00:00I have conducted many casting calls for the last 25 years.
00:16I have used everything from posting flyers to paying for ads in newspapers and magazines, websites, and platforms.
00:23I used to network at parties and events.
00:27However, there has been one thing that has been constant.
00:31The ones applying to the casting calls usually never do what is asked of them to get the
00:35gig because, in many cases, they actually haven't read all the details.
00:40I could have literally stated that I want to murder them, which would be insane, but
00:44they wouldn't even know if it was true until that very day.
00:47On many occasions, I would have to, like in a movie, retcon or retroactively change my
00:52own casting call to actually hire someone.
00:55If not, none of them would be candidates.
00:58I am currently holding a casting call and asked for each applicant to make a video of
01:03why they're all interested in them.
01:05So far, one applicant did.
01:07The rest have not read the entire casting call.
01:10The rest, or some of them, have been reaching out to me on other platforms like Facebook
01:16and Instagram to get the gig, which is interesting within itself.
01:20Why do people go to other platforms to reach out?
01:23Because they already responded on the initial website, and yes, some of them cannot respond
01:28due to not paying for a membership on that website.
01:31Some want to get paid more, but the pay is set in stone, yet they have the goal to ask for more.
01:36Other times, when I find the right match, they try to change what the gig entails when they
01:41already agree to the terms.
01:44I had this one model, for whom I paid for her transportation.
01:47She brought her boyfriend, which was fine, but now, we couldn't shoot what we agreed on
01:52because her boyfriend would be upset.
01:54I didn't want to pay her, although I did anyway.
01:57I ended up with an alternate project instead.
02:01Sometimes, I find individuals on my own and reach out.
02:05I have worked with talented people all over the world.
02:08The money always seems to excite them, and they are very gung-ho from the jump, but simple details,
02:13like sending the video in landscape or sending the video at 1080p or higher,
02:17seem to be these talented people's kryptonite.
02:20And instead of re-recording with no worries, they don't want to do a redo.
02:24Suddenly, their motivation has dropped, and now they hand in a lackluster product.
02:30Or even someone who you want to get feedback from, or help in promoting the product,
02:35seems to be immediately forgotten and not applicable now.
02:38I don't know if it is a low attention span or failing to write things down,
02:42it almost seems like that conversation between me and that person never happened.
02:46And contracts, oh boy, they don't even matter, anything with words is also kryptonite.
02:51I might as well have written the contract in a dead language, it would make more sense.
02:57There are many examples I can give about casting calls and gigs, but what it comes down to is this,
03:03these individuals are plain professional but are not actually professional.
03:07But these are supposed to be the professionals in the industry.
03:11I don't know how I would do things going forward.
03:13I do know one thing, my life is not boring.
03:16I do know one thing, my life is not boring.
