00:00Today, November 3rd, the Church celebrates Saint Hubert of LiĂšge, an 8th-century bishop.
00:09known throughout Europe as the patron saint of hunters, foresters and all those who live off nature.
00:17His legend, passed down through the centuries, tells of a man transformed by a mystical encounter in the heart of the forest.
00:24that of Christ himself, in the form of a luminous stag.
00:28Hubert was born around 655 into a noble family in Aquitaine.
00:35He grew up at the court of the Merovingian kings where he led a life of luxury and pleasure.
00:41An excellent horseman and passionate hunter, he spends his days pursuing game in the Ardennes forests.
00:48gradually forgetting God and prayer.
00:51But everything changes on Good Friday, when he is hunting alone in the forest,
00:55indifferent to the Passion of Christ celebrated on that day.
01:01Before him appeared a stag of unparalleled majesty.
01:05A luminous cross appears between its branches.
01:09The deer stares at him intently.
01:12And Hubert hears a voice that tells him,
01:13"Hubert, how long will you chase beasts in the forests, forgetting your Creator?"
01:21"Repent, and the Lord will grant you eternal life."
01:27Overwhelmed by this vision, Hubert dismounts, kneels, and weeps.
01:33He sheds his hunting clothes and renounces his former life.
01:37Shortly afterwards, he retired to Maastricht.
01:41where he became a disciple of Saint Lambert, a zealous bishop and holy pastor.
01:47After Lambert's martyrdom,
01:49Hubert succeeded him as bishop of Maastricht, then of LiĂšge.
01:53He then revealed himself to be a man of peace and prayer.
01:56tirelessly traversing his diocese to convert the pagans,
02:00to help the poor and care for the sick.
02:02It is said that he had the gift of miracles.
02:07He healed the wounded, calmed wild beasts
02:10and protected men from the bites of rabid dogs.
02:15His cult spread throughout medieval Europe.
02:19The hunters invoked his name before heading into the forest.
02:21and the keys of Saint Hubert, small pieces of blessed iron,
02:26They were used to treat animal bites.

02:35and his body is transferred to Andage.
02:37which would later be known as Saint Hubert in Belgium
02:40where a majestic shrine is dedicated to him.
02:45Saint Hubert embodies the conversion of the heart.
02:49It reminds us that even the most intense passions
02:51can become paths to God,
02:53if we bring the light of faith to it.
