00:00Here, let's try one.
00:02Welcome to WatchMojo, and in this installment of Must Watch, we're looking at movies, shows, and more of the defined pop culture in October 2025.
00:11Okay, yeah, action!
00:13Number 10. Blackphone 2.
00:16While 2025 hasn't been the best year for Blumhouse, this sequel to 2021's The Black Phone provided a much-needed win just in time for Halloween.
00:24I had a bad dream.
00:25Black Phone 2 builds upon the concepts and characters introduced in the first film, feeling like a natural evolution.
00:32Although Ethan Hawke's grabber no longer exists in the living realm, dreams provide a landline to Madeline McGraw's Gwen.
00:38This place, you brought us here for a reason.
00:40It's a skin-crawling setup that plays like the best Nightmare on Elm Street movie we've seen in decades.
00:45Along with McGraw, Mason Thames continues to mature as an actor in what's been a busy year for him.
00:50We're still waiting for word on a third film, but if given the green light, we'll definitely answer the call.
00:55Number 9. Chainsaw Man The Movie.
01:02Reize-Arc.
01:04While it helps if you've seen the anime series that preceded it, Chainsaw Man The Movie Reize-Arc still works as a standalone film that's one-half love story and one-half action extravaganza.
01:14Seriously, the film quickly shifts gears in its second half, going full-throttle in quite possibly the most explosive extended set piece we've seen all year.
01:27Buh.
01:27Watching the awe-inspiring animation unfold, you can see why this story was reserved for the big screen.
01:34Speaking of which, hopefully, more American studios are realizing that anime equals big bucks in this day and age.
01:40Between Demon Slayer and now Chainsaw Man, anime has never been more prominent at the North American box office.
01:45Our only complaint, power needs more screen time in the next Chainsaw Man film.
01:52Number 8. John Candy.
01:54I Like Me.
01:55Whether you saw this documentary at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, or caught it on Amazon Prime Video this month, we guarantee that there wasn't a dry eye in the house.
02:04Hi, Daddy.
02:05Hi, Jennifer. How are you doing?
02:07Hi.
02:07Can you see me in here?
02:08Yes.
02:09Okay.
02:10While John Candy, I Like Me, is a loving portrait of a talent we lost far too soon, it also reminds us how funny and genuinely kind-hearted Candy was.
02:17He touched so many aspects of the world, I think that it's left a lasting impression.
02:26As such, Colin Hanks' film brings the laughs, along with the tears, as Candy's closest friends, collaborators, and family members express why they liked the guy so much.
02:36This is a lovable guy. This is a guy who the minute you see his face, you're gonna smile.
02:42For those who grew up on planes, trains, and automobiles, Uncle Buck, and Home Alone, among others, it's an essential watch.
02:49To the filmmakers, we give it hats off.
02:51There are, you know, there are horses out there in the world, but it's rare when you actually run into a unicorn, and I think that's really what it is.
02:59That he was just a unique creature that cut a certain kind of silhouette into your soul.
03:04Number 7. Smiling Friends Season 3.
03:07With its third season, we think Smiling Friends has officially joined the ranks of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Robot Chicken, and Rick and Morty as one of Adult Swim's funnest and most twisted shows ever.
03:17All right, uh, this is it. One, two, three, wacky way.
03:22Pim, there's no way this is right.
03:24I guess it's kind of wacky.
03:27Hey! Get off my property!
03:29The series centers on Pim and Charlie, who possess the unfortunate task of having to make the world's most miserable, disturbed, and homicidal people smile.
03:37No one takes me seriously.
03:40For some reason, everybody just laughs at me for being myself.
03:43I've lost all my friends. I can't keep a job. I'm eating silly sausages off the hood of my s***box Corolla. Please help me!
03:51Their clientele this season includes new characters, like Silly Samuel and Mole Man, as well as returning characters like Mr. Frog, who might be the most complex individual on TV right now.
04:01Oh.
04:02Hello, son.
04:05Hello, Dad.
04:09I suppose you want to come in.
04:11Yes, please.
04:12As shocking as the humor can be, this has become a go-to comfort cartoon for us.
04:17With each installment, it never fails to put a smile on our faces.
04:22Vivian, get in here! Little colorful characters are running around in the vents!
04:26I'm sure there are.
04:28Number 6.
04:30Roof Man
04:30Geoffrey Manchester, aka The Roof Man, is a name you might have heard on the news if you grew up in the early 2000s.
04:37It's been six months, and still no leads on the whereabouts of the escaped convict known as The Roof Man.
04:43This veteran-turned-criminal made a living breaking into locations like McDonald's, entering through the roof.
04:48He's a very smart individual. Super intelligent.
04:51That's not even the craziest part of Manchester's story, which is the subject of Derek C. and France's hidden gem of a film.
04:57Channing Tatum gives what might be a career-best performance as Manchester, bringing empathy to a man who does bad things for good reasons.
05:04Sometimes.
05:05So, John, I understand you work for the government.
05:08So, it's a little classified, so...
05:09I never knew we had an intelligence unit here in Charlotte.
05:13Other times, he just does bad things, but at least he's mostly polite about it.
05:23With a supporting cast that includes Kirsten Dunst and Peter Dinklage, Roof Man is surprising, suspenseful, and as much fun as a trip to Toys R Us.
05:32Who do you want to be, Geoff?
05:34Number 5.
05:35The Chair Company, Season 1
05:37This HBO series is a conspiracy satire that only Tim Robinson could bring us.
05:43Robinson plays a normal guy, which is already a stretch, but it only gets more surreal from there.
05:54When Robinson's character enters an accident involving a chair at work, it seems like an embarrassing, albeit innocent, and random mishap.
06:01Or was it?
06:02Stop looking into the chair company.
06:07Stop looking into the f***ing chair company!
06:11Doing some digging into the company that made the chair, he heads down a rabbit hole of secrets and cover-ups.
06:16Or, maybe his sanity is just coming undone.
06:19It's Tim Robinson, after all.
06:21Okay!
06:22Okay!
06:23Okay!
06:24Okay!
06:25Either way, the show is perhaps best described as severance, but even more absurd and far more unhinged.
06:32With a mystery that, while engaging, takes a backseat to the bizarre comedy that Robinson is known for.
06:37The idea of Fiona and Cake might have started with gender-bent versions of the characters we know and love.
06:52Through this spin-off series, though, Fiona, Cake, and the rest have come into their own.
06:57Candy!
06:59For me?
07:05Shhh!
07:05Go find the cocoa!
07:07The same can be said about the show itself, which, while cut from the same cloth as Adventure Time, has ventured to bold new places.
07:13Season 2 has also found room for familiar faces, like Huntress Wizard and Finn the Human, who are given larger roles.
07:20Who are you?
07:20The story still belongs to Fiona Campbell.
07:24Saving her world is one thing.
07:25Finding her place in it is another.
07:27Hey!
07:28Don't be sad!
07:29I don't know how yet, but I'm gonna fix this!
07:32Fiona embarks on another journey of self-discovery, while unraveling larger questions that stretch beyond her universe.
07:39The biggest question of all?
07:40Will they greenlight season 3?
07:42Chill, Fiona!
07:43Come on, Cake.
07:52We got a mission.
07:53Number 3.
07:54The Perfect Neighbor
07:55Premiering at Sundance last January, this feature-length documentary arrived on Netflix in October, quickly becoming one of the streamer's buzziest titles.
08:03Describe to me what she was saying.
08:05The F word?
08:07The B word?
08:08Watching Gita Gondabir's film, we're not sure what's more shocking, that the filmmakers were able to craft a narrative primarily through police body cam footage, or the horrible crime that Susan Lorenz committed.
08:18And you didn't try to call 911 back at that point?
08:21My phone wasn't there.
08:22I didn't know where I put my phone.
08:23You don't remember where I put your phone?
08:25While Lorenz was a nuisance to her neighbors, and the cops she constantly called, few realized how dangerous she was, until it was too late for Ajica Owens.
08:33The Perfect Neighbor isn't just a fascinating and infuriating true crime documentary, but a timely commentary on the stand-your-ground law that people like Lorenz have used to shield themselves from justice.
08:43Okay, so you're gonna go with this deputy?
08:45No, I'm not.
08:45You're gonna be booked in?
08:47No, I'm not.
08:48Whether or not justice is served in the end, something still feels broken.
08:52I'm sorry.
08:55I'm so sorry.
08:56Number 2.
08:57Mr. Scorsese.
08:58Encapsulating the life and career of Martin Scorsese is no easy task.
09:02This five-part docu-series is a good start for anyone who wants to learn more about the director, behind Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, and Goodfellas, to name a few.
09:11It's nice to meet you!
09:13There is only one Marty Scorsese, and he is a cornerstone of this entire art form.
09:19Director Rebecca Miller not only provides an in-depth exploration of his filmography, but also the real-world experiences that shaped Scorsese.
09:26That was when Mulberry Street was still the place where they dumped the bodies.
09:30They called it Murder Mile.
09:32Used to be called.
09:33From his upbringing when he considered becoming a priest, to his history as substance use, to his modern status as arguably our greatest living director, Scorsese recounts a life that can only be described as cinematic.
09:44I went to a restaurant one night, sat at the table, and I heard the maitre d' lean over to one of the waiters as he went by and says, I see we have the Antichrist with us tonight.
09:52Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, Steven Spielberg, and numerous others also provide insight into the man, the myth, the legend that is Mr. Scorsese.
10:01You know, you can't give all of yourself to every film that's sort of in the same way, or you would probably...
10:08Well, that's what my doctor told me.
10:09...die.

10:26Number 1.
10:28Tron Ares
10:29Between Morbius, Haunted Mansion, and now Tron Ares, it makes perfect sense why Hollywood keeps casting Jared Leto in multi-million dollar projects.
10:37Okay, okay, just kidding.
10:39On to our real pick.
10:40I'm looking for something.
10:47Something I do not understand.
10:49Number 1.
10:51Frankenstein
10:51Guillermo del Toro adapting Mary Shelley's classic horror novel.
10:56How can you go wrong?
10:57Victor.
10:58Frankenstein.
11:02Well, Dr. Frankenstein's experiment may have some unforeseen casualties, but del Toro's vision of this immortal story roars to life.
11:09It's another masterstroke of craft from del Toro, with production design, costumes, and makeup effects that are sure to be in contention come Oscar time.
11:17I demand a single grace from you.
11:20We'd also love to see a Best Supporting Actor nomination for Jacob Elordi as the creature.
11:24While Oscar Isaac, Mia Goth, and David Bradley also deliver standout work, Elordi delivers the biggest swing in a physically and emotionally transformative performance that gives this monster movie a beating heart.
11:36For those who missed it in theaters this month, be sure to stream Frankenstein on Netflix come November.
11:41Now, run.
