00:00Behind the doors of our mansions, castles, and houses, lie piles upon piles of forgotten treasures.
00:13I've been looking for that for two years. I can't get away from them. They are simply everywhere.
00:20Am I a hoarder? Yes. But when tough times come knocking,
00:25When you're saying movement, what's it doing? Come and have a look. How much does this school cost? I try to think.
00:31Do they have a hidden gem that could be their salvation? Not sure what's in there. Could be anything.
00:37I'd love to think that there was a master painting in here.
00:41They will need the best in the business. People do call me Mr. Miscellaneous. I just love all sorts of objects.
00:49It's all about creating a look. That's what really sells.
00:53Rock stars, A-listers, they're all in my little black book.
00:57Experts determined to track down valuable finds.
01:00The book alone would command an incredible amount of money.
01:04Oh, wow. Okay. Well, that's a big name.
01:07Oh, this is a bit of money.
01:09And deliver life-changing sums.
01:11Sold!
01:12Oh, my goodness.
01:14Look at this.
01:15This is the only copy anywhere in the world.
01:18There's a million more.
01:29Today, Katie has crossed the channel to try and find lost treasure on a French estate.
01:35I'm travelling to see the most incredible chateau.
01:44The driveway is massive.
01:48There's a bell tower.
01:51There's all the outbuildings as well.
01:53The French love to hoard.
01:56They just put everything in their attics.
01:58So the amount of things that could be tucked away inside here.
02:02I can't wait.
02:03Chateau de Londigny is a 40-acre estate in Charente, southwest France.
02:17Spanning over 600 years, it's been home to two of France's most distinguished families.
02:32And hidden within its 43 rooms and 2,000-square-metre outbuildings is a historical horde of epic proportions.
02:50There she is.
02:52Good girl.
02:53They just run all around the ground, so it's a pretty good life for a dog.
02:56Entrepreneurial couple Denise and Brett have pumped their life savings into restoring the ageing pile.
03:05I think they say you can never be warm in a chateau and you'll always be poor.
03:09I think they're right.
03:11So we bought the chateau 18 months ago.
03:16Why?
03:17Why did we buy the chateau?
03:19Because we wanted to go on a big adventure.
03:21We looked at 14 chateau in total.
03:28Why this one?
03:30We just figured that we could turn this into both a family home and a business.
03:35And it was livable.
03:37For over four centuries, the PrΓ©vost and the Lombeth-Boussy families held the estate.
03:42It was they, together, who in 1872 built the neo-Gothic style chateau as it appears today.
03:50I get emotional sometimes thinking just how lucky we are to be here.
03:56It's beautiful.
03:58And we're, you know, we appreciate it.
04:01We're doing our best to care for it.
04:03This is the breathtaking part of the chateau.
04:05Oh, and I've just noticed one of the windows in the top tower is open.
04:10It's another job we've got to do.
04:12We're on the list.
04:16When Denise and Brett bought the French castle in 2023, they also bought a centuries-old horde of contents.
04:23We bought the chateau with all furniture included, if we want it or not.
04:31That means old sofas or chairs, beautiful art and beautiful paintings that definitely include a lot of history and the people that lived here before us.
04:43The German therapist turned interior designer and Australian businessman have grand designs for the estate.
04:54Our plans for the chateau in the longer term is running a beautiful boutique accommodation and day spa business.
05:01So far, they've spent 200,000 euros and completed one guest suite, apartment, spa and treatment room.
05:14That's just a fifth of what needs restoring inside and out.
05:21Hello, gentlemen.
05:22Hey, Brett.
05:23So, look, the bad news is we haven't got any money.
05:27I'll work for food and drink now.
05:29I can't afford that.
05:32Somebody said, what's it cost?
05:33I said, we're not adding it up.
05:34We try not to think about it.
05:36You just think of a number and triple it.
05:39It'd be great if we could raise, you know, 60,000 euro.
05:43That would help with some of the smaller projects.
05:45But if we found something of really high value, I'd love to replace the roof.
05:50Because every shadow owner's fear is their roof.
05:54That's actually a way.
05:55If you can keep the property dry, then everything else will be okay inside.
06:02Denise and Brett are hoping that there is a valuable item within the horde of contents they've bought.
06:09But to find it, they're going to need help.
06:11For expert Katie, seeking out hidden value is in her blood.
06:18My entire family are in the antiques trade.
06:21But I do things a bit differently.
06:23With my background in fashion and trend forecasting, I know what people want before they even know they want it.
06:29From flawless antique to shabby chic, she knows how to turn a profit.
06:44Wow.
06:46It's what fairy tales are made of.
06:48Hi.
06:49Hello.
06:50Welcome to Chateau du London.
06:52My goodness me.
06:53This is amazing.
06:54Would you like to have a look around?
06:55I would.
06:56Let's go.
06:57Lead the way.
06:59Oh, wow.
07:02This is our grand salon.
07:15It's absolutely gorgeous.
07:16That chandelier is just unreal.
07:23Look at the fireplace.
07:24Fantastic, isn't it?
07:26As well as fixtures and fittings.
07:28Be careful, it's all a bit fragile.
07:30The chateau came with many historical books and papers, which are all stored in the library.
07:35Oh, my goodness.
07:37Including documents that confirm the pedigree of its previous owners.
07:45We found some letters that look like they were signed by King Louis.
07:51Yes, look.
07:53And that's him.
07:54That's King Louis.
07:55You can make out the signature very clearly.
07:58Oh, my goodness me.
08:001735.
08:01So, what?
08:02Why?
08:03Why do we have these letters?
08:04We don't know why.
08:05Okay.
08:06Obviously, there were people of reasonable importance who owned the property.
08:09Yes.
08:10And had some connections.
08:11So, we'd love to know more about it.
08:12Okay.
08:13There's no huge value.
08:14There's no huge value.
08:15But, I mean, this is incredibly interesting and it really does give us a bit of an insight into the provenance of the property and the people who lived here.
08:24There's going to be some great stuff in here.
08:26Am I allowed to go and explore now?
08:28We'd love you to.
08:29Okay, I will.
08:30The shadow is yours.
08:31Thank you so much.
08:32Okay.
08:33See you later.
08:34With the connections that they've got to royalty, with the prestige of the property, we'll definitely find something of value in here. There's no doubt about it.
08:47The challenge for Katie will be to find items that Denise and Brett will be happy to sell, to raise vital funds without detracting from the overall character and history of the chateau.
09:00You know, if something fundamentally belongs here, you can't take it away, but it would be like taking out your front tooth.
09:05It's like, well, your fingernails might be pretty, but now you've got no tooth.
09:13Gosh.
09:14There's value everywhere in this room.
09:19This is quite impressive, isn't it? The gilt work's beautiful.
09:23Katie may have struck gold in the Salle Orange.
09:27It's very decorative.
09:29And a lot of the French makers went to Rome to study, so there is a heavy Italian influence.
09:36There is some damage to it, unfortunately, which is a real shame, because actually this is something that could have been very high value.
09:44The pressure is on for Katie to find the 60,000 euros for their dream chateau.
09:50Okay.
09:51This portrait is beautiful.
09:52He's wearing velvet, very rich.
09:53It's something that would have been imported.
09:54She looks important.
09:55The quality of this painting is incredibly high.
09:56There was a lot of symbolism in this era of painting.
09:58So maybe there's a story to be told here.
09:59Let's see if we can find out a little bit more.
10:00Let's see if we can find out a little bit more.
10:01Let's see.
10:02Let's see.
10:33to let it go in the 1700s aristocratic families would demonstrate their status in society by
10:43commissioning portraits the greatest prize was to have your likeness captured by a master artist
10:51who had painted royalty and nobility at versailles this portrait by rigaud was sold at auction in
10:592022 for over half a million euros so up here this portrait caught my eye because well first of all
11:14she's very well dressed and then we've got the crown in the corner this is 1700s again the pearls
11:23she's an incredibly prominent figure so we really do need to do some research fantastic yeah exciting
11:32very i'm excited i'm excited for you and this is only one of 11 portraits in this wing of the
11:41chateau alone take the weight of it okay i'm intrigued i want to know who painted this we need to talk to
11:49the right people we need to get all the paintings down we need to look at them closely and it's just
11:54so exciting um so let's let's see let's see you have a lot of portraits in this property we have links to
12:02royalty so i think it's not a stretch to imagine that there may be old masters in this collection
12:10and you know you could be looking at multiples of hundreds of thousands of pounds
12:14so on that thought are you happy to part with any of these portraits we haven't really talked about
12:19that well we'd be very tempted it would be tempting wouldn't it said it'd be great to know what it's
12:26worth yes exactly if we find out these are worth a lot of money we're going to be ecstatic
12:35in county durham antiques expert ronnie is on his way to visit a collection fit for a king
12:49it's hard to believe that just up this lane is purportedly the biggest collection of its type in
12:55the world i'm really looking forward to this welcome to the museum of the monarchy
13:21i love it i absolutely love it i could live in here just need my union jack sleeping bag and i'm set
13:34local newspaper editor anita has an obsession that's taken over her life and her farms outbuildings
13:41my royal collection started when i was a young girl my mother had a royal collection in her china cabinet
13:56i need to show you the very first thing that started this whole collection
14:01it is this this was given to me on my birthday 1976.
14:07it's just grown year on year on year on year
14:15cushions teddy bears handkerchiefs a pair of silver jubilee knickers
14:24it was during the reign of william and mary in the 1600s
14:28that the production of royal memorabilia collectible today first began
14:33and over 400 years later demand for rarer items associated with the monarchs has remained high
14:43this is my life's work it's rapidly approaching 16 000 items now
14:50i've got everything going back to the reign of queen anne who became queen in 1702 and i can touch
14:56something that was there when she was to me me collection it's worth the whole world
15:05do i love it more than my family no i don't love it more than my family
15:10but it comes a very close second to me husband third
15:16but even with 16 000 items of memorabilia covering over 300 years of royal history anita still feels her
15:25collection is incomplete the one thing that's missing from this collection is something authentic
15:33from the reign of william and mary from 1689 and it was only this year that i actually realized that
15:40my collection can never be complete because i don't have enough money to buy a william and mary item
15:47if i do have any items in my collection that's worth a lot of money and i agree to sell them would it be
15:54emotional i would just have to think that well you know you you're selling this to get something
16:01better to complete your collection i don't know who knows so to raise money for the vital
16:10piece of william and mary memorabilia anita needs help antiques expert ronnie has been in the business
16:20for over 30 years i've specialized in so many different categories that if it's there to be found
16:26i will find it seeking out hidden treasure and finding their route to market is his passion
16:33i can't wait to meet anita she's passionate about the royal family and its history
16:52pleased to me yeah come on in thanks oh my goodness
16:58so why am i here well there's something i need to complete this collection and that is something
17:17from the reign of william and mary in the late 1600s but that would be pottery yeah so what you want is
17:26maybe one of those delt charges a big commemorative plate with william and mary on it would be an
17:33absolute dream come true if i could have that because every rain ever that had royal memorabilia
17:39i would have a peaceful so you're going to need some money yeah a lot of money how much do you think
17:46you know you're not going to get anything for less than five thousand pound really not going to get
17:50anything for less than that so what would you never sell is the next question well i would never sell
17:59anything that was donated i don't want to sell anything in respect for the gift of giving yeah
18:06if i can help you raise the money to get um a william and mary piece
18:12i would call that ronnie job done thank you
18:21there's almost 320 years of royal souvenirs for ronnie to sift through
18:27it's everywhere but with so much mass-produced memorabilia amongst the collection
18:32it will have to be something rare ronnie will have to use all his expertise to zero in on the unique
18:41and high value pieces there's even a horse brass here with prince phillips profile on it
18:49there's nothing i can see in there that isn't commercially produced
19:04it's interesting looks a bit like linen to me fine weave linen some of these things are very interesting
19:11because a lot of them didn't survive and i know people collect them
19:21these must be slides
19:26they're images of the royal visit this box is stacked with them
19:31the queen and prince phillips first royal visit to india i'm going to ask anita about these
19:43and see what the story is i don't think it will raise all the money that she needs
19:48but it'll certainly start us on our way so i've got to keep on looking
19:52back in france katie has spotted what could be paintings from the french masters of the 1700s
20:06this is stunning but with 60 000 euros needed to help restore the chateau she's heading into the tower
20:13to try and find more
20:17these murano glass mirrors are really lovely potentially a few hundred pounds
20:21but it's not going to really push the ticket to what they need to do so we'll keep looking
20:31everywhere we look there's something hidden
20:38as a lot of the documents have been here a long time they're not in particularly great condition but
20:43this one looks interesting it's been really well looked after which you know why was it so well looked
20:49after it's like there's some very faint watermarks on the corner here but you know for a book of this
20:55age it's in incredible condition oh this is beautiful and it's been stamped so that's quite
21:02exciting it's early 1700s and it's before the piano was even invented
21:08there is huge demand for historical music manuscripts whether they are rare early editions
21:17or copies from the hand of the composers themselves
21:22at auction in 2002 the original manuscript for beethoven's symphony number nine sold for over two million
21:29pounds i think we could have something quite exciting here but are they going to want to part with it
21:39do they even know it's here hello katie did you find something here i did i found this absolutely
21:46gorgeous music book wow we're looking at xeris collectors so it could fetch quite a high price
21:52so i think possibly i'm going to be conservative around 4 000 euros um we need to look into it see
21:58if it's the first edition because that will obviously increase the price as well so i think
22:03i would love to get someone in to come and have a look at this is this something you'd be happy to part
22:08with yeah definitely great with an agreement in principle to sell katie can now set about in-depth
22:17research on this intriguing item i think instead of having it in the cupboard and letting it deteriorate
22:25it will be good to know that this book is in good hands
22:39back in weirdale county durham ronnie's battling through mountains of memorabilia
22:45there will be something to help anita raise 5 000 pounds to complete her collection
22:52see that's quite interesting his royal highness the prince of wales i think i know who did that
22:59portrait of him alfred kingsley lawrence i don't think it's going to raise that money so i've got to keep
23:05on looking
23:13something down there that's caught my eye an early snuff box it's a lovely lovely piece of wood
23:20i love that late 18th early 19th century in style
23:25oh it's got an inscription in the lid lovely calligraphy
23:31made from an oriental plane that's the name of the tree
23:39which was brought from france by
23:45mary queen of scots planted by her in the gardens of hollyrood
23:56in 1561 and blown down 1817
24:06so this is telling me that this box was made from that wood i mean that's quite something
24:14before tobacco was smoked it was sniffed and snuff as it is known had its heyday between the 16 to 1800s
24:25and now snuff boxes with provenance have become highly sought after
24:32this myson example from the late 1700s once owned by a polish king sold in 2011 for 860 000 pounds
24:44the connection with mary queen of scots makes it special if we could verify this could make
24:55four figure sum and that would start us on our journey to raise that money for her special piece
25:03i'm excited
25:04having spotted a few items of great potential ronnie's keen to chat with anita and see if she'll be willing
25:14to part with them
25:17i found a box with slides in it yeah about the royal visit to india i think is that early 60s
25:23so where did you get those from an online auction site but i didn't have a slide projector so i just
25:30holding them up to the light to see them so you haven't seen them projected onto a screen no i've
25:34never seen but i bet there's some great images there that could be worth investigating and what
25:41else did i see oh very interesting little snuff box mary queen of scots inside the lid so that could
25:50raise you um a decent amount of money wow so i'm quite excited about that i am now that's one thing that
25:59i would be happy to sell not that i'd like to see it go but it doesn't fit in with my collection
26:04it's too far it's too early yeah fabulous great so i'll get going with those things and i'll report
26:10back to you smashing can't wait
26:12antique interiors expert katie is trying to help raise 60 000 euros to help restore a chateau in
26:29southwest france hello kitty nice to see you today she's sharing the results of her research on the
26:37family portraits that hang on the chateau's walls so i've done some research and i've spoken to some
26:48high-end auction houses in the uk and in paris hopefully to find an artist to pin a name to some
26:55of these paintings so we can kind of get an idea of the value and we have found some really interesting
27:00things out about the lady with the crown for example the crown is a symbol of marquis which is
27:07a title which is two below the king so it's in it's incredibly important but what we really needed
27:14was to attach a name to some of these paintings and we can't find any signatures so as it stands we
27:22really can only value them on a decorative level we would be looking in the region of anywhere around 800
27:29to 1200 euros on average but then with that in mind you have so many portraits here so actually
27:35when they start to accumulate you're actually looking at quite a big value really with nothing
27:41yet sold to help raise the 60 000 euros they need the 11 portraits in just this wing could raise them
27:48well over 10 000 euros it really depends on whether you actually would want to part with them
27:56but they give the property so much character and given that they're tied to the property and they
28:01haven't been bought from another property just placed here makes them even more special
28:06i mean it's a lot of money but it would do so much damage to the way the property looked by
28:12taking them out correct yeah yeah and that's what we said that you know if there was something worth
28:17millions we obviously consider selling yeah but that sort of value that it would just be
28:21taken away from the property yeah i agree i agree heart overrules head there won't be a sale on the
28:30portraits on which
28:37in northeast england ronnie has discovered slides of the late queen's 1961 world tour that he hopes might
28:45raise five thousand pounds to complete anita's collection of royal memorabilia yeah that looks
28:52about the right height but he needs to see the images closer so he's back on the farm with his trusty
28:59projector you've done this before haven't you i was a projectionist for my first job wow can't wait for this
29:06oh yes there she is let's see what the next one is oh that is amazing and you've never seen these before no
29:20oh wow look at that one two three four five at least 20 maybe 30 elephants in a row they're all
29:28lining up ready for the queen's visit by the looks of things yeah they are there she is on one of them oh
29:34look at that and she's she's wearing trousers i don't think i've ever seen the queen in trousers i
29:39haven't until that slide these are great each image was more exciting than the one before it was
29:48maybe we can find out who the photographer was on those visits yeah now that you've seen them would
29:53you be prepared to sell them i would i would be quite happy to let them go to someone who'd appreciate
30:00them that was lovely sharing that with you oh isn't that nice if they're worth something it could
30:09bring a knee to a step closer to getting her william and mary plate we'll see i'll find out if they've
30:15got any value and i'll let her know back at the chateau katie has enlisted a specialist hi to shed
30:31some light on the 18th century music book she discovered in a sideboard guys this is camille
30:37she's come all the way from paris to speak to us nice to meet you camille surger is a renowned historical
30:43book expert and dealer who specializes in rare and precious books so first i thought it was the
30:51first edition by the french composer rameau jean-philippe rameau who was very famous in the 18th century
30:58but after i started my research i found out that it's not john philip rameau but here in small letters
31:06it's written le neveu which means nephew rameau's nephew and rameau's nephew was another french
31:14composer but the very very special thing is that there is no surviving copy of what rameau's nephew
31:22wrote or composed in the 18th century so when i understood it was this rameau first i was now i have
31:30the goosebumps yeah again i have goosebumps too john francois rameau like his uncle was a talented
31:39musician and composer he didn't share his uncle's great success but gained a reputation for being an
31:46outspoken critic of french high society since his death in 1777 collectors and musicians have made it
31:54their life's work to uncover his lost compositions and so it's very important because it's the only way
32:04we can know today what he composed they don't know what his music sounded like and this is the only copy
32:10anywhere in the world yes unbelievable yes the discovery that this is a truly unique book
32:19could have a huge impact on its desirability amongst collectors
32:27so i put a estimate figure of around 4 000 euro so cami after all your work and all your research
32:37would that be accurate now that we know everything i would estimate the book uh somewhere between 40 and
32:4560 000 000 euros goosebumps how's that wow it's crazy yeah just let that settle in a bit
32:57i mean it takes my friend away really it's not because of the value or the money that would possibly
33:05come out of it it's just that being part of a discovery that other people were waiting for such
33:13a long time too so what we need to do we need to get it seen by the right people the widest audience
33:21possible the story continues and let's see where this goes if camille can find the right buyer for this
33:30unique book it could sort the finances needed to help complete the chateau's restorations
33:41meanwhile back in the uk ronnie is doing research of his own he's investigating the authenticity of
33:48anita's snuffbox that was made from the wood of a tree supposedly planted by mary queen of scots
33:54so when i saw it in anita's i thought you wouldn't just make one article from a huge tree like an
34:03oriental plane they're vast i was right we have another one in a museum in scotland hi judith
34:12i want to find out a little more about your snuff box judith hewitt is the curator of dumfries museum
34:21home to a collection of scottish artifacts of national importance well very simple from the
34:27outside but on the inside is the inscription obviously made by the same person these boxes
34:34because the handwriting is identical but the words in your box are slightly different added to the
34:41inscription warranty genuine a rose 18 horsewind edinburgh he might have been the maker yes
34:52it's possible we know that horsewind is right next door to where the tree fell down in hollywood
34:59so it seems likely that actually it was a tree that was connected to america and scots now this box is
35:05genuinely made from that wood which is fascinating which is very compelling actually thanks so much
35:12bye-bye take care fascinating this this box is taking us on quite a journey and the inscription really
35:21connected to mary queen of scots but any added information will increase the value
35:28ronnie will now scrutinize specialist archives for period references of the snuff books
35:35and get the type of wood confirmed his work continues
35:45back in france there's been no news yet on the potential sale of the historic music book
35:50the whole outbuilding is full wow okay what the whole thing yeah so katie's called in her contact
36:00simon wotton a specialist dealer of french antiques i've been at the time walks it goes all the way back
36:07to the hundreds of years everyone's dreamed to find a place like that well it is yeah
36:12wow okay this is like proper exploring oh the whole place is like a treasure trove that little table
36:27there is speaking to me wow rather than being 18th century it could be 19th century but still made in
36:36the louis 16 style but that's a very fine piece of furniture it's so simple but it's elegant
36:43i'd make a good offer on that i'd probably say a thousand euros for that oh my god this is like
36:51the national gallery of french antiques wow look at this
36:58okay that is beautiful oh my goodness that's in england that would be called an estate cupboard
37:06completely original even where they've painted it i mean that is that's a sign of originality
37:12oh yeah i mean i've got to make an offer on this a thousand pounds 1200 euros
37:20wow look at that i mean this is fantastic proper architectural antiques
37:26finials all off the top of the chateau there's some value here i bought some of these recently not
37:32as good as that and i paid 500 euros each so i mean that's there's probably like three or four thousand
37:38euros of stuff up here easily so uh yeah wow that's a conversation it'd be good to have
37:44you okay yes i got that they are really nice aren't they yeah
37:48after an excited search simon wants to see what deal he can strike with denise and brett
37:56oh hello hello that looks interesting this is my new baby one of the many treasures you've got in
38:05your amazing outhouses there was a round table i think it's a louis 16 and i valued that at a thousand
38:12euros um and then there's a cupboard completely original oak and i put that at 1200 euros so uh your
38:20room full of finials these i mean i reckon there's about four thousand euros worth of stuff in there
38:26right yeah but these have got such decorative value you know yeah i mean you know this you're an
38:31interior designer so i'm now making them something you want to keep well that's right you never want
38:37something until somebody else wants it and then it's like oh no that's true and offers on the table
38:43you know down the line if you think as i pass by this way you know occasionally with the van with the
38:48van ready to go i think you guys need a little bit of time to think about what you need and what you
38:53don't need but this looks like um a nice relationship for the future i think it's good for for all of us
39:00thanks so much guys don't forget that i'll put that back yeah no deal and denise and brett are no
39:08closer to the 60 000 euros they need for restoration work so everything rides on the sale of the music
39:16book camille has been looking for potential buyers and has an update to share
39:22bonjour camille well i've got some great news for you oh and the book to paris yes sure of course i'm
39:37getting butterflies
39:38that ronnie has been researching anita's royal tour slides and an old snuffbox reputed to be made
39:53from the wood of a tree planted by mary queen of scots herself he's back in county durham to share what
40:01he's learned i'm really looking forward to ronnie coming back and i'm really interested to
40:08to find out about the snuffbox in particular about the slides and if they are valuable that would
40:14be absolutely amazing anita hello ronnie how are you doing i'm fine lovely to see you again last time
40:26i was here we were looking at those lovely slides of yours fascinating those images weren't they they
40:32certainly weren't but anyway i went to auction i found a auction that specialized in royal memorabilia
40:41and showed them the slides told them what the slides were and they said there isn't much call for them
40:47yeah and if they put them in their auction they wouldn't make much more than a hundred pounds
40:52yeah sometimes runny some things are worth more than any amount of money yeah i'd rather keep them
41:01they're much too nice and that brings me on to the snuffbox
41:09i've done a lot of work on this i've consulted online museum archives and historical review of the
41:16original tree at kew gardens wow we now know it's a museum piece because there's one in a museum in the
41:25same timber well i never so it's all looking fantastic that's amazing but back down to earth
41:36so all those things are very interesting but everything has a little maybe not maybe it is
41:44yeah and unfortunately there were many objects that claimed to be connected with mary queen of scots
41:53when that was made the auction rooms weren't that enthusiastic so we'll never know for sure
42:02well my initial thoughts haven't heard all of that i think i would prefer to keep it even if it was
42:09worth thousands i think all right fantastic that's how we should end it thank you very much on that
42:16joyous note yes i know that i haven't reached my target of a william and mary plate but to have this
42:28little box this little piece of wood that has this amazing story behind it is just incredible
42:36it's just incredible
42:37sometimes objects are like that the things they throw up the things they reveal the hidden secrets
42:43in a simple object could be far more valuable than money
42:47in paris katie denise and brett
43:02lovely to see you thank you have been summoned to camille's antique bookshop for news about the 18th
43:08century music book no butterflies yeah me too okay you're gonna be good hopes are high that she will
43:16have found interest in the historic musical artifact that she's valued between 40 to 60 000 euros
43:26the book is here camille thank you very much safely looked after that okay
43:31yes so what i've been doing since i've come to the chateau i've been doing some more research about the
43:41book i contacted the french national library and the curator of music books uh told me he needs to see
43:52the book because it could be a national treasure very exciting um the thing is that it means that you will
44:00have to sell it to them if you decide to sell of course in french law if high value items are deemed
44:07to have significant cultural value the government has the right to buy it for the nation makes sense
44:14it's a national treasure it should stay in france yes but it's still a great result for denise and brett
44:21but it's not so bad because it means in this case they will have to to to buy it themselves right at the
44:31amount of money that you are asking for so i've done a lot of research i've talked to a lot of experts and
44:39i think the price we should ask drum roll is the minimum of 200 000 euros minimum my heart just stopped
44:56that's incredible i mean once in a lifetime huh this was in a cupboard hidden away and we didn't know
45:03never expect to find anything like this this is definitely something to celebrate it's win-win
45:08it really is and this is when the french hoarding really comes into its own thank god they hold on
45:15to it it's overwhelming it's just like there'll be something in the house i'm like no there won't
45:22with that valuation of 200 000 euros denise and brett have achieved over three times what they need
45:29to complete the next stage of their restoration work we've discovered a national treasure that is
45:37it's mind-blowing i can't really get my head around it yet and it's still going to be sinking in
45:42for a long time i was always in the hope that we could find something in the shadow that is very
45:48rare and very unique and makes a fairy tale shadow really come to life i'm gonna go and buy a bottle of
45:55champagne yes space they need more of it lots more of it so they're calling on kirsty and phil stream
46:11or watch new location wednesday and straight after more space than you'd ever know what to do with but
46:17at a king-size price a new series of britain's most expensive houses begins at nine well stick with us
46:24gogglebox has been watching virgin ireland and has opinions
