00:00This morning, a shocking close call at Boston Logan Airport.
00:09What the heck?
00:11According to Flightradar24, a Delta flight from Paris with nearly 300 people on board
00:16was coming in for landing yesterday about to touch down
00:19when a Cape Air flight was speeding down an intersecting runway for takeoff.
00:24Air traffic control instantly ordering the Delta jet to abort its landing and go around.
00:28Delta 263, how do you go around and turn 10 degrees left?
00:34For Delta 263.
00:36Both pilots in disbelief.
00:38That was close.
00:39Yeah, man, not cool.
00:40The Delta plane just 125 feet off the ground before boarding their landing
00:44and forced to climb to avoid a collision.
00:47In this case, somebody made a mistake, but the controller also noticed the mistake quickly
00:52and was able to tell the Delta jet to go around
00:55and the Cape Air aircraft to duck underneath, to stay low.
00:59So that increased the separation and made sure that this wasn't a near midair collision.
01:04Delta telling ABC the crew followed established procedures and landed safely without incident.
01:10But this is the latest scare in the sky just this week.
01:13Dramatic new videos showing the damage inside the cabin of a jet blue flight to Newark
01:17that suddenly lost altitude while flying from Cancun.
01:20That flight making an emergency landing in Tampa.
01:26Several passengers and crew uninjured.
01:28I just felt like I was going to die.
01:30Passenger Tarika Turner saying it felt like a sudden drop on a roller coaster.
01:35Drinks and items sent flying.
01:37Even with my seatbelt, I flew up and everything flew in my face
01:40and I slammed back down on the table and hit my head.
01:43Jet blue telling us our team has taken the aircraft out of service for inspection
01:47and we will conduct a full investigation to determine the cause.
01:51Both incidents happening as weather and staffing shortages continue to cause travel disruptions
01:55and delays across the country.
01:57According to the FAA, nearly 50 percent of major air traffic control facilities
02:01are experiencing staffing shortages
02:03and nearly 80 percent of air traffic controllers are out at New York area facilities.
02:09And with that said, the FAA this morning is calling for the shutdown to end
02:13so that controllers can get paid and travelers can avoid further disruptions.
02:17They do stress that safety will never be compromised.
02:20And when staffing shortages happen, they'll slow the flow of air traffic,
02:23if needed, to keep the sky safe.
02:26But such a ripple effect here that we're seeing with the shutdown.
02:28It really is.
02:29Because then that means more delays and cancellations.
