01:11Today I'm going to see a friend of mine that I've known for years and years, Mark.
01:26He's a real estate agent here on the Costa del Sol, Costa Blanca.
01:30He's actually doing a renovation project of his own.
01:35I've never done a renovation in Spain before and I feel like I just need some extra reassurance going into it that it's not going to be a big mistake.
01:46Hi, Mark.
01:47Hi, Jasmine. How are you?
01:49Wow, I'm good. This is your place there.
01:51Well, welcome to my building site.
01:55Gosh.
01:56It is getting there, trust me.
01:57It's a big project, isn't it?
01:59So we've had to change all the windows, the electricity, the plumbing, the floors, the walls.
02:05We've changed virtually everything inside.
02:07I like the tiles, by the way. Are they new or were they original?
02:10These are the original tiles.
02:11So we've managed to save those.
02:13Inside we've totally modernised it for modern living.
02:20Ooh, nice staircase.
02:23This is one of the features of the house I really liked.
02:26We're replacing all the spindles and obviously retiling all the floors.
02:30It's a very grand entrance hall.
02:32There were lots of things I really liked about Mark's property.
02:35I think he's got really good vision.
02:37Oh, this looks lovely.
02:39Oh, my God, it's huge.
02:41And I love the fact that whilst it was modern, it still had the feel of a traditional house.
02:50That's kind of what I want to replicate here.
02:53This was originally the living room.
02:56So we then decided to convert this into the kitchen.
03:00And this area here was actually not attached to the house.
03:04It was a separate laundry area.
03:05So we knocked that through.
03:07So it gave us this long dining area.
03:09I mean, this is a pretty epic kitchen diner.
03:12This is the room in the house, really.
03:14So this is, listen, I think we all spend so much time in the kitchen.
03:17Look at this, I mean, it's stunning.
03:19I do love a big island.
03:20I'm thinking about our house and how we could change the layout and incorporate having a nice big island, because I do like that.
03:30But I'm not sure how we'll be able to do it.
03:32Did you have a contractor to do everything for you or have you gone to different people?
03:38No, to different people.
03:39And then project managed it myself rather than going to one company and just getting one company to do it.
03:44And because I was living here, I think it worked well.
03:45You were living here as well.
03:46Oh, OK, I was going to ask, because how has that been?
03:50Dusty.
03:54Yeah, the dust never disappears.
03:56But I think the great thing with living in it, you see things changing every day.
03:59Yeah, it's rewarding to see it.
04:00And then you get other ideas as well by living in it.
04:03True, yeah.
04:04I suppose the fact that Mark has been living in the house whilst renovating and with the family is quite reassuring, because, well, if he can do it, then we can do it.
04:15As long as the end result looks as sparkling as this, then I'll be happy.
04:22I mean, this is absolutely gorgeous.
04:26Seeing Mark today was brilliant, actually, and seeing the house even more so.
04:31So, one thing that Mark said that I really took on board was about living in the renovation, that it's going to be dusty, but it's going to be worth it in the end.
04:53Brimming with confidence, Jasmine and her family head to their house together for the first time as its proud new owners.
05:01Here we go, then.
05:02First time we are visiting our new house as a family.
05:10Hello.
05:15Sneaks.
05:17The place is in such a state that they are yet to move in.
05:21Instead, they're staying in a nearby holiday let that's quickly draining their renovation budget.
05:27Hello.
05:27Instra's come to say hello.
05:33Seeing this house empty, you can see how much potential there is here.
05:43Therefore, will you step?
05:45Walking around, it seems like there's a lot of things that need to be the first priority,
05:48like this garage door, for example, just to make that secure.
05:53Check.
05:53Hot water, plumbing, electrics, painting, cleaning.
05:58And then we just have to move in because we do not have the luxury of time to plan everything right now.
06:06We just need somewhere to live.
06:08See, that's the guy I'm painting these two of you at.
06:10God, it's invisible paint.
06:12Yay!
06:13Invisible paint, kids.
06:14Number one priority before we move in is that it's got to be safe.
06:26So I'm just currently picking up all the broken glass from the garden
06:30and then going to pick up all the dog poop from the garden.
06:36Very glamorous job.
06:42There was a lot of poo in the garden when we moved into the house.
06:47There was a lot of dog eggs.
06:51It's absolutely minging.
06:55This is not my favourite job.
06:58Everything that we move underneath it is full of ants or cockroaches.
07:06It's got to be done.
07:14Over the next couple of weeks, Jasmine and John continue phase one of their build,
07:19doing temporary work to make the place livable so they can move in and start the full renovation.
07:25I feel so frustrated right now because there's so much to do and it sort of feels a bit overwhelming.
07:33I just want to get in here.
07:35I can't wait.
07:37The temporary holiday let where they're living has cost just under £3,000 for a month,
07:42an expense Jasmine and John could do without.
07:47Unfortunately, we don't have unlimited funds
07:50and we can't afford to rent somewhere else the whole time that we're renovating this house.
07:56So we just need to make it comfortable.
07:59Then we can move in and we can do the renovation bit by bit.
08:03It might seem a bit strange or not make much sense to do the work that we're doing now
08:10in order to move into the house before we start the full-on renovation.
08:13I don't want to move into somewhere that's just a dump where the toilets don't flush,
08:19the windows don't open, nothing works.
08:22With the whole family pitching in, the interior whitewashing is well underway.
08:30So John's heading outside to team up with a couple of local builders Jasmine has brought in.
08:35Today we're trying to make the insides of the roof terraces
08:41and make a start on the front of the house looking less like an unloved house
08:46and a little bit more like a loved house.
08:47We're also very mindful that the weather has been pretty bad and pretty wet of late
08:50so we're keen just to seal it and make sure it's all OK and doesn't get any worse.
08:55Even getting the house to a level to make it livable,
08:58we've realised it's a bit too overwhelming for Jazz and I even with our work schedules.
09:03So we've got the lovely Carlos and Martin who are here helping us decorate.
09:09The one biggest test is trying to communicate.
09:13I was just trying to work out my Spanish for where am I starting
09:15or where do you want me to start.
09:18I don't even know the Spanish for broches.
09:20Hang on a minute, I'm going for broche.
09:21Carlos speaks little to no English.
09:34In fact, I'm going to go as far as to say he speaks no English.
09:36But that's not his fault, I'm the one living in Spain.
09:39Broche.
09:40Broche.
09:40Well, broche.
09:41Broche.
09:42Correctamente.
09:42Broche.
09:43Perfecto.
09:44Gracias.
09:44A ti, John.
09:45I think I understood.
09:49Somehow, Carlos came into my life and he has been amazing.
09:55He's been brilliant.
09:56He's so can do.
09:58Me llamo Carlos, hermano.
10:56Muy bien.
10:58No pasa nada.
10:59No pasa nada.
11:00Gracias.
11:04Now I really am like Carlos' is high of help.
11:07My role in the renovation is kind of grafting.
11:23I'm very happy to be a hard grafter.
11:25And just, you know, move things around, get stuff done on a day-to-day basis.
11:34John, aquí falta un poquito.
11:36No pasa nada.
11:39Ok, sí, sí.
11:42Lo siento, Carlos.
11:42No, no, no, no.
12:13But I guess that's what happens when you get two lelons painting.
12:20At least for them it sort of makes them feel invested that this is, you know, going to be our new home.
12:28Over the next few days, the place is transformed.
12:33We've done the bare essentials, the absolute basics,
12:38to make it as comfortable as it possibly can be for us to live in.
12:45What's this saying about polishing a turd?
12:50Although, you know, a turd with loads of potential.
12:53Three weeks in and eager to leave the costly holiday let behind,
13:11Jasmine and John have focused on making the house they've bought just about livable,
13:16so they can finally turn their attention to creating something truly special.
13:20This is the basement of the house.
13:24This is the room that I want to make fun for the kids.
13:27I am a bit of a big kid and I kind of want to live vicariously through my kids,
13:32so, yeah, we want a cinema room.
13:34I say we, I.
13:36And ultimately, this is probably the room we least need to live in this house,
13:40but it would be the room I'd quite like to finish first.
13:42So, the kids are on board with the house by having a great playroom,
13:46but let's see, I'm fairly sure jazz doesn't agree.
13:52Down here, I would have a dance studio and a karaoke machine,
14:00maybe something like ping-pong or pool or...
14:03I mean, I'm quite partial to a bit of air hockey, undefeated.
14:09It'd be nice to have a relaxation area.
14:12Yeah, I don't know, there are so many options.
14:15We have to decide.
14:18There is one space upstairs where they are in clear agreement.
14:22This is the living area, so jazz is keen that this is the room we prioritise getting right.
14:30So, our plan is to get rid of this wall to make it a slightly more open plan
14:35between the kitchen and the living area, and then, I think, long, long term,
14:39eventually, I think we'll open it all up.
14:41So, this wall will come down, there's not much there,
14:44and then, I think, eventually, get a steal across here,
14:47take this section of wall out, so we have, like, bifolds,
14:51make this terrace a little bit more usable, a bit more indoor-outdoor.
14:57Looking for inspiration for that open plan space,
15:00Jasmine has arranged a visit to a rather special local property.
15:05Ooh!
15:07This is good.
15:08This looks nice.
15:11I like the roof tiles.
15:13Yeah, I like that little tower there.
15:15I'm not adding a tower to it.
15:16I know.
15:17Casa Mil Flores, the house of a thousand flowers,
15:22may look modest from the front, but step inside,
15:25and it unfolds with six bedrooms,
15:28an open plan living space,
15:30and a stunning pool of views stretching down to the sea.
15:36Ah-ha!
15:38Nice.
15:38That is nice, isn't it?
15:39Look at that view.
15:41Yeah, stunning.
15:42It's beautiful.
15:44Looking around, I like the open plan layout.
15:46I think we want to get a bit of that open plan feeling going on with ours,
15:51but the kitchen, for me, is a bit too contemporary.
15:56But also the island.
15:58Mmm!
16:00The sort of dining table island.
16:02It's not just a breakfast bar, is it?
16:03It makes you realise that we do need to open ours up.
16:06And even though they've kept these structural pillars,
16:09which we will have even if we take out all the walls,
16:12it still feels very open and lovely, doesn't it?
16:19Oh, this is quite nice, isn't it?
16:22I like these brushed gold fittings.
16:26It's really nice.
16:27It's nice.
16:28It's very simple, but very nice.
16:30They've got the gold fittings in every bathroom.
16:33Yeah.
16:34And it works.
16:35The property was amazing.
16:37It was stunning.
16:37I think the location was great, the views were great.
16:40Oh, look at this.
16:42It's a lovely, light bedroom, isn't it?
16:45And the fact that it had been renovated head to toe really helped.
16:49It was amazing.
16:50You know what I like in here and what I think our bedroom might be missing
16:53is just bigger windows.
16:56Or even the window that is there, just making it much bigger,
17:00even if you had, like, a little Juliet balcony.
17:02I think as we looked around the house,
17:04it kind of cemented the fact that there were certain elements
17:06that Jazz and I agreed on.
17:08I couldn't even do that thing where you were...
17:10So it was kind of reassuring to know that our path into our own house
17:17may be lined with agreement most of the time.
17:20Oh, a pool with water in it.
17:26I like the arches out here.
17:29And I like the fact that the continuation of the floor tiles inside
17:34carries on out here.
17:35Whatever we tile the floor in the games room, in the basement,
17:39you just follow that out.
17:41Continue that out.
17:41Yeah, that's a great idea.
17:43This looks very slick and contemporary and beautiful, and I love it.
17:49And there are elements of this that I would love to take away and replicate.
17:54But I've got to say, I know this is obviously a much more expensive house
17:58than our house, but I still prefer ours.
18:01Yeah, I mean, I think I'll prefer ours once it's done.
18:07On the market for nearly £2 million, there's a lot to like there.
18:12But with champagne taste comes the need to keep the income flowing,
18:16so Jasmine's off to film another episode of A Place in the Sun.
18:25While John is left to crack on with fulfilling the vision,
18:29well, at least making a start on Jasmine's list.
18:32I've never felt such a crusty bit of material in a while.
18:37It's very smelly.
18:39And it's very manky.
18:44Over the years, I'd say John's had one or two DIY disasters,
18:49but he's getting better, thankfully,
18:52because there's going to be a lot of DIY to do here.
18:54Sometimes he just ploughs into something.
19:00He's not a person who can sit down and think things through.
19:03He's like, I've got to take action now, this minute.
19:10And so he'll start something and then think,
19:13I haven't actually got everything I need to be able to finish it.
19:17So sometimes it does get half a job done.
19:23Like I remember when we bought our first flat
19:26and we were painting the woodwork
19:28and instead of protecting all the carpets
19:31whilst we were painting the skirting boards,
19:34he just slapped on the paint and then said,
19:35I'll just get it off the carpets afterwards.
19:37And I was like, why?
19:38Why have you done that?
19:40He got sandpaper afterwards and sanded the paint,
19:45the dry paint, off the carpets.
19:49My DIY is OK.
19:50I'm kind of hoping this house will make it better.
19:57Today's plan amongst the list,
19:59or the growing list of many things to do,
20:01one of them is to jet wash some of the roof tiles.
20:06Some of the tiles are just black
20:09and we're hoping that a jet wash
20:10might save us a few quid on new tiles.
20:14Nice box, fresh hose.
20:16Knowing my DIY skills,
20:18I'll probably cut straight through the middle of it.
20:20I don't have a lot of logic as it's transpiring,
20:23so my logic is work out how to get the jet wash working
20:28on one of the roof terraces,
20:30lean over and start jet washing some of the tiles.
20:33Do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do.
20:39Water goes on roof.
20:40A. Does the water clean the tiles.
20:43B. Does the water come through the ceiling.
20:45That's basically it.
20:48Great.
20:50There's always a big decision to be made
20:52in the world of jet washing,
20:53which nozzle you choose.
20:55Never really sure the difference.
20:57I've gone for that one let's see if it works
21:03oh
21:04part of my language
21:10oh there you go that's actually better
21:12no it's not
21:13I wonder if it's the water pressure
21:15I'm changing nozzles
21:22oh yeah that's better
21:26here we go
21:27oh yeah I mean how satisfying is this going to be
21:31if we don't destroy the pile in the process
21:35but within minutes of getting going
21:39oh
21:41oh
21:46oh god that's water upstairs
21:53okay
21:55okay
21:57Aquí está mal puesto, aquí está mal puesto.
22:01Sí, sí.
22:04Yo creo que ya...
22:06Bien.
22:06Yo creo que ya...
22:07An actual, someone who knows what they're doing is involved.
22:11No, perfecto, gracias, Henry.
22:14I didn't connect the hose properly, so quite a lot of water was spilling onto the tiles,
22:20and Henry is currently trying to angle, grind the grout out from between the tiles.
22:27So he didn't want water up here, and I was putting water up here.
22:33Gracias.
22:36Disaster averted.
22:38Now there's crack on.
22:43When you see how long it takes to do one tile,
22:46the reality of how many tiles there are on this house suddenly kicks in.
22:52And within a few tiles' time, Henry steps in again.
22:57¿Qué es... qué es... qué es chemical? No.
23:13El químico es hipoclorito, o sea, un producto, producto.
23:18Sí.
23:19Entonces te lo hecha con un rodillo.
23:23¿Y después lo lava?
23:24Oh, no.
23:25Sí, después.
23:26After.
23:27Ok.
23:29Bien.
23:30Ok.
23:30Gracias.
23:31So I think it's safe to say, I've tested the theory,
23:40and whilst the theory is that jet washing works,
23:43our local builders suggested cleaning it with chemicals and then jet washing at the end.
23:48So I'm going to take the advice and leave it for now.
23:52Fairly successful.
23:57Given how many tiles there are on the roof,
23:58I'd say I've done about one-fifteenth,
24:00which is typical me.
24:02Don't quite finish the job,
24:04so I can't wait to get the chemicals and get the roof cleaned up.
24:09Time to move on to something else from Jaz's list.
24:11There's just a week until they plan to move in.
24:26Jazmine's been away, presenting an episode of A Place in the Sun,
24:30while John's been working through a list of jobs.
24:33Before heading off on a trip of his own,
24:36he's squeezing in a task that wasn't necessarily down for this week.
24:41The big job today is to take down the wall that separates the kitchen from the living area,
24:46just so that when we're living here,
24:48it's a bit more open plan for the kids.
24:51And because my DIY skills are still a bit sketchy,
24:55our Spanish builders Henri and Carlos are here to help me,
24:58to make sure the ceiling doesn't fall down.
25:03I mean, the worst that could happen today is the ceiling comes down with the wall.
25:07But we have checked with an architect,
25:09and the bit of the wall we're taking out is not load-bearing.
25:11So in theory, it's fine.
25:13You know, in this house of this era in Spain,
25:16even the non-load-bearing walls are pretty meaty.
25:19I am very apprehensive.
25:23I question everything.
25:25Even last night I was driving thinking,
25:27God, do we need to have that wall out?
25:29Do we need to have the wall out?
25:30We could just keep the window so it's fun for the kids to pass food through.
25:34But I've turned up this morning,
25:36they've started to angle-grind the lines.
25:37I need to crack on with this wall,
25:42and there's a very high chance in our fashion we'll be ships in the night,
25:45so I may leave,
25:47and she may come back with a half-knocked-down wall that she has to finish off.
25:51Or she has to sign off.
25:55Or she has to cry about, but we'll see.
26:02Let's get on with it.
26:03Hammer it down.
26:05Jack, hammer it out.
26:07What can go wrong?
26:14I mean, I've barely ever seen a jackhammer in my life,
26:19let alone used one.
26:21When you get jackhammers out,
26:35there is no turning back.
26:36This is it.
26:37There's dust, there's mess.
26:39We're in it for the long haul.
26:44It's like breaking through the channel tunnel.
26:46I can see the kitchen.
26:49There's a hole.
26:51The window is out.
26:57Van Gogh's only dreams of the kids of passing food through the window.
27:00All I can think about is all the builders watching me thinking,
27:12what is this guy doing?
27:13I think I'm not quick enough.
27:25I think he's used to working quicker.
27:27OK, then, let's do this.
27:34Last PTC of the day.
27:36While John continues having fun,
27:39Jasmine's morning's a little more glamorous.
27:42OK, everyone happy?
27:43Happy.
27:43One, two, and action.
27:46What a fantastic result for my house hunters.
27:48I am so thrilled to have been able to help them find their dream place in the sun.
27:56Good?
27:56Yeah, good.
27:57It's a wreck.
27:58Thank you, guys.
28:05Back at the house.
28:08The wall is very nearly down, which is good.
28:10But it was, in this heat, much harder work than I was imagining.
28:19I've actually had a missed call from Dad, so I'm just going to give her a call back.
28:24Come on, surely everyone does this when you're wearing gloves, right?
28:26Use their nose.
28:27It was the wall through to the bedroom that you wanted knocking down, wasn't it?
28:42What?
28:43So it was the wall through to the bedroom that you wanted knocking down.
28:48No, not really.
28:50Just joking.
28:51Anyway.
28:53All right, I'll speak to you later.
28:56Love you.
28:56Bye, love you, bye.
29:02It's good.
29:04Mission semi-accomplished.
29:06We started out to knock down the wall, and we have made a massive hole in the wall.
29:11It does feel like the renovation has begun.
29:13There's only so many painting walls and cleaning stuff you can do.
29:18For my first ever wall demolition, I enjoyed it.
29:21Not sure I'd want to take it out for a living.
29:24Currently, it doesn't look like it's going to be ready for us to move into in a week.
29:27But in a week, we need to move in.
29:31John's now off on a shoot and won't be back until after they move in.
29:36Goodbye, house.
29:36See you when the wall's tidied up.
29:3820 minutes later, Jasmine's back and ready to take hold of the reins.
29:49I was hoping I might catch John before he had to go, but I think we've just missed each other.
29:58He said he's done the awnings.
29:59I'm not quite sure what he's done to them.
30:02Tied them up with string and ripped off the fabric.
30:10Maybe not a top priority.
30:11John said he was going to clean these roof tiles.
30:21I hope that's not the finished job.
30:24Because, um, in fact, just that little one section.
30:30He's just done that little section.
30:32And even these don't look very clean.
30:34How do I get through?
30:42I can't get in this way.
30:44Maybe I'll go through the kitchen.
30:47Oh, I don't know if I can get in this way either.
30:49Oh, my word.
31:03That's going to be much better once it's done.
31:10It's going to make such a difference just having more light going through to that kitchen.
31:16Definitely no going back now, is there?
31:19I wonder if they need some help to clear all this up.
31:26I need some gloves.
31:28I need to get changed.
31:30Yeah.
31:32I probably need one of these hats as well.
31:45I wonder how many bags this is going to take.
31:49I've done one bag.
31:55I'm sweating already.
31:56I know.
32:03Hola.
32:06Cuidado, cuidado.
32:07With Henri returning from his siesta, it seems Jasmine has started cleaning up a touch too soon.
32:13No puedo. Es muy pesado para mí.
32:22Hay más walla que retirar.
32:24Mejor, mejor.
32:26Oh, he visto.
32:28No sé cómo he estado roped en esto.
32:31Creo que dijo que quería hacer este punto de abajo.
32:35Así que voy a darlo.
32:43I can't breathe.
32:56I'm sweating so much.
33:00This is too hard.
33:11I'm just going to stick.
33:13It's picking up the rubble.
33:18This house is the first time I've done any sort of demolition of anything.
33:24When you go in with your power tools and knock something down,
33:29it's kind of like therapy.
33:31You know, you could do anger management courses with demolishing walls.
33:34Now, looking at this, just a really lovely, spacious room with a nice flow.
33:44I think this house has got such a nice energy already.
33:52I think there's so much we can do to improve it.
33:54So, it is exciting.
34:00What I'm most excited about at this stage is just getting it livable and being able to move in here next week.
34:08Because then I just, I feel like I can breathe and I can relax.
34:13With just days to go and John away from work, Jasmine's on her own.
34:29But with the help of Carlos and his team, the removal of the kitchen wall is complete and the house is ready for them to move in.
34:37Allowing Jasmine to shift her focus to the full renovation.
34:40We've decided to upcycle all the doors, pretty much in the whole house, cupboards and room doors,
34:49because they're quite good doors.
34:52They're solid wood doors.
34:54And it seems massively wasteful to just throw them all away when we could give them a little makeover
35:01and they'll be completely transformed.
35:03Quite a tricky one to sand because, because it's got so many little grooves and ridges
35:20and you need to make sure you get shine off the whole thing.
35:25We're a great team, me and Carlos.
35:37We work well together because I can do the high up parts and he can do the low down parts.
35:45Right, he's leaving me to it now.
35:48If he trusts me, so hopefully nothing too bad can go wrong.
35:55Famous last words.
35:58The door frames take some effort, but down in the basement,
36:03Carlos has the kit to make light work of painting the doors.
36:11I mean, we are so lucky to have this space like this,
36:16where we can actually do all this messy work without being in the house.
36:23Hopefully quite soon, this will be part of the house.
36:31Ah, see.
36:33That's one side of one door done.
36:38One coat.
36:39That's probably about one hundredth of the work that needs to be done
36:44to get all the doors in the house done.
36:47So, I think I'm going to get quite good at this.
36:51And on top of all the physical challenges of a renovation project,
36:55the usually pleasant Mediterranean climate has been causing some serious disruption.
37:01The weather here over the last week has been unbelievable.
37:05It's been unbelievable.
37:08Created by a weather phenomenon that happens roughly every 20 years in Spain,
37:13it's caused devastation.
37:15I think they've had, like, a year's worth of rain that fell in a few hours.
37:21Oh, my God.
37:23Look at this.
37:24And this is what's outside.
37:34Not much space between the top level of that water and the level of this window.
37:40So, I'm not really sure what to do.
37:44There have been some awful floods in other parts of Spain.
37:47It's been horrific.
37:49At one point, the schools were closed.
37:52All of the, sort of, municipal buildings were closed.
37:54People were being advised to stay in the house.
38:05However, the house has survived.
38:08And the extreme weather passed just in time for the family, minus John, to move in.
38:13It's still a long way from Jasmine's end vision, but the place has gone from feeling dark and unloved
38:31to being fresh and, most importantly, habitable.
38:36No more holiday lets.
38:38It's finally time to start living in their own Spanish home.
38:41I am very excited.
38:44Although, I was hoping, you know, we'd have things a little bit more progressed than we do.
38:50Honestly, in the month since we bought the house, since we completed, it's completely transformed already.
38:58There is still an absolute shed load of stuff to do, but we can move in and we can live here.
39:10We might be slightly camping, but whatever.
39:14I mean, is this for the fireplace or for the toilet?
39:18Because it could potentially be the fanciest toilet brush I've ever seen.
39:24But I don't think I'm going to keep it.
39:26John is away in the States, so I'm here with the kids.
39:31They're busy playing downstairs.
39:33But I'm basically going to be moving all the last bits in and we'll be able to start settling and unpacking.
39:39And hopefully, John will be back at some point.
39:51Albie!
39:53Come!
39:56Moving in with the children, it felt just like being at home straight away.
40:02Want to help me make the bed?
40:04No, no, no, no, no.
40:05No, no, no, no, no, no.
40:05Please don't jump on the bed.
40:08Pest.
40:09The kids were no help at all with making the bed.
40:15It's hard, isn't it?
40:17Oh, gosh!
40:20I'll get you the mattress.
40:21It's so nice.
40:23They were just hyperactive, hysterical.
40:29Get off!
40:31Get off my stroke!
40:35The heart and soul of this house is really lovely.
40:46With John now on his way back to the Costa del Sol, the light's fading on the first night in their new Spanish home.
40:53Kids, what do you want for dinner?
40:59Pizza.
41:00Noodles, pizza.
41:02OK.
41:04My culinary skills are amazing.
41:07No, I mean, I'm OK.
41:08I'm a good cook most of the time.
41:10Thank you.
41:18All right, noodles.
41:23This is going to be interesting.
41:29Our first meal here was memorable
41:32for all the wrong reasons
41:34Oh joy, I burned your pizza
41:36I put the oven on maximum
41:40because I was trying to burn off the new smell
41:42I'm going to blame the oven
41:44it was a brand new oven
41:45it must have been something wrong with it
41:59Sorry, why don't I just cut it
42:00and you just eat it down to the bit that you want to eat
42:03I was so distracted
42:05and I was so disorganised
42:08and I had so many things going on in my head
42:10Why didn't this turn down?
42:18Come on
42:19I can't get it to work
42:21Oh there we go
42:21Oh my god
42:24Where's all my stuff?
42:26Look, my
42:27random noodles in a frying pan
42:30I should have got a takeaway
42:34My poor kids
42:37It's not the best
42:38First night in their new house dinner
42:41Oh, and I've burnt the pizza
42:44Got it?
42:51Yes
42:52It's very hot
42:53Joy, I'm sorry about your pizza
42:55Here's to our first supper
43:00How's the food, guys?
43:02Good
43:03It's good for a bird pizza
43:05You're so kind
43:08Sorry
43:12It's been a long time coming
43:17Us moving in here
43:18And I've just been feeling really unsettled
43:22You know, just wanting to be in my own house
43:26And so it's turned into this really big deal
43:30In my head
43:31Where I just wanted to get in here
43:33And now we're finally in here
43:34And I just want to get it nice
43:36And I just wanted
43:36I know there's so much to do before it will be ready
43:39But honestly
43:40Just even in this state
43:43I'm so happy to finally be in our own house
43:48It just feels already like home
43:51It's been a long day
44:00But I decided I had to wait up
44:03Until John got home
44:05So that we could share a glass of bubbles
44:08Cheers
44:10Our first night in that house
44:13Our first night
44:14You know, our shell
44:17Our first night in that house
44:19Our shell
44:22Now the real work begins
44:35Just ripping it apart with my bare hands
44:38But I am planning to run this year's London Marathon
44:42To raise money for the Institute for Cancer, he said
44:44I'm currently in hospital waiting for the prognosis
44:50He's going to be out of action for everything
44:53Thank you for coming
44:55My mum is just a lifesaver
45:08I am just getting ready to pass
45:10My mum is just a favor
45:11I am just going to be out of action with me
45:12accrypted
45:13I want to have a star
45:14I don't know
45:15I am just going to be out of action
45:16Thank you
45:17That lets me go
45:17I am just a back
45:22Gracias por ver el video.
