00:00Welcome to a new video from the Car Magazine Tuning Block on the topic of the Opel Astra
00:09Electric. It doesn't always have to be an SUV, because even in the age of electromobility,
00:16the classic station wagon shows its strengths and the Opel Astra Electric is the best proof
00:20of that. Before we get started, please remember to subscribe to us so that you don't miss any news.
00:26The market for electric station wagons in Germany is surprisingly thin.
00:32Apart from the MG5 and high-priced models such as the Porsche Taycan Turismo and the Neo ET5,
00:38there have been hardly any options for the masses so far. But that is now changing.
00:44With the Astra Electric, Opel is launching the first fully electric station wagon from a German
00:49manufacturer, which should be of interest to many buyers. Up until now, the Astra was available as
00:56a plug-in hybrid diesel and petrol engine. Since summer 2023, it has also been available as a
01:02fully electric sedan and from now on the sports tourer is expanding the range.
01:07The ADAC took a closer look at the sedan in the extensively equipped Jess version.
01:13With a purchase price of over €45,000, it is no bargain, but Opel promises economical consumption.
01:20Does the Astra Electric keep this promise? Visually, the electric car is like two peas in a pod with its
01:27conventional siblings. In the interior, Opel does not rely on a minimalist touchscreen design like
01:34many other iCars, but retains physical buttons for important functions. This makes operating the
01:40air conditioning system, for example, more intuitive. Apple CarPlay is available wirelessly and a separate
01:46navigation system can be added as an option. However, there is no really convenient charging
01:52plan, so you have to make your way from charging station to charging station. The battery is installed
01:57in the underbody to save space, which means that neither the passenger nor the luggage compartment are
02:02restricted. According to ADC measurements, 260L fit under the boot cover, up to 365L without the cover.
02:10If you use the space behind the front seats to the full, up to 180L are available.
02:18A small downside is the permissible payload of just 406 kg for the test vehicle.
02:25Under the hood is a newly developed electric motor with 115 kW, 156 hp and a powerful torque of 270 Nm.
02:33The top speed is a governed 170 km per hour, making the Astra Electric faster than a VW ID.3, for example.
02:42The battery has a capacity of 54 kWh. Opel promises a range of 418 km according to WLTP.
02:50In the ADAC EcoTest, the Astra Electric achieved a practical range of 350 km.
02:56An impressive value that can even approach 400 km in city traffic.
03:00One highlight is the low consumption, including charging losses, the ADAC determined a consumption
03:06of just 60.5 kWh per 100 km. This makes the Astra Electric significantly more economical than
03:13competitors such as the MG5 or the Porsche Taycan Sport Tour. It also owes its full 5 stars in the
03:19EcoTest to this efficiency. When charging at a fast charging station, the Astra Electric achieves a
03:26maximum output of 107 kW to 80% in around 31 minutes. Although the charging capacity could be higher,
03:3511 kW are possible as standard at the domestic wallbox.
03:39Opel only offers gear B for recuperation. Unfortunately, there are no multi-stage deceleration
03:45options or the so-called one-pedal driving feature. The Astra Electric impresses across the board in terms
03:51of driving dynamics. The noise reduction is excellent and the chassis offers a good compromise between
03:57comfort and sportiness. The steering is precise and provides an agile driving experience, especially
04:03on winding roads. Compared to some other electric cars, the Astra feels livelier and more direct.
04:10The GS line starts at €45,000. The basic version costs around €42,000. That's not cheap, but it's
04:20certainly competitive compared to the competition. The basic version already comes with extensive
04:26equipment and includes, among other things, a heat pump, fatigue detection and various assistance
04:31systems. With the sports tour, Opel is now also offering an electric estate car with a generous boot
04:38volume of 516L. This is a real selling point for practically oriented customers. Prices for the
04:46station wagon start at €43,500. The GS Vion costs around €3,000 more. In conclusion, the Opel Astra
04:56Electric impressively demonstrates that electromobility and everyday usability can go hand-in-hand.
