00:00Sound of a dramatic gasp, then fast-paced, upbeat music starts.
00:05Can you imagine living for over a week without your head?
00:09It sounds like a horror movie, but for one common creature, it's a bizarre reality.
00:16I'm not talking about a zombie apocalypse.
00:18I'm talking about the humble cockroach.
00:21So, how on earth is this possible?
00:24Unlike us, roaches don't have a high-pressure blood system.
00:27So, when they lose their head, they don't bleed out.
00:31Their neck seals itself off, and they can keep on, well, standing.
00:37Even crazier, they don't need their brain to breathe.
00:41They have little pores all over their body called spiracles that take in oxygen.
00:46They can survive for weeks like this, headless and wandering around,
00:51until they eventually die of thirst because, you know, no mouth.
00:56Isn't nature just mind-blowingly weird and wonderful?
01:02If you found this as fascinating as I did,
01:05smash that like button and subscribe for more amazing facts.
01:11Thanks for watching.
