00:00He was waiting to get me back there, he's jumped on that.
00:04He's ready for you.
00:05No, I'm fully confident that Celtic can get a result today.
00:08I think it's that.
00:09That's a full 360.
00:12No, no, listen.
00:13Don't make your mind up, will you?
00:15Celtic will win today, that's right, there you go.
00:17I'll end on that.
00:18You've gone early with the predictions then.
00:19Al, what are you going for?
00:21I'm going to go Rangers 2-1.
00:22Right?
00:23I actually said the same already on myself, yeah.
00:25So he jumped in first, did he?
00:27Hey!
00:28Great minds, things alike.
00:29Exactly, that's it.
00:30That's all I can do about that.
00:32I'm going Celtic by the odd goal, so 1-0, 2-1.
00:35Okie doke.
00:36There is Callum McGregory, looks very, very focused, doesn't he?
00:40It's a huge game for Celtic, in the context of everything that has been going on this
00:45season, and it is a huge game for Rangers.
00:48A terrible start to the season under Russell Martin, but Danny Roe is the man in charge
00:54now.
00:55Can he get an early victory in his first ever match against Celtic?
01:00Let's find out.
01:01And say good afternoon to our commentary team, Michael Stewart and Rory Hamilton.
01:06Well, thank you very much, Emma.
01:08Good afternoon, everybody.
01:09The second Premier Sports Cup semi-final for the right to face St Mirren in December's
01:14showpiece event here at Hampden Park.
01:17Crisis reigns, unrest remains, the perfect time for a good old Glasgow derby.
01:26This is one of the fixtures in world football.
01:29A rivalry that continues to develop new stories, unbelievable even by Glasgow's standards.
01:38Everything before the 90 minutes itself has been chaotic.
01:42This is a game, a city, atmosphere, collective sanity on a knife edge.
01:48Football runs deep in Glasgow's streets.
01:51Winning means everything.
01:53This place is intense.
01:54It's passion knows no bounds.
01:59Triumph, and it means the world.
02:02Get it wrong, and there is no escaping its brutality.
02:07Well, it's been a week that has shocked Scottish football.
02:28Mark Norneil back in the Celtic dugout after 20 years meets Danny Roll for his Glasgow
02:36Glasgow derby debut.
02:41Mark Norneil indicated that he would make a late call on Kieran Tierney,
02:45who is a groin issue, he's only fit enough for the bench,
02:47so Uruguayan Marcello Saracci starts at left back.
02:51The only change from the convincing victory over Falkirk sees the return of Dyson Maeda,
02:56who has five goals in this fixture.
02:58He replaces James Forrest.
02:59Callum McGregor plays his 45th derby,
03:02while Johnny Kerry after scoring twice on Wednesday night
03:05retains his place up front.
03:08Danny Roll's first derby selection shows three changes from the victory at Easter Road.
03:15Skipper James Tavernier is back to face Celtic for the 43rd time.
03:19The other alterations see Tello Asgard come in for Mikey Moore,
03:23and Mohamed Diamande replace the suspended corner baron.
03:27The back three continues while Yusuf Chirmiti got off the mark last weekend,
03:31and strike card Danilo netted the winner against Tiburnian.
03:35What a day to be a referee.
03:49Mick Walsh, the man in charge.
03:52Well, a week that shocked Scottish football.
03:56Brendan Rodgers has gone, Dermot Desmond's response was explosive,
04:01and at their time of need Celtic turns to a club legend to reignite their aura.
04:07A quarter of a century on from when he first walked through the Parkhead gates,
04:11Martin O'Neill returns to steady the discontented ship.
04:16But for everything that has gone on in the East End,
04:20don't forget the mayhem that has surrounded Ibrox.
04:23Rangers season has been shambolic to this point,
04:27but Danny Roll has started to steady things.
04:30Old meets new, divided by history, great rivals united by chaos,
04:39and who knows what will happen here today.
04:42One thing is for sure, it is not one to take your eyes off.
04:49As unpredictable a Glasgow derby as we've seen in years,
04:53in a repeat of last season's Premier Sports Cup final
04:57that went all the way to penalties after these two shared six goals.
05:02And there is, as ever, so much on the line, so many subplots,
05:09as Celtic and Rangers meet once again.
05:16There's a touch-fork, Sarrachi into,
05:18Captain Callum McGregor, then Nassil-Jiga launches that one into the Celtic support.
05:24They are behind Kasper Schmeichel's goal and Michael Stewart alongside me.
05:30Michael, I'm not going to ask you to sum up the week,
05:34even the months that have gone on before,
05:36but how do they act as a backdrop to what a momentous, huge occasion this is?
05:43Well, I mean, it is clearly influential because both clubs have changed their manager
05:51in the course of the season, which is unprecedented.
05:55And you now have two managers, one almost twice the age of the other,
06:01with the experience of this game previously.
06:04I think what is similar with both is that they're pragmatic rather than identity-led.
06:11Martin O'Neill's side, little tweaks to the system, experience back in,
06:18and for Danny Rule, he's changed the system.
06:21And I think in large part that's down to the fact that you heard the guys talking before,
06:26conceding far too many cheap goals.
06:28But Jadon Magoma is the only left back that they have at the club,
06:32but he can't really defend.
06:34And Danny Rule very quickly, I think, has looked at this and thought,
06:37we need to go with three at the back and allow him and James Tavernier,
06:41as you heard Neil Lennon say, play more as wing-backs,
06:44with a bit more defensive solidity behind them.
06:48That experience between the two dugouts is in stark contrast,
06:56Martin O'Neill taking charge of his 28th game against Rangers,
07:02with 116 of them losing only eight.
07:06This is Danny Rule's first.
07:09In fact, the 36-year-old German was still awaiting the first candle
07:15and a birthday cake as Mark O'Neill was making his first forays into management
07:20at Wicked Wanderers.
07:22Raskan flipped on by Danilo, who was the hero on Wednesday night at Easter Roads.
07:37I was going to say, obviously a lot's been made of it,
07:39Austin Thrusty coming in at right side in the second half.
07:42When he joined Celtic last season, he played right side in the second half.
07:46Plenty of games under Brendan Rodgers.
07:48Obviously the Champions League game against Atalanta in particular.
07:52Mistake by Giga, and Tunecti looks for Kenny in the middle.
07:56Suter managed to get himself back and clear the danger,
08:00but had that been a couple of yards in front of the defender,
08:03Rangers were in real trouble.
08:05Well, it's horrendous defending, let's be perfectly honest.
08:09Nasser Giga not covering himself in glory there.
08:13As much as they've got extra bodies in there,
08:15they've still got to do their jobs.
08:17And simple moments like that certainly breeds a little bit of nervousness
08:21when there is no pressure.
08:24It's one for the rapid Maeda to chase, he gets there too.
08:30And again there was hesitation between Suter and Giga,
08:33and the pair of them looked at one another.
08:36It was dealt with in the end.
08:38But there's that moment for me where, just highlighting Jadon Magoma,
08:45he doesn't have a defensive instinct.
08:49You know, you see a lot of defenders,
08:52and we've spoken about them over the time as well,
08:54that they sense danger.
08:56When it comes to Kenny,
08:59and the flag does go up eventually.
09:02Who do you think comes in the more confident of the two?
09:06That's a very good question.
09:12I mean, look, I think it's been a big job for Martin O'Neill and Sean Maloney,
09:17and I think that mid-week game was huge for them to just try and reset a little bit of calm.
09:26Kenny from Negrin's header, it wasn't the best kick out at all from Buckland,
09:29and as the flag goes up, Rangers have looked nervy at the back in these opening five minutes.
09:35Yeah, they have, haven't they, and I'm just going to say,
09:39whereas for Rangers, I think, apart from the Brand game,
09:43they've followed up with two different performances, but two victories,
09:48and I think with that, and a new voice in Danny Rule,
09:52certainly they're going to be coming into this game with a lot more belief than they would of
09:55just a few short weeks ago where the club was falling apart.
09:59You've got to say at the moment though, as you mentioned, they've started very nervously at the back.
10:05What a match for Jack Buckland, doing a vital save for the penalty spot.
10:19The Rangers with three points, against the Bernier,
10:23there's Siracchi, that's playing to Nigti.
10:28Well, the interesting dynamic is from yesterday, two systems, different, similar to what we saw yesterday,
10:38but Rangers are not going to be, you'd imagine, playing with an out-and-out back five a lot of the time,
10:44like St Mirren would have, so, in down the sides of the centre-halves for Tenechti and Maeda,
10:53they're going to be the little channels that you'd imagine Celtic are going to look to exploit quickly.
10:57Tenechti on the chase, and that gave Scales a bit of a scare, but he did,
11:02must have found his goalkeeper.
11:05Schmeichel to Ralston.
11:09Look at Tenechti now, just down in front of us, Rory.
11:13Look at the picture.
11:16Tavernier committing, taking that away from Siracchi, now Diamande.
11:22Rangers skim the free kick, and then pulled backwards by Diamande.
11:31It's an interesting read dynamic, because you can see Tavernier wanting to get up high,
11:36he's wanting to go and pressurise.
11:38Not sure what we really saw in that clip, whether it was a foul on Diamande or not, but, yeah,
11:47this left-hand side for Celtic, Rangers right, it could well prove pivotal who gets the upper hand,
11:53whether Tavernier's got the upper hand and driving forward,
11:56or whether he's just getting caught and Jiga is capable of closing the space with Tenechti trying to exploit it.
12:05the captain that takes this free kick, Tenechti's suit up.
12:14Tenechti wins it again, let's help it through but only to Siracchi.
12:20from Nassarjiga to Jadon Magoma.
12:35and Buckland targets the long ball towards Cermiti,
12:38and it will have been a huge relief for the Portuguese striker to got off the mark in Rangers colours,
12:45that goal against Kilmarnock last weekend, it's been a struggle for him.
12:49Siracchi, Kenny's header, Tenechti.
13:01comes under pressure from Niko Raskat.
13:10He sees that ball goes up to Johnny Kenny,
13:14I feel quite clear but it's important that he does take that ball and link it well.
13:21I think over the last years it's not something that Kyogo was natural at.
13:28Oh that's nearly worked down the right-hand side by Celtic, Maeda still has a lot of work to do,
13:33and he does win the corner.
13:44quickly taken to Callum McGregor,
13:49Wilson
13:51hooks it back to Engels in space to measure one, it comes all the way
13:56to Tenechti,
13:58who fires over the top,
14:00half chance for the Tunisian.
14:03It's a very good chance.
14:06Could he have taken a touch?
14:08Possibly but
14:09even hitting it first time you're expecting him to
14:12do a little bit better there.
14:14You could see himself, he knew it.
14:17It was a good chance frustration for Tenechti.
14:28Suta finds Diamande,
14:30now Derek Cornelius.
14:31Magoma,
14:34he's got space to run into.
14:41Magoma,
14:42does deliver the cross,
14:43Tavernier at the back post.
14:46He couldn't find the target.
14:50One bring back to the other,
14:51you can see though,
14:52as soon as Magoma got it,
14:54that isn't made,
14:55wasn't overly fussed about trying to get back in,
14:58and cover him,
14:59and I do wonder whether
15:00it's part of a ploy from Celtic
15:02that keep the wingers high,
15:05look to exploit the wing backs.
15:06Kenny's done well,
15:07and then Negrin
15:08feeds Tenechti.
15:11Celtic looking to expose their rivals.
15:15The overlap from Sirachi,
15:16clipped to the back post,
15:17and Cornelius
15:19manages to turn it away.
15:21Magoma should keep that in play,
15:22and it's been
15:24played at a hundred miles an hour,
15:25as you would expect.
15:27in complete contrast,
15:30and this is hopefully the last time we need to mention anything
15:32about the game in August between the pair,
15:34that was possibly the flattest derby game of all time.
15:41There's Kenny,
15:44set his sights,
15:46didn't quite catch it.
15:47Danilo unable to quite pick out his intended target,
15:52but Asgard got there in front of Ralston.
15:55Danilo and Cermiti in the middle,
16:02Asgard goes it alone,
16:04and straight forward for Schmeichel.
16:08That was ambitious you would say,
16:11until Asgard obviously scored a really good goal against Dungeons United,
16:15just on the edge of the box,
16:18that one was even further out.
16:20There was bodies in the middle,
16:22he's thinking perhaps trying to whip one in there.
16:24Alston,
16:25and Maeda feeling the pressure from Magoma,
16:27and that will bring Celtic a free kick out wide.
16:31Again the Japanese showing his versatility,
16:52playing out on the right.
16:55It's just naive defender from Magoma,
17:02he's getting too tight,
17:04physically putting his arms on the Japanese front man,
17:08and it's giving away a cheap free kick.
17:14Of course Maeda's had so many battles over the years,
17:17and more often than not got the better of James Tavenier over on the other flank.
17:25So he takes a free kick,
17:28not cleared again,
17:29as it's Ternecte,
17:32drop back for Siracchi,
17:34Ternecte,
17:36Rangers manage to get the numbers back,
17:39and now Cermiti with only Danilo ahead of him,
17:42there's Maeda to walk back,
17:44the decision goes against him though.
17:48Well, you can tell you,
17:50Martin O'Neill's not lost any of his passion,
17:52he's going absolutely ballistic down on the touch line there.
17:56We made a bust and a gut to get back in,
17:58not really sure what he's been penalised for there,
18:01looked as if,
18:02I don't know,
18:03I wonder if he saw any different,
18:05I thought he came across and got the ball there.
18:07The fourth official Matthew McDermott was getting a proper ear pull from Martin O'Neill.
18:20I think you can see just at that moment there,
18:24there's a little bit of a switch in midfield at times from Celtic,
18:28it's not so rigid that Kyle McGregor sitting deeper,
18:31and Negrin and Engels as two number eights in front of him.
18:36Quite comfortable for Negrin just to push up onto Raskan
18:41and play almost with the two a little bit deeper at times.
18:45As I said, it's not rigid, there's fluidity in it.
18:48There's at times it just felt as if things were becoming a little bit stilted.
19:00It's trusty, again, Cinecti, the target.
19:04It's just waiting on that, that allowed Danilo to retrieve it for Rangers,
19:13Celtic win it back quickly.
19:25It's as Engels.
19:29Trusty, preferred to Dane Murray who started the...
19:32game at Tyne Castle a week ago today,
19:36that was Brendan Rodgers' final game as Celtic manager.
19:43What developed after that was quite incredible.
19:50McGregor got that away before Sharmiti could intervene.
19:54You see, this is the side of the game that I think is so vastly improved from Rangers.
19:58We saw it midweek against Hibs.
20:00They're out of possession.
20:02There's an element of, there's not a panic.
20:06They know what they're expected to do.
20:08The managers drilled them far better than what we've seen previously this season.
20:13Do you think previously there was too much information for the players to take on board?
20:20I mean, honestly, I've no idea.
20:24It wasn't inside the dressing room.
20:26It just looked as if it was a complete breakdown.
20:30I'm now sort of swaying towards, I don't think it's so much the message,
20:34I just think the players were not vying the messenger.
20:37Skills does well.
20:38So too does Kenny.
20:39Tenekti now.
20:40Maedas at the back post, but Tenekti's ball in was a disappointment for Celtic.
20:44Negrin's not happy.
20:45You just watch him.
20:46Coming towards the edge of the box here.
20:47He's got space.
20:48Tenekti cut it back to him.
20:49You can see Negrin stepping onto it.
20:50He's got a clean strike with his left foot there.
20:51It would have been.
20:52Instead, he's trying to play it into a dangerous area, but he gets it all wrong,
20:53and it goes right to Jack Butland.
20:54He's got it.
20:55He's got it.
20:56Tenekti cut it back to him.
20:57You can see Negrin stepping onto it.
20:59He's got a clean strike with his left foot there.
21:01It would have been.
21:02Instead, he's trying to play it into a dangerous area, but he gets it all wrong,
21:06and it goes right to Jack Butland.
21:24McGregor, for Celtic who have enjoyed the lion's share of possession.
21:36Trusty to Negrin, angles now, and ahead of Rio Hattati who's on the bench for Celtic.
21:46Negrin from out wide on the right hand side where he started a number of games as a winger for Celtic.
21:541-2 doesn't quite work out for Celtic and Engels.
22:03Roman, Shermiti, Trusty gets in front of him.
22:10Trusty wins it back, now Maeda played in by Kenny Dyson, Maeda!
22:16Big, big chance for Celtic and Maeda who's done it so many times in this fixture before.
22:22I'm worried my initial reaction is, keep going.
22:27Felt as if he could have taken another touch rather than trying to take the early one.
22:30And Celtic going with pace again, it's Maeda who looks back to Kenny and the deflection goes in!
22:41It's come off Negrin last!
22:43And Celtic leads!
22:46And Celtic leads!
22:50A week of bizarre circumstances.
22:53And perhaps fitting that the goal would come about in a manner like that.
22:59Celtic will not care one bit.
23:01Benjamin Negrin chasing it down knowing the vulnerability in that Rangers defence.
23:10Bizarre.
23:11But look at the intensity from Celtic, looking to play quickly.
23:20Look at Suter, he's looking at his goalkeeper as they're looking to take that quickly.
23:24Jiga, poor.
23:27Very poor.
23:28But Rangers, they switch off, too many of them.
23:31Cal McGregor, quick free kick.
23:33And straight off of Raskan into the back of the net.
23:36I mean it's poor defending, really poor.
23:38But quick inventive play from Celtic.
23:41Ending up in the back of the net.
23:47Looking at the potential offside.
23:50Not seen an angle.
23:54The only one I can think of is Dyson Maeda when he received the ball.
23:59When Negrin plays it round the corner to him.
24:03But Negrin gets a touch here.
24:05So that doesn't matter there.
24:09No, that looks like...
24:15So they're saying that Negrin has touched it and he's offside.
24:19Maeda, that looks...
24:21That looked incredibly.
24:23That looked incredibly tight, I've got to say.
24:28He looked offside to me.
24:30There, Rory.
24:31Didn't see any lines.
24:32But Jiga's left foot looked to me as if he was onside.
24:38Well, it's a reprieve for Raskan and Jiga.
24:43I have to say, I would like to see that with some lines on it.
24:47Because when Negrin touched that, it looked like the back heel of Jiga was playing Dyson Maeda on.
24:53Well, it looks like it's another one of those toenails that are offside and the goal's disallowed.
24:59It all just adds to everything that has come into this fixture.
25:05There you go, how incredibly tight.
25:06Roll it forward a couple of frames.
25:08Here's Raskan, he'll be breathing a sigh of relief.
25:10Not that he could have done anything about that when it was fired at him at close quarters.
25:14But the rules are the rules in terms of offside.
25:15I've got my issues with offside rule in general, we were talking about this earlier in fact, weren't we?
25:24But Lings have eventually shown us there that the heel is offside.
25:25And it is a big reprieve for Rangers because you just get a sense Celtic starting to up the intensity.
25:27The chance before from that he could have done anything about that when he was fired at him at close quarters.
25:32But the rules are the rules in terms of offside.
25:34I've got my issues with offside rule in general, we were talking about this earlier in fact, weren't we?
25:40But Lings have eventually shown us there that the heel is offside.
25:45And it is a big reprieve for Rangers because you just get a sense Celtic starting to up the intensity.
25:51The chance before from Maeda, good, quick play from Celtic.
25:57Maeda's through on goals and I just think he could have taken an extra touch.
26:02Asghar, Diomondi through, Tramiti!
26:07Oh, wide it goes!
26:09From point-blank range, it was so well worked by Rangers that it just needed the finishing touch.
26:15Is it not just, this is brilliant play from Rangers, it really is.
26:19Linker, look at this ball from Diomondi, inch perfect.
26:23He's got to score, simple as that Rory, he has got to score.
26:27I mean that is a guilt-edged opportunity, no wonder Danny Rule is looking at the skies there.
26:32Youssef Chamiti, the big money signing.
26:36A feeling that perhaps he's starting to settle in a little bit in the last few games, but...
26:42That is a huge chance from a player who's got a huge transfer fee on his head.
26:48In these big games you're looking for him to come up with the big moments and he's missed one there.
26:55Great play though from Rangers, good, quick, inventive play, higher up the park.
27:00That's been quite the opening quarter, that's a heavy touch.
27:12From Danilo, Callum McGregor, Negrin, Johnny Kenny, just too far in front of McGregor.
27:22Well read by Trusty, and it's Diomondi that comes away with it, Celtic a man down at the back.
27:36But what a challenge from Ralston.
27:41Now in flies Cornelius, the card is out for the Canadian.
27:50Well it looks like a sore one, but I just think it's a classic modern day tackle that you just can't get away with.
27:58Taking too long, you know it's a sore one, he actually dives in it.
28:02Gets the ball and follows through, as I said this is a modern day tackle, you cannot get away with that.
28:09Gets plenty of the ball, but the studs are right through on Johnny Kenny's boot.
28:15He was taking too long though the front man, he took too many touches.
28:19We've seen on a couple of occasions already though, Austin Trusty, very quick, stepping in.
28:26Stepping in, stepping in and winning the ball and counting, I mean that's where I think the Maeda chance originally came from.
28:33Good play.
28:35Just have to go short, change the angle now, Negrin from the edge, had to use the outside of his boot and it forces the corner.
28:42Definni.
28:47Amani angles to take for Celtic.
28:55Hanna he out
29:05ắngologafeitis.
29:06to take for Celtic
29:10And the header!
29:13This time it'll count, and it's Johnny Kenny with a cracker!
29:20Step forward, Johnny Kenny from County Sligo!
29:29The bullet header, and Celtic lead!
29:33What a header that is!
29:36He just holds off, Magoma angles it perfectly into that far corner
29:42It's past Butlin before he can react, but I tell you what, it's a wonderful corner as well from Arne Engels
29:50There's two players that, on the periphery, now well and truly at the forefront of this Celtic team
29:59Johnny Kenny's having to lead the line and that is a moment he will never forget
30:04That's a great header!
30:06What a moment for Johnny Kenny
30:13This fifth goal for Celtic in just his 19th game, he's forced his way into the starting line-up, and he's had an impact even before that
30:25Giga, held back by Tunechti
30:34Magoma forward, but Ralston is in hand, Kenny
30:40Well Rangers are definitely rocking, you can see the intensity from Celtic, there's such stark contrast that what we saw at the back end of Brendan Rodgers' tank
30:52New voice, experienced voice in Martin O'Neill has clearly just reset the site
31:01He's snapping into everything
31:05Diomondi
31:07Rangers have two forward here, Danilo won't be able to catch up with that
31:16For Bani Rule and his men, they've just got to keep themselves calm
31:21Because, certainly in the opening stages here, they've been in large parts, having to just soak up a bit of pressure from Celtic
31:32You think back to that chance from Cermite, it's huge, you know, these are the moments that change
31:39And really, they set the direction of a game, and I'm not sure Rangers can afford to be missing chances like that
31:50And a game so big, so early in Danny Rule's tenure
31:57Big task for Danny Rule
32:07Now to try and turn the flow of this game because Celtic have been well worthy of their lead apart from that huge opportunity for
32:16Yusuf Cermiti
32:18He's run by Engels now, McGregor out to Maida
32:22And Kenny going wide, Maida's in the middle, he's making up incredible ground
32:26Kenny's still going, Kenny brings out the best in Butland
32:32The Celtic's tails are well and truly up
32:35Johnny Kenny, I think he gets a little bit fortunate with the ball ricocheting back into his pad
32:40But the whole team's full of running
32:43It's a good strike, you've got to say, forcing the goalkeeper into a smart save
32:50Maida was bursting her gut through the middle as well
32:52But you see whenever Rangers have got the ball in possession, Celtic are hounding them
32:58That's an intensity we haven't seen from Celtic for a long long time
33:04The Rangers have already been warned, the quality from Engels is looking into that same area once more
33:12As Ralson sends it high into the air
33:18Maida just colliding with Butland and the Rangers free kick
33:24But even still, I'm not sure why Jack Butland's thrown that ball to James Tabernier
33:27Because Maida bumping into him wasn't changing the fact that Tonekte was about to shut him down with nowhere to go
33:34Raskan's barely been able to get a kick of the ball
33:48The Rangers have not really been able to build any phases of play so far
33:53Danilo, oh what a ball that is, Raskan will get a touch here, Niko Raskan
34:01But so too does Kasper Schmeichel
34:04There you go, here's another guilt edge chance, what a pass that is from Danilo
34:11Raskan
34:13Barely had a kick as we were talking about, but then he's got the opportunity to draw his side level
34:17He's trying to go near post there, it's a smart save from Schmeichel, outstretched leg
34:27Things could have just flipped and turned so quickly there
34:33Rangers turn to exert some pressure by the corner kick that James Tabernier swings in
34:38It's Liam Scales who commands the header
34:41And now Maida, he will burn away from Danilo
34:44Maida now needs some help
34:48Fair play to Danilo for going all the way back with Dyson Maida
34:55Absolutely, hats off to Danilo because it really did look as if he was dead and buried originally
35:03When Maida got past him, he kept at it though, the Brazilian
35:07Going out to another part that really doesn't want to be
35:12Just wondered when Maida had originally got past him
35:16Should have come across him, continued his move forward
35:19And he's got to go for one
35:20Magoma now, blocked off and wins the free kick
35:25And Ralston completes his case
35:28The last couple of minutes Rangers just getting a little bit further up the park
35:41Opportunities to put a bit of pressure on the Celtic backline
35:55James Tabernier turned 34 on Friday
35:58He's played in so many of these games
36:05There's only 10 of them, up to 42
36:18Tabernier, oh it's a dangerous ball in towards Cermiti
36:21And it looks like there's no touch
36:26You look at the set up, he's completely free round the back
36:30Again, he misses the ball
36:33Cermiti, that's a huge chance
36:36He's got a free run at it
36:38You could see it as it was setting up, he was round the back, completely free
36:42I think Seracchi was the one that was furthest back there
36:45But he wasn't really aware of where the striker was
36:49The ball's in at the back post
36:52He just misses, I appreciate there are defenders coming in there
36:55But he's got to be aggressive and go and win that
36:57Stick it into the back of the net from two yards out
37:08See, it's actually angles round the back
37:10Before he gets it, it comes off his shin
37:12That's poor
37:16Really poor
37:18Danny Roll
37:20Point to
37:22The two chances, huge opportunities for Yusuf Cermiti
37:26One for Niko Raskar
37:30They've closed Ciga down very well Celtic
37:32Whenever he's had the ball
37:34He's had few options and not looked comfortable at all
37:36I'll stay against that Scott
37:41As well as he's turned to win a free kick
37:48He just puts the shoulder in a little bit
37:51A little bit late, a little bit of frustration
38:00Certainly been all action isn't it?
38:02Plenty of incident as well
38:03It's real
38:04It's Tavernier
38:05Asghar
38:06Diamande
38:07Victor Magoma
38:08The first time ball in towards Danilo and there is Schmeichel
38:09Chances and incidents galore
38:10Amazing to think the 90 minutes that they play down at Ibrox just at the end of August
38:13Two new men in the dugout
38:27Chances and incidents galore, amazing to think the 90 minutes that they play down at Ibrox just at the end of August, two new men in the dugout, two completely different approaches to the game, there's Kenny trying to help that through to Tenecte.
38:49We've spoken a lot about Rangers, the changed system, trying to get greater security at the back, they've looked shaky defensively, I've got to say they've not looked secure, I think in large part because Celtic have been very good out of possession, they've not allowed Rangers to find any comfortable ball and knock it around, they've been closing them down very quickly, forcing them into areas like
39:18here, where they've not got many options, once it goes to Giga, closing off that centre midfield, forcing them back, it allows them to get on the front foot, too many backward passes from Rangers.
39:29Aspard applying some pressure, then smashed forward by Ralston, it could be a good one for Tenecte who does keep it in, he's away from Giga, who slid in, and has to up Tavernier to bail him out.
39:51Giga's been poor with it, I mean, he's diving into that, first of all, he's slow to react with a ball over his head, and then he's diving in, last ditch stuff when it never really looked like he was going to be able to get enough of it, fortunately for him, his captain's back in to close it off.
40:11Giga is wanting a short one here, but Engels is going to reassess his options, he will be a target in that six-yard box,
40:29Giga is going to now whip in the in-swinger, the Belgian takes 1-0-1.
40:37Down goes Engels, and the corner will become a free kick, and an angle to work with here for Celtic.
40:51That's another good corner from Engels, difficult to defend, then he picks up that loose ball, Danilo has been forced back into that position on a few occasions,
41:03he's just second best, not able to get there in front of the Belgian.
41:10You don't want to be given too many of these set pieces away, because you get the sense that Engels has got his eye in.
41:21Celtic have already profited from one set play.
41:26And goes to line this one up.
41:40Arnie Engels, it just needs a touch, doesn't get one, Negrin was closest.
41:46Yeah, very close.
41:48Jack Buttman will be very relieved that Benjamin Negrin did not get a touch.
41:53Well, as Asgard looks to turn this in to attack, Austin Trusty just slowly getting back into position,
42:00he's stayed down in the box, Cermiti wins the header.
42:05So that's he did well.
42:08Asgard.
42:10Ooh!
42:11And then Asgard goes high on Ralston, and it's a red card for Tello Asgard!
42:16Nick Walsh straight across.
42:17Anthony Ralston remains laid out on the turf.
42:29Rangers a goal down, now a man down, as the Norwegian dangerously went into the challenge, and Nick Walsh did not hesitate.
42:40Well, your initial reaction is that you can see it's a sore one.
42:51There's a lot of force, but I've got some sympathy for Asgard because he's just turning...
42:55He's only, you know, he's only turning, spinning round, it happens so quickly.
43:02Yeah, I mean, look, he's caught on.
43:07Plenty of force, high up on the thigh.
43:09You can understand why the referee has given the red card, but I don't, there's no malice in that from the Rangers man.
43:20He's having to spin, balls over his head, it happens so quickly.
43:24I can understand why the Rangers player is trying to challenge like that, but...
43:28Now-a-day modern football, you can see, I think there's a bit of blood on Anthony Ralston as well.
43:35Well, it's a rip, you can see, it's a sore one.
43:38Understandable red card, but I don't think it was a malicious tackle.
43:44And now, Rory, it really is a tough task for Rangers.
43:48They're down to ten men, they've not really been able to get a foothold of the game in possession.
43:56They're having to do a lot of work out of it, and now they're down to ten men.
44:01Well, the battle scars on Anthony Ralston.
44:07Leaving Rangers in all sorts of trouble.
44:11Tello Asgard wanders up the Hamden Park tunnel.
44:18Here's Maeda.
44:25The one-two as Engels was taken out.
44:28Well, the free kick's been given as Maeda burst onto that.
44:32Neither side happy with this, it's all breaking out between Raskan and Diamande and Ralston.
44:43You know, Rangers just need to keep their head.
44:45It's a free kick, I don't think there's any doubt about it.
44:48It's understandable, the ball's gone out for a shy.
44:52So you can totally understand why the referee's pulled it back for a free kick.
44:58But the temper's freeing slightly, and for Danny Rule on his Rangers side, they've got to keep clear heads here.
45:04They're the ones that are one-nil down, they're down to ten men.
45:07They've got to have greater clarity in their play at the moment, it's just a little bit too ragged.
45:15At half-time I'm sure the manager will be desperate to get in just one-nil down and try and reset and calm things down.
45:23Major test for Danny Rule as Celtic sensing blood here.
45:29Ralston delivers away by Raskan, only as far as Tenekti.
45:34Trusty with the one-two, back to the Tunisian.
45:40It's Tavernier who has a big role to play once again as Rangers skipper.
45:46With them in all sorts of bother.
45:48You just see little things like that, the ball's out.
45:52The desire, as Austin trusty, he's just picking it up, quick-throwing.
45:57It's something we've seen over the years from Celtic, but there is no doubt that that edge had drifted out their game recently.
46:04They're wanting to get the tempo of this game high and keep right at it.
46:10Don't give Rangers any moment to rest.
46:13Ralston, Negrin, couldn't quite take it but he has managed, Kenny!
46:25Oh, between Negrin and Kenny they didn't quite get the communication right and Johnny Kenny's so frustrated here.
46:32Well the ball from Ralston's not the best, he's got to leave that for Kenny.
46:37You know it's a difficult one for Negrin, he's stretching all the way, but Kenny's coming on to it.
46:43Martin O'Neill, I've got to say Rory though, Rangers defensively are all over the place.
46:50On the KDM Evolution Trophy it's East Colbride against Celtic B Tuesday the 11th of November, Premier Sports 1,
46:57and then a couple of offerings in the Premiership to come.
47:00Dundee United against Rangers, that's Wednesday the 3rd of December, and Motherwell Celtic the 30th of December, that's a Tuesday evening.
47:09on Premier Sports.
47:12A couple of minutes left of what would have been such an intriguing, such an intense opening hand to this Premier Sports Cup semi-final.
47:21That's what Celtic have done so well, they've basically gone with a front three right up against Rangers back three when they've had the ball, Rangers.
47:34And then one of the midfielders has gone touch tight on Raskan and they've not had a pass, it's forced them back all the way.
47:52Celtic showing a hunger.
48:00It's a completely different look to this side than what we've seen, you have to say, since January in Munich.
48:09The responses come from the crowd, those in green and white loving their afternoon at the National Stadium so far.
48:21But it's only one, and Rangers have had their chances, and Asgard's red card could be such a telling moment.
48:30Those missed chances from Rangers, as I said, I'm just not sure they can pass them up, the current position that they're in.
48:39You know, the manager's still just trying to build that momentum and belief.
48:43Those chances have got to go in the back of the net.
48:50Chimiti was just caught by Tunecti.
49:00Tavenir takes, Souter looks to climb but trustee has been excellent.
49:18And he's in.
49:19Headset away and if Maeda goes quickly here, well he did, but he didn't execute it to find Kenny.
49:25Kenny, Tavernier, two additional minutes before Rangers will have the opportunity, a much needed one, to regroup.
49:46You can certainly say that Maeda's got the bit between his teeth again, isn't he? Look at this.
49:51Well he gives away the foul there but he puts so much pressure on Nico Raskin, it's a different Dyson Maeda, no doubt about it, he hasn't had,
50:01and we've seen it actually all across this Celtic team this afternoon, there's a hunger, there's a drive, there's an intensity that has been absent.
50:21Tavernier takes but it's there for Schmeichel.
50:35He's got space to run into, acres of it, Kenny peeling off towards the right, Tenecti left, Engels joining in the middle, Tenecti frees up the space,
50:50and Rangers manage to squeeze that one out through Suter, it will be Celtic who finish the half on a high.
50:56I've got to say, this is obviously from Rangers' free kick, but Schmeichel, it wasn't as if it was the quickest throw out,
51:05and they're all over the place, Rangers keeping hoax, I know they're not in ten men now, but it's been a bit of a recurring theme right throughout the game,
51:12Celtic's intensity has just found Rangers wanting, really.
51:17Barry Engels to swing in, one more corner, before the halftime whistle goes,
51:33again it's Schmeichel who gets the first contact, will this drop for Trosti? Not quite,
51:40And he did contact with Jack Buckland, it's a yellow card for the American defender, who pleads his innocence.
51:53Well, I'm just going to trust he's pleading his innocence here.
52:00The two players are in.
52:03He does catch him a little bit there, you can see he's sorry straight away, but you can understand the referee's decision there.
52:10Jack Buckland's out quickly, he's won the ball comfortably, I'm not really sure why Austin Trust is putting his boot there.
52:18The only thing that is in his defence is there's no real force, otherwise if there was, you've got to say, they'd be running pretty close to that being upgraded.
52:28Well, I mean, the VAR by the way have confirmed that that is a yellow card for Reckless.
52:33That's endangering an opponent with, that did look like a touch with the boot to the head that could have been avoided.
52:43100%.
52:43Is that not endangering an opponent?
52:45Stupid.
52:46I'll just say to you, the only thing that lets him off is the fact that there wasn't any real force.
52:51But he's running the risk.
52:52Stupid there from Trusty.
52:54Well, what a 45 minutes of football, and Johnny Kenny's header separates the sides at the break.
53:02Celtic had the ball in the net twice, one was ruled out for offside, Kenny made no mistake with his header.
53:09Rangers had chances, but, and it's a big but, they are down to ten men.
53:14Contelo Asgard shown a straight red card for a high and dangerous challenge on Anthony Ralston.
53:24That has been as chaotic as the build-up.
53:26The half-time score at Hampden Park, Celtic 1, Rangers 0.
