:36Oh, the winner.
21:37The winner.
21:43Welcome to Uncloaked, Alan.
21:44Oh, thanks for having me, Ed.
21:46Congratulations, the winner.
21:47I know, still hasn't sunk in.
21:49It's insane, isn't it?
21:50It is insane.
21:51When Claudia initially selected you as a traitor,
21:54did you ever, in your wildest dreams,
21:56see yourself at that endgame
21:57and winning the whole of the show?
21:59No, no, no, no, no.
22:01I did not even think I would get this far.
22:03My agent, this is a little exclusive,
22:05had actually booked in things for the second week.
22:10Because he said, Alan, he said,
22:12your poker face you'll be out two days in,
22:15and I actually believed him.
22:16And that's even before you knew
22:18whether you were a traitor or a faithful.
22:19You just assumed, whichever you were,
22:21you were going to go out early.
22:22Yeah, yeah, yeah.
22:23I mean, I'm like that when I go through customs,
22:25I start sweating.
22:26You know, when I go into a newsagent
22:27and it says, no shoplifting,
22:29I'm like, oh, like that.
22:31You know, it's just, I just feel I'm guilty,
22:33and I've got the worst poker face going.
22:35I mean, it's like a tug of war with my face.
22:39That endgame as well felt like the first time
22:42that we saw Sirius, Alan, in the game.
22:44Yeah.
22:45Was that a challenge?
22:46Did you suddenly feel different at that endgame?
22:48I did feel different.
22:50And it's that weird irony,
22:52the more missions you do,
22:54the more you spend time with people.
22:57You are like a family,
22:58and that's cheesy and bleh, but it is true.
23:01Of course, when you see the money behind,
23:04I mean, £87,500 for a charity,
23:08that's when, yeah, come on, Alan, stop giggling.
23:11Celia said something lovely to me
23:13before I murdered her.
23:14She said, Alan, you're surprising.
23:19You surprised me the way you ran across that bridge.
23:22And I thought, well, that's the best you can do,
23:25is surprise yourself.
23:27So, yeah.
23:28Alan, are you proud of how well you played the game?
23:30So proud.
23:31Really, really proud.
23:33I found out about myself.
23:35I can be a chameleon.
23:37I can chat to people.
23:39I can lie.
23:40I can, when the pressure's on, I can do it.
23:43When Stephen Fry talks or David talks,
23:46I go quiet.
23:47I'm not worthy.
23:48I'm not intelligent.
23:49But maybe sometimes you do need to question,
23:52stand up for yourself and go,
23:53actually, I think this.
23:56Yeah.
23:57So, yeah, yeah.
23:58Well, I think you winning has absolutely proved that.
24:01Yeah.
24:02Idiots can do well.
24:03Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
24:09The winner of the first UK celebrity trade course is Alan Carr!
24:24There it is.
24:27Alan, congratulations again.
24:29Ben.
24:30What a huge triumph.
24:31Is it fair to say that no one's more shocked than you
24:32that you mentioned you called yourself?
24:33I am so shocked.
24:34It's true what I said.
24:35I had to ring up my, the woman who was dog-sitting my dogs
24:38because I thought I'd be back after two days
24:40and then you've got them for another week
24:42and it just kept getting more and more and more.
24:44I'm completely surprised.
24:46I don't know how this happened.
24:48I really don't.
24:50Look, and when we were watching it back,
24:51you got a big standing ovation right at the end there.
24:54Oh, I know, I know.
24:55It's so amazing.
24:56I feel, I do feel bad for doing it, but I mean, what can you do?
25:00It's, you know, I mean, I felt bad.
25:03So you played the game and you were incredible at it.
25:04I know, I know, I know, I know.
25:06How did it feel watching the end game back?
25:08Oh, God, so emotional.
25:10I mean, me crying as well.
25:12I mean, because I couldn't remember how,
25:15because Joe was on to us
25:17and I couldn't remember how you got voted out,
25:19but then I lied and said you'd told us all to vote for David.
25:22And I'd forgotten I'd lied.
25:24What have I become?
25:27You did quite a lot of lying, actually.
25:29I did loads of lying and I started loving it.
25:31I just hope there's not like a murder in my street.
25:34You know what I mean?
25:35I open the door, hello, officer.
25:36I didn't see anything.
25:42Yeah, I mean, it just comes really naturally to me.
25:45I mean, yeah.
25:47Can we talk about your journey from sweaty Alan to serial killer Alan?
25:51Yes, please.
25:52What was the moment that you dried out and thought,
25:55I can do this?
25:57Well, it was...
25:59When I killed Paloma...
26:03Give me a break.
26:06Because the thing is, when I killed Paloma, yeah,
26:09I felt sick inside.
26:11And you've got to remember,
26:12it was such a cruel twist to touch someone's face.
26:15Now, you're the only one.
26:17Maybe...
26:18And Jonathan was a traitor.
26:19I couldn't...
26:20I mean, if I touched any of these other faces,
26:21I'd be sent to HR.
26:24You know, old roof, hello.
26:26You know, I can't.
26:29And then, when she came down for breakfast the next day,
26:31I went, oh, because I felt so sick.
26:34I thought, oh, good.
26:35She hasn't been murdered.
26:36I was so pleased.
26:37Lovely.
26:38And then we go outside.
26:39You're dressed as Queen Victoria.
26:40We then go to a funeral.
26:42I then see one of my best friends put in a coffin and sent off.
26:46I went, this is not going well.
26:48This is not what I wanted, you know.
26:51But then I got a taste for it.
26:52I couldn't stop.
26:53And then, after I killed Paloma,
26:55then I got all the gays getting...
26:57Because when we killed Tom Daley...
26:59Oh, Grey Alan killing off all the eye candy.
27:02I'm like, hello?
27:05And...
27:06And then...
27:09And then I saw him in the shower soaping himself up,
27:12and I was like, ah!
27:13I killed too soon.
27:16Maybe one more week.
27:18Maybe one more week.
27:22But then you know...
27:26I think it's fair to say,
27:27there are a few moments throughout your time on the show
27:29where we might have thought as viewers,
27:30I'm not sure if Alan can pull this off.
27:32One of them was certainly when you had to say,
27:34I am a faithful to everyone.
27:35Oh, my God.
27:36And laughed halfway through.
27:37How do you adjust your game plan after things like that?
27:40And do you adjust your game plan?
27:42Well, I thought I was finished then.
27:45I thought I was finished when I went, I'm a faithful.
27:49I thought, oh, that's it.
27:50And then Joe was on to me.
27:52And, yeah, I just sort of gave up, really.
27:55But I'm...
27:56But that's one thing I found out about myself.
27:58I am, like, a bit of a pushover.
28:00But when Joe is on to me,
28:03I'm like one of those cats you get in Greece.
28:05You know, those ones that are like...
28:07You go, oh, hello.
28:11You know, you go, oh, hello, you look quite...
28:15Claudia, did you ever doubt Alan's ability to pull this off?
28:19Yeah.
28:20No, I can say, I hope you don't mind this, but Alan started as Linda and ended as Harry.
28:28He had a extraordinary...
28:31Because at the beginning, when you came up to me, I can't do it.
28:35And he was like, I'm sweating.
28:37I can't keep a straight face.
28:39But he was absolutely...
28:41A, you're utterly brilliant, incredibly clever and totally consistent.
28:46So Alan was Alan.
28:47And if you didn't suspect him from day one, it's Alan.
28:50He can't say I'm a faithful.
28:51He's forgotten he's had a shield.
28:54My favourite Alan moment, almost, was you talking to Celia.
28:58And Celia said, can I trust you?
28:59And you went, you can trust me.
29:01And you had snakes all over your top.
29:04And I was like, it's right there, guys.
29:07But it's interesting.
29:08I thought I'm quite happy at the beginning to be a faithful.
29:11And then, of course, when you're sitting there and you've got the blindfold on and you pick,
29:15I mean, I don't know what shoes you're wearing, but you sounded like a Shire horse.
29:22I get a bit flamingo.
29:23And then when you went round and didn't touch me, there was a little bit like,
29:28oh, OK, I'm going to be a faithful, that's fine.
29:30So I realised deep inside, I probably did want to be a traitor.
29:33And then, of course, you come round again.
29:34And then when you squeezed my shoulders, I was like, oh, my God.
29:37But you were so sweet, because those chats where I have with everyone,
29:39they're much longer than you see.
29:41And as I said, there are some people who just don't even mark.
29:44Like, I only want to be a faithful.
29:47And many others.
29:49And then you going, did you really say that?
29:52I was like, that literally word for word is what he said.
29:55And you said, yeah, I want to be a traitor.
29:57And then burst out laughing.
29:58And we were like, oh, yeah, fun.
30:00I think if I did have a strategy, I think it was...
30:03Look at me now.
30:04Now I've won.
30:05I've got a strategy.
30:09I think what I did was I picked one...
30:11I mean, if I was pushed to do a strategy.
30:13Like, with Claire, I wouldn't let her go about the lever.
30:16And then with Mark, oh, you know, when you get all Braveheart,
30:19I want to win!
30:21Like that.
30:22I said, why are you being all like this?
30:24And then poor old Kate, I was making out.
30:26She was Goldie Horn.
30:28This dizzy blonde.
30:30I just kept saying to people, why?
30:32Why?
30:33You know, she's a broadcaster.
30:35She's live on the telly every morning.
30:37Why?
30:38That's what I was doing.
30:39I mean, have you seen that brilliant thing on social media?
30:42Kate Garraway repeats everything.
30:44Have you seen it?
30:45Someone's been recruited.
30:47Someone's been recruited!
30:49Sun-dried tomatoes.
30:51Sun-dried tomatoes!
30:53But I think if I had Australia, I'd just picked one thing
30:57and really went, oh, I don't know about them.
30:59They give me the eebie-jeebies.
31:01I mean, I hate to bang on too much about the Trojan horse mission,
31:05but I do want to chat to you a little bit, Claire.
31:07Are you still kicking yourself for pulling the lever?
31:11Oh, God, yes.
31:12And will do for a very long time.
31:14It was awful.
31:15As Alice, my wife, said to me, for God's sake,
31:16there would have been no one left on stage.
31:1826?
31:19What were you thinking?
31:20I was like, well, I just thought, start high and come down
31:22because we'll get more chances.
31:23They're working it out.
31:24Mark and Stephen are working it out.
31:26And I'll just start trying.
31:28And I was conscious of time.
31:30By the way, it makes total sense.
31:32It makes total sense.
31:33You're very sweet.
31:34Normally, no, but when you see those kinds of locks,
31:37you know, like a padlock, you have a couple of goes.
31:40That's what you did on the train, in fact.
31:42So it made total sense to me.
31:44No, I still feel really bad about it.
31:46And then I sort of shrank.
31:47But somebody talked to me the other day about it,
31:49and he's a legal advocate.
31:50And he said, although you made the mistake,
31:53at least you did put your hand up straight away and go,
31:55oh, my God, I am so sorry.
31:57And then Charlotte gave her shield up straight away,
31:59for which she didn't get enough credit.
32:01So I'm giving her credit now.
32:02Yes.
32:03And we carried on and we still won the mission.
32:04So actually, it didn't cost us anything money-wise.
32:07Yeah.
32:08I just looked a major tit.
32:09So I'm happy to take that for the team.
32:11I'll just take the idiot, you know.
32:13No.
32:14Mantle work.
32:15No one thinks that, Claire.
32:16Mark, I've just noticed you're wearing a T-shirt though.
32:18Will you tell us what the T-shirt says?
32:20It says, Jonathan fucking Ross.
32:27I would like to say I have given him one too.
32:30All right.
32:31As his early Christmas present.
32:32That's brilliant.
32:33We have to talk about that final mission,
32:36because that was amazing.
32:38It looked incredible.
32:39The explosion at the end.
32:41Kat, how much did you enjoy that final mission,
32:43your one last chance to get money for the pot?
32:45It was really fun.
32:46I mean, if I'm being honest,
32:48I really probably didn't do anything.
32:50It was mainly Joe.
32:52As I was to, like, grab something,
32:54then I saw the, like,
32:55having to take off the thing off the coffin,
32:57and I was like, mm, that's going to hurt my hands.
32:59That's why you went and did it.
33:01You just sort of did everything,
33:02and I was like, aw, yay.
33:04The boys are doing things.
33:08I think my favourite moment of that mission, though,
33:10was Nick dropping the lid on Joe's hand.
33:13Oh.
33:15Repeatedly.
33:16And I just hope you are friends now.
33:17It's a precursor of what was to come, really.
33:19I think...
33:20I should have known then.
33:22Three times, mate.
33:23Three times.
33:24It sounds really loud when you watch it back as well.
33:26Oh, it was loud.
33:27I mean, it literally is a wooden...
33:29It was a wooden lid dropping on his head repeatedly.
33:31Yeah.
33:32While we were basically watching the new Chuckle Brothers.
33:35Incredible.
33:36Alan, you forgot you had a shield,
33:38and obviously Joe picked up on this.
33:40Joe, why do you think no one else got on board with this?
33:43Because it seemed to be one of the clearest bits of evidence
33:45you had that Alan was a traitor.
33:48Again, a combination of not, like,
33:50really backing myself to convince everyone,
33:53but also I was madly in love with Alan as well.
33:56Like, even when I went after him
33:58and he came back at me like the Greek cat,
34:00I then was like,
34:02well, bless.
34:04I was like,
34:05okay, fair enough.
34:06So, yeah,
34:07I think there might have been something inside me
34:09that was like,
34:10I quite like Alan still being in the game.
34:12Because we were duped, weren't we?
34:14He was being really friendly to us, wasn't it?
34:16And we were like,
34:17we couldn't believe our luck,
34:18because Joe was coming and sitting with us going,
34:20you know, I think it's Nick and David.
34:22We thought we'd won.
34:23And we were like,
34:24yeah, Joe, yeah.
34:26Like, high-fiving and all that.
34:28That bit where you went,
34:29oh, bless him, as I walked off.
34:30And I've only just seen that.
34:31I went, oh, okay.
34:32I see.
34:34But then when you put Cat on the sleigh,
34:36I couldn't, I mean,
34:37that was like a punch in the stomach.
34:39That was,
34:40I was like,
34:41don't leave me here,
34:42don't leave me here.
34:43Nick and David,
34:44obviously neither of you went for Alan in the end.
34:47What is it about Alan Carl
34:48that made you eventually decide he was a faithful?
34:51Alan could have come down to breakfast in a green cloak
34:54and I still wouldn't have thought he was a traitor.
34:56I,
34:57I just thought someone who was a traitor
34:59would look a bit less guilty the whole time.
35:02And you just,
35:03Alan was being himself.
35:04And also,
35:05you know,
35:06it's the thing,
35:07you just made me laugh the whole time.
35:08I was too busy laughing to be suspicious.
35:10I think it's something that,
35:12I think,
35:13I think something that,
35:14I think something that Tom said actually,
35:16really, really early on,
35:17was that,
35:18that comedians,
35:20or some of the stand-ups,
35:22could sort of slightly deflect by...
35:23I said that.
35:24You said that,
35:25sorry Kat,
35:26I apologise.
35:27And, and it's so true.
35:28And actually,
35:29but Alan was just being Alan
35:30and it's so hilarious,
35:31like inherently hilarious.
35:33It just completely throwed us off.
35:35Were you worried about
35:36the way Alan was acting though, Kat?
35:38Because we saw loads of moments
35:39where you just had to tell him to be quiet.
35:41Yeah,
35:42but even at the last,
35:43even on the last episode,
35:44just going,
35:45please don't,
35:46don't shout.
35:47I was,
35:48I was shocked when I was cutting up that lemon
35:49and I watched it on the telly.
35:50Yeah.
35:51What are we going to do, Kat?
35:52I didn't think I was that loud.
35:55I feel like,
35:56like after a,
35:57after a few days in,
35:58or a few episodes in,
35:59I was kind of like,
36:00the best,
36:01like that,
36:02exactly what I,
36:03what I said to Nick.
36:04Comedians,
36:05the best way to disarm people
36:06is make them laugh.
36:07So people would be suspicious of Alan
36:08and then say something to him
36:09and he'd just make them laugh
36:10and then they'd go,
36:11oh ha ha, never mind.
36:12So I was like,
36:13Alan's never going to get caught
36:14and no one could think
36:15that he could do it.
36:16I mean, even with Jonathan,
36:17I did it.
36:18Yeah.
36:19Yes.
36:20By the fire,
36:21I did it.
36:22Yeah.
36:25Jonathan said,
36:26I'm going to have to have a word
36:27with him about that.
36:29Alan,
36:30that final,
36:31that final round table,
36:32when,
36:33when you saw that Joe
36:34had switched the vote
36:35that you thought he was going to do
36:36and he voted for Kat,
36:37what are you feeling in,
36:38in that moment?
36:39Oh,
36:40I mean,
36:41yeah,
36:42I was shocked.
36:43I thought he was out,
36:44I thought we'd really got him
36:46and then,
36:47yeah,
36:48and then I did,
36:49it was like a punch in the stomach.
36:50I felt physically sick
36:51and then I felt so alone
36:53because, you know,
36:54we were a great team together.
36:55So yeah,
36:56yeah,
36:57it was,
36:58really,
36:59you did pull the rug for it.
37:00And he'd been so sweet,
37:01so lovely
37:02and all that.
37:03But did you think you were like,
37:04did you think Nick was then
37:05going to vote against you as well then?
37:07Or did you think?
37:08I didn't really,
37:09you know,
37:10I just didn't really think.
37:12I don't,
37:13I don't know.
37:15It was quite emotional for you
37:17at the end though.
37:18We saw you get quite.
37:19Well all the lying
37:20and all that,
37:21it all just came bubbling up
37:22and it was,
37:23yeah,
37:24and then I think,
37:25you know,
37:26about getting,
37:27but you know,
37:28the charity I picked,
37:29I mean,
37:30I'm not,
37:31but you know,
37:32listen,
37:33the charity I picked
37:34is a really great charity
37:35and I know
37:36that that money
37:37is going to do them
37:38so much good.
37:39So that was there,
37:40I was thinking about
37:41all the lovely people
37:42I'd murdered.
37:43I felt bad.
37:45And then it all came up
37:46and then,
37:47when I saw that green
37:48come up,
37:49I was like,
37:50oh my God,
37:51then I got the joke like that.
37:52And then I thought,
37:53oh God,
37:54and then,
37:55I mean,
37:56your reactions when it came out.
37:57Let's remind ourselves
37:58of that emotional moment.
38:00Oh.
38:01It's been tearing me apart.
38:03I'm so sorry.
38:06You did brilliantly.
38:07You did brilliant.
38:08You did brilliant.
38:09You did brilliant.
38:10You did brilliant.
38:11It's a game.
38:12You did brilliantly.
38:13It's a game.
38:17And what you didn't,
38:18what you didn't see,
38:19I turned into that Greek cat
38:20and bit him.
38:24Alan, you said there
38:25it was tearing you apart.
38:26It was.
38:27Can I,
38:28can I ask you as someone
38:29who watched Alan write
38:30the murdered player's name
38:31every single night
38:32on the scroll,
38:33did you feel like
38:34it was tearing him apart?
38:35No.
38:36Honestly,
38:37like walking around
38:38that castle,
38:39seeing how stressed Alan was
38:40all the time,
38:41I was like,
38:42how does nobody see
38:43that it's this man?
38:44The only one that could
38:45kind of see was Claire.
38:46And I was like,
38:47if I was a faithful,
38:48I would have gone to Claire
38:49quite early on and gone,
38:50I think the same thing as you,
38:51but let's not say anything
38:52until a bit later.
38:53Let's round up some numbers.
38:54And I think that's why
38:55you ended up like going.
38:56He was so nervous
38:58just throughout.
38:59So when I saw you cry,
39:00I just started crying
39:01because I was like,
39:02oh, Alan.
39:03I mean, I just wanted to climb
39:04inside that suit of armour
39:05that's in the hallway.
39:06Just close the thing down
39:08and just,
39:09do you know what I mean?
39:10Just leave me alone, everyone.
39:12What about you, David?
39:14In that moment that Alan got emotional,
39:15you'd run over to comfort him.
39:16How are you feeling?
39:17Well, it was such a genuine moment.
39:19It was just poured out of Alan
39:21and it was,
39:22it snapped us out of that thing.
39:23You know, this is a game.
39:25And the genuine nature of Alan's response
39:27just made us, you know,
39:28the obvious,
39:29the human thing to do
39:30was to, you know,
39:31give him a hug and say,
39:32it's a game and you won.
39:33You did brilliantly.
39:34Now, Alan, before we go,
39:35there's a bit of unfinished business
39:37to quote you.
39:38We've heard from Paloma on Uncloaked,
39:41but we want to hear,
39:42how was it murdering your good friend?
39:44It was...
39:46I can't even do it!
39:49It was so awful.
39:50It was so awful.
39:52And it's weird because,
39:53you know,
39:54I love, you know,
39:55I'm a fan of her music.
39:56I'm a fan of her for ages.
39:57You know, we are friends.
39:59We go on each other's podcast.
40:00So, yeah,
40:01it absolutely really hurt.
40:03It really did.
40:04Now, with the nation watching,
40:05do you think it's time for an apology?
40:07I mean, Paloma sat right there.
40:09I am so sorry.
40:12You know I am.
40:13And I want to tell everyone
40:14that I'm the father of a child.
40:21We had a make-up hug.
40:23One thing led to another.
40:26I have been known to term people.
40:28And it was an enjoyable experience
40:30for both of us, I hope.
40:32But I just also want to say that,
40:34I think,
40:35observing tonight
40:36and going through
40:37my whole plethora of hormonal emotions,
40:40I feel like
40:41that the reason why Alan won
40:43and the reason why I was so sad
40:45was because we all love him so much.
40:48And I love you so much
40:51and I'm so happy that you won
40:53because it was bloody worth it then.
40:55Yeah.
40:56But I think that most people
40:57didn't vote for you
40:58because they're like,
40:59how can we vote someone
41:00that's so lovable?
41:01And it really concludes that thing.
41:04That you won it,
41:05you hurt me,
41:06and I loved you, but...
41:08Only love can hurt like that.
41:09Yeah, only love can hurt like this.
41:10And I just think he won it because everyone loves him
41:18and the nation loves him
41:20and I'm just really happy that he won.
41:22Sorry for rubbing it in by putting your head on the coffin.
41:25It doesn't look anything like it.
41:30On reflection,
41:31how do you think the experience has changed you?
41:33Oh, my God.
41:34I absolutely loved it.
41:37I absolutely loved it.
41:38We spent the whole time, didn't we, laughing
41:41and it was absolutely joyous.
41:44And honestly, I...
41:46Would I do it again?
41:47I was going to say, I'll do it again.
41:48I think people would know if I turned up again.
41:51Do it!
41:52I don't think that act.
41:53Oh, hello, don't mind me.
41:54What am I like?
41:55I don't think it would work a second time.
41:58You would be out before the first round table.
42:00There's no way that's working again.
42:02I know, I know.
42:03But it was wonderful.
42:04I loved it.
42:05And the response has just been amazing.
42:06I'm cracking up at all the memes
42:08and it's just weird.
42:09I've never...
42:10Of all the shows I've done,
42:11I've never had anything like this.
42:13You know, people going past on a bike.
42:15Traitor!
42:16Who you murdering now?
42:18I don't believe so.
42:19It has been absolutely amazing.
42:21I recommend it.
42:22It's wonderful.
42:23Well, look, you've been incredible.
42:24We've had iconic line after iconic line.
42:26Particular favourites.
42:28Kate gone away.
42:29I'm worse than Linda.
42:31You can't suspect someone
42:32just because they've got a better vocabulary than you.
42:34What's a knighthood when you're dead?
42:36Oh, God.
42:37And of course, and this is my favourite.
42:42If Kate doesn't come down for breakfast,
42:44people would just think she's gone into a broom cupboard by mistake.
42:48You're so right!
42:53And Alan, I'm giving you an opportunity now to right a wrong,
42:55to pull something off properly.
