00:00
We are here with the one, the only, Melissa Gorger.
00:02
We're going to talk all about Wife Swap, Real Housewives Edition.
00:05
Your episode was so much fun.
00:07
I mean, this whole show, the concept of it is just pure reality TV gold.
00:12
Your episode especially.
00:13
What made you decide to do this show?
00:16
It was not an easy decision.
00:18
I said no before I said yes.
00:20
Then I got a couple phone calls saying to me,
00:23
like, you guys would be so great on this.
00:25
And I thought about it, and I'm like, Wife Swap is iconic.
00:28
I'm like, I used to watch that when I was young.
00:31
I remember it back in the day.
00:33
And I'm like, when am I ever going to get a chance
00:36
to, like, live in somebody else's house again
00:38
and, like, do something like this?
00:40
So I just decided to go for it.
00:42
It was pretty wild. Crazy.
00:44
You're coming from this very neat, organized, clean home
00:47
into this home that's maybe a little bit more laid back,
00:50
a little less so.
00:51
My house is so, like, monochromatic and clean lines
00:56
and extremely organized, extremely neat.
01:00
Like, you can tell that they live here.
01:02
What were your first thoughts
01:03
when you walked into the Clark residence?
01:07
That I needed to organize it immediately.
01:09
I had a little anxiety, and I understood
01:12
as soon as I got there, like, why they picked this family
01:16
to swap with me because I was like, okay, I get it.
01:19
I see what's happening here.
01:21
But ultimately, they were so amazing.
01:24
I learned so much from them.
01:25
I fell in love with their children.
01:27
The little one, oh, my God, Maverick, so cute.
01:31
Like, who knew that I would go and sleep
01:34
in a different master bedroom?
01:36
And, like, you know, and the poor, you know,
01:40
my, the Sean, who was, like, the swap dad,
01:43
he went and slept on the couch in his pineapple pajamas.
01:46
So it was, it was nice.
01:48
It was, like, a different, it was a wild experience.
01:50
So you and Michelle both had a list for each other
01:52
of what you do every single day.
01:54
One thing on yours, I was like, wow,
01:56
she does it every day, glam.
01:58
So I'm here to do your glam for today.
02:01
We're gonna do, like, a little zhuzh.
02:04
She's ready.
02:04
Yeah, she's ready to work.
02:06
So do you actually do it every day?
02:07
And when you do, how long does it usually take?
02:09
So I don't do it every day, but I do it often.
02:12
I would say if I'm going to do anything for, like,
02:16
obviously for camera, for TV, or if I'm shooting content.
02:19
So a lot of the times, if I'm shooting content,
02:22
then I have glam that day.
02:24
It's not every single day.
02:25
I actually can do my own glam pretty well, by the way.
02:28
But I think for her, it probably felt like every day
02:31
because doing it as often as I do.
02:34
But obviously, I'm in the entertainment business,
02:36
so it kind of goes with, like, the,
02:38
it goes with the flow of what's happening.
02:40
Well, one thing you said in the episode was that Joe
02:42
has never changed one of the kids' diapers.
02:44
Start your day together.
02:46
One, you guys are a team.
02:48
A team.
02:48
Wow.
02:49
My, like, I've never had a man help with a child in my life.
02:53
Get out of here!
02:54
My husband, never.
02:55
He's never changed my child's diaper.
02:58
How much of a culture shock was it
03:00
when you had Sean there to literally help
03:02
with every single thing?
03:03
And have you started putting more demands on Joe
03:06
since coming home?
03:07
Yes.
03:09
Like, I was in shock over how much Sean does.
03:13
I was like, wait, what?
03:14
Like, they don't leave each other's side
03:16
for 24 hours a day.
03:18
He is Mr. Mom, but he also, they work together.
03:22
I was in shock.
03:24
And then there was a point that I was like,
03:25
you actually need a minute to, like,
03:28
have your own thoughts.
03:29
And, like, you know, to evolve,
03:32
you need to think for a minute.
03:33
You can't have kids on top of you 24 hours a day.
03:35
So divide and conquer once in a while.
03:37
Give each other a break once in a while.
03:39
And they didn't see that at first.
03:40
They thought, like, no, we do every single thing together.
03:43
And I'm like, it's going to be really hard
03:44
to grow professionally
03:46
if you don't have a minute to, like,
03:48
put your thinking cap on.
03:49
And so that was kind of, like,
03:51
what I had to share with them.
03:54
You know?
03:54
So it's crazy.
03:57
I went home.
03:57
I'm like, Joe, like, what do you do?
04:00
You go to work.
04:01
I'm like, I'm going to need you to do more.
04:03
I haven't, he's been washing the dishes.
04:05
That's an update.
04:06
So, yeah, he washes dishes now.
04:08
He, I think he changed,
04:09
I think it was Gino's diaper once.
04:11
He put it on backwards.
04:12
The tape was going the wrong direction.
04:14
And, of course, Gino had, like,
04:16
a bad stomach that day.
04:17
Things were coming out of the,
04:18
he was like this, like,
04:20
just, I was like, just go away.
04:22
I got this, like, I cannot.
04:23
He puts the dog's diaper on backwards.
04:25
Like, if that's even possible,
04:27
he could barely put the dog's diaper on.
04:29
So there's that.
04:29
Speaking of Joe, at one point,
04:31
everyone was in the backyard,
04:33
double-dutching.
04:33
The house was kind of a mess.
04:35
He was wearing whatever he wanted.
04:36
He was like, I love Michelle.
04:37
He had his hat tilted to the side.
04:40
My whole life, I've been told what to do.
04:43
I love Michelle.
04:45
She's like, go away there.
04:46
You look like an idiot,
04:48
but you look great.
04:50
The first thing I saw
04:52
when I saw that scene,
04:54
I was like, what are you wearing?
04:56
Like, what is happening?
04:57
He was like, that's right.
04:58
I got my pant leg up,
04:59
my hat's to the side.
05:00
I was like, is this your double-dutch outfit?
05:02
Like, what is this?
05:03
He just likes to be free
05:04
because I'm obviously going to be like,
05:06
pull your pant, pull your pant down,
05:08
straighten your hat.
05:10
I was going to say,
05:10
was he getting a little too excited
05:11
in that moment?
05:12
I think he enjoyed it.
05:13
I do.
05:14
I think he enjoyed,
05:15
I mean, he missed me
05:15
and we missed each other,
05:17
but I think that he enjoyed
05:18
like that minute he got to just,
05:20
it was like a little free fall.
05:22
I was like, and the time is up.
05:23
Well, the kids missed you a lot.
05:25
They did.
05:26
Which I thought was so cute.
05:27
What did you miss most about them
05:28
when you were gone?
05:30
I think I just was,
05:32
even more than missing them,
05:33
I was so curious.
05:34
I'm like, what are they doing right now?
05:36
Are they eating her food?
05:37
Are they like in conversation with her right now?
05:41
Are they engaging?
05:42
And I was really happy to see
05:43
that my daughter really like got in there.
05:46
She became like a little bit of a mini me.
05:48
She was very like into it.
05:50
She told me about all these beautiful conversations
05:51
that her and Michelle had,
05:52
which I love.
05:53
So it was nice.
05:55
It was good to let her like,
05:56
you know, sometimes you need
05:57
a different point of view than your mother's.
05:59
You can't always just listen to what your mom says.
06:01
And it was nice.
06:02
She was like coaching her
06:03
through things she's going through
06:04
as a young woman.
06:05
And it was very nice.
06:08
I was also excited to see
06:09
Phaedra Parks make an appearance.
06:10
How did that cameo come to be?
06:12
I've known Melissa for over a decade.
06:14
She runs a tight ship.
06:16
So when I saw Melissa turn the corner
06:19
with three young children,
06:22
give me a Xanax.
06:25
You know what?
06:25
She was local.
06:26
She was nearby.
06:27
And I needed to find a store.
06:29
And it was like dialing a housewife.
06:31
I'm like, Phaedra,
06:32
where do I go and come meet me
06:35
and see my new family?
06:36
The way she giggled
06:37
when she first saw me
06:39
like walking in
06:40
with these three little kids.
06:41
She was like,
06:42
oh my God.
06:44
You know,
06:44
like it was funny.
06:45
But I've known Phaedra
06:46
for over a decade.
06:48
Obviously,
06:48
we've been on Housewives
06:49
forever together.
06:50
So I love her.
06:51
She makes me laugh.
06:53
And I love how Phoenix,
06:55
the little girl,
06:56
she was like,
06:57
she looks like Elsa.
06:58
Yeah.
06:59
So far with the show,
07:00
we've only seen your episode.
07:01
We've seen Angie Kay's episode.
07:03
And in her,
07:04
she was kind of living off the grid,
07:05
no running water.
07:06
How do you think
07:07
you would have done
07:07
in that environment?
07:08
Did it kind of make you
07:09
more grateful that yours
07:10
was just kind of messy
07:11
and disorganized?
07:12
Yes.
07:12
I was like,
07:13
oh my gosh,
07:14
I will never complain.
07:16
I just wanted to see her
07:17
take a shower.
07:18
Because they showed
07:19
where they showered
07:20
and I'm like,
07:20
outside?
07:21
Wow.
07:22
All of the kids
07:23
showered.
07:24
What?
07:28
Wait a minute,
07:28
wait a minute,
07:29
wait a minute.
07:30
So will I,
07:32
this is where I'll shower
07:33
and wash my hair?
07:34
Yeah.
07:35
Like,
07:36
do people watch you?
07:37
Like,
07:37
do your kids see you?
07:38
Like,
07:39
I needed to see Angie
07:40
naked in the shower.
07:42
And I was like,
07:43
mad that we didn't get
07:43
to see her shower,
07:45
right?
07:45
Because like,
07:45
that would have been interesting.
07:47
Yeah.
07:47
You can blur it and all,
07:49
but like,
07:49
let me see her do this.
07:51
She did tell me
07:51
that she used it.
07:52
It just wasn't used
07:53
in the final episode.
07:54
I'm like,
07:54
we need extended versions.
07:55
Yes.
07:56
First of all,
07:56
all of these,
07:57
I could tell you right now,
07:58
could have been
07:59
two episodes each.
08:00
Yeah.
08:00
So much couldn't make it
08:02
because it's just,
08:03
there's just so much time.
08:04
But like,
08:04
this could have been
08:05
two episodes all day long.
08:06
Of course,
08:06
I can't let you go
08:07
without asking about
08:08
some things that have been
08:08
in the news lately.
08:10
I know,
08:11
you know,
08:11
there's been a lot of talk
08:12
about how your sister-in-law
08:14
has reached out
08:14
to your husband
08:15
and maybe he's talked to her.
08:17
What,
08:18
what does that look like
08:19
from your perspective?
08:20
What is their sit down?
08:21
I don't know if the conversations
08:22
really happen yet or not,
08:24
but what does that look like?
08:25
Are you and her husband involved?
08:27
Is it just the brother and sister?
08:29
You know,
08:29
how,
08:29
what would it look like for you
08:30
in a perfect world?
08:32
Well,
08:32
obviously it would never work
08:33
unless it's everyone.
08:35
It just doesn't work
08:36
without the full family.
08:38
So I think that's just a given,
08:41
right?
08:42
But we're,
08:43
we're all,
08:44
we'll see what happens.
08:46
I,
08:46
I'm team family.
08:47
I'll always be team family.
08:51
It's just one of those things
08:52
where we have to see like
08:53
how it works out
08:54
and what goes on,
08:56
but I've never wanted it this way.
08:58
This is not how my family functions.
09:00
I don't believe in any of this.
09:02
And if I can see for me,
09:05
whatever would make Joe happy.
09:07
And if Joe feels relief
09:08
from this in any way,
09:10
then I am on board for my husband
09:12
and for my kids,
09:13
most importantly.
09:14
and,
09:14
and for myself,
09:15
I don't believe in holding like
09:17
hate and resentment and anger
09:19
that doesn't,
09:20
it doesn't,
09:20
it doesn't like equal a good life.
09:22
Right.
09:23
And I've always thought that,
09:24
and yes,
09:25
there's a lot that everyone has
09:27
been through on all sides.
09:30
So it's a big conversation
09:31
and we'll see what happens.
