00:00Pour la première fois dans 40 ans,
00:28UNESCO brought its General Conference outside Paris
00:31and for the first time ever to Central Asia.
00:35Nearly 4,500 participants from around 190 countries
00:39and more than 500 media representatives
00:41gathered in Samarkand,
00:43turning the historic Silk Road city
00:46into a global center of cultural and policy debate.
00:50Samarkand's symbolism was central,
00:52a crossroads of civilizations
00:53where observatories, manuscripts and academies
00:57won set standards for the wider world.
01:00I'm really honored and privileged to be here
01:02and to see at least a part of this beautiful
01:05and historic place of Samarkand.
01:06I think it's a great experience
01:08and I hope that will remain so in the future,
01:11not only for Uzbekistan,
01:13but for the other countries as well.
01:14For Uzbekistan, hosting was both symbolic and strategic,
01:18a chance to show how heritage and reform
01:21can shape global conversation.
01:23Here in Samarkand,
01:24the conversation turned to how culture
01:26can still connect nations today.
01:29This city, shared by centuries of learning,
01:31offered a reminder that education and identity
01:34are inseparable,
01:35that investing in culture means investing in people.
01:38The discussions here carried that message forward
01:41that peace begins with knowledge
01:43and knowledge also begins with respect
01:45for one another's heritage.
01:47Uzbekistan set out a PACT agenda,
01:50a UNESCO platform for inclusive education,
01:53a pilot school of artificial intelligence,
01:55a global forum on AI ethics,
01:58an international institute for digital heritage,
02:01a UNESCO academy on women's leadership,
02:03an ecological capital label for cities,
02:06and a comprehensive media literacy strategy
02:09for young people.
02:10The foundation's principles are laid
02:13exactly in UNESCO's principles.
02:16It was very important for us
02:17to put Uzbekistan at the forefront
02:18of all of this initiative,
02:19especially as it was supported by our president
02:22and it was his initiative, you know,
02:23to bring the whole world
02:24and UNESCO conference here.
02:26We can see that Uzbekistan is everywhere now,
02:28you know, the whole world is here.
02:30UNESCO leaders called the choice of Samarkand
02:32a strategic one.
02:34We are here to discuss the main issues of the world
02:38regarding UNESCO's mandate.
02:40To prepare the future of UNESCO's mandate
02:43and to do it under the auspices of Uzbekistan
02:47in this region regarding its history,
02:50its geography,
02:51also the role it plays today in geopolitics
02:54is extremely satisfactory for us.
02:57This session also adopted new norms
03:00on AI and neurotechnology ethics
03:02and advanced programs
03:03for early childhood learning
03:05and museum innovation.
03:07This general conference
03:09is both a symbol
03:10and a proof of the value of multilateral action.
03:13It's not every day
03:14that 194 member states come together.
03:17Nobody can act alone.
03:19UNESCO's work is an ongoing work
03:21but what we expect is to recalibrate it
03:26and programs to meet the challenges
03:29of the present day.
03:31For Central Asia,
03:33hosting was the original milestone
03:34with joint heritage nominations
03:36and cultural cooperation on display.
03:40Kazakhstan supports Uzbekistan's leadership
03:42in this general conference.
03:43Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan
03:45have a number of joint nominations
03:47both in the World Heritage Programme
03:50and the Intangible Cultural Heritage Programme
03:52because indeed we share the same culture,
03:55we have the same roots.
03:57Member states aligned national priorities
03:59with global goals
04:00from early childhood access
04:02to digital safety.
04:05I think it's very important
04:06that we are gathered here in UNESCO now.
04:09We are finding common ground
04:10in addressing important issues
04:12like education for all
04:15and especially for girls
04:16who have not been able to get education
04:19and also the importance of culture
04:23and the media's freedom
04:24is so important in these demanding times.
04:27For others,
04:28Samarkand was also a diplomatic platform
04:30to link heritage with modern challenges.
04:34For us,
04:34it's a high priority,
04:36first of all,
04:36to take care of our culture
04:38and cultural heritage
04:39and to promote cooperation
04:41in the field of education.
04:44As resolutions from Samarkand
04:46and UNESCO's work cycle,
04:48attention now turns to delivery,
04:50translating commitments
04:51into curricula,
04:52cultural programs
04:53and city standards
04:54across the world.
