00:00A deepfake video of soldier crying goes viral.

00:07A video of a young man crying, who claims to be a Ukrainian conscript,

00:11being sent to the front line, has racked up hundreds of thousands of views on social media.

00:25The clip has spread across Europe,

00:27subtitled in Hungarian, German and English,

00:29with captions accusing Ukraine of sending the country's youth to the slaughterhouse.

00:33But by conducting a reverse image search,

00:35the cube traced the video back to a now-deleted TikTok account,

00:38which posted dozens of videos appearing to show Ukrainian conscripts in distress.

00:43There are multiple indicators that this clip, like others, is in fact AI.

00:48To begin, multiple videos posted on the now-deleted TikTok account bear the Sora logo on them.

00:53Sora is OpenAI's latest text-to-video artificial intelligence tool.

00:58Sensity, an AI security startup, told the cube that it is possible to remove Sora's watermark during post-production,

01:05and that the videos of Ukrainian soldiers allegedly crying also display other inconsistencies.

01:10For instance, in one video of a crying soldier,

01:13although the word inscribed on his uniform appears to be written in Cyrillic characters,

01:18a closer inspection reveals that it is not a real Ukrainian word.

01:22Instead, it is a series of letters, some of which are not Cyrillic.

01:25According to Sensity, the helmet worn by the soldier does not also totally fit with real helmets used by soldiers.

01:31The conscription age in Ukraine is currently between 25 and 60 years old.

01:36Those aged under 25, such as the age the man in the video claims to be,

01:41are only able to sign up voluntarily.

01:43The age was lowered from 27 to 25 in April of 2024,

01:47as part of a bid to bolster troop numbers amidst Russia's ongoing war,

01:51while the average age remains 43 years old.
