00:04how exactly do EU citizens use social networks?

00:11More than 6 in 10 young EU citizens say they use social media platforms

00:16to follow daily content on social and political current affairs.

00:20Instagram, TikTok and X are the most used social networks among users aged between 15 and 24.

00:26Younger respondents are more likely than those aged 55 and over to read or view content on their feed,

00:33like or react to posts and share content through direct messages or private chats.

00:38However, they are less likely than all other age groups to comment on posts.

00:42More than half of these young users actively seek information on social media.

00:4646% of respondents say they were exposed to disinformation and fake news over the past 7 days.

00:5371% of young citizens say they feel confident in recognizing disinformation when they encounter it.

00:59The most common verification strategies used by young people are making sure it's from a trusted source,

01:05checking comments to see what other people are saying about it,

01:09and verifying if pictures or videos look real or fake.

01:13Younger age groups are more likely than older age groups to follow the accounts of international organizations,

01:18EU-level politicians and EU-level political parties.

01:23Still, older followers are more likely than younger ones to say they follow these accounts to keep up with current events.
