00:00:01Harry Potter Wizards of Baking has returned!
00:00:06Every year, millions of Potter fans journey to Leavesden
00:00:10to walk amongst the breathtaking original sets.
00:00:14But eager muggles aren't the studio's only visitors
00:00:17because we've invited the world's finest bakers here, too!
00:00:22Oh! That's cool.
00:00:23What in the world? Do you need a hand?
00:00:26This seat, eight brand new teams
00:00:29will take part in the most extraordinary competition
00:00:34for the coveted Wizards of Baking Cup.
00:00:37You can't come to Hogwarts and not do magic.
00:00:39They'll conjure up all sorts of spellbinding sweet creations
00:00:46inspired by the world of Harry Potter.
00:00:53Then they'll present them to our formidable ministers of baking,
00:00:57a Top Chef All-Star whose very mantra is to cook with love,
00:01:01Chef Carla Hall, and an acclaimed chef who has worked
00:01:05in Michelin star kitchens around the world,
00:01:08Chef Joseph Youssef!
00:01:10Yes! Yes!
00:01:12As well as some very special guests.
00:01:15This is what I've waited 20 years for.
00:01:17Guiding us are two chaps who are no strangers to Hogwarts.
00:01:21Fred and George Weasley themselves.
00:01:23Ready Fred, ready George.
00:01:25James and Oliver Phelps.
00:01:27Well, isn't the Flu Network amazing?
00:01:30So let the magic and the baking begin!
00:01:35Oh, my God!
00:01:51Oh, my God, we are literally in the Great Hall.
00:02:01This is like a dream come true.
00:02:03I am a huge fan of the books and the movies.
00:02:05Oh, my God! Oh, my God!
00:02:07I can't believe it, we are here.
00:02:09Look, look, look!
00:02:11Whoa!
00:02:12I don't even know where to look.
00:02:14Dude, the trophy has Jordan and Zoe's name on it.
00:02:16No way!
00:02:24Okay, now. Playing cool.
00:02:27Attention bankers!
00:02:31Come on, come down, come down!
00:02:33Come down, come down!
00:02:34When James and Oliver Phelps,
00:02:36the Weasley twins themselves came in,
00:02:38they snuck in so quiet for such tall boys.
00:02:40We couldn't hear them.
00:02:41I don't think I'm normally a very star-struck person,
00:02:44but I kind of felt a bit star-struck.
00:02:47They're like Harry Potter royalty.
00:02:49You've made it!
00:02:51Welcome to Wizards of Baking Chapter Two!
00:02:58And a competition grander than even the Quidditch World Cup.
00:03:02I'm James.
00:03:03And I'm Oliver.
00:03:04And if you can't tell us apart,
00:03:06just think I'm the handsome one.
00:03:09So, of course, this is the Great Hall,
00:03:12and it's been the scene of some truly unforgettable moments
00:03:16for you all.
00:03:19Dumbledore's iconic speeches.
00:03:21Welcome, welcome to another year at Hogwarts.
00:03:25And most impressive of all,
00:03:27Fred and George's firework display.
00:03:29And you are!
00:03:31Whoo!
00:03:32Whoo!
00:03:43If the Harry Potter stories taught us anything,
00:03:46it's that success is rarely achieved alone.
00:03:49It requires teamwork, cooperation,
00:03:52and normally, Hermione telling everyone what to do.
00:03:55Naturally.
00:03:56So, for this competition,
00:03:58you've been placed into pairs
00:04:00based on your complementary skills.
00:04:02So, you ready to get started?
00:04:04Yes!
00:04:05Good, because it's time for your first challenge.
00:04:07Each team will be assigned a Hogwarts house
00:04:11to use as the inspiration for your first showpiece.
00:04:15Now, there are eight teams, but only four houses.
00:04:20That means that you'll be facing off
00:04:23in four head-to-head duels.
00:04:26What?
00:04:27The winning team in each duel
00:04:29will live to bake another day.
00:04:31The losing team could be heading home
00:04:34before the fat lady sings.
00:04:36But which houses will you get?
00:04:40Jenny and Alex?
00:04:41Heather and Kate?
00:04:42Could you step forward?
00:04:43Oh, my goodness.
00:04:47So, it wouldn't feel right for us
00:04:49to assign you guys a house.
00:04:51So, we asked a special friend
00:04:53to do the honours.
00:04:54The suspense is killing me.
00:04:56Mmm.
00:04:57Difficult.
00:04:58Very difficult.
00:05:00Plenty of courage, I see.
00:05:02Oh, my gosh.
00:05:03It's the sorting hap...
00:05:04I think the sorting ceremony is so epic
00:05:07because it's one of the first things that happens
00:05:09when the students get to Hogwarts,
00:05:10and it's the first thing that's happening
00:05:12to us here in the competition,
00:05:13and so it really feels like...
00:05:15like our entrance into the Harry Potter world.
00:05:17There's talent.
00:05:19Oh, yes.
00:05:20But where to put you?
00:05:23Not Slytherin.
00:05:24Let it be...
00:05:25Gryffindor!
00:05:27Hey.
00:05:29So, Gryffindor students are known for their courage,
00:05:34bravery, and determination.
00:05:37So, do keep that in mind.
00:05:39Okay.
00:05:40Okay.
00:05:41But before we head off to the kitchen,
00:05:42here are a few rules.
00:05:43The showpieces need to include
00:05:45a mouth-watering tasting element,
00:05:48and they also need to feature one effect,
00:05:51and that has to be inspired
00:05:53by the element that your house is famous for.
00:05:56For Gryffindor, that is, of course,
00:05:59fire!
00:06:01Yeah, yeah.
00:06:02That's gonna be so cool.
00:06:03And in six hours,
00:06:04you're gonna bring your creations back here
00:06:06to be judged.
00:06:07Yes.
00:06:08Good luck.
00:06:09And...
00:06:10I've been waiting ages to say this.
00:06:11Let the baking begin!
00:06:13Woo!
00:06:14Oh, my goodness.
00:06:19Oh, my goodness.
00:06:22This is so cool.
00:06:46Do you see?
00:06:47Oh, it's already here.
00:06:48I know.
00:06:49Look at that.
00:06:50Look!
00:06:51Oh!
00:06:52This is nice.
00:06:53Oh, my God.
00:06:54Oh, my God.
00:06:55Whoa.
00:06:56It's a dream.
00:06:57Oh, my God.
00:06:58I can't believe it.
00:06:59It does.
00:07:00Oh, okay.
00:07:01Come down.
00:07:02Okay.
00:07:03Okay.
00:07:04Okay.
00:07:05Okay.
00:07:06Okay.
00:07:07When you think Gryffindor,
00:07:08what are you thinking?
00:07:09Courage.
00:07:10Fashion.
00:07:11Yeah.
00:07:12We should go with Hagrid.
00:07:13I love Hagrid.
00:07:14Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:07:15He's with Harry right from the very beginning, isn't he?
00:07:17Yeah.
00:07:18What scene are we going to use for Hagrid?
00:07:19We should go with, uh, Baby Norbert, maybe?
00:07:22He's setting fire to...
00:07:24Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:07:25Setting fire to the beard.
00:07:26Let's go with them.
00:07:27Perfect.
00:07:28Yeah.
00:07:29Ooh!
00:07:30Ooh!
00:07:31Ooh!
00:07:32Ooh!
00:07:33Whoa.
00:07:34He'll have to be trained up a bit, of course.
00:07:37Yeah?
00:07:38So we've got Hagrid...
00:07:40Mm-hmm.
00:07:41Holding Baby Norbert...
00:07:42There you go.
00:07:43...with in his oven gloves.
00:07:44Yeah.
00:07:45I'm a chocolatier.
00:07:46Yes.
00:07:47So I think I should be doing the egg, also the chocolate flames.
00:07:49Oh, my God.
00:07:50Are you ready?
00:07:51Are you ready?
00:07:52Let's do this.
00:07:53We've got this.
00:07:54Let's just go.
00:07:55Don't be fooled by her bubbly personality.
00:08:00Self-taught cake artist Jenny is a force to be reckoned with.
00:08:05With an impressive cake resume and a knack for hyper realism.
00:08:12Hoping to mix up the competition with his chocolatier skills, Chef Alex pairs innovative techniques with flavours that are sure to surprise and excite.
00:08:24I think we both know that we've got some crazy skills.
00:08:27Yeah.
00:08:28Your chocolate work is just phenomenal.
00:08:30What about your cake skills?
00:08:32Oh, yeah, thank you.
00:08:33I'm not very good at compliments, but okay.
00:08:36Um, okay, well, the Gryffindor is represented by the lion?
00:08:40Yes.
00:08:41Our showpiece is inspired by the iconic elements of Gryffindor.
00:08:44I think making sort of the lion represent the fire.
00:08:47I love it.
00:08:48And I think we have to include the sword, right?
00:08:50Godric's sword.
00:08:51Yeah.
00:08:52And I always think of, like, Hermione.
00:08:53She's carrying books all the time.
00:08:55When I think of the Gryffindors, I think they're always in their robes and the scarf.
00:08:59Gryffindor!
00:09:01We're the newbies.
00:09:02We've got to make a big impact right out of it.
00:09:05Right.
00:09:06It's really surreal being here.
00:09:07A little overwhelming.
00:09:08We haven't ever done any of this before, so it's all new for us.
00:09:11Like Kate, I haven't competed in a competition of this magnitude.
00:09:15But we got something up our sleeves.
00:09:18Yes.
00:09:20I will soft this one in the microwave so it is faster.
00:09:24Alex is making our tasting element.
00:09:27He's the king of flavors.
00:09:28And the tasting element will be hidden underneath a chocolate egg.
00:09:32This is my first TV show, so I'm really excited.
00:09:36I wanted to replicate Norbert's egg as real as possible.
00:09:40I'm just spraying some bronze cacao butter so it looks more realistic.
00:09:45For me, chocolate, it's my life.
00:09:47I really love how to create new things and making these weird ideas that I have in my mind.
00:09:54How does it look?
00:09:55That's looking gorgeous.
00:09:56Yeah, right?
00:09:57I'm from Cuernavaca, Morelos.
00:10:00It is a little town next to the capital in Mexico.
00:10:04I am kind of a bohemian.
00:10:06I love writing poetry.
00:10:08I play the guitar.
00:10:09Really?
00:10:10I used to have a band, yeah.
00:10:11I've been playing the horn now for nearly 40 years.
00:10:14Are you kidding me?
00:10:15We should have a band.
00:10:18So, Jenny?
00:10:19Hmm?
00:10:20How big of a fan of Harry Potter are you?
00:10:22I'm actually obsessed.
00:10:23Okay.
00:10:24Obviously, I've read all the books numerous times.
00:10:27Okay.
00:10:28I've seen all the films.
00:10:29Okay.
00:10:30I've listened to the audio books.
00:10:31I have the outfits.
00:10:32I have the wands.
00:10:33We have the costumes.
00:10:34I have the jewelry.
00:10:35Oh, yeah.
00:10:36Okay, bakers.
00:10:41So, one house has been allocated.
00:10:43Three to go.
00:10:45Molly and Priya.
00:10:46Angel and Rui.
00:10:48You're next.
00:10:49I don't want to get Slytherin.
00:10:50I'm worried about that.
00:10:51I really don't like snakes.
00:10:53Ah.
00:10:55Right then.
00:10:56Mmm.
00:10:57Hufflepuff!
00:10:58Hey!
00:10:59Hufflepuffs!
00:11:02The Hufflepuff house element is earth.
00:11:05Mm-hmm.
00:11:06So, you need to keep that in mind for your first showpiece.
00:11:09Right, guys, what are you waiting for?
00:11:11Your time's already started.
00:11:12Come on.
00:11:13You've got six hours.
00:11:14Go, go, go.
00:11:23Wow.
00:11:24Oh, my God.
00:11:25Oh, my.
00:11:26Look at him.
00:11:27Wow.
00:11:28Oh, my gosh.
00:11:29I decided to cook.
00:11:31Hi.
00:11:32I've never baked anywhere like this before.
00:11:34This is incredible.
00:11:35Amazing.
00:11:36So, what do you think?
00:11:37So, we need to do something that's really big.
00:11:40Yep.
00:11:41How about if we do a forest scene?
00:11:42A forest?
00:11:43Yeah.
00:11:44I like that.
00:11:45I like the garden.
00:11:46I like the, like, soil.
00:11:47What I am good at is animals.
00:11:48I think that should definitely be carved cake,
00:11:50because that kind of is my specialty.
00:11:52So, the badger's gonna be cake.
00:11:53We need something on the top, like...
00:11:55Why don't we do the greenhouse classroom on top?
00:11:58How do we make it look like glass, though?
00:11:59We could do a little sugar work.
00:12:00The cake is mainly gonna have, like, three main focal points.
00:12:04It's gonna have the badger, the watering can,
00:12:07and then we've got the Professor Spout's greenhouse on the top,
00:12:11because Professor Spout's a Hufflepuff.
00:12:13We'll have mushrooms and snails
00:12:15and just every element of a perfect enchanted forest scene.
00:12:20I'm also a little bit concerned with the greenhouse on top.
00:12:23Like, we've got to go for it.
00:12:29A renowned master of chocolate, Canada's Priya,
00:12:33arrived onto the scene after earning global recognition
00:12:36for her chocolate artistry.
00:12:38The daughter of a celebrated English comedian and a showgirl,
00:12:43Molly always makes an entrance.
00:12:48She sculpts lifelike cakes that never fail to impress.
00:12:53Molly and Priya are hungry to rewrite the rulebook
00:12:57for all wizards of baking.
00:12:59Oh, hello.
00:13:00We've realised we have similar tastes, similar style.
00:13:05We both run our own businesses.
00:13:07We also are, like, incredibly strong, independent women,
00:13:10and we are here to win.
00:13:15Oh, wow.
00:13:17The first thing I'm doing is the greenhouse on the top
00:13:20made of ice malt.
00:13:21I've already set all of my bars to create the shapes
00:13:25for the front, back, sides, and top of the greenhouse.
00:13:28Wow.
00:13:29I honestly think it looks fantastic.
00:13:32Yeah.
00:13:33It is striking, just clear as glass.
00:13:37So I'm putting the pieces together,
00:13:40very carefully warming the edges.
00:13:46OK.
00:13:47And the isomal is cracking.
00:13:52It's so fragile.
00:13:54Priya, no!
00:13:55It's the focal point.
00:13:56It's the top of the piece.
00:13:58Terrifying.
00:14:01Ah!
00:14:02The gazebo has had an accident, but it's OK.
00:14:06We're going to keep going.
00:14:08We're fine.
00:14:09Just stick it back together on this one.
00:14:13Like, I've got some gaps here.
00:14:15I like the crack.
00:14:16You do?
00:14:17Yeah, we're going to add a vine to it.
00:14:19I'm adding the stained glass to the isomal.
00:14:22I drew the stained glass design.
00:14:24I'm just going to stick it on with a bit of piping gel.
00:14:26We had a crack in the isomal,
00:14:28but then we realized the real Professor Sprout's greenhouse
00:14:32has got cracks in it and great big vines growing through it.
00:14:35So we're just making it a design feature.
00:14:36So if anything, it's going to look even better.
00:14:39Look, Priya.
00:14:41Yeah, Molly.
00:14:42So good.
00:14:44I am so ready to do this challenge.
00:14:48Angel is definitely a person with good energy.
00:14:50I can feel your vibes.
00:14:51We have a very different personality,
00:14:54but it's a good compliment.
00:14:57Known as a culinary mad scientist,
00:15:00molecular gastronomy specialist Chef Rui
00:15:03creates edible experiments that dazzle and delight,
00:15:07packed with copious amounts of flavor in every single bite.
00:15:12Chili Board and Colorado-based Angel is a creative force
00:15:23whose sculpted cakes and clever problem-solving skills
00:15:29are equal parts art and ingenuity.
00:15:37I think I'm a Hufflepuff because I am very connected to the earth.
00:15:41My family loves to go camping.
00:15:44We go to love fishing and skiing
00:15:46and everything that involves to be outside.
00:15:49Oh, I hate camping.
00:15:51It's so uncomfortable.
00:15:53There's no mattress.
00:15:55There's no air conditioner.
00:15:56There's no heater there.
00:15:58It's so uncomfortable.
00:16:00You're so bougie.
00:16:02Here we have our armature for our garden box.
00:16:05Our element, it's earth.
00:16:06So we really want to make the main trick.
00:16:11Got it.
00:16:12And now you dunk it down into the other pot
00:16:15and pour a little sprinkling of soil to keep him warm.
00:16:22In our garden box, we're going to have a big mandrake.
00:16:25We're going to have dirt inside, made of cocoa crumble.
00:16:29And then we're going to have three little baby mandrakes.
00:16:32So this is a mandrake.
00:16:33I'm going to be carving this out of cake.
00:16:35And this is a mouth.
00:16:37And it's going to be moving and screaming.
00:16:43Hello. How are you?
00:16:44I have to make sure it's not too heavy, so it actually goes up and down.
00:16:49That's why I'm using rice cereal, because that's the lightest thing I can use.
00:16:54And modeling chocolate on top.
00:16:57I'm adding these roots to give it a little bit more high.
00:17:01I'm loving him.
00:17:03Beautiful.
00:17:04Oh.
00:17:09Jor and Katie.
00:17:11Arjun Sarah.
00:17:13Front and centre, please.
00:17:15Oh boy.
00:17:16Oh boy.
00:17:17So, only two houses left.
00:17:19Slytherin and Ravenclaw.
00:17:22I know just what to do with you.
00:17:25Slytherin!
00:17:26Slytherins are known for their pride, ambition, and cunning.
00:17:33Their house element is the suitably slippery substance of water.
00:17:40So you need to keep that in mind for your creations.
00:17:44Guys, time to slither off to the kitchen.
00:17:47Good luck!
00:17:49Yay, Slytherin!
00:17:51We're very ambitious.
00:17:53We're ready to give everything that we have.
00:17:55We have to win.
00:17:56I want to win, but we have to win.
00:18:05Wow!
00:18:07What just happened?
00:18:08Oh, my God.
00:18:09Oh, my God, we just went through the Blue Network.
00:18:12I'll try to not freak out.
00:18:14I might cry.
00:18:15I get a little anxious, a little bad under pressure.
00:18:18So, you know, it's okay.
00:18:20You'll have me.
00:18:21I'll be your personal cheerleader.
00:18:22Yeah?
00:18:23Yeah, we'll be good.
00:18:24Hey, guys!
00:18:25So I've competed on five baking shows, and I won three.
00:18:28I'm so glad you're my teammate, because I've never competed on a TV show before.
00:18:32I am a chocolatier.
00:18:33I've been asked to be on competitions all the time, and I'm like, no, I don't do TV.
00:18:37That's not for me.
00:18:38When they were like, it's Harry Potter, and I was like, today.
00:18:41I'll go there today.
00:18:43Lucky for us, I'm a 4.0 student, and I'm here to win.
00:18:46You want to know a fun fact?
00:18:47Mm-hmm.
00:18:48I was also a 4.0 student.
00:18:49We've got to create something really epic.
00:18:51Could we do, like, Voldemort?
00:18:52Why not?
00:18:53Right.
00:18:54You're all right.
00:18:55So, you know what I'm thinking?
00:18:56So, we have to integrate water.
00:18:57Oh, the scene.
00:18:58You know when the water is spinning in the air?
00:18:59In the Ministry of Magic?
00:19:00Yeah.
00:19:01Yeah.
00:19:02Yeah.
00:19:03Yeah.
00:19:04Yeah.
00:19:05So, we can do, like, a cascading, like, gravity-defying isomol.
00:19:08This is going to be really, really cool.
00:19:11Yeah.
00:19:12Yeah.
00:19:13Yeah.
00:19:14Yeah.
00:19:15Yeah.
00:19:16Yeah.
00:19:17Yeah.
00:19:18Yeah.
00:19:19Yeah.
00:19:20Yeah.
00:19:21Yeah.
00:19:22Yeah.
00:19:23Yeah.
00:19:24Yeah.
00:19:25Yeah.
00:19:26Yeah.
00:19:27Yeah.
00:19:28It's really, really challenging because of the wait.
00:19:31Let's get started.
00:19:33Okay.
00:19:34What is something that is so Slytherin, it's unmistakable?
00:19:38Yeah.
00:19:39We have to use water.
00:19:40When I think water, I think of the Chamber of Secrets.
00:19:43Maybe we'll do, like, a multi-level floor view.
00:19:46Yeah.
00:19:47Like, you start at the top in the hallway of Hogwarts, where it's, like, the wall, like,
00:19:51has the warning of, like, the air beware, right?
00:19:54Mm-hmm.
00:19:55Maybe, like, as you go downward, there's the snake door that you have to speak and parcel
00:20:00tongue to open.
00:20:01And then below that, it could be, like, the Chamber of Secrets.
00:20:04It's, like, the big cavernous crypt.
00:20:06Perfect.
00:20:07Yes.
00:20:08Our showpiece consists of three tiers.
00:20:10The middle tier will have stalagmites and stalactites added on either side of the door.
00:20:15The entrance walkway will be surrounded by water and lead up to a cavern with a huge carving of Salazar Slytherin's face.
00:20:22Emerging from the entrance of the wall is a large basilisk.
00:20:25On the walkway lies the diary of Tom Riddle.
00:20:28Rip it off like a bandaid. Wow.
00:20:30Marge, this has been crazy so far, right?
00:20:32Like, I feel like we just met each other.
00:20:34Yeah, I know.
00:20:35We actually did just meet each other.
00:20:36And now we're...
00:20:37Now we have to force ourselves to work together with our different styles.
00:20:40I am obsessed with pro wrestling.
00:20:42That is my thing.
00:20:44Going to Comic-Con, and I love cosplay.
00:20:47I'm not really girly, I would say.
00:20:49I've always been a tomboy.
00:20:50People look at me, and they always tell me they're so intimidated by me.
00:20:54When I first saw you, I thought, maybe she'll hate me.
00:20:56I know.
00:20:57I don't know.
00:20:58But honestly, you're the sweetest person.
00:21:00I think we're pretty polar opposites.
00:21:03When I'm not baking, I love spending time with my two cats at home.
00:21:07I love gardening, everything to do with flowers.
00:21:10Sarah's like a princess, like a...
00:21:15All right, yeah, this is lining up so good.
00:21:18The top tier of our show piece is made out of dark chocolate
00:21:21that I cast into a silicone mold.
00:21:24I'm just giving it a little hair dry.
00:21:26That looks so cool.
00:21:28I'm doing a lot of cocoa butter spraying to give some dimension.
00:21:32I then go back with a really fine brush and red cocoa butter
00:21:35to hand paint the ominous message.
00:21:38We're good, we're good.
00:21:40Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
00:21:41I'm a chocolatier.
00:21:42I don't usually work with rice cereal, but this is fun.
00:21:45Learning new mediums.
00:21:47This is where the tasting cake is going to go.
00:21:49So build this guy up to here, and then leave the sponsor cake, okay?
00:21:51Perfect.
00:21:52Okay.
00:21:53And what about yay high for the cake?
00:21:54Very technical.
00:21:55Yay high.
00:21:56Yay high.
00:21:57I am now a cake artist.
00:22:00Mm-hmm.
00:22:01It is looking a little bit messy right now, but we will save time to clean it up.
00:22:05Yep.
00:22:06But it's looking good.
00:22:07Yep.
00:22:12Best for last.
00:22:13Well, with only two teams left and one house to go, any guesses?
00:22:18Ravenclaw.
00:22:19That is right.
00:22:21Yay.
00:22:22Oh, no.
00:22:23Caitlyn and Jaleesa.
00:22:24And you're and Stefan.
00:22:25Ravenclaws are known for their wit, their wisdom, and their learning.
00:22:29And the house element is air.
00:22:31So, come then.
00:22:32Get cracking.
00:22:33Off your pot.
00:22:34Good luck, guys.
00:22:36The script is very, very clear.
00:22:38That trophy needs to say Caitlyn and Jaleesa.
00:22:40Season two winners.
00:22:41I actually have previously competed with Jaleesa before.
00:22:44I did beat her, seeing if I could do it for a second time.
00:22:54Oh, my God.
00:22:55What?
00:23:00That's crazy.
00:23:01Whoa, this is our stage.
00:23:02Oh, my God.
00:23:03Okay.
00:23:04I think Raven.
00:23:05Raven needs to be, like, the main part of it.
00:23:07Yeah.
00:23:08Because I know you're good with, like, chocolate and stuff like that.
00:23:09You think you could do, like...
00:23:10I could do some chocolate wings.
00:23:11Yeah, we could do some chocolate feathers.
00:23:12Yes.
00:23:13With the feathers.
00:23:14Yeah, yeah.
00:23:15If we do, like, maybe, like, an open book, we still have to include, I think, like, a really
00:23:18important part of Ravenclaw is, like, a part of the movie is the diadem.
00:23:21Then we could maybe create that with sugar.
00:23:23We can kind of set it on, like, a pillow.
00:23:25Could that be my entremé, then?
00:23:26Yeah, so the entremé would be the pillow.
00:23:29I like that.
00:23:30We need to do something really theatrical.
00:23:32It's actually my motto for life is to make it magical.
00:23:35And I try to make it magical every day, and that's whether it's with my desserts,
00:23:39whether it's DJing, whether it is having a gospel night with my amazing wife,
00:23:44who's a powerful singer.
00:23:46What about the wings?
00:23:47The wings.
00:23:48That's ambitious.
00:23:49Yeah.
00:23:50I am a cake artist.
00:23:51I definitely had to convince my parents to let me go to culinary school.
00:23:54And they were like, yeah, I mean, as long as, you know, you pay, and then you can go.
00:24:00And then, so, you know, I'm in debt, but we're good.
00:24:03Taking a risk, but I think it's cool.
00:24:04We're doing a little bit more than we need to, but I think that it's the first episode.
00:24:07Honestly, let's go for it.
00:24:08So we have to do air.
00:24:10Okay.
00:24:11It's like, what if we did a bird actually flying?
00:24:15Love that.
00:24:16Okay.
00:24:17From Maryland, mum of two, Caitlin, is bringing her enthusiasm and passion for bold cake designs
00:24:24with her into the kitchen.
00:24:27New Jersey mum of two, Jaleesa, enters the competition equally determined to take home the trophy.
00:24:35Both of these strong-minded bakers have their eyes focused on the prize.
00:24:40You know, we're both very competitive.
00:24:42I'm very good at what I do.
00:24:45I've won two competitions before.
00:24:47I competed on Spring Bacon Championship, won that.
00:24:50We're not going into this very cocky and big head, like, oh, yeah, I'm really good at what...
00:24:54It's like, yes, we're good at what we do, but we're also...
00:24:56We can back it up.
00:24:57Yeah.
00:24:58You know how when they cast a spell, the gust that kind of shows on the outside of the line?
00:25:01Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:25:02I want to somehow try to incorporate, like, some moves.
00:25:04So should we do, like, Wingardium Leviosa?
00:25:06Yes, yes, like Hermione.
00:25:08The way she's, like, trying to pronounce it.
00:25:10It's Leviosa, not Leviosa.
00:25:13You do it, then, if you're so clever.
00:25:16Go on, go on.
00:25:17Wingardium Leviosa.
00:25:18Wingardium Leviosa.
00:25:19Wingardium Leviosa.
00:25:26What if one of the books is open and that's where the magic comes out?
00:25:29And that's how the gust comes out.
00:25:30I like that.
00:25:31Okay, okay.
00:25:32So we're doing a table and books.
00:25:33Our tasting element will be inside of the books.
00:25:35Also, we're gonna have a homework scroll that says the Wingardium Leviosa spell.
00:25:39And then the raven on top is our showstopper.
00:25:42I had no idea how competitive I was until I started competing.
00:25:46I just thought, like, oh, it's a friendly competition.
00:25:49I'm gonna, like, try my best.
00:25:50And, like, yeah.
00:25:51And then it was like, no, I'm elbowing people.
00:25:52And I'm a track star.
00:25:53And I will run to grab what I want.
00:25:54And I will take the last one and not care.
00:25:56Because I want to win.
00:25:57The whole point of a competition is to win.
00:26:07Whoa.
00:26:08Whoa.
00:26:09Oh, my God.
00:26:10Isn't the Food Network amazing?
00:26:11Oh, my God.
00:26:12Woo!
00:26:13So remember, teams, you all began 30 minutes apart.
00:26:17So some of you will finish before others.
00:26:20Oh.
00:26:21Gryffindor teams, you started first.
00:26:23So you'll be the first to step up and present to the judges.
00:26:26Okay.
00:26:27Yeah.
00:26:28Hufflepuff teams, you will present yours 30 minutes later.
00:26:31Slytherin will be next.
00:26:33And then, finally, Ravenclaw.
00:26:35Woo!
00:26:36Awesome!
00:26:40Looking good.
00:26:41Start adding the dry and the...
00:26:44So for my bit, when I make baby Norbert,
00:26:46I've got this really cool technique.
00:26:48I'm thinking I'm going to make his wings.
00:26:50Yeah.
00:26:51But I'm going to make them out of edible skin.
00:26:53What I'm going to be doing is painting an underlayer
00:26:55of these wafer paper sheets.
00:26:58So I'm just giving this a base coat of gelatin.
00:27:00And then when this gelatin dries,
00:27:02it's going to look like skin.
00:27:04So what I will do is sandwich his fingers
00:27:07inside two layers of paper.
00:27:09And then what that's going to do is give the wing structure.
00:27:13So it'll look like the bone underneath the skin.
00:27:15And I'll be airbrushing it and dusting it
00:27:17and making it look even more realistic.
00:27:21Ooh!
00:27:22It feels good to be cooking.
00:27:23For the tasting element,
00:27:24we'll be making a buttermilk cake
00:27:26with a rhubarb and blood orange compote filling.
00:27:28And it will be right behind the eyes
00:27:30in the lion's forehead.
00:27:31So I have our blood orange puree.
00:27:33I'm going to combine that with a little sugar,
00:27:35our rhubarb, cook that down in a compote.
00:27:38I'm going a little bit savory with my rhubarb,
00:27:40so there could be a little bit of an error in balance
00:27:44between that salty and that sweet.
00:27:46You know, I get in my head and I get really nervous
00:27:49and I'm like, what am I doing?
00:27:50It's intimidating.
00:27:51I mean, the whole thing is terrifying.
00:27:53I live in Nashville, Tennessee,
00:27:55and I'm the executive pastry chef at a hotel.
00:27:58I'm a little bit whimsical.
00:28:01I like to have fun.
00:28:02I'm a little bit cheeky.
00:28:04So I think that that translates into my desserts.
00:28:07I'm from Michigan.
00:28:10Detroit Lions.
00:28:11Love.
00:28:12Love.
00:28:13I have owned my own bakery for 12 years
00:28:15and we've always did these really big window displays.
00:28:18It took me a long time to find my own stride
00:28:21and in my 40s now, it's time.
00:28:24Look out, world.
00:28:26I am going to probably work on the lion now.
00:28:30Okay.
00:28:31All right.
00:28:32Let's get it going.
00:28:34Now I'm starting to shape the mane
00:28:36so we can give it a lot of power and strength
00:28:39like Gryffindor House deserves.
00:28:42I think it looks really good.
00:28:44You're really fast at this.
00:28:46I'm so happy with it.
00:28:48Bigger is better and more is more.
00:28:50Absolutely.
00:28:52We're back for chapter two,
00:28:53back in our lovely kitchen.
00:28:5516 bakers at once in the kitchen,
00:28:58all working really, really hard.
00:29:00How exciting is that?
00:29:01I know.
00:29:02Over the course of this season,
00:29:03we're going to see challenges
00:29:05which are tougher than before.
00:29:06We're going to push these bakers
00:29:08as far as they can possibly go.
00:29:10I can't wait to see what the judges think of it.
00:29:12So, you know what I've noticed?
00:29:14There's a tribute to a lot of different characters in here,
00:29:18including Goblet of Fire's very own Cedric Diggory.
00:29:21Yes.
00:29:22Where's our tribute?
00:29:23Yeah.
00:29:24Have we just got to stand in a plinth?
00:29:26We didn't get a shirt.
00:29:27Just do this.
00:29:29You're good like that.
00:29:31I'll take over, shall I?
00:29:33Oh.
00:29:34Oh.
00:29:35Kaylin, Jalisa.
00:29:36Hello.
00:29:37How are you today?
00:29:38It's definitely like hyperspeed that we're working in, but...
00:29:41So, what are you doing right now then, Kaylin?
00:29:43So, the bottom of our show piece is a desk,
00:29:45so I am marbling fondant,
00:29:47basically three different colours,
00:29:49and what that does is like, it makes wood grain striations,
00:29:52so then when I put it through the sheeter,
00:29:53it looks like this.
00:29:54That's hoist?
00:29:55Yeah.
00:29:56Yeah.
00:29:57That's this.
00:29:58Wow.
00:29:59Which one of you girls is the biggest Potter fan here?
00:30:01That's definitely Kaylin.
00:30:03I almost burst into tears when I walked into the Great Hall.
00:30:05I've been a fan since I was, like, 11,
00:30:07so it feels like I kind of grew up with all of you guys, really.
00:30:10Okay.
00:30:11I can, like, quote the movie and, like, do the voices and everything.
00:30:14The voices? Go on, do a voice.
00:30:15Where have you been?
00:30:17That was really good.
00:30:19Where have you been?
00:30:23Guys, we'll leave you to it.
00:30:26All the best season.
00:30:30I'm making the Yuzu sponge,
00:30:32so we wanted it to be the Hufflepuff colour,
00:30:35the yellow and black,
00:30:36so we've got the yellow of the sponge,
00:30:37and then I'm making a black sesame buttercream,
00:30:40and that's going to add, like, a really nutty,
00:30:42like, earthy kind of flavour.
00:30:44See, it's got multiple ends,
00:30:46and it's really giving me that sugar threadiness.
00:30:49I'll be doing a sesame nougatine as well,
00:30:51and that's going to add a little bit of crunch texture
00:30:53and colour to our cake.
00:30:55This build is bigger and has more components
00:30:58than anything I've ever done before.
00:31:00It really needs to be a team effort.
00:31:03I've just got to be positive.
00:31:06I have some Sichuan buttons.
00:31:10Sichuan buttons are a kind of type of spice.
00:31:13It will be part of the rosemary
00:31:16and Sichuan button tasting almond.
00:31:18So I'm freezing with, like, nitrogen.
00:31:21So Sichuan buttons,
00:31:22they have this activated molecule,
00:31:24which is called hydroxyl-alpha-sinchu.
00:31:26I'm short.
00:31:27And he works at...
00:31:28I'm short.
00:31:29My expertise is molecular gastronomy.
00:31:32I really have to use the goggles.
00:31:34I'm a chef, food designer, and professor
00:31:35at two universities and three different schools.
00:31:38In Portugal, Lisbon,
00:31:39I'm really trying to make my name as a mark
00:31:41and as a stamp for Portuguese gastronomy.
00:31:45Beautiful. That's it.
00:31:47Oh, I got the best partner!
00:31:49So the Sichuan, it's something really nice
00:31:52because it gives you a dynamic effect.
00:31:54It's going to feel like
00:31:55you're having electrical impulses.
00:31:58Oh, my gosh!
00:31:59In your tongue.
00:32:00Are you sure?
00:32:01Sure, trust me.
00:32:07Oh, my gosh!
00:32:08I can't see my tongue now.
00:32:11What?
00:32:12Be careful.
00:32:13Try one each.
00:32:14They should probably sign something before.
00:32:17So we've got something
00:32:18which makes your tongue go to sleep.
00:32:20You're going to feel like electric.
00:32:21Whiskey.
00:32:22You're going to feel like electric sensation
00:32:24on your tongue.
00:32:25Okay, so I'm feeling like
00:32:27if you were to get a car battery and lick it,
00:32:29that's probably the best way I could describe it.
00:32:31I have never had anything like this before.
00:32:33It's magic.
00:32:34In my life.
00:32:35The molecules, everything, yeah.
00:32:37Yeah.
00:32:38Hey, Uncle!
00:32:39See you later, guys.
00:32:40I'll let you know if you're salivating too much.
00:32:46We're, like, starting the tasting element stuff.
00:32:48My instant thought is make matcha cake, right?
00:32:51It's green.
00:32:52Obviously represents Slytherin.
00:32:54So I'm doing the lime curd right now,
00:32:56and I'm also going to scale out
00:32:57the white chocolate whipped ganache.
00:32:58I'm not the biggest fan of matcha.
00:33:00Do you like matcha?
00:33:01I love matcha.
00:33:02That's why it was my first thought.
00:33:03I mean, we could have done pistachio cake, but...
00:33:05Right.
00:33:06Matcha is a flavor that can go very bitter very quickly,
00:33:10and we don't want it to be too earthy.
00:33:12We just want to show a little bit of that bitterness
00:33:14to then get balanced with the lime.
00:33:17All right.
00:33:18Now I'm...
00:33:19Oh, my God.
00:33:20Now I'm throwing myself off.
00:33:21Six.
00:33:22Oh, God.
00:33:23What?
00:33:24Hey.
00:33:25Now I'm like, did I put six in here?
00:33:27Aw.
00:33:30So basically, I am building the cake right here.
00:33:33So for our Slytherin tasting element,
00:33:35we are creating the heart of dark magic.
00:33:38It's going to be a cardamom cake,
00:33:39and then I'm going to add a cardamom Swiss meringue
00:33:42buttercream,
00:33:43a orange curd to add some tartness,
00:33:46some roasted salted pistachios,
00:33:48and it's going to be topped off with some candied orange peel.
00:33:52Cardamom is a really popular flavor in my Indian culture.
00:33:56It's known for being really herbaceous.
00:33:59You know, it has some cupping powers,
00:34:01and it's kind of magical and mysterious.
00:34:04I really want to win
00:34:05because I want to show the younger me that,
00:34:07you know, you did it.
00:34:08Growing up,
00:34:09when I used to watch all these cooking and baking shows,
00:34:11I never saw someone like me.
00:34:13So I really want to inspire everyone who's watching,
00:34:16who looks like me, maybe, to follow their dream.
00:34:18See ya.
00:34:21Oh, my gosh. That's so good.
00:34:23Snack time.
00:34:24Everybody get snacks.
00:34:28Hailing from Claremont, Florida,
00:34:30master chocolatier Katie is hyper-competitive
00:34:34and uses her knowledge and book smarts
00:34:36to always be top of the class.
00:34:42A fierce competitor, Jujar,
00:34:44is Canada's luminary of achievement.
00:34:47His fearless creativity and bold flavors in baking
00:34:51have enabled his rise to international prominence.
00:34:55I'm so glad you're my teammate
00:34:58because we're both really, really driven and ambitious.
00:35:03We're going up the best of the best,
00:35:05and we want to be the best of the best.
00:35:07You know what?
00:35:08What?
00:35:09We're on schedule.
00:35:10Oh, my God.
00:35:11That looks delicious.
00:35:15Sponge is going in.
00:35:16Whip ganache is going in.
00:35:17We're good, okay?
00:35:18Yeah, nice.
00:35:19So because I'm the pastry expert of the team,
00:35:21I am doing a stunning layered entremé.
00:35:23And what's that going to be
00:35:24is multiple layers of textures and flavors,
00:35:27starting with a crunchy base with protein milk chocolate.
00:35:30Then we've got a milk chocolate custard,
00:35:31an incredible caramel sponge.
00:35:33We then have the most amazing chewy caramel,
00:35:36some crunchy pearls of chocolate,
00:35:38and finally a whipped ganache,
00:35:39which is what I'm making now.
00:35:40And that's going to be a pillow for the diadem to sit on top.
00:35:43I've got my whipped ganache.
00:35:44I'm going to pipe that in.
00:35:45We're then going to paint in all the detail
00:35:47to make sure the mold catches all of that detail.
00:35:49And then I've got my amazing layers to go inside the cake.
00:35:52We've selected a mold which is shaped
00:35:54just like this amazing pillow,
00:35:56and it's just the perfect platform to present the diadem.
00:36:00I grew up with cooking and food in my family.
00:36:02My grandmother was a celebrated chef and cookery author.
00:36:05So going into pastry was natural for me.
00:36:08It's exciting to be here representing
00:36:10sort of the family culinary spirit.
00:36:13Oh, yeah.
00:36:14We're going to make the Potterheads proud.
00:36:16Buttoned-up executive pastry chef Stefan looks after all the desserts
00:36:22at an exquisite English Yorkshire five-star hotel.
00:36:26His joyful, upbeat persona is reflected in everything he bakes.
00:36:32Arriving from New York, Andy is a creative whirlwind of imagination.
00:36:37He balances all his skills to deliver captivating creations.
00:36:42Will magic happen when their worlds collide?
00:36:45I think that, you know, two different sides of the world
00:36:49come together and make some cool stuff.
00:36:51You know, New Yorkshire.
00:36:57Our biggest risk from a construction standpoint is gravity.
00:37:01It's not cake's friend.
00:37:03Before my very eyes, pieces of the lion's head are falling off.
00:37:08Ooh, this is a mess.
00:37:10I'm going to just have to be a lot more careful.
00:37:12It's a big problem.
00:37:14I mean, it's the focal point.
00:37:16It's got to be perfection.
00:37:17Gryffindor teams, three hours gone.
00:37:20You are halfway through your beak.
00:37:22Wait, what?
00:37:23Oh, my gosh.
00:37:27I'm hoping with the amount of time we have left that it's,
00:37:30it's saveable.
00:37:31So we're going to get to it and see what can happen.
00:37:34I used much more chocolate than it was expected,
00:37:37but the chocolate is doing its job
00:37:39and it's holding the rice cereal in its place.
00:37:41We haven't given up yet.
00:37:42We got time to rally.
00:37:44We're trying to blend that tall, skinny tasting piece
00:37:48that we have into the face,
00:37:50so almost like a little frame.
00:37:52And we're just wanting to make sure
00:37:54that this all stays in its place.
00:37:56I'll definitely be trimming some of this away,
00:37:59but we just need to fill in those little gaps for now.
00:38:03We don't want our lion having a double chin.
00:38:06We're covering the face in fondant,
00:38:09so it can be nice and rigid and solid.
00:38:11So happy with it.
00:38:12I couldn't be happier with the moment.
00:38:14Oh, she pretty.
00:38:16I just need one more egg.
00:38:19For our tasting element,
00:38:21we really wanted the flavor to encompass Ravenclaw.
00:38:24What do you do when you study?
00:38:25You have a nice hot cup of tea.
00:38:27But also, we kind of wanted that to reflect Professor Trelawney
00:38:30because she does the tea leaves readings.
00:38:32So we are going for a London Fog-inspired cake.
00:38:34It'll be an Earl Grey cake with a Earl Grey milk soak
00:38:37that has a blueberry lavender jam
00:38:39with a vanilla and honey swissing buttercream.
00:38:41Dressed up as books.
00:38:42So I'm all about natural flavors.
00:38:44This is right up my alley for making a London Fog cake.
00:38:47So instead of using some weird, like, extract,
00:38:49I'm just going to put Earl Grey tea leaves
00:38:50and make the natural flavor in my cake.
00:38:52This smells so good, Jaleesa.
00:38:54So once the cakes are out of the oven,
00:38:56I apply the milk soak while it's still warm.
00:38:58So this kind of helps reintroduce the Earl Grey flavor
00:39:00and also a little bit of sweetness.
00:39:02So the hole in the center is to fit through my armature
00:39:05in the bottom where the books are going to sit.
00:39:07So it's got to make a little hole for it
00:39:09so it can sit perfectly inside.
00:39:11Do you want to try the cake?
00:39:14Give me that.
00:39:16I definitely feel confident in us going far
00:39:21in this competition and winning.
00:39:23Oh, we're winning.
00:39:24Hold my butterbeer.
00:39:25Yes.
00:39:26We love Stefan and Andy, but they got to go.
00:39:32Jenny, Alex.
00:39:33Hey.
00:39:34Hello.
00:39:35What does it feel like to be in this kitchen
00:39:37in this competition right now?
00:39:39My mind is blown.
00:39:40I'm very warm.
00:39:41Yeah.
00:39:42But it's a bonkers experience, isn't it?
00:39:43Jenny, have you done this before then?
00:39:44I've done a show before.
00:39:45Do you remember last year's winner, Zoe?
00:39:47Yes.
00:39:48So I was on a show with her.
00:39:49Right, okay, yeah, okay, okay.
00:39:50So it's her fault I'm here.
00:39:52She said to me, enjoy the ride.
00:39:54Okay.
00:39:55You're going to be shattered.
00:39:56No question.
00:39:57No question.
00:39:58And what about other competitions?
00:40:00Well, yes.
00:40:01We have something in the UK called Cake International
00:40:03and I may have won that in 2022
00:40:06and then I was voted as the number one cake artist in the UK in 2023.
00:40:10So you're pretty good, that's what I'm guessing then.
00:40:12No, I'm not bad.
00:40:13I'm British, we don't brag.
00:40:14No, exactly, yeah.
00:40:15Is this the first type of bake that you've got to bake a dragon
00:40:19or anything like that?
00:40:20For me it is.
00:40:21Yeah.
00:40:22So I'm a bit nervous, to be honest.
00:40:23Yeah.
00:40:24So what are you doing to push yourselves?
00:40:25I just think we've got a winning concept.
00:40:27I think we've got a cracking idea.
00:40:29We've got some stupid sort of techniques that we're using.
00:40:31You know, for goodness sake, edible skin.
00:40:33We're making also a really super shiny Norbert's chocolate egg.
00:40:38Also some sugar rocks and you will see we have quite things going on here.
00:40:43I mean, his tasting element down the bottom with the egg is just bananas.
00:40:47It's not really bananas, but you know what I mean.
00:40:49So what are you doing now?
00:40:51So we're smoking the whipped cream.
00:40:53This is a smoke gun.
00:40:55I'm using walnut chips.
00:40:56Walnut chips, right?
00:40:57Yeah, yeah.
00:40:58Oh, it is smoky.
00:40:59It is smoky, yeah.
00:41:00There you go.
00:41:01So it is coming inside.
00:41:02Smells like bonfire, no?
00:41:03Yeah.
00:41:04I mean, it sounds very unique.
00:41:05See you later.
00:41:06Bye, boys.
00:41:07See you later.
00:41:08We're planning on making a small hazelnut nurse with a passion fruit cremeux.
00:41:13I'm just putting the passion fruit cremeux on top of the hazelnut cake.
00:41:18And I'm going to cover it with a narrow glaze.
00:41:21Oh, so the glaze is looking great.
00:41:23It's perfect.
00:41:24It's really shiny.
00:41:25Cool.
00:41:26Done.
00:41:27We are creating little baby mandrakes.
00:41:31I will trim all the layers for building up the intramet.
00:41:34And I will start assembling together with the mousse.
00:41:37And then I'm going to dip in chocolate.
00:41:39I'm making the belly of the baby mandrakes.
00:41:41They're chubby.
00:41:42They are.
00:41:43Although I do feel like they're always kind of angry.
00:41:47Big nose.
00:41:48It's going to be so whimsical.
00:41:50I'm now becoming a makeup artist.
00:41:55Molly, Priya.
00:41:56Hi.
00:41:57Hi.
00:41:58First time working as a team.
00:41:59How's it going?
00:42:00Yeah, it's going great.
00:42:01I love having a partner.
00:42:02I'm used to working on my own, so this is nice.
00:42:03What is all that cake for?
00:42:05This is the badger.
00:42:06It's roughly probably a life-size badger.
00:42:08They are quite big.
00:42:10How many badgers do you carve on average weekly, would you say?
00:42:13Not loads, but I have done them before.
00:42:15What context was that?
00:42:16Because I can't imagine there being that many...
00:42:19I think it was a plumbing company that were called Badger Plumbing.
00:42:22That's awesome.
00:42:23I've had my bakery for three years, and it's very pink.
00:42:28It's very fun.
00:42:29It's like...
00:42:30If a unicorn went into a bakery, that's what I would have.
00:42:33Molly, I've got to ask.
00:42:34Are you a quick carver like this normally, or...?
00:42:36Yeah.
00:42:37Not quite as sweaty and stressed, but yeah.
00:42:40All the best.
00:42:41We'll see you in there soon.
00:42:43Right now I'm unmolding the basilisk head that I cast out of chocolate.
00:42:49Oh, okay.
00:42:50Look at that.
00:42:51That's perfect.
00:42:52That's beautiful.
00:42:53Okay, so now I have a base, so I'm gonna make the body and attach it to the head and build off of that.
00:42:59Now I'm an official dentist.
00:43:01Okay, I feel a lot better now that that's done.
00:43:06That's awesome.
00:43:07Perfect.
00:43:08Perfect.
00:43:09Perfect.
00:43:11I am an assistant pastry chef.
00:43:13I specialize in doing a lot of chocolate and sugar work.
00:43:19My wheelhouse is artistry, honestly.
00:43:22I'm a cake artist, but I've always drawn and sculpted.
00:43:27Our love for pastry and artistry in general really connects us.
00:43:32I feel like all of us here are artists and our art is edible.
00:43:36I like that.
00:43:38With Voldemort's cloak to make it dramatic, we want really impressive judges.
00:43:42You know, I want this to look really organic and I want the entire cloak all moving in one direction.
00:43:47And Voldemort's cloak will be airbrushed in an emerald green color.
00:43:52I gotta add some shine, I gotta add some highlights.
00:43:56That's really gonna bring this piece to life.
00:43:59Stunning.
00:44:00It's perfect.
00:44:01Caitlin, look.
00:44:03That's Voldemort.
00:44:04That's cool, dude.
00:44:05Oh, it looks so good.
00:44:07Hi, Caitlin, how are you?
00:44:08Love you.
00:44:12I am painting some blue wafer paper black with glycerin and gel color.
00:44:17It's gonna soften it and I'll be able to cut all of my feathers for the raven out.
00:44:21I'm gonna do individual feathers.
00:44:23I honestly didn't think this would take this long, so I'm a little behind.
00:44:28I did not want to be still doing this at this point, but here we are.
00:44:31The most important part of our showpiece is our mascot.
00:44:34And because Caitlin has such strength in hyper-realism, she's definitely gonna take lead on that.
00:44:40These are sticking together.
00:44:41Huh?
00:44:42These are sticking together.
00:44:44My feathers completely didn't work.
00:44:47I don't know if I added too much glycerin or the water completely dissolved it, but they're so flimsy.
00:44:53It falls apart and the other ones are sticking to the tray.
00:44:56So, okay, this is definitely not how I thought today.
00:44:59It was gonna be untumbled real quick.
00:45:03I wasted an hour for no reason and now I don't know what to do.
00:45:06It really sucks.
00:45:10These are sticking together.
00:45:12Huh?
00:45:13These are sticking together.
00:45:15My feathers completely didn't work.
00:45:17Okay, full pivot.
00:45:18I'm just gonna have to do white and airbrush it.
00:45:20Yeah.
00:45:21I mean, it's not gonna be black, black, but it'll be...
00:45:22Black enough.
00:45:23Yeah.
00:45:24So, I have to fix my feathers.
00:45:26I'm just gonna cut all the feathers and individually airbrush them.
00:45:29The airbrushing's working.
00:45:31Okay.
00:45:32Now it looks good.
00:45:33This is the last thing I wanted to do.
00:45:34Before, I was cool as a cucumber, but now I am having full crash-out moment.
00:45:40I am feeling behind, but as soon as I can get these feathers on this last wing, I can start moving rather quickly.
00:45:46You know, famous last words.
00:45:48Julie, so we cannot go home.
00:45:49You know, we're not going home.
00:45:52So, now I'm starting to build the body of my raven.
00:45:55So, I just wanna get the body set and covered in ganache so that I can start sculpting it.
00:46:02I do wanna spend a lot of time on making sure this raven looks 100%.
00:46:07I'm using modeling chocolate just to model the beak, the eyes, and get all that feather work in the face area.
00:46:14I think I'm on the right track.
00:46:15To create these feathers, I'm taking tempered chocolate.
00:46:19We have hundreds of feathers to make and then to stick onto the wings.
00:46:22And we're kind of getting to a stage where we're a little bit worried if we can actually do it.
00:46:27And I need to start working on Hagrid.
00:46:30This is black modeling paste.
00:46:31This is where I'm gonna be attaching all the sparkly lights where Norbert fires his burp at his beard.
00:46:38I'm gonna do his face up the top, but just his nose and his goggles.
00:46:42A really big bushy beard. It's actually edible corn silk.
00:46:46I'm quite happy actually.
00:46:47Oh, that's perfect.
00:46:51So, I'm gonna add some more detail.
00:46:53I love it.
00:46:54Our showpiece was really a celebration of earth and growth.
00:46:58And so, we'll have mushrooms and snails and slugs.
00:47:02Oh, I love those guys.
00:47:04Cute. So cute.
00:47:05I'm making the snails made from textured fondant and modeling paste.
00:47:09I'm really obsessed with color and making sure things visually look balanced.
00:47:14Woo! Great.
00:47:16Ravenclaw teams, you still have two hours to go.
00:47:21Slytherin teams, there's 90 minutes left in the Slytherin duel.
00:47:25Ah! Ow!
00:47:27Wow, we gotta hustle.
00:47:29I have to pour this boiling hot isomalt onto the spiral.
00:47:33Here we go.
00:47:35Water is our magical element.
00:47:37So, this is a cascading swirl going upwards looking like water.
00:47:40And I'll use a couple mediums of isomalt.
00:47:42Some pulled, some ribboning, and then some spun sugar.
00:47:46It's a little dangerous, truthfully.
00:47:48We haven't tested it. We don't know.
00:47:49I've never poured spiral isomalt.
00:47:51It's kind of insane, yeah, because this whole showpiece can just all fall apart.
00:47:56Looks good. Like, it looks like water.
00:47:58Okay.
00:48:00Stefan, Andy.
00:48:01How are you guys finding working together?
00:48:03So far, it's been awesome working with Andy,
00:48:04and we're having fun.
00:48:05How much of a Potter fan are you then, Stefan?
00:48:07Well, yeah, I love the Harry Potter movies, but I've got an interesting connection.
00:48:11We actually shared a scene together in the first movie.
00:48:13Yeah.
00:48:14Oh!
00:48:15I was stood in the background, yeah, and they recruited the extras from the locals from the area.
00:48:18Our job is to make sure that you don't get bloodied up too bad.
00:48:23Can't make any promises, of course.
00:48:24Yeah.
00:48:25That scene was actually the first scene that we had dialogue.
00:48:27Oh, seriously?
00:48:28Oh, wow, that's your first time scene.
00:48:29Yeah, that scene.
00:48:30What scene were you in in Harry Potter?
00:48:31Um...
00:48:32Oh, you know.
00:48:33Because everyone at this table has been, you see, so...
00:48:35But at least you can say you filmed in the Great Hall now.
00:48:37Right? Exactly.
00:48:38Yeah.
00:48:43Don't like that.
00:48:44I am freaking out because I've lost all this time with the feathers.
00:48:48And now I am completely hand sculpting the body of this raven.
00:48:51I grab my black modeling chocolate.
00:48:53I just kind of, like, lump it on.
00:48:55I don't care.
00:48:56I don't care.
00:48:57And I'm basically just going triple time, slashing away at the body and the head
00:49:03and making these little striations to make it look like it's got its fur and its feathers.
00:49:09I took my aggravation out on it.
00:49:11Chalisa, I feel like I'm going to puke.
00:49:14Don't puke.
00:49:15Gryffindor teams, one hour to go!
00:49:20Hashtag newbie problems.
00:49:30Oh, my gosh!
00:49:36Did someone say we're making a sequel?
00:49:38Bakers, I'd like you to meet your judges.
00:49:41Hello.
00:49:42Hi!
00:49:43Hello, Bakers!
00:49:44Hello, Bakers!
00:49:45Hi!
00:49:47Carla and Joseph, oh, my gosh.
00:49:50I am just, I don't know, I don't know how to feel.
00:49:52I'm sweaty.
00:49:53I'm shaky.
00:49:54So how's it working out in this first challenge?
00:49:56You excited?
00:49:57Yes!
00:49:58Excited.
00:49:59Well, good.
00:50:00So we just dropped by to wish you some good luck.
00:50:05And to let you know, all season long we'll be judging your cakes on story, execution, and taste.
00:50:12And we also have some news.
00:50:15Oh, boy.
00:50:16This challenge is all about your four head-to-head duels.
00:50:22If you win yours, you're through to the next round.
00:50:26But if you don't, Joseph and I can only save two losing teams.
00:50:37Wow.
00:50:38That means two teams will be leaving the competition.
00:50:44Oh, boy.
00:50:45We're gonna leave you to think about that.
00:50:47But rest assured, we can't wait to taste your Hogwarts house creations.
00:50:54So we'll see you all in the great hall.
00:50:57See you there.
00:50:59The judges dropped a bit of a bombshell.
00:51:01Oh, my gosh.
00:51:02My guts are like, ugh.
00:51:04Thanks.
00:51:05I feel like I might pass out or throw up right now.
00:51:07Can I go somewhere else?
00:51:09I panic a little bit.
00:51:10There's so much pressure.
00:51:20Gryffindor teams, you have 30 minutes left.
00:51:24Oh.
00:51:26I feel a lot better.
00:51:27Thank you very much.
00:51:28You're welcome.
00:51:29It's my first time ever competing like this.
00:51:31And it's scary to put yourself out there.
00:51:33But you kind of put on a brave face and you get it done.
00:51:36Just like true Gryffindors do.
00:51:39Gonna make it happen.
00:51:43Whoa, come on.
00:51:44Can I ever tell you I'm not very delicate?
00:51:46Yes.
00:51:47Several times.
00:51:49Careful with those.
00:51:50Yeah.
00:51:51We're making a little stack of textbooks that'll go next to the lion head.
00:51:54So just cutting them to size.
00:51:55We've packed as much detail as we can into it while working up against the clock.
00:51:59We're gonna make the scarf happen.
00:52:02Just giving it that knit feel.
00:52:04At the moment, I'm considering fainting.
00:52:06Don't.
00:52:07No, I'm really seriously not very good.
00:52:09Okay, Gryffindor house teams.
00:52:12A resto momentum.
00:52:14Time is up.
00:52:17Heather and Kate.
00:52:18Jenny and Alex.
00:52:19Grab what you can.
00:52:20And our house elves will help with the rest.
00:52:24When you get to the great hall, you'll have just five minutes to assemble your bakes.
00:52:30Ready to cast a spell on our judges.
00:52:33Look at this.
00:52:34There's a little bit of anxiety.
00:52:35Will the judges like it?
00:52:37Could we have done more?
00:52:40It's all looking gorgeous.
00:52:42Don't worry.
00:52:43Don't panic.
00:52:44I'm not panicking.
00:52:45Are you panicking?
00:52:46No, darling.
00:52:47Hello, Gryffindor teams.
00:53:03It's simple.
00:53:04Our winning team from this duel will move safely through to the next challenge.
00:53:11The other team will be in danger of having their journey end.
00:53:17Before it really begins.
00:53:21It's Norbit.
00:53:22It's Norbit.
00:53:23Norbit's mummy.
00:53:24Norbit's mummy.
00:53:26Norbit's mummy.
00:53:27You've even got his oven mitts in there.
00:53:29I love the textures that you have throughout and especially on the beard there.
00:53:33It all looks really good.
00:53:38Oh, I get this.
00:53:40Oh, my God.
00:53:41It is so good.
00:53:42I love it.
00:53:43When he burps.
00:53:44That's a great part of the story too.
00:53:47Thank you so much.
00:53:48Let's move on to the execution.
00:53:50I love the colors.
00:53:51Lovely sheen on that chocolate.
00:53:53I mean, that looks...
00:53:55That's tempering at its best.
00:53:56Thanks, Gryffindor.
00:53:57I think you guys did a great job.
00:53:59Thanks.
00:54:00Now, it's time for taste.
00:54:01Oh, okay.
00:54:02So, I'm just gonna take...
00:54:05Oh, wow.
00:54:06...this one out.
00:54:07There you go.
00:54:09Here we go.
00:54:10There you go.
00:54:12Enjoy.
00:54:13Enjoy.
00:54:14I love the little dragon.
00:54:15I love the mirror glaze.
00:54:16The mirror glaze is beautiful.
00:54:17Very nicely done.
00:54:18Okay, so we decided to make a smoked hazelnut mousse.
00:54:21It is like if baby Norbert's finish the dessert, you know?
00:54:25I love it.
00:54:26And I decided to make a passion fruit cremeux.
00:54:29And also, we have this amazing roasted hazelnut cake.
00:54:33I'm like this.
00:54:34I'm like this.
00:54:35I'm like this.
00:54:36I really like the flavors.
00:54:37And the smokiness.
00:54:39Lost.
00:54:40Oh.
00:54:41To me.
00:54:42I think it's perfect.
00:54:43Only because if it was too much smoke, it would blow everything out.
00:54:46You guys have such a nice balance.
00:54:48Your flavor profiles that you've got, I think they're wonderful.
00:54:50Thank you so much.
00:54:51Thank you very much.
00:54:55Wow.
00:54:56Courage.
00:54:58Oh, that's cool.
00:54:59That brings it to life, doesn't it?
00:55:00Yeah, it really does.
00:55:01Yeah.
00:55:02All the kind of main symbols and emblems of it.
00:55:05You've got the lion.
00:55:06You've got the scarf there.
00:55:07You've got the sword of Gryffindor.
00:55:09So what do we think of the storytelling here, Carla?
00:55:12I like it.
00:55:13The Gryffindor traits of courage, determination, bravery.
00:55:18I mean, nothing embodies this more than this.
00:55:22It's beautiful.
00:55:23I think you'd make Godric Gryffindor proud with this piece.
00:55:27Let's talk about execution.
00:55:28I love the coloring.
00:55:30The texture on the fabric of the scarf, the texture and the detailing on the spines of the books.
00:55:37Everything is really beautifully executed.
00:55:41Talk to us about your tasting element.
00:55:43It's sad to see cutting in such a magnificent beast.
00:55:47I know.
00:55:48I'm so sorry.
00:55:49So our tasting element involves a rhubarb and blood orange compote paired with a honey crema.
00:55:57Some white chocolate milk crumb just for a little bit of crunch and a buttermilk cake.
00:56:01Oh.
00:56:02My kneecaps are quivering.
00:56:09I think the rhubarb and blood orange is a very nice acidity.
00:56:12I think maybe another layer of the blood orange.
00:56:15Yes.
00:56:16You have white chocolate.
00:56:17You have honey.
00:56:18You have all of those sort of creamy, sweet notes.
00:56:22And then that would just balance it out.
00:56:24I like this cake.
00:56:26Look, it's good, but good is the enemy of grace as they say.
00:56:31Thank you very much.
00:56:32Thank you ladies.
00:56:33Appreciate it.
00:56:34Two great Gryffindor showpieces, but there can only be one winner.
00:56:43We've decided the victorious Gryffindor team in this duel safely through to the next round of this competition.
00:56:55We are Jenny and Alex.
00:57:02Congratulations.
00:57:04You are safe from elimination.
00:57:09Well done.
00:57:10Well done.
00:57:11We won.
00:57:12We won.
00:57:13That's what happened.
00:57:14We won.
00:57:15But what that does mean, Heather and Kate, your place is at risk.
00:57:22Thanks.
00:57:23We'll see you back here once we've judged all of the duels.
00:57:30I feel a little bit like I let Heather down because I'm kind of the flavor person here.
00:57:34And it could be the thing that sends us home or it could be the thing that sends us on to the next challenge.
00:57:38This is a great start and I can't wait to see what's next.
00:57:42Yeah.
00:57:45One hour to go, Slytherin teams.
00:57:47Oh, my gosh.
00:57:48Hustle.
00:57:49Hustle.
00:57:50Hufflepuffs, you have 30 minutes remaining.
00:57:54Detail, detail, details.
00:57:56I need to finish this face.
00:57:57The airbrushing takes it to another level.
00:57:59Sometimes if you add a little bit of black shading or dark brown, it gives it another element of realism.
00:58:06This is intense baking and time slipping away.
00:58:11Okay, Hufflepuff teams.
00:58:13Five minutes to go.
00:58:14Where do you want the pots?
00:58:15I do one full and then one lay down.
00:58:18You don't want it all mixed, right?
00:58:20Just a little bit.
00:58:21Hufflepuffs, time is up.
00:58:26It's gorgeous.
00:58:27Yeah, it's gorgeous.
00:58:28We did it!
00:58:37I think we did a great job.
00:58:38It's nice and clean.
00:58:39The little main drinks are beautiful with those big bellies.
00:58:43Old elements are there.
00:58:44We feel great.
00:58:45We're done and that's a huge relief.
00:58:49I hope they see how much work and technique and skill has gone into it.
00:58:56Hello.
00:58:57Hello.
00:58:58Hello.
00:58:59Wow.
00:59:00Look at all of this.
00:59:01Wow.
00:59:02I mean.
00:59:03That looks like straight up taxidermy.
00:59:05I mean, the snail, it looks nice and wet.
00:59:08Like this leaves, it's slime.
00:59:10Anywhere else, that wouldn't be a great compliment, but...
00:59:13Uh-huh.
00:59:14You're loving the slugs, aren't you?
00:59:16I'm loving the greenhouse.
00:59:18I think the story, incredible.
00:59:19You didn't need to say a word.
00:59:20We got it.
00:59:21Yeah.
00:59:22You look at this and you know what house this is representing.
00:59:25Yes.
00:59:26I think execution.
00:59:27Everything is executed beautifully.
00:59:29The texture.
00:59:30I mean, it feels like...
00:59:31And the eyes.
00:59:32The eyes.
00:59:33The eyes.
00:59:34Look at that.
00:59:35No, but the devil is in the detail.
00:59:36That's incredible.
00:59:38Really.
00:59:39And you've certainly delivered on the house elements of earth.
00:59:41You really have.
00:59:42And then we've got some growth coming from the earth as well.
00:59:47Growth.
00:59:48Growth.
00:59:49Oh!
00:59:50Oh!
00:59:51Oh!
00:59:52Here we go.
00:59:53Oh!
00:59:54Oh!
00:59:56So, what is the tasting element?
00:59:58So, for our tasting element today, we're doing a black sesame and yuzu cake.
01:00:02Oh!
01:00:03You got a slime!
01:00:04Oh!
01:00:05Oh!
01:00:06I love it.
01:00:07We've done the sponge yellow and then we've got a sesame nougatine in there, a yuzu curd.
01:00:12Oh.
01:00:16The acidity of the yuzu is perfect.
01:00:19Black sesame overpowers a little.
01:00:22The sesame nougatine is really nice.
01:00:24I don't know if the balance was there.
01:00:25Okay.
01:00:26All right.
01:00:27Thank you so much.
01:00:28Here we go.
01:00:29Here we go.
01:00:32Wow.
01:00:33We know what this is.
01:00:34Oh.
01:00:35My.
01:00:36Gosh.
01:00:37This is one of the most iconic plants.
01:00:39Absolutely.
01:00:40You know.
01:00:41You know exactly where this is from.
01:00:43You know exactly what you're trying to say with it.
01:00:45From a story point of view, you've definitely nailed it.
01:00:49The detailing looks incredible on this.
01:00:51I love the leaves.
01:00:52I love the mandrakes themselves.
01:00:54All of the different faces.
01:00:55Full of character.
01:00:56And we've got the Hufflepuff colors.
01:00:58Oh, yes.
01:00:59Don't forget.
01:01:00I think just to be safe, you guys should probably put this on.
01:01:05Okay.
01:01:06Ooh.
01:01:08It's so interactive.
01:01:10You look cute though.
01:01:13Oh my God.
01:01:14Yes.
01:01:16Oh.
01:01:17Oh.
01:01:18Ooh.
01:01:19Ooh.
01:01:20It's moving.
01:01:27Love it.
01:01:28Oh.
01:01:29Oh my gosh.
01:01:30Fantastic.
01:01:31I love it.
01:01:32I love the movement up and down.
01:01:33I love the mouth.
01:01:34The execution, I think it's great.
01:01:35All right.
01:01:36So let's taste it.
01:01:37Well, first of all, I would like to say a huge honor to be judged by Chef Joseph.
01:01:43Because it's been over a decade that I follow your work.
01:01:47And all this multi-sensory experience.
01:01:48So we used the session peppers, which has like this numbing effect in our tongue.
01:01:55So we did the white chocolate mousse with the coriander seeds.
01:01:58Angel did an amazing toffee caramel with session peppers.
01:02:01Mm.
01:02:02And then there's a thin layer of pate-free with pear and fennel.
01:02:06And the cake soaked in whiskey syrup.
01:02:09No, I'm getting a little zing.
01:02:11I am.
01:02:12Which I think is good because, to be honest with you, you don't want it going too far the other way as well,
01:02:16where you end up with a really numb, petrified tongue.
01:02:19No, I actually think that that's got a really nice balance to it.
01:02:22I get the acid.
01:02:23I get the creaminess.
01:02:24I get the Sichuan.
01:02:25And then it's almost like my mouth is watering for another bite.
01:02:30Are you not salivating?
01:02:32I am salivating.
01:02:33Well, what's a good dessert if it doesn't make you salivate?
01:02:36We're literally salivating wanting that next bite.
01:02:40Carla, look at me tucking away into it with my tongue numbingly salivating.
01:02:48Yes.
01:02:49This is an experience we are not soon to forget.
01:02:52It was incredible.
01:02:53Absolutely.
01:03:01Teams, there can only be one winner.
01:03:06The team moving on in the competition is Ruin Angel.
01:03:27Molly and Priya, it's lucky that patience is a Hufflepuff trait.
01:03:32Because you won't find out your fate until a little later.
01:03:37We'll see you at the elimination.
01:03:40We're not going to go home.
01:03:41I just, I'm quietly confident.
01:03:44Is that jinxing it?
01:03:50Okay, so we're down to our final four teams.
01:03:53Slytherin teams, we have 30 minutes left for you.
01:03:57Ooh.
01:03:58Marge, what do you think about something like this for the fang?
01:04:02That's amazing.
01:04:04The judges will take the basilisk fang and stab Tom Riddle's diary, which will then ooze red ink.
01:04:10I'm going to fill up a little water balloon with it.
01:04:14And then I'm going to practice poking it with an exacto knife.
01:04:17All right, Marge.
01:04:18Ooh.
01:04:19That's nasty.
01:04:20Yeah, that's a good consistency.
01:04:22Does this look like a good size for the Tom Riddle diary?
01:04:25Yeah.
01:04:26We're going to, you know, carve it out.
01:04:28As long as there's room for that balloon in there.
01:04:30For sure.
01:04:31We need to get our isomalt spiral on.
01:04:33And now both of us have to get this entire spiral of our piece.
01:04:37And this is the hardest thing.
01:04:39What if it's the wrong size?
01:04:40What if it doesn't fit?
01:04:41We didn't even know.
01:04:42Yeah.
01:04:43Oh, my God.
01:04:45Please, please, please, please don't crack.
01:04:48Please don't crack.
01:04:49I'm like, I'm so nervous.
01:04:50My heart.
01:04:51I'm sweating.
01:04:52I'm good.
01:04:53I'm good.
01:04:54I'm good.
01:04:55Oh, my gosh.
01:04:56Nearly everything can all shatter into pieces.
01:04:59The spiral can nick into Voldemort.
01:05:01It turns slowly going down.
01:05:02Clearing the elbow.
01:05:04Other arm.
01:05:06I hear the crack.
01:05:07Oh, okay.
01:05:08Here goes a piece.
01:05:09It's okay.
01:05:10I'm spinning.
01:05:11Okay.
01:05:12And it's down.
01:05:14How does the outside look?
01:05:15It's good.
01:05:16We did it.
01:05:17It didn't break.
01:05:18It didn't break.
01:05:19Okay, Slytherin teams.
01:05:22Shhh.
01:05:23Shhh.
01:05:24Shhh.
01:05:25Shhh.
01:05:26Shhh.
01:05:27Are you all right, mate?
01:05:29Yeah, I'm just telling Slytherin they've got ten minutes left.
01:05:31You know, Parseltongue.
01:05:35Okay, we're almost there.
01:05:38The clock is winding down, so as a team, we really have to prioritize.
01:05:43Not my best work, but diary is done.
01:05:46This piece is pretty ambitious.
01:05:48Basically three different levels.
01:05:50But at this point, we have to sacrifice things like details.
01:05:54For the sake of time, I'm just going to do two different shades of green for the stalagmites.
01:06:00You're good, Marge.
01:06:01You got this.
01:06:02You got this.
01:06:03I believe in you.
01:06:04Don't break.
01:06:05Don't break.
01:06:06Stay there.
01:06:07Stay like this.
01:06:08Okay, Slytherin teams.
01:06:09Six.
01:06:10Five.
01:06:11Four.
01:06:12Three.
01:06:13We're good, we're good.
01:06:14Two.
01:06:15One.
01:06:16Arresto Momentum.
01:06:17Your time is up.
01:06:18Ooh.
01:06:19Marge.
01:06:22That was madness.
01:06:23Oh my gosh.
01:06:24We did it.
01:06:25We did it.
01:06:26Jajah and Katie.
01:06:27Yes.
01:06:28Marge and Sarah, it's time to present your superb showpieces.
01:06:33This is such an ambitious piece, but I think I really showed the judges that we are here
01:06:46to compete at the top level.
01:06:50We thought our showpiece is going to be tall, but I'm seeing even larger than life on the
01:06:56other side of the room.
01:06:57I'm very nervous.
01:06:58You're good, Marge.
01:06:59Breathe.
01:07:00Breathe.
01:07:01I gotcha.
01:07:02Well, if it isn't the bad boys and girls of baking, the Slytherin teams.
01:07:13It's time to judge your head-to-head duel.
01:07:16Oh my God, I am so...
01:07:19Marge and Sarah.
01:07:20All right, I'm interested in what you think about this because you are a fellow Slytherin.
01:07:25Well, I am, yeah.
01:07:26We're on home turf here.
01:07:27So this is obviously the Chamber of Secrets at the bottom.
01:07:30It's got some lovely details, even though you've got the Basilisk Fang there and Tom Riddle's diary.
01:07:35So, if you have the urge to stab it with our Basilisk Fang...
01:07:40I'm not going to say no.
01:07:41Oh, wow.
01:07:42Yeah, be careful with it.
01:07:43Start.
01:07:44Oh, okay.
01:07:45Here we go.
01:07:46Ooh.
01:07:48There we go.
01:07:49Oh!
01:07:50That's cool.
01:07:51Okay, the water is bubbling up.
01:07:52I like dark things, so I think that's a really, really cool effect.
01:07:55Look, story-wise, I love that you guys have transported us to somewhere, but do I feel you've necessarily told us a story with it?
01:08:02I don't know.
01:08:03Yeah, I agree.
01:08:04In terms of execution, I thought the bubbling of the water, the color, the smoke, Tom Riddle's diary looks really great.
01:08:11I would have liked more stalagmites, stalactites around here.
01:08:16I just think sometimes the little finishing details, that is what really takes something from being a nice piece to an incredible showpiece.
01:08:23But now I think what we need to do is try the tasting element.
01:08:26Yes.
01:08:27Well, let me ask you this.
01:08:28So, do we need to speak Parseltongue, or maybe you do, to actually get some of the cake?
01:08:33I would love to hear it.
01:08:40There we go.
01:08:41Not bad.
01:08:42That was great.
01:08:43Well, it didn't work.
01:08:44Well, I didn't say I was fluky.
01:08:47So, we made a matcha cake with a lime curd and a white chocolate whipped ganache with some ginger toffee pieces.
01:08:56That's a real slithering green there for you, isn't it?
01:09:01Oh, my gosh.
01:09:04That's good, right?
01:09:06My face doesn't lie.
01:09:08I think that the ratio of cream to cake is perfect.
01:09:13The matcha, you hit the nail on the head.
01:09:15I would get a doggy bag of this.
01:09:17Oh, thank you.
01:09:22Jujar and Katie.
01:09:24The Order of the Phoenix.
01:09:25This is, I'm guessing, the final battle between Voldemort and Dumbledore.
01:09:29It is.
01:09:30Stuff of legends.
01:09:31Yeah, you definitely tell the story.
01:09:33The movement of this piece.
01:09:34Yeah, you have a great sense of motion in this.
01:09:36And I love the way you kind of represented the war.
01:09:38So, you've done several different textures to build that up as opposed to just having one isomalt.
01:09:42That's really cool.
01:09:44Looks great.
01:09:45I mean, really great on execution.
01:09:48Let's move on to taste.
01:09:49We're calling this the heart of the dark magic.
01:09:52Oh, I like that.
01:09:54We did a cardamom cake.
01:09:56It has a cardamom simple syrup, an orange curd, cardamom Swiss meringue buttercream, candied oranges, and some salted pistachios.
01:10:05I've never had a cardamom cake before.
01:10:10I think that's brilliant.
01:10:12I like the zing of the citrus.
01:10:15I really like the salted pistachios, but I kind of feel they could be a bit crunchier.
01:10:19Okay, so, oh, well, do you like it, Carla?
01:10:23What the fuck they say?
01:10:25All of the flavors work.
01:10:28The crumb of the cake is so good.
01:10:32I'm good.
01:10:34Thank you, guys.
01:10:39The team that's come out on top in this duel is Jujar and Ketu.
01:10:51Good job.
01:10:53Good job.
01:10:54I'm so relieved.
01:10:55There's so much work that went into this piece, and it feels like the longest day ever.
01:10:58But we wanted it very, very much.
01:10:59Good job, guys.
01:11:00Good job.
01:11:01Marge and Sarah, unfortunately, that puts you in our bottom four teams.
01:11:08And we can only save two.
01:11:11So you're in for a bit of a nervous wait.
01:11:14I am trying to stay positive.
01:11:15You never know what's going to happen.
01:11:17Ravenclaw teams, you are our final duel.
01:11:24Right, so diadems are done.
01:11:26Wonderful.
01:11:27Just 30 minutes left, Ravenclaws.
01:11:29I'm making sure I don't spell anything wrong.
01:11:32One of the last things is the handwriting and calligraphy on the individual pages of our book,
01:11:37which will be the riddle.
01:11:39I really need to get started on sculpting the rest of the books.
01:11:42I'm very stressed out, and I wasted a lot of time.
01:11:45I'm not happy.
01:11:47This is definitely not how I wanted this to go.
01:11:49I mean, honestly, we're running out of time.
01:11:51Breathe. Breathe.
01:11:54We want to make sure we incorporate a lot of air, because that's our element.
01:11:57So this is supposed to be our magical gust.
01:11:59So first, I get some modeling chocolate, and I start to marble it slightly to give it more dimension.
01:12:04Going for, like, light and airy.
01:12:06And I start to put it on my showpiece.
01:12:08Okay, okay, okay.
01:12:09Every time I put it on, it just keeps falling, and it keeps falling, and it keeps falling.
01:12:13It was very, very frustrating.
01:12:15Just stick a little bit.
01:12:17The fact that I'm doing this over and over and over is making me lose it.
01:12:22Oh, my God.
01:12:23And I'm trying to, like, keep my cool, but I'm like, if this does not stick, it's not going to look like anything.
01:12:28It'll be an empty tube.
01:12:29It's totally fine.
01:12:32Okay, the best technique to get it on is to get a hot gun or a heat gun and heat up the modeling chocolate, because chocolate melts, right?
01:12:43So now that it's soft, it sticks.
01:12:45Is it working better?
01:12:46Yeah, I got to pinch it on the edge.
01:12:49But we need to also remember time.
01:12:51So I'm just pushing stuff on.
01:12:53It was just like, I'm not happy with how the gust came out, because some parts could have definitely been smoother than others.
01:12:59When you do this at home, it's like you plan for weeks.
01:13:02You take your time to make sure everything's precise, and here it's just like, slap it on!
01:13:06I swear I'm a better artist than this.
01:13:09All right.
01:13:10Just ten minutes to go.
01:13:12I have never done a showpiece like this before.
01:13:16Now I'm trying to go triple time on these books.
01:13:18I've lost way too much time.
01:13:20Just trying to have a finished showpiece at this point.
01:13:23You guide it with your hand.
01:13:24Make sure it doesn't hit the raven.
01:13:25Yep, you're good.
01:13:26You're good.
01:13:27Actually grab the bottom of the shield.
01:13:28Okay.
01:13:29If you can.
01:13:30Going into head-to-head competition is tough.
01:13:31We've gone for height.
01:13:32We've gone for a lot of chocolate on there.
01:13:34Wow.
01:13:35It's not my best work, but at the end of the day, like, I'm really proud of us.
01:13:38Jaleesa!
01:13:39Okay!
01:13:40Ravenclaw teams, arrest our momentum.
01:13:43Your time is up.
01:13:45I'm sorry.
01:13:46I'm sorry we had to pivot so much.
01:13:48We did it.
01:13:49We did it.
01:13:50We did it.
01:13:51We did it.
01:13:52That's as good as it's going to get.
01:13:58Everything has to get put on just in the right spot.
01:14:01And the details, they're very delicate, so worried.
01:14:04Take your time.
01:14:05There you go.
01:14:06I've got one more feather on in, then we can paint this as well.
01:14:09We've got to hope that the judges love what we do,
01:14:11and that we can progress and win the head-to-head.
01:14:13Oh, my God.
01:14:18Hello, Ravenclaw teams.
01:14:20It's time to judge your efforts and to find out which Ravenclaw showpiece really took flight.
01:14:27Caitlin and Jaleesa.
01:14:29Wow.
01:14:30This makes you want to study, right?
01:14:32This is the raven creating a whirlwind of air.
01:14:36We've got a wand down there.
01:14:38Wingardium Leviosa.
01:14:40There you go.
01:14:41Wow.
01:14:42It feels a bit menacing up there, the way it's kind of coming towards us.
01:14:47Great use of air as your house element.
01:14:51Sort of this whirlwind turning.
01:14:53Story, we're getting all of your elements.
01:14:55I do like the composition of what you've got, but I don't know if it necessarily tells me a story.
01:15:00On execution, look, guys, you've got some great detail in there.
01:15:03I love some of the textures that you guys have used.
01:15:06The wings on the bird look great.
01:15:08I like the little sugar bubbles.
01:15:10You've got a lot of different technique going on here.
01:15:13But the kind of sense of levitation that you're getting there, the elements look quite heavy.
01:15:18Yeah.
01:15:19With the modeling chocolate, I think you just needed a lighter medium.
01:15:22Yeah.
01:15:23Maybe like pulled sugar or something.
01:15:24The books, I feel like the pages needed to be a little bit more detailed,
01:15:29and that's what really is required to make these show pieces stand out.
01:15:34Now, let's talk about the tasting element.
01:15:37Yeah.
01:15:38So because we are representing Ravenclaw, Professor Treelani, one of the classes that she teaches,
01:15:43is how to read the tea leaves.
01:15:44So we decided to go with a tea-inspired flavored cake.
01:15:46Love it.
01:15:47So this is our take on London Fog.
01:15:49So it is an Earl Grey cake with a Earl Grey milk soak.
01:15:52There's a blueberry lavender jam with a honey vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream.
01:15:56Yum.
01:15:57Nice.
01:15:58You're telling me London Fog's one of your favorites, isn't it?
01:16:00It is.
01:16:01I love a London Fog beverage.
01:16:08I love the flavors.
01:16:10What I am not enjoying are the bits of tea.
01:16:13Oh, OK.
01:16:14So I think what you need it to do...
01:16:16All right.
01:16:19Is, um, maybe take the sugar, pulse it with the tea so it's finer.
01:16:25It's sticking in my teeth.
01:16:26Is that really pleasant?
01:16:27It's rehydrated in the batter.
01:16:29Oh, OK.
01:16:30That makes sense.
01:16:31Look, the flavor of the Earl Grey is lovely.
01:16:32It comes through nice and clean.
01:16:34The crumb for me is very dry.
01:16:36You're thinking about the ratios of what you have.
01:16:39I think there needed to be more jam.
01:16:41I think it's probably dry because once that tea rehydrates, it absorbs...
01:16:45It's soaked up a lot of the...
01:16:46Yeah.
01:16:47...moisture from your cake.
01:16:48Yeah.
01:16:49That makes a lot of sense scientifically, yeah.
01:16:50Mm-hmm.
01:16:51Your cake is not where I think you wanted it to be.
01:16:56Thank you, guys.
01:16:58Regardless of what happens, I love our showpiece and that's...
01:17:01That's it.
01:17:02That's it.
01:17:07Hello, gents.
01:17:08Oh, look at that.
01:17:11Wow.
01:17:12Raven.
01:17:13We've got the colors.
01:17:14We've got the blue, the silver, the scarf right there.
01:17:17That looks very nicely knitted.
01:17:18Oh, it looks really good.
01:17:19So this is the dye then that belongs to Ruina Ravenclaw.
01:17:22Mm-hmm.
01:17:23We've got the Book of Riddles, it would seem.
01:17:25We love a riddle.
01:17:26We love a riddle.
01:17:27I have no voice, but I can speak.
01:17:30I have no body, but I can't move.
01:17:32I have no hands, but I can feel your skin.
01:17:37The element of air.
01:17:38That is correct.
01:17:39Wind.
01:17:40Air.
01:17:41Very good.
01:17:42Top of the class, Joseph.
01:17:46Oh.
01:17:47Oh, oh, oh.
01:17:50Oh.
01:17:53Oh, oh.
01:17:55Very cool.
01:17:57Oh, I loved it.
01:17:59I love that.
01:18:00I tell you, I love the book.
01:18:01I love how light the pages look.
01:18:04In terms of story, we get Ravenclaw.
01:18:06In terms of the execution, I love the textures that you guys have.
01:18:10From the wings, this little detailing here is beautiful.
01:18:13Yeah, I love that.
01:18:14This is, yeah.
01:18:15And if we're going to go into the details here,
01:18:17I love the book and I love the page.
01:18:19I think there could have been other texts on other pages.
01:18:21Yeah.
01:18:22That's one of the things I have to say about being in this space
01:18:24where we are.
01:18:25The devil is in the detail.
01:18:27Every corner you look in.
01:18:28Right.
01:18:29And I just think having one random riddle there,
01:18:31I think it would have been nice,
01:18:32maybe to have other Ravenclaw-related content images,
01:18:37whatever, on the other pages.
01:18:38Little details.
01:18:39Little details.
01:18:40And then the feathers.
01:18:41Yes.
01:18:42And then the feathers.
01:18:43So, the only way to follow that explosion is to taste.
01:18:48Obviously displaying the beautiful dynam,
01:18:51we've created this velvet-style pillar for it to sit upon.
01:18:54And inside there, we've layered multiple flavors and textures.
01:18:57We have a lovely base of a crunchy foiting with almonds and blonde chocolate.
01:19:00Ooh.
01:19:01Ooh.
01:19:02I like the layers.
01:19:03The layers.
01:19:04We then have a beautiful blonde chocolate sponge,
01:19:06a layer of milk chocolate custard, a salted caramel.
01:19:09The layers of Ravenclaw.
01:19:11We finally have a beautiful whipped ganache of milk chocolate.
01:19:22No poker face here.
01:19:25The mousse is so light.
01:19:27You have the blonde chocolate cake and the fouillotine, the sable,
01:19:30but as you're eating it, the salted caramel really is the sauce in your mouth.
01:19:36It's almost like a sundae.
01:19:38On the taste side, you guys have absolutely nailed it with this.
01:19:52The team through to the next challenge is...
01:19:59Andy and Stefan.
01:20:01Congrats.
01:20:02Good job, guys.
01:20:03It feels incredible to be safe and actually progressing into the next round.
01:20:07Caitlin and Jalisa.
01:20:08Unfortunately, that puts you at risk of leaving the competition for good.
01:20:13This is really nerve-wracking.
01:20:16I know what we're both capable of and that was not our best foot forward.
01:20:20Let's just pray that we make it through.
01:20:22Thank you for a wonderful first challenge all about the houses of Hogwarts.
01:20:32Jenny and Alex, Angel and Rui, Juju and Keiji, and Andy and Stefan.
01:20:37You won your Hogwarts house jewels.
01:20:40And that means that you'll all move on to the next Harry Potter location.
01:20:45Well done.
01:20:50So that leaves Heather and Kate, Molly and Priya, Marge and Sarah, Caitlin and Jalisa.
01:20:59Unfortunately, this adventure must now end for two talented teams.
01:21:05Over to you, judges.
01:21:07The first team we are saving...
01:21:10...is...
01:21:13...Molly and Priya.
01:21:14Congratulations, guys.
01:21:15The second and final team we're saving is...
01:21:17Heather and Kate.
01:21:18Oh, my God.
01:21:19I think the first challenge was a good learning experience for us.
01:21:24I think we're just going to get better and better.
01:21:27Marge and Sarah, Caitlin, Jalisa.
01:21:28We're truly sorry, but your time on with the baking must end here.
01:21:47It's just, you have full faith in your concept and you work very hard on it.
01:21:49here. It's just you have full faith in your concept and you work very hard on it and sometimes things
01:21:55just don't go the way you want. It's really hard to accept that when you know what you're capable
01:21:59of. 100%. There were a lot of wonderful elements to your piece. It really was the Earl Grey cake
01:22:06that didn't quite meet the level that we thought it should. At the end of the day like I'm really
01:22:11proud of us and I would not change who my partner was for anything. I just feel like I let Kate
01:22:17look down. You did not. You did not. Marge and Sarah, I think we both thought your matcha tea cake was
01:22:26phenomenally good but the finishing and the detailing just wasn't quite where we needed it to be for this
01:22:33competition. I put everything I could into this piece and I know that I can walk away knowing that
01:22:43there was nothing else I could have done. Even though I didn't get to stick around as long as I wanted
01:22:48to, I think I showed what I'm capable of, showed my personality and that's all I can do.
01:22:55Okay, good job, bakers. You've all made it through to the next challenge. Congratulations.
01:23:00But if you thought this was tough, just wait until you see what's coming.
01:23:09Coming up on Wizards of Baking. Get your buildings right here. Chapter Two.
01:23:18You're making toilet paper over there. Yeah, yeah, smell. This is the weirdest thing I've ever done.
01:23:23In a season full of sugar. Why does this work? And spice. And a little bit of chipotle for smokiness.
01:23:29Not exactly everything is nice. Anybody have a time turner in their pocket? Not today, Heather.
01:23:35But there are familiar faces. Unlocked and loaded. Oh, wow. There's one element missing and that's a mini-me.
01:23:42And Harry Potter lore. It's time for a game of Draco or Faco. If he bows back, it means you can touch him.
01:23:50Hey. And a game-changing twist. No way. No one saw coming. We solemnly swear we've been up to no good.
01:23:58No. No.
