00:03Today we're talking about xenon bulbs, specifically the Osram Night Breaker.
00:10Yes, this is a way to retrofit an improved version of a gas discharge lamp in an existing xenon headlight.
00:18Why are we doing this post now?
00:20Well, we're doing it because of our tuning Wikipedia.
00:24This article recently went online.
00:26It was about the LED Night Breaker.
00:30This is a legal way to retrofit LED technology in a halogen headlight.
00:36However, it's still relatively limited to a few vehicles at the moment, but it shows where things are headed.
00:43Osram has now made it ready for series production, so you can install it as a plug-and-play solution.
00:50As a result of this article, we've received quite a few inquiries about the possibilities of using these LED bulbs as an alternative to xenon bulbs.
00:58Uh, yes, there is simply no way to do this because, as I said, LED bulbs are only suitable for halogen headlights and cannot be retrofitted to xenon headlights.
01:11So, that doesn't work.
01:13However, with the Night Breaker Xenon version, there is a way to improve existing xenon headlights and achieve better lighting results, and of course, with full approval.
01:23The light cone is supposed to be up to 250 meters long and 20% wider light.
01:38I don't know what else they promise.
01:41We'll just try it out.
01:43The most important thing is the ECE approval, so that you can install and use it.
01:48And, uh, what's also important is that it is available as a D1S, D2S, D3S and also D4S xenon bulb.
01:57So, for virtually every vehicle model that is equipped with, uh, standard headlight technology.
02:01Um, I think the price was around 130 euros.
02:06That's pretty sporty, I'd say.
02:08Then there's the cost of installation.
02:12Um, I'll show you how to install it in a short edited video.
02:18But that's not what we're going to talk about now, I just want to show you what the difference is between a conventional xenon bulb.
02:23In our case, we're talking about the Audi A3, which is factory fitted with xenon.
02:29And yes, how does it compare to the Osram Nightbreaker?
02:34Um, on the xenon headlight itself, let's say, you can change the bulbs, everyone has to decide for themselves.
02:41Um, there are up to 25,000 volts there.
02:44You can do a lot of damage there, you can do a lot of damage to your own body, but also to the car.
02:49That's why we won't provide detailed installation instructions, we won't do that.
02:53There are thousands of other tutorials on the internet, feel free to watch them.
02:59Um, we'll show you three or four photos, let's say, of the installation in the Audi and essentially the difference to the conventional bulb.
03:09Okay, now in the following video I'll first show you the original headlights in the dark.
03:15Um, what the illumination is like, what they look like from the outside, what they look like from the interior of the car, high beam and low beam.
03:23And next, a few pictures of the installation and then the effect when the Osrams are in, in the same place, same darkness, let's say, um, another try and a direct comparison.
03:38So, now a quick comparison again.
03:40So, these are currently, so right now the daytime running lights are switched on.
03:44Now I'll turn on the normal low beam with the old xenon bulbs.
03:49I'll let them charge for a moment.
03:52The one on the right is already flickering a bit.
03:55So, yeah, it's definitely over.
03:57And yes, I actually thought the flickering would stop.
04:04But it's stopped now.
04:06And this is still the high beam.
04:10And now I'll show you exactly the same position again with the new bulbs and yes, maybe also quickly from the outside.
04:16So, the normal low beam, I think you probably won't see anything more than an overexposed screen.
04:38But yes, let's try it out.
04:40Exactly, now the view from the outside again.
04:52Yes, and the high beam again.
04:54Well, as I said, it's an absolute disaster, especially while driving.
04:57I think it looks even better on the smartphone than it actually is.
05:02Um, I think when it comes up, there are 35 meters, um, if at all, illuminated enough that you can say you can see what's going on.
05:10Sure, the light continues to shine, but not so much that you can actually see anything.
05:17So, you can only sort it out.
05:19Of course, if you drive faster than 30, 40, 50 kilometers per hour, then things get interesting.
05:26So, um, another quick picture from outside.
05:30It's still relatively flat, so these are the old ones.
05:32And now we're going to see three, four F pictures of the new ones, how I installed them and then the new ones.
06:02So, number one is now in and it's on the left side, the passenger side.
06:10And now I'll show you another difference, um, yeah, between the old one on the right side and the new Osram one on the left side.
06:16By the way, the old one was also an Osram bulb, but yeah, it's probably slowly but surely past its peak.
06:24So, when starting from the left bulb of the new one, it's definitely much bluer at first
06:54So, I'm going to install the other side on the right now.
06:59I think you can already see a little bit that it's definitely more yellowish on the right and weaker in general.
07:03Um, yeah, I'm going to install it on the right now, on the driver's side.
07:08Uh, and then I'll show you, when both are in, then we'll do the comparison again in this, yes, in this small forest area.
07:15I'll stand in exactly the same place again and then we'll see if we can see a difference.
07:20So, the installation was successful after all.
07:26However, for some reason, it was much more difficult on the driver's side, because I then had to remove the bumper and the headlight, because I couldn't manage to install the xenon bolt.
07:38I got the old one out.
07:41I probably put the new one in a bit too far to the left and then this little green ring, the locking mechanism, was so messed up that you couldn't get it out anymore.
07:50So I took the bumper down, took the headlight out, half an hour more work, but everything worked out well.
07:58Now, uh, okay, now I've turned on the lights, the normal low beam.
08:04Uh, yes, I could already see after the first few meters that it was simply brighter.
08:09Shines better.
08:10Um, I don't know if it shines any further.
08:12At least it doesn't necessarily look like it here, but it is definitely significantly brighter than the other bulbs and also the high beam here.
08:23Um, yeah, so it was definitely worth it.
08:26As I said, whether this is 200% plus or whatever, I'll leave that aside.
08:31It's simply a much brighter light and, um, yes, nothing flickers here anymore.
08:36The old xenon bulb was apparently already broken.
08:41And, um, from what I've heard, the xenon bulbs also have to be run for a few hours before they develop their full brightness and it will probably increase a bit.
08:49So, it's only just been installed, maybe 10 minutes of running.
08:56Um, so maybe we can't say anything definitive yet, if it improves a bit more, all the better.
09:01But already, as I said, the light is much brighter, everything is good, it worked, so we can definitely recommend it.
