00:00Grave Torture 2024 is an Indonesian horror and psychological thriller film written and directed
00:06by Joko Anwar. The movie is based on his short film made in 2012 with the same title. It stars
00:13Faradina Mufti, Reza Rahadian, Christine Hakim, and Slamet Raharjo. The movie became one of the
00:20biggest hits of 2024 in Indonesia and received the highest number of nominations at the Indonesian
00:25Film Festival, 17 in total, including Best Picture. The story begins with a brother and sister named
00:32Sita and Adel. They live a peaceful life with their parents who run a small bakery in their town.
00:39Everything seems normal until one tragic day changes their lives forever. Their parents die
00:45in a suicide bombing. The man who caused the explosion believed in a religious idea called
00:50Siksakubur, which means Grave Torture. He thought that if he killed himself for his faith, he could
00:56avoid eternal suffering after death. After this shocking event, Sita and Adel are taken by the
01:02police to a holding room. They are in shock, holding on tightly to a small mixtape they found.
01:07When someone later plays the tape, a chilling and strange sound comes from it. A haunting voice
01:13repeats the words Siksakubur, followed by horrifying screams and strange noises that sound like the cries
01:19of souls being tortured in the grave. From that moment, fear and curiosity about this mysterious
01:26phrase begin to haunt Sita's mind. After losing their parents, both children are sent to a boarding
01:31school. Adel tries his best to move on, but Sita cannot forget what happened. She becomes obsessed
01:38with the idea of grave torture, the belief that after a sinner dies, their soul is punished painfully
01:44inside the grave. Sita begins to think deeply about whether this belief is true or just a story
01:50created to scare people. She starts to believe that there is no such thing as grave torture and
01:57decides she will prove it to the world. As the years pass, Sita grows up, but the dark curiosity inside
02:04her never fades. She becomes an adult and starts working in a nursing home, taking care of elderly
02:09people. Even while working, she cannot stop thinking about death and what happens after it.
02:15She wants to prove that the idea of punishment after death is a myth, something made up by humans.
02:21So she begins to visit graveyards and old burial grounds, searching for clues about what really
02:27happens to people after they die. Sita spends her nights walking through cemeteries, talking to grave
02:33diggers, and even digging near graves. She focuses on graves of people who were known to be sinners,
02:38thieves, and murderers. She believes that if she can find nothing unusual there, she can finally prove
02:46that there is no such thing as grave torture. But as she goes deeper into her search, strange and
02:53horrifying things start to happen. She begins to see shadows moving between the tombstones. Some graves
02:59appear to be cursed, and she hears whispers calling her name. One night, she sees a hand rising slowly
03:05from the ground. At first, she thinks it's her imagination, but soon she witnesses even more
03:11terrifying sights. Dead bodies seem to show signs of pain. The corpses appear twisted and broken, as if
03:17they were tortured. She even sees snakes crawling into the mouths of the dead, a symbol of the souls
03:24being punished. Sita becomes more frightened each day, but her stubbornness keeps her going. She refuses to
03:31believe that what she sees is real. She tells herself that there must be a scientific reason
03:36behind everything. But the supernatural events become stronger. Lights flicker, the walls of the
03:42cemetery tremble, and she starts hearing voices crying for mercy from beneath the ground. The people
03:48around her begin to worry. Her brother Adil, who has grown up into a calm and faithful man, tries to
03:54stop her. He warns her not to go against faith and not to play with the world of the dead.
03:59But Sita ignores him. She believes she must complete her mission, no matter what. She says she wants to
04:05save people from fear by proving that grave torture is just a lie. As time goes on, Sita's mind becomes
04:11unstable. She cannot sleep. Every time she closes her eyes, she sees visions of sinners screaming inside
04:18their graves. She hears a whisper saying, you will know the truth soon. Her nightmares become reality.
04:25She starts seeing ghosts during the day, their faces twisted in pain, their eyes begging for help.
04:31Finally, she decides to face her biggest fear. There is one grave that everyone in town fears,
04:37the grave of a notorious sinner who was known for his evil deeds. People say that anyone who goes near
04:43that grave hears voices crying from the earth. Sita decides to enter that grave to see the truth
04:49with her own eyes. In the climax of the film, Sita digs open the grave at night, holding a flashlight
04:54and a camera to record proof. The deeper she goes, the colder the air becomes. Suddenly, the ground shakes
05:02and she falls inside the grave. Everything around her turns dark. She sees terrifying visions, souls
05:08screaming, bodies being ripped apart, and monsters made of fire and darkness attacking the damned.
05:14She realizes that this is not a dream. She has crossed into the world of the dead, the place
05:19of Siksikubur. She sees the sinner's soul being tortured endlessly. The spirits claw at her, begging
05:25for release. The smell of burning flesh fills the air. She tries to climb out, but invisible hands pull
05:31her back. At that moment, Sita finally understands that grave torture is real. All the things she thought
05:39were myths are true. The disbelief and arrogance she carried all her life turn into regret and
05:44horror. She screams, but no one hears her. The film's final scenes show Sita trapped in a dark and
05:51terrifying world. The souls of the damned surround her, crying and screaming. The ground is filled with
05:57bones and fire. Sita realizes she is now one of them, a lost soul punished for her disbelief. Her body
06:04fades away, leaving only her screams echoing in the darkness. Meanwhile, her brother Adil, played by
06:09Reza Rahadian, is shown living quietly. He continues to believe in faith and prayer. He visits his parents'
06:16graves and prays for his sister's soul, not knowing that she has already fallen into the world she once
06:21denied. The movie ends with a haunting sound, the same voice from the old mixtape whispering again,
06:27Siksa Kubur. The screen fades to black, leaving the audience shocked and speechless.
06:35Grave Torture is not just a horror movie about ghosts and punishment. It is a story about faith,
06:41disbelief, and the fear of what lies after death. It questions whether humans can ever truly escape
06:47their sins, and it shows what happens when curiosity goes too far. Sita's journey begins with a desire to
06:53prove that there is no afterlife punishment, but it ends with her becoming part of that very punishment.
06:59The film warns viewers that some truths are not meant to be challenged. It leaves us with a chilling
07:05message that faith may be the only thing standing between peace and eternal torment. The ending is
07:11powerful and tragic. It makes the audience think deeply about life, death, and the unknown world beyond
07:18the grave. The haunting visuals, the sound design, and the emotional acting make Grave Torture a truly
07:24unforgettable film that stays in the mind long after the credits roll.
