US President Donald Trump said seven “brand-new, beautiful” aircraft were shot down during the May 7–10 cross-border clashes between India and Pakistan, speaking in Tokyo as he repeated his claim of brokering the ceasefire between the two nations.
00:00A lot of the wars that I stopped were because of tariffs, and frankly, I did a great service to the world, but because of tariffs, because of trade.
00:09If you look at India and Pakistan, they were going at it.
00:13Seven planes were shot down.
00:15Seven brand new, beautiful planes were shot down, and they were going at it.
00:20Two big nuclear powers, and I said to Prime Minister Modi, and I said to the Prime Minister, a very nice man, a very good man,
00:27and the field marshal over in Pakistan, I said, look, we're not going to do any trade if you're going to be fighting.
00:33No, no, no, one thing has nothing to do with the other.
00:36I said, it has a lot to do with the other, two nuclear powers.
00:39We get that nuclear dust all over the place.
00:42All of you are affected, right?
00:44And we said, no, we're not doing any deals if you're going to fight.
00:48And within about 24 hours, that was the end of that.
00:51It was amazing, actually, and we've done numerous like that.
00:55And I would say trade is responsible for 70% of the fact that we didn't have wars by using our heads,
01:01because they want to trade with the United States.
01:03But I said, we're not going to trade if you're going to go to war.
01:06And it's amazing how quickly they were able to make deals.
01:08And, you know, they would have been fighting for 10 years, killing millions of people, numerous of them.
