Carrie Bickmore named Victoria's 2026 Australian of the Year

Broadcaster and cancer fundraiser Carrie Bickmore was named the 2026 Australian of the Year for Victoria.

00:00The 2026 Australian of the Year for Victoria is Carrie Bickmore.

00:15When I heard about the nomination for this award, I found out through my manager and I said to him,

00:21oh, and I said, could you politely say thank you very much, but I absolutely don't want to.

00:26But because I feel like there's so many people, not only in the brain cancer space, but in the world that are doing incredible things.

00:35And it just made me deeply uncomfortable.

00:36And then he said to me, if you thought about what it might mean for the people at your foundation,

00:41the people at your brain cancer center, the chance to raise more money for everyone fighting cancer.

00:46And I thought, yeah, and I would be a coward if I didn't accept the nomination and accept it on their behalf.

00:53So, yeah, thanks to him for making me accept it.
