Two men have been fined RM5,000 each by the Magistrate’s Court in Ipoh for impersonating police officers and demanding money from two individuals in Taman Ipoh Timur Baru on Nov 1.

00:00The Ipoh Magistrates Court slapped two individuals with a 5,000 ringgit fine each
00:08for impersonating police officers and demanding money from the public.
00:1324-year-old Wang Junwei and 40-year-old Lim Boon Ping pleaded guilty to the charges.
00:19The duo committed the offence in front of a restaurant in Taman, Ipoh, Timur Baru,
00:23at about 12.38 a.m. last Saturday.
00:26They deceived two individuals aged 15 and 17 and demanded money from them
00:31in exchange for not issuing a traffic summons to them.
00:34A video of the incident went viral on social media last week.
00:46The prosecution said the two accused had worn outfits resembling that of the police
00:51and even carried walkie-talkies.
00:53They said one of the victims transferred 400 ringgit after being told they could be fined 900 ringgit
01:00for modifying their motorcycle.
01:02The accused expressed remorse and appealed for a lighter sentence.
01:06The court eventually imposed a 5,000 ringgit fine on them, in default 12 months jail.
01:12Wang also pleaded guilty to a charge framed under Section 89 of the Police Act,
01:17and he was fined 2,000 ringgit in default 5 months imprisonment.
