Al-Qassam fighters carried out a deadly ambush on Israeli forces stationed in Rafah, southern Gaza, on Tuesday afternoon, killing Master Sgt. (res.) Yona Efraim Feldbaum, 37, from Neria in the West Bank. The attack, which took place during an active ceasefire, began when Hamas snipers opened fire on a building used by IDF troops and at an army excavator, fatally striking Feldbaum. Moments later, RPGs hit an armored vehicle but caused no further injuries. In immediate response, the IDF launched extensive retaliatory strikes, targeting Hamas positions, buildings, and tunnel shafts in Rafah’s Jenina neighborhood—an area still under Israeli control despite the truce. The strikes, described by the army as “a series of significant attacks,” reportedly killed over 100 people, including women and children, with the IDF claiming to have eliminated more than 30 Hamas and allied commanders.
