00:00Trump offers up weak explanation for how Argentina bailout is America first.
00:05President Donald Trump struggled to justify how his $40 billion bailout package for Argentina
00:10fits within his America first agenda,
00:14offering a vague defense during Argentine President Javier Miele's visit to the White House.
00:19Facing questions about whether the bailout serves U.S. interests or props up Miele's-y faltering government,
00:25Trump insisted the deal was about promoting a good financial philosophy.
00:30No, it's really meant to help a good financial philosophy,
00:33where Argentina can, after 20 years of disaster,
00:36because it was very successful at one point, and it can be again, like Venezuela, Trump responded.
00:42He added that the U.S. is making tremendous progress in South America,
00:47crediting Secretary of State Marco Rubio for helping build regional ties.
00:51It has been reported that half of the bailout funding will come from private banks,
00:55while the U.S. Treasury will provide the other half.
00:58The administration claims the aid is essential to prevent Argentina's economy from collapsing
01:03after Miele's deep spending cuts.
01:06Representative Green harshly condemned the bailout during an appearance on the Tucker Carlson show,
01:11calling it probably one of the grossest things I've ever seen.
01:14She accused establishment Republicans of steering Trump away from his core base
01:19and warned that Washington elites are hijacking the Make America Great Again movement.
01:25I have no idea who is telling our America First president that this is a good idea, Green said.
01:31It's a punch in the gut to all of our American cattle ranchers.
01:35I can't think of another country further away from the United States than Argentina.
01:38I don't know how that's America First.
01:42Facing criticism from green and rural voters,
01:45Trump took to Truth Social to argue that his trade policies have actually strengthened U.S. ranchers.
01:51The cattle ranchers, who I love, don't understand that the only reason they are doing so well
01:56is because I put tariffs on cattle coming into the United States,
02:00including a 50 percent tariff on Brazil, he wrote.
02:03He added that lower beef prices are also necessary for consumers.
02:08The bailout has seemingly left Trump defending a policy many see as contradicting his nationalist rhetoric,
02:15revealing new cracks inside the Make America Great Again coalition.
02:19Representative Green's rebuke underscores a growing divide within the Republican Party
02:23between Trump loyalists and populist purists.
02:28Washington, D.C. is unchangeable, Green told Carlson on his show.
02:32They have hijacked our movement and turned it into everything we hate.
02:37Globalism, foreign bailouts, and industries moving overseas.
